The mega matches will be headlined by renowned Mizo arm wrestler, <keyword id="23849410" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Denic-Lalruattluanga-Vangchhia" source="keywords">Denic Lalruattluanga Vangchhia</keyword> who will go against an international arm wrestler. Denic has recently stolen the spotlight for winning gold in the <keyword id="23849412" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Armwrestling-Cup" source="keywords">Asian Armwrestling Cup</keyword> and helping India finish runner-up behind Kazakhstan. Pro Panja League also named Denic as the Indian player of the tournament and was felicitated and given a cash reward of Rs 35,000. Lalnghinglova Hmar said that he was happy to announce that Mizoram is hosting the Pro Panja League Mega Match edition. "I am happy to announce that we're hosting the Pro Panja League Mega Match Mizoram edition at the Aizawl Winter Festival. This will help showcase our excellent <keyword id="23849413" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mizo-Armwrestlers" source="keywords">Mizo Armwrestlers</keyword> to the world and it will inspire a whole generation of Armwrestlers in Mizoram," Hmar was quoted in a release as saying. Pro Panja League's founder, Parvin Dabas thanked Lalnghinglova Hmar for his support and for allowing the league to hold an international event in Mizoram. Parvin stated, "It is going to be one of the best and biggest sporting events Mizoram will see. We are grateful for the opportunity and we will give it our all to make sure the event is a big success." The President of the People's Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI), Preeti Jhangitoo expressed her enthusiasm and said, "PAFI is proud to have the Mizoram Armwrestling Association as a part of this event and we are sure it's going to be a lot more successful from here."

Mega arm wrestling event 'Mizoram Mega Matches' to be held in Dec in Aizawl

All it took was a day, a breath, a sight to fall in love. They say love at first sight is overrated, ask people who’ve been to <keyword id="65591" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mizoram">Mizoram</keyword>. After living there for almost 10 months, home doesn’t feel home. It feelt like I could breathe in there, people thought like I do – a liberated semi-matriarchal society with all the freedom one could ask for. 
 Being a journalist, I wanted to pursue English Journalism course from <keyword id="591927" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Mass-Communication">Indian Institute of Mass Communication</keyword> (IIMC). Being one of the best journalism institutes in India, they’ve established themselves in 6 states (Kottayam (Kerala), Amravati (Maharashtra), Delhi, Dhenkanal (Orissa), Jammu, and <keyword id="6417784" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="aizawl">Aizawl</keyword> (Mizoram)). Fortunately I got selected and was given Aizawl as the centre. My dad got worried as it was North East and we all know how media generalises and hypes events. If there’s a racist attack in <keyword id="50015" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nagaland">Nagaland</keyword>, media would be like “look how North Indians are treated in North East.” After all the debating and heated arguments at home, I finally got what I wanted. 
 
Day-1 
 
During our journey from Delhi to Mizoram, Dad kept on insisting “Let’s go back- I’ll get you through other branches,” but then who argues with the man who has already made up his mind. Our plane landed at Aizawl airport. Now, this airport is like no other—covered with mountains and clouds, I was like ‘Ahhhh this must be heaven or I must be dreaming’. Been to a lot of places, never saw such a sight, this was extraordinarily beautiful. 
 
Although the distance between the airport and the main city is not much (around 40 kms) but it takes almost 2 hours to cover that as the roads are curvy and around the hills. I could never forget that taxi ride-- that was the time I lost myself and knew this place is home. After all it’s aptly quoted “Home is where your heart is” and I had found a home. Funnily, my dad was like “Stay away from these girls, they smoke!” I wanted to argue but then he understood how many would I ignore? The barber girl, or the super store girl or the girl cutting meat in the meat shop or anyone else (We could hardly see guys in there). 
 
The Stay 
 
As I was in contact with the centre head, Mr LR Sailo, he had already made arrangements for our stay there. One of the most humble fellows I’ve ever met in my life. As we kept the luggage inside the room, dad stayed back to rest, I was the having jump bugs on my back—so I headed out for a walk. As it had been a long time with dad, I needed to smoke in peace. “Hey give me one of those cigarettes”, “one?” She asked shockingly. I replied “Yeah! how much for that?” She said “2”. Now assuming Rs 2 for a cigg as lengthy as a classic mild would be foolishness. So, I further questioned, “20 Rupees maam?” She shouted, like literally shouted “2 Rupees”. I was neither confused nor in a dilemma, because I knew that this place was just PERFECT! 
 
After a long walk of smoking and watching almost everyone smoke on the road, I came back and headed to the balcony. This is what I saw the first day and captured it. My window had a view like that, WOAHH; I would wake up to that sight every day?? Most of fall, I had a peaceful place to read without any noise (BTW if you blow your vehicle’s horn inside the city, the traffic police would charge you Rs1000 in an instant). 
 
The Journey 
 
Envision a place where the temperature is between 18-24 degrees throughout the year. People don’t even install fans. They have multi-storied buildings with steep roads that would literally develop your calves in 3 months. 
 As IIMC campus was inside <keyword id="559375" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mizoram-University">Mizoram University</keyword>, it was quite a distance from our place (Almost an hour by college bus). My classmates and I were really excited to get through the college, first day- big college- beautiful girls- boom bang (Smokers will get that). As our bus entered the campus, we could see a big board with bold letters informing that selling and consumption of tobacco was punishable inside the campus. After just 10 steps from there I could see a group smoking and having a gala time. I was like “Really man?” But then I came across numerous groups that were doing the same thing. 
 
First day over, my other North Indian mates staying at the PG, advised me not to leave the place after 8 pm. You expect me to follow that? Of course not. We went out and could see people indulging in human needs (If you know what I mean), cops included BTW. I sat with a random group on the roadside and they could play better guitar than these self proclaimed rock bands here. Everybody high, singing and happy. 
 
They asked me if I admired soccer as a sport, I told them I was crazy about soccer. That night, one of the oldest rivals Chanmari West and Aizawl FC were head to head in a nearby stadium. To be honest, I had never been to a live soccer match but then this day was something special. We sat on the Aizawl FC stand and could feel the electricity in the crowd. I still remember it was 1-1 and in the 90th minute there was a tackle inside the box, could have been a penalty but refree said, “Play-on”. That counter attack by Aizawl FC was one of the most deadly moves in the complete match and guess what? They freaking scored. Talk about football riots, I was involved in one, fortunately saved by a soldier of the nearby camp. The match stopped twice in between because the clouds were on the ground and there was zero visibility. Fascinating, No? 
 
Trip to <keyword id="83293" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Burma">Burma</keyword> 
 
An international trip at local expense, sounds great, we took our chances. After an 8 hour long bumpy cab journey to Champhai, I could see plains after four long months, the joy was ecstatic. Sights of green lushes throughout the place. The only problem we faced was the local language, most of them didn’t know how to speak English and we were pathetic Mizo speakers. After a night long stay, we moved ahead and actually took some bikes for hire for the real journey. 
 
As we entered Burma, all we had to do was submit one identity proof at the border and we could stay there as long as we want. So here’s an interesting fact—majority of the shops in that area sell liquor. And here’s an advice from someone who has tasted that liquor—don’t buy anything! Outside it has labels like Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, as you open the bottle; it all becomes the same, freaking spirit. 
 
RihDil Lake still stands strong as one of the most beautiful sights in the area. It’s a lake naturally born out of a shape of a ‘heart’ with yellow flower fields and beautiful bars beside it. We had to make a stop and have a sip of that famous Spanish bear they have there. After that we went on different parts of the area visiting monasteries. Most of all, I was glad to see the lifestyle there, no internet, people have house farms, free hospitals and a small commute. Everything was so dreamy in there. 
 
The only thing left 
 
Been to local tribal festivities, tasted the local food, made friends, most of all, I had peace of mind. The only thing left was to fall in love (can’t be too explicit) with a Mizo girl (Trust me, that’ll be the first thing you’d want). And shit happened just 4 days before us leaving the state for once and for all. 
 
I’ll never be the same. You could take me to a 1000 heavens and I’ll still choose Mizoram over them. If you get a chance to visit North East, give at least a week to Mizoram. Schedule your visit around Christmas and see the magic happen.

Mizoram: The time I spent as a student in Aizawl

The Zoram People's Movement (<keyword id="746547" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zpm" source="Orion">ZPM</keyword>) stormed to power in <keyword id="65591" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="mizoram" source="Orion">Mizoram</keyword> by dethroning the Mizo National Front (<keyword id="577715" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mnf" source="Orion">MNF</keyword>) bagging 27 seats in the 40-member House on Monday. Prominent ZPM winners include the party's CM face Lalduhoma, who secured the Serchhip seat defeating his MNF rival J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng by 2,982 votes. The ruling Mizo National Front won nine seats and was leading in one. The BJP won the Palak and Saiha seats. The Indian National Congress bagged the Lawngtlai West seat. Prominent losers include Deputy Chief Minister and MNF candidate Tawnluia who lost to ZPM candidate in Tuichang, Health Minister and MNF candidate R Lalthangliana who lost to ZPM's Jeje Lalpekhlua in South Tuipui and Rural Development Minister Laruatkima who lost to ZPM nominee Lalnghinglova Hmar in Aizawl West II, according to the Election Commission. Chief Minister and MNF chief Zoramthanga lost to ZPM's Lalthansanga by 2,101 votes, it said. ZPM emerged winners in Kolasib, Chalfilh, Tawi, Aizawl North-I, Aizawl North-II, Aizawl North-III, Aizawl East I, Aizawl East II, Aizawl West-I, Aizawl West-II, Aizawl West-III, Aizawl South-I, Aizawl South-II, Aizawl South-III, Lengteng, Tuichang, Champhai North, Champai South, Tuikum, Hrangturzo, South Tuipui, Lunglei North, Lunglei East, Lunglei West, Lunglei South, Lawngtlai East and Serchhip seats. The MNF won in Hachhek, Mamik, Tuirial, Serlui, Tuivawl, East Tuipui, West Tuipui, Thorang and Tuichawng seats and was leading in one. Counting of votes, which began at 8 am, was being held in 13 centres. Postal ballots were counted first, and from 8.30 am, the counting for votes polled in the EVMs began. In some of the seats that have a fewer number of voters, only two rounds of counting will be held, but in most of the constituencies, five rounds will be counted. More than 4,000 personnel are involved in the counting process. In all, there are 399 tables for the EVMs and 56 for the counting of postal ballots. Polling was held on November 7, and over 80 per cent of the state's 8.57 lakh voters exercised their franchise. A total of 174 candidates, including 18 women, were in the fray. The MNF, ZPM and Congress contested 40 seats each, while the BJP fielded candidates in 23 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested the assembly polls here for the first time, fought in four seats. Also, there were 17 Independent candidates.

As the counting of votes for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly elections is underway, trends on Monday showed the opposition Zoram People's Movement (<keyword id="746547" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="zpm" source="Orion">ZPM</keyword>) leading in 27 seats leaving far behind the ruling <keyword id="297846" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mizo-national-front" source="Orion">Mizo National Front</keyword> (MNF), which is ahead in nine seats. The trends showed the opposition Congress leading in one seat while the BJP was ahead in three seats. ZPM's President and Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma is leading in the Serchhip seat while most of the prominent nominees of the party were leading in their respective seats. MNF candidate and Chief Minister Zoramthanga was trailing in the Aizawl East-1 seat while most ministers of the ruling MNF were leading in their respective seats. The counting of votes for the Mizoram Assembly polls began at 8 a.m. amid elaborate security arrangements in all 11 districts of the state. Additional Chief Electoral Officer H. Lianzela said that initially postal ballots were counted and then the counting of votes polled through the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was taken up. Over 4,000 officials, including women, were engaged in the counting process. These officials are posted at 40 counting halls under 13 centres in 11 districts, the official told IANS. Director General of Police Anil Shukla said that adequate security measures were in place for the smooth conduct of the counting process. Adequate contingents of Central Armed Police Forces and Mizoram Armed Police have been deployed across the state to maintain law and order. More than 80 per cent of the 8.57 lakh voters exercised their franchise to decide the electoral fate of 174 candidates, including 16 women. The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the main Opposition Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and the Congress have fielded candidates from all 40 seats while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is contesting four seats. The BJP has fielded candidates on 23 seats with a special focus on linguistic minority inhabited areas, especially where the Reang and Chakma tribal communities are in good numbers in the voters' list. Besides them, 27 independent candidates are also in the fray.

Guwahati, Mar 23 () Several flights to and from theLokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahatiwere cancelled on Monday due to poor patronisation in the wakeof the COVID-19 outbreak.GoAir cancelled its Kolkata-Guwahati-Kolkata G8-295/296 and 532/546, Aizawl-Guwahati-Aizawl 297/298, Delhi-Guwahati-Bagdogra 851/851, Bagdogra-Guwahati-Delhi 257/257,and Aizawl-Guwahati-Aizawl 290, an AAI spokesman here said.Indigos Agartala-Guwahati-Chennai 6E 119 has beencancelled up to March 28.GoAirs flights - Kolkata-Guwahati-Kolkata G8-295/296and 532/546, Aizawl-Guwahati-Aizawl 297/298, Delhi-Guwahati-Bagdogra 851/851, Bagdogra-Guwahati-Delhi 257/257 and Aizawl-Guwahati-Aizawl 290 were also cancelled, the spokesmansaid.Cancelled flights of Spicejet are Mumbai-Guwahati-Bagdogra SG 6490/640, Jaipur-Guwahati-Chennai 341/346,Bagdogra-Guwahati-Mumbai 6481/6481, Chennai-Guwahati-Jaipur345/342, Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati 8152/8162 and Dibrugarh-Guwahati-Dibrugarh 3319.Besides, Indigos Guwahati-Agartala-Guwahati 6E112/119, Vistaras UK-721/722 Delhi-Guwahati-Delhi and DrukAirs KB-241/240 Paro-Guwahati-Paro also remained cancelled,he added. Aizawl, Feb 28 () Mizoram is set to get its thirdflight with low-cost carrier IndiGo starting a service on theGuwahati-Aizawl-Agartala sector on Saturday from the Lengpuiairport, a senior official said.Chief Minister Zoramthanga will flag off the IndiGoflight at 12.30 pm, principal consultant for civil aviationWing Commander J Lalhmingliana said on Friday.Several officials of the state government and those ofthe budget carrier will be present at the airport during theflag off, he said.The airline is also planning to introduce an AirbusA320 on the Aizawl-Delhi sector soon, Lalhmingliana said.Mizoram currently doesn't have a direct airlink withDelhi, following the withdrawal of services by Jet Airways inFebruary 2019.Presently, the state is served by Air India whichoperates on the Aizawl-Kolkata-Imphal route and Go Air thatruns a service on the Aizawl-Culcutta-Guwahati sector.
