The 20-screen multiplex — which is a part of Airtel’s video app Xtream — will showcase content portfolios from leading over-the-top (OTT) platforms it has partnered with. A quick scan of the website reveals that Airtel Xstream offers content from OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Sony Liv and Eros Now. The Xstream multiplex is an extension of Airtel’s Xstream Premium offering, which added two million subscribers within 100 days of its launch. “Airtel’s Xstream multiplex provides a larger-than-life experience, which brings together Web 3.0 apps and immersive storytelling, and an assortment of content from our partners. We all know people’s love for movies and entertainment in India. Through the metaverse, we are looking to tap into a larger audience, giving content enthusiasts an opportunity to sample Airtel’s Xstream Premium offering and, thus, aiding in driving higher adoption,” Shashwat Sharma, director of marketing at Airtel, said in a statement. Airtel launches its first multiplex, but in the metaverse

New Delhi, Jun 17 () Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Wednesday said it has acquired 10 per cent stake in Mumbai-based edtech startup, Lattu Media as part of its Airtel Startup Accelerator Program. Lattu Media (Lattu Kids) specialises in digital learning tools for children, and the app focuses on improving English vocabulary, English reading and Maths skills for children under the age of 10 years through animated videos and games. "The investment will enable Airtel to add Edtech to its premium digital content portfolio and give distribution scale to quality learning material from Lattu Kids," a statement said. Airtel already has over 160 million monthly active users across its digital platforms – Airtel Thanks app, Airtel Xstream app and Wynk Music, it added. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Bharti Airtel - in a regulatory filing - said the acquisition of the equity shares of investee company is done at mutually agreed pre-money enterprise valuation. "The said valuation is not material and not disclosed herein due to reasons of confidentiality," the filing added. Lattu Kids is the fourth company to join the Airtel Startup Accelerator Program after Voicezen, Spectacom Global and Vahan. At over 500 million, India has the second largest number of internet users globally, driven by affordable smartphones and the lowest 4G data tariffs globally. The company said this deep penetration of internet has led to wide adoption of online learning tools, and the trend has further accelerated after the COVID-19 pandemic forced closure of schools and adoption of virtual classrooms and digitally enabled learning. Google-owned <keyword id="10879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube" source="Orion">YouTube</keyword> has warned creators that it will start demonetising kids channels on its platform that produce low-quality videos. YouTube channels that primarily target young audiences are classified as "made for kids". "These channels will need to deliver high-quality content and comply with kids-specific monetisation policies," said James Beser, Director of Product Management, Kids and Family at YouTube. For example, channels that have predominantly low-quality kids content such as "heavily commercial or promotional" or "encouraging negative behaviours or attitudes" may be suspended from YouTube Partner Programme. "And if an individual video violates these quality principles, it may see limited or no ads," Beser added in a blog post late on Monday. Earlier in October, YouTube shared additional monetisation policies for channels that primarily create kids and family content on YouTube. "Going forward, these principles will have not only an impact on recommendations and inclusion in <keyword id="2734963" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube-kids" source="Orion">YouTube Kids</keyword> but also on monetisation," the company warned. YouTube said in Q2 2021, it removed more than 1.8 million videos for violation of its child safety policies. YouTube to demonetise low-quality 'made for kids' content starting November

Fast Laughs has a more TikTok and Instagram Reels-like format where you swipe to watch videos vertically. This looks like another way for Netflix to expand its offerings, and also incorporate new ways for users to find content on the platform. Netflix has experimented with different ways like ‘Play Something’ that plays episodes from random shows and movies. Speaking of new experiments, Netflix has also ventured into mobile gaming with five new titles for Android users. These games are available on the Netflix app but have to be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Two of the games are based on the Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’ while the other three are casual games. As for Kids Clips, Netflix has started testing this feature in the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. Netflix starts testing TikTok-like short video feature for kids content

New Delhi, Nov 20 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced partnership with non-fiction video entertainment platform CuriosityStream to offer its content on both Xstream mobile app, web and TV platform.
 The service will be available to all Airtel prepaid customers subscribing to monthly plan of Rs 199, post paid customers above Rs 299 plan and broadband customers subscribing to monthly plan of Rs 1,099 and above, the company said in a statement.
 "Airtel Thanks Gold and Platinum customers will get complimentary access to exciting CuriosityStream content on the Airtel Xstream app and airtelxstream.com. The content will also be available on the Airtel Xstream Hybrid Box and Airtel Xstream Smart Stick," Bharti Airtel said. 
 Launched by Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks, CuriosityStream lets viewers explore across thousands of films and series covering space, art, volcanoes, history, travel, cars, architecture, dinosaurs and so much more.

New Delhi, May 5 () Bharti Airtel's customers who have downloaded the company's mobile app will get free access to ZEE5's video entertainment content for about two months under a partnership between the two entities announced on Tuesday. Airtel Thanks app customers will not have to pay any subscription to avail the access to ZEE5's content, according to the announcement. "There is some exciting news for all Airtel Thanks customers, who will now get free unlimited access to ZEE5's premium content library as part of their exclusive Thanks benefits. This special offer for Airtel Thanks customers will be available from May 4, 2020, to July 12, 2020," Airtel said in statement. Both prepaid and postpaid customers can download the app. "ZEE5 is happy to strengthen the relationship further with Airtel. We are looking to expand our reach through this partnership with Airtel as we will leverage synergies between the brands and further bolster our presence across the country," Manpreet Bumrah, business development and commercial head, ZEE5 India, said. The country has witnessed around 20 per cent rise in demand in data consumption during the lockdown. Entertainment apps, including gaming content, have seen about 200 per cent jump in data consumption, according to industry estimates. Airtel acquires 10 pc stake in fitness start-up Spectacom Global

New Delhi, May 1 () Bharti Airtel's digital content platform Xstream has recorded a 50 per cent jump in streaming volume during the lockdown, the company said on Friday. While re-telecast of Ramayan is said to have broken records on Doordarshan, Airtel Xstream also noticed an increase in demand for retro content during the lockdown period."While overall streaming volumes have increased by 50 per cent on the app since the middle of March 2020, it is shows and movies from yesteryears that have seen the biggest surge in demand from users," Airtel said in a statement. The platform has registered an increase in the average session time and the number of daily sessions per user is also up by 40 per cent as people are spending more time inside homes."Cult TV shows like Malgudi Days, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Zabaan Sambhal Ke, Rajani and many more have witnessed 300 per cent surge in streaming volumes," the statement said. Bollywood Classics from Chaudhavin Ka Chand, Mother India, Don, Padosan, Andaz Apna Apna and Raja Babu have seen streaming volumes growth of 100 per cent underlining the strong demand of content from the decades gone by, it said.The company found that close to 80 per cent of the demand surge for retro content is driven by users from non-metros and smaller towns in states such UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh which highlights the growing adoption of OTT in these markets as smartphones and 4G penetration increases."The current situation has made video entertainment an obvious and large use case.
