Vahan is a tech startup that uses artificial intelligence to match job seekers with employers through messaging apps such as WhatsApp. Airtel and Vahan will now use their resources to provide migrants and workers access to relief services such as food, shelter, healthcare and jobs. What Airtel and Vahan are doing to help migrants and workers Airtel will launch an SMS campaign to reach out to the impacted workers on its network in Delhi and Bengaluru. The SMS, which will be sent in English, Hindi and Kannada will include a link that will direct users to Vahan’s website. Vahan will then use its AI solutions to connect the user with the nearest relief provider. As per the company, it created a resource pool of over 1,000 NGOs that are involved in helping the citizens. Airtel partners with tech startup Vahan to help people find jobs, food, shelter and healthcare

Revenue of telecom service providers through wireless services is likely to fall in the first quarter of FY20-21 due to the nationwide lockdown, according to a report by Emkay Global Financial Services. The report noted that the lockdown delayed recharges by low ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) prepaid subscribers on account of the reverse labour migration and impact on income levels along with curbed subscriber additions, SIM consolidation and absence of international roaming revenues. "We expect ARPU to decline sequentially in Q1FY21 after healthy growth in Q4FY20. Bharti (<keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>) and VIL (<keyword id="1553175" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone-Idea">Vodafone Idea</keyword>) are likely to see 5 per cent quarter-on-quarter (qoq) fall in ARPU. Home broadband to see a healthy increase in new connections, boosted by the lockdown," it said. Subscriber addition shall moderate due to the lack of smartphone sales in April and early May, the report said adding that the reverse migration could lead to subscriber loss for the industry due to delayed or no recharges. Further, it noted that cost savings are expected from marketing, channel margins and other admin costs. Network opex shall continue to rise on increased utilisations. In case of Reliance Jio, the report said that "partial flow-through of the Dec 2019 tariff hike in Q1FY21 would get offset by lockdown-led delayed recharges, resulting in wireless revenues growth of 1 per cent qoq". Lower contribution from international roaming would also restrict ARPU for Jio as compared to peers, it said. "We project subscriber additions to be compressed at 6 million and ARPU to decline 2 per cent qoq, negatively impacted by the lockdown. Similar to Bharti and VIL, subscriber acquisition cost shall fall, leading to 114bps qoq expansion in EBITDA margin." New Delhi, Mar 23 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has written to its competitors Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, BSNL and MTNL for a roaming agreement to facilitate uninterrupted services to support work from home offered by almost all entities in the country amid the coronavirus outbreak. The Sunil Bharti Mittal-led firm on Sunday approached its competitors to set up intra-circle roaming and other processes in the way it is done by the sector to respond to disasters. "In line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP-17) for Telecommunication Services for responding to Disasters, as issued by the Department of Telecommunications, we would like to put in place a protocol amongst the TSPs for implementation of various measures, including intra-circle roaming," Bharti Airtel said in the letter. State governments across the country have either resorted to lockdown or imposed curfew to check movement of people to contain spread of coronavirus. Airtel said the arrangement will be particularly relevant where a site is shut or where the telecom operator is not able to manage the up-time, so that, we can collectively ensure that the services are not interrupted. The company said the government has implemented social distancing measures through various interventions, such as closure of commercial establishments, social centres, educational institutes and has also advised work from home in the case of offices and organisations. "In such circumstances, it is incumbent on the telecom industry to ensure continuous and uninterrupted availability of telecom and internet services, which are essentially the backbone of the digital infrastructure," the letter said. New Delhi, Jul 24 () Mobile operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost 5.26 million and 4.51 million subscribers respectively in April, while Reliance Jio added 1.57 million users during the same period, according to latest Trai data. The subscriber base of Reliance Jio swelled to 389 million in April. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) continued to see subscriber churn in April, when the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic was in force. During that month, Bharti Airtel lost 5.2 million subscribers while VIL lost 4.5 million users. The wireless customer base of Bharti Airtel reduced to 322.5 million, and that of Vodafone Idea to 314.6 million in April. During the same period, Reliance Jio gained 1.57 million users. "Total wireless subscribers (2G, 3G &amp; 4G) decreased from 1,157.75 million at the end of March 20 to 1,149.52 million at the end of April 20, thereby registering a monthly decline rate of 0.71 per cent," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a statement. <ul><li>Bharti Airtel has officially launched its Security Intelligence Centre to protect enterprises from cyberthreats.</li><li>The company’s CEO Gopal Vittal claims that it took around ₹100 crore of investment and over a year to set up. </li><li>Vittal also revealed that the company already has 20 paying customers using the new platform and is hoping that the commercial launch will bring in more clients. </li></ul>To address the growing threat of cyber attacks on data and information, Bharti Airtel has now launched a new cybersecurity product called <keyword id="4644317" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel-Secure">Airtel Secure</keyword> for enterprises. It operates out of the Airtel Security Intelligence Centre set up in Manesar. According to Bharti Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal, the hub took an investment of over ₹100 crore and over a year to set up. But it’s a small price to pay for a piece of the cybersecurity market that is estimated to grow to $13 to $15 billion over the next five years. “We already have a couple of large companies who are already using our Security Intelligence Centre. We’re starting to bundle it for small and medium enterprises as well,” said Vittal, citing that around 20 paying customers already live on the product. The Government of India is also one of the potential customers with it already working hand-in-hand with the National Security Advisor (NSA). Vittal highlighted that there’s a team of over 500 cybersecurity experts behind the ‘integrated and automated’ facility. Roy Zisapel, Radware’s President and CEO, highlighted the recent attack on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, expressing the importance of a product like Airtel Secure for companies as the threat of cyberattacks has increased during the coronavirus pandemic with more people working from home. Vittal is optimistic that companies will sign up because security is no longer something to mull over but ‘basic hygiene’. “It’s become a very serious subject. New Delhi, Apr 20 () Airtel has decided to pay the basic income for April to nearly 25,000 employees of its distribution partners and retail franchisee network to help them tide over the unprecedented situation arising out of the ongoing lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19. In a letter addressed to distribution partners in Delhi NCR, Airtel said it is "acutely sensitive that this sudden lockdown has also reduced your (distribution partners) operations and returns during April. "In order to help you tide over this tough time, we plan to extend a onetime support for the month of April. This is done with an endeavour to ensure that your FSE (field service executive) and other frontline colleagues get their basic income." Similar letters have gone out from various circle CEOs to distributors (of mobile connection and recharges), and retail franchisees network in other locations. While sources said that the move is expected to benefit about 25,000 employees of Airtel's distribution partners, the total monetary outgo for the company on this count could not be ascertained. "We are all going through an unprecedented situation requiring a lockdown, due to which we are seeing a sharp drop in our business as well. "This disruption has impacted many categories sharply. In a way we are fortunate that we are associated with an industry that helps keep the 'lights on' – thereby, keeping the country connected and people in touch with their loved ones," said the Airtel letter seen by . It added that the company is absolutely confident that once the lockdown is over by 3rd May, it will spring back and win in the market place. According to a source, Airtel has also provided free Covid-19 insurance to all field service executives working with its distributors, as a gesture of gratitude. In addition, Airtel will continue to offer scholarship schemes for children of its distributors with the aim of supporting their families. The support to distributors and franchisee partners is part of 'Atoot Bandhan' campaign of the company. India, last week, decided to extend lockdown restrictions till May 3, to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, which has so far claimed 543 lives and infected 17,265 people. Bharti Airtel has said it is extending validity of 30 million low-income prepaid customers till May 3.
