<ul><li>The Ministry of Civil Aviation has allowed all <keyword id="6391001" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-flights" source="Orion">domestic flights</keyword> to operate at full capacity from October 18.</li><li>Former aviation secretary previously said that the ministry is looking to remove all caps on domestic flights ahead of the festive season.</li><li>Domestic flights were allowed to operate at 85% capacity until now.</li></ul>The Ministry of Civil Aviation has allowed all domestic flights to operate at full capacity from Monday, October 18, onwards. The development was reported by news agency ANI. This comes a few days after the former aviation secretary Pradeep Kharola, who retired on September 30, said that the ministry is looking to<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/some-domestic-flights-tickets-may-get-expensive-soon-as-government-mulls-removal-of-airfare-cap/articleshow/86611240.cms"> remove caps on airfare and capacity</a> on domestic flights ahead of the festive season. The ministry introduced a cap on the capacity of domestic flights last year in May amid the rising Covid-19 cases. Such a cap allowed the flights to follow social distancing and minimise the exposure to coronavirus. On May 25 of 2020, the flights were allowed to resume after a two-month-long halt at one-third capacity, which has been increasing gradually. The Ministry of Civil Aviation, in September, had increased the capacity to 85% of flights. Alongside this, the ministry had also imposed a lower and upper cap of airfare based on the flight duration, which ensured that air tickets were not out of budget for the passengers. The Indian aviation industry has been pushing the Indian government as well as the Ministry of Civil Aviation to do away with these limits for several months now. The industry believes that such caps hamper competitiveness and only benefit low-cost carriers. India allows domestic flights to operate at full capacity from Monday

If flying abroad has been a dream for you, and air-ticket prices from your metro city have been discouraging you from fulfilling it, try looking for international flights from smaller city airports, which could cost you much lesser. For example, a ticket to Singapore from <keyword id="112480" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanganer-airport">Sanganer airport</keyword> in Jaipur would cost you about half of a similar ticket from Delhi's T3. As per data compiled by online travel portal Ixigo, budget airlines are offering cheaper fares from <keyword id="489867" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="tier-2-cities">tier-2 cities</keyword> like Lucknow, Jaipur and Trichy, to Singapore, Hong Kong and other nearby international destinations. The reason behind this fall is the entry of budget carriers on the short-haul international routes as well as comparatively lower operational fees at these smaller airports. This has led to more passengers travelling abroad from these tier-2 towns, with international traffic from Jaipur and Trichy registering around double digit growth. "Low cost carriers such as Scoot, Tiger, Air Arabia, FlyDubai etc. have launched their services from various tier 2 cities over the past 12 to 18 months and have gained significant market share through lower fares," Sharat Dhall, chief operating officer at Yatra.com told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/smaller-cities-offer-cheaper-fares-to-overseas-hotspots/articleshow/59481261.cms">ET</a>. "They have dropped fares from certain tier 2 cities to South East Asia and the Middle East, and this has resulted in the growth of direct traffic from these towns."

Travelling abroad from smaller cities might save you big bucks

The year was 1975. 
 
At that time, 19-year old <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sweden">Swedish</a> resident <keyword id="3173810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Charlotte-Von-sledvin">Charlotte Von Sledvin</keyword> was studying in London. While, Dr <keyword id="3173809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pradyumna-Kumar-Mahanandia">Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia</keyword> from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=india">India</a> had just started making a name for himself as a gifted artist and gained popularity for his portraits, after having joined the College of Art in Delhi and overcoming his poor background and the dreaded caste system so prevalent in the country. 
 Sledvin having heard of this gifted artist traveled all over to <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> to get PK (as he was fondly called then) to make her portrait. As luck would have it, both of them fell in love with each other during the course of him making her portrait, She, with his simplicity and he with her ethereal beauty. 
 
What happened next sounds like it’s right out of a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bollywood">Bollywood </a>movie plot. 
 
The duo who were madly in love with each other by the time Charlotte had to leave decided to get married with her taking the Indian name Charulata. 
 
 
As time for her departure neared, she asked her husband to join her, however PK wanted to finish his studies first. When she offered to send air-tickets later, he refused saying he would come on his own. And, after she left, the duo kept in touch through letters. 
 
After PK completed his studies, the realization dawned on him that even though his heart made the promise of going to see his wife, his financial condition wouldn’t allow for the promise to become a reality. 
 
But, not one to give up, he sold all his belongings and used the money to buy a second hand cycle- his weapon of choice. 
 
 
 
 
In 1978, PK set out on his voyage to the far west to meet the love of his life. During the course of the next four months, he crossed Amritsar, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria and Denmark. His cycle broke down many times on the way and he even had to go on without food for days. But nothing could break his will. 
 When he finally reached Gothenburg, <keyword id="23050" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sweden">Sweden</keyword>, he was quizzed by Swedish immigration officers regarding his visit. 
 
When PK told them his reason and produced photographs of his marriage with Charlotte, he was informed that Charlotte belonged to the royal family. 
 
When Charlotte on the other hand heard about the man from Indian who cycled for more than four months, she immediately drove to Gothenburg and received her husband with unbridled happiness. Her family accepted him as one of their own. 
 
 
 
And, now after 40 years of marriage, Dr PK Mahanandia serves as the Odiya Cultural Ambassador of India to Sweden and is a renowned artist and lives with his wife Charlotte and 2 children in Sweden. 
 
 
 
Love indeed had no boundaries for this couple.

This Indian man’s story about cycling across eight
countries for four months to reach his Swedish wife is going viral

Tuesday.
Tuesday is the day to buy plane tickets. That's what I've always been told by "those in the know."
Over the years, I've managed to score some great deals by following the rule, so I've pretty much accepted it as a travel axiom.&#xa0;
Fortunately for all of us, <a href="http://www.expedia.com/?semcid=13172-1_b&amp;kword=expedia!e.ZzZz.3380000000967.0.17250100692.expedia.expedia&amp;gclid=CJadkKr9ysICFWdo7AodCkAASw" target="_blank">Expedia </a>and Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) ran the numbers and results confirm what I've been doing.
The report showed that for coach tickets (both domestic and international) originating from the United States, Tuesday is indeed the cheapest day to buy.
I feel vindicated, but only in part because this is only the case if you buy three weeks in advance, and even then, it's only marginally cheaper than any of the other days between Monday and Friday.&#xa0;
In fact, what the study really showed is when you should avoid buying plane tickets. For tickets purchased three weeks or more in advance, the average price is $515 on Tuesday.
However, that's only $2 cheaper than Wednesday, $3 cheaper than Thursday, $5 cheaper than Monday, and $7 cheaper than Friday.
There is really very little variation there.
However, prices skyrocket when you purchase on Saturdays and Sundays. Expedia's report showed that average tickets prices jump all the way to $543 on Saturday and $539 on Sunday. And this is for bookings nearly a month ahead of travel.&#xa0;

For those of us booking tickets for travel within three weeks, the data changes drastically.
The Expedia report once again revealed very little variation in price among the weekdays, with Tuesday being cheapest at $561 and Friday the most expensive at $571.
That being said, under this analysis, Tuesday is no longer the cheapest day of the week to buy. That honor goes to Sunday, with an average price of just $549.&#xa0;
Ultimately, Expedia concluded that there is no silver bullet to finding the cheapest tickets.
"It's worth noting that because airfares change minute by minute&#xa0;and day by day, anointing one particular day of the week is not&#xa0;necessarily the best predictor of a "good-deal" fare," the travel site wrote.
"In fact, so many&#xa0;factors go into air-ticket prices at any given moment that one could&#xa0;argue there are no foolproof strategies for when to find the best&#xa0;air-ticket price."
The Report, citing George Hobica of Airfarewatchdog.com, noted that airlines can post amazing unadvertised sales at anytime - offering huge discounts on specific routes.&#xa0;
Unfortunately, the true key getting the best deal is to keep constant tabs on the ticket you are looking for. There are alert tools on numerous sites that will notify you when the route and price level you are looking for is available.&#xa0;

The Best Day Of The Week To Buy Plane Tickets

MakeMyTrip has grown by leaps and bounds. Can you give BI India readers a small glimpse of the MMT’s journey till date? 
 
MakeMyTrip.com was founded in the year 2000. Deep Kalra (Founder) conceptualized it with the idea to empower Indian travellers through choice, flexibility and transparency of pricing. The travel industry in 2000 had not achieved momentum yet. There were a couple of websites that offered air-tickets but none that could comprehensively claim to cater across categories (LCCs and full-service) and offer Best Deal and Lowest Airfare Guarantee. 
 
Upon launching the first version of the site in October 2000, we received a favourable response from the US. In India however, travellers were more inclined to research online, but make the actual buying decision using traditional modes of payment. We had to take a hard call to stop all marketing in India; on hindsight this turned out to be one of the best decisions for the company. By focusing solely on the NRI market, we managed to conserve precious marketing dollars while our competitors burnt their fingers in a pre-mature online market. 
 
After consolidating our position in the market as a brand recognized for its reliability and transparency, we launched our India operations in 2005. As the pioneer among Online Travel Companies in India, MakeMyTrip heralded a revolution in the way travel was purchased in India – and soon became the go-to website for booking travel. In 2010 we became the first Indian travel company to list overseas through a successful IPO on NASDAQ. 
 
Today, we are the dominant market-leader with 47% market-share (per a study conducted by PhocusWright in 2013). 
 
MMT like many others has started a venture fund, what was the reason behind it? 
 
We have announced the institution of a $15 million Innovation Fund primarily to support early stage companies/ start-ups in the travel technology space with a special focus on Mobile and IP-based companies. The fund will be focused on young and new ventures in the travel technology space for our market. 
 
This initiative is an additional prong of our inorganic growth strategy of pursuing M&amp;A opportunities in the travel technology space. We intend to purposefully go out and look for such companies and take early stage positions. 
 
What is MMT expectations from this venture funding? 
 
We are excited about the Technology talent in the global marketplace and how it can be leveraged to serve customer needs. We are hopeful that this initiative will encourage entrepreneurs building niche companies in the travel technology domain. 
 
What are the future plans for MMT besides this? 
 
We are already the largest travel company in the country and the largest eCommerce business, recognized for providing the best value-based offerings. In the mid to long-term, we intend to use our core strength i.e. technology to innovate, provide best-in-class service and delight customers.
