Airtel Thanks customers can access Xstream on smartphones by downloading the Airtel Xstream app from Google Play and Apple app store, on TV through Airtel Xstream Hybrid STB, and on PC. Airtel Xstream offers free unlimited access to premium kids content during the lockdown

New Delhi, Jun 17 () Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Wednesday said it has acquired 10 per cent stake in Mumbai-based edtech startup, Lattu Media as part of its Airtel Startup Accelerator Program. Lattu Media (Lattu Kids) specialises in digital learning tools for children, and the app focuses on improving English vocabulary, English reading and Maths skills for children under the age of 10 years through animated videos and games. "The investment will enable Airtel to add Edtech to its premium digital content portfolio and give distribution scale to quality learning material from Lattu Kids," a statement said. Airtel already has over 160 million monthly active users across its digital platforms – Airtel Thanks app, Airtel Xstream app and Wynk Music, it added. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Bharti Airtel - in a regulatory filing - said the acquisition of the equity shares of investee company is done at mutually agreed pre-money enterprise valuation. "The said valuation is not material and not disclosed herein due to reasons of confidentiality," the filing added. Lattu Kids is the fourth company to join the Airtel Startup Accelerator Program after Voicezen, Spectacom Global and Vahan. At over 500 million, India has the second largest number of internet users globally, driven by affordable smartphones and the lowest 4G data tariffs globally. The company said this deep penetration of internet has led to wide adoption of online learning tools, and the trend has further accelerated after the COVID-19 pandemic forced closure of schools and adoption of virtual classrooms and digitally enabled learning. It is estimated that in India edtech industry will cross USD 2 billion in size by 2021. "At Airtel, we aspire to support the growth of the startup ecosystem through our digital platforms. Airtel launches its first multiplex, but in the metaverse

New Delhi, May 5 () Bharti Airtel's customers who have downloaded the company's mobile app will get free access to ZEE5's video entertainment content for about two months under a partnership between the two entities announced on Tuesday. Airtel Thanks app customers will not have to pay any subscription to avail the access to ZEE5's content, according to the announcement. "There is some exciting news for all Airtel Thanks customers, who will now get free unlimited access to ZEE5's premium content library as part of their exclusive Thanks benefits. This special offer for Airtel Thanks customers will be available from May 4, 2020, to July 12, 2020," Airtel said in statement. Both prepaid and postpaid customers can download the app. "ZEE5 is happy to strengthen the relationship further with Airtel. We are looking to expand our reach through this partnership with Airtel as we will leverage synergies between the brands and further bolster our presence across the country," Manpreet Bumrah, business development and commercial head, ZEE5 India, said. The country has witnessed around 20 per cent rise in demand in data consumption during the lockdown. Entertainment apps, including gaming content, have seen about 200 per cent jump in data consumption, according to industry estimates. Jio announces two new plans with Disney+ Hotstar, up to 3GB data per day

Google-owned <keyword id="10879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube" source="Orion">YouTube</keyword> has warned creators that it will start demonetising kids channels on its platform that produce low-quality videos. YouTube channels that primarily target young audiences are classified as "made for kids". "These channels will need to deliver high-quality content and comply with kids-specific monetisation policies," said James Beser, Director of Product Management, Kids and Family at YouTube. For example, channels that have predominantly low-quality kids content such as "heavily commercial or promotional" or "encouraging negative behaviours or attitudes" may be suspended from YouTube Partner Programme. "And if an individual video violates these quality principles, it may see limited or no ads," Beser added in a blog post late on Monday. Earlier in October, YouTube shared additional monetisation policies for channels that primarily create kids and family content on YouTube. "Going forward, these principles will have not only an impact on recommendations and inclusion in <keyword id="2734963" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube-kids" source="Orion">YouTube Kids</keyword> but also on monetisation," the company warned. YouTube said in Q2 2021, it removed more than 1.8 million videos for violation of its child safety policies. These videos will be refreshed and updated as new kids shows and movies get added to the Netflix library. This feature was first spotted by iOS developer Steve Moser, and it has been <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-11-09/netflix-to-roll-out-tiktok-like-short-clip-feature-aimed-at-kids?cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=business&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic">confirmed</a> by Bloomberg. Kids Clips will basically take short videos from existing movies and shows for kids to watch. There will be an emoji button that kids can tap on if they like the video and options to add the show or movie to ‘My List’. According to Bloomberg, kids will be allowed to watch 10 to 20 clips at a time. It’s similar to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/netflix-launches-fast-laughs-for-mobile-users-to-take-on-instagram-reels-and-tiktok/articleshow/81323740.cms">‘Fast Laughs’</a> feature Netflix launched earlier this year. Here, Netflix shows funny clips from various shows and movies and these videos appear in a vertical format on the app. The Kids Clips feature builds on Fast Laughs but the videos will appear in a horizontal format just like how movies and shows are displayed. Fast Laughs has a more TikTok and Instagram Reels-like format where you swipe to watch videos vertically. This looks like another way for Netflix to expand its offerings, and also incorporate new ways for users to find content on the platform. Netflix has experimented with different ways like ‘Play Something’ that plays episodes from random shows and movies. Speaking of new experiments, Netflix has also ventured into mobile gaming with five new titles for Android users. These games are available on the Netflix app but have to be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Two of the games are based on the Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’ while the other three are casual games. As for Kids Clips, Netflix has started testing this feature in the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. There’s no word on when the feature will be made official. Netflix starts testing TikTok-like short video feature for kids content

New Delhi, Jul 12 () The telecom regulator has asked Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea to put on hold specific plans that promised faster speeds to certain priority users, as it questioned whether the network preference came at the cost of deterioration of services for other subscribers. A source said the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked the two operators to withhold the specific plan for the interim period. The TRAI has written to the two operators -- Airtel and Vodafone Idea -- and questioned them about their individual plans that promised faster speeds to certain priority users. The regulator has asked if priority to high-paying customers in those specific plans came at the cost of service deterioration for other subscribers. It has asked the operators how they are protecting the interest of other general subscribers. When contacted, an Airtel spokesperson said: "We are passionate about delivering the best network and service experience to all our customers." "This is why we have a relentless obsession to eliminate faults, and have been consistently recognised by international agencies as the best network in terms of speed, latency and video experience. "At the same time, we want to keep raising the bar for our post-paid customers in terms of service and responsiveness. This is an ongoing effort at our end," the Airtel spokesperson added. The Bharti Airtel had announced last Monday that it would give preference to platinum mobile customers, who pay Rs 499 and above per month for post -paid connection, on its 4G network. The platinum customers will get better 4G speed on the Airtel network compared to other customers. The TRAI has given Airtel seven days to respond to its questions, a person privy to the development said. In case of Vodafone Idea, the company had launched a postpaid plan, REDX, promising up to 50 per cent faster data speeds, besides other benefits and privileges. Asked about TRAI's latest move, a Vodafone Idea spokesperson said: "Vodafone RedX plan offers a range of benefits including unlimited data, calls, premium content, international roaming pack etc. for our valued postpaid customers who want more." "VIL is committed to serve its customers with the best in class offerings and high speed 4G data across all markets. VIL's fastest 4G speed in many markets, including metros, has been verified by global testing agencies, such as Ookla and OpenSignal amongst others," the VIL spokesperson said. Meanwhile, a VIL source, who did not wish to be named, said the company was taken aback at the TRAI's letter over the weekend asking it to block the plan without any opportunity to respond on an important matter such as tariff. The company source said that the RedX plan was filed with TRAI in November and further modifications to the plan were, once again, duly filed in May. The plan has been in the market for last eight months and customers are already on-boarded.
