New Delhi, Mar 30 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday announced an extension in the validity period of more than 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited talk time of Rs 10 in these accounts."Airtel has extended the pre-paid pack validity for over 80 million customers till April 17, 2020. All these customers will continue to get incoming calls on their Airtel mobile numbers even after the validity of their plan is exhausted," Airtel said in a statement.     The benefits will be available to users in the next 48 hours, it said.    "Airtel will also credit an additional Rs 10 of talk time in the pre-paid accounts of all these 80 million customers to enable them to make calls or send SMS and therefore stay connected with their loved ones," the statement said.    State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL have also extended validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offer Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.    An Airtel official said that the company will not recover Rs 10 credit given to all the pre-paid customers.     "In this difficult hour of fighting off the threat of covid-19, Airtel is committed to ensuring that all people remain connected without any disruptions. And for this objective, it is critical to take care of the under-privileged daily wage earners of our country, whose lives have been disrupted due to the lock-down," Shashwat Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel said. Bharti Airtel picks up a 25% stake in Bengaluru-based tech startup Lavelle Networks

New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Nokia on Monday announced that its CloudBand-based software products have started powering Bharti Airtels Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network in India. Finnish telecom gear maker firm Nokia in April bagged a deal worth more than Rs 7,500 crore from Bharti Airtel to deploy 5G ready network across the country. According to Nokia, the network supports over 110 million customers, making it the largest cloud-based VoLTE network in India and the largest Nokia-run VoLTE in the world. "Nokia's carrier-grade cloud software solutions drive simplicity and flexibility and will further strengthen Airtel's solid 5G network foundation and transition to innovative digital solutions that are customer and experience centric," said Bhaskar Gorti, President of Nokia Software and Nokia Chief Digital Officer. The cloud-based VoLTE deployment allows Airtel to provide its mobile customers faster and more reliable, cost-efficient call connectivity. Nokia, which is the largest 4G vendor in Airtel network, will help lay the foundation for providing 5G connectivity in the future by deploying 300,000 radio units across several spectrum bands in all 22 telecom service areas expected to be completed by 2022. Nokia's VoLTE solution enables Airtel to free up spectrum by ramping down its 3G network, allowing the operator to utilize the freed up spectrum to deploy 4G/LTE services for better speed and capacity. In a bid to strengthen its 4G network and enhance 5G capabilities in India, Bharti Airtel has inked a $1 billion (nearly ₹7,636 crore), multi-year deal with Nokia to deploy the Finnish majors 5G-ready solutions across nine circles in the country. Nokia, which is the largest 4G vendor in Airtel network, will help lay the foundation for providing 5G connectivity in the future by deploying 300,000 radio units across several spectrum bands in those circles expected to be completed by 2022. Reliable industry sources told IANS on Tuesday that the deal size is approximately $1 billion. "We have been working with Nokia for more than a decade now and are delighted to use Nokia's SRAN products in further improving the capacity and coverage of our network as we prepare for the 5G era," Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO (India and South Asia) at Bharti Airtel, said in a statement. Nokia's SRAN solution helps operators manage their 2G, 3G and 4G networks from one platform reducing network complexity, increasing cost efficiencies and future-proofing investment. The Finnish company will be the sole provider of SRAN in the nine circles in the country. The Nokia supplied networks with their low latency and faster speeds will provide Airtel the best possible platform for when 5G networks launch across the country. Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has written to the <keyword id="30356" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="telecom-regulatory-authority-of-india" source="Orion">Telecom Regulatory Authority of India</keyword> (TRAI) stating that the complaint is a deliberate malicious attempt by Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> Limited (Airtel) to defame RJILs consumer-friendly tariffs in order to protect its narrow interests. Bharti Airtel had filed a complaint on alleged predatory offers of Live TV channels with broadband plans by RJIL. RJIL said a close reading of the complaint letter would clearly establish that Airtel's sole grouse is that JioFiber is offering reasonable tariffs to customers. "Evidently, all its unsubstantiated claims of predation, non-level playing field, and non-compliance with TTOs and NTO are just woven around this singular theme and this complaint should be dismissed simply on the ground of being a frivolous attempt to protect its own interests. Further, Airtel should be warned against making such frivolous complaints in future," RJIL said. It added that the <keyword id="16958414" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jiofiber-backup" source="Orion">JioFiber backup</keyword> tariff is an earnest attempt by RJIL to connect all consumers to fiber optics technology in order to deliver best-in-class connectivity services. JioFiber Backup plan is a 10 Mbps FTTX plan at a monthly rental of Rs 198 (plus taxes). This plan is available only on 5 months advance rental at one go. Further, the subscribers have the option to add Add-on packs of Rs 100 or Rs 200 per month provided by Jio Platforms Limited (<keyword id="136455" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jpl" source="Orion">JPL</keyword>) in order to get access to up to 14 OTT apps along with Jio's OTT apps provided by JPL. Thus, it is evident that RJIL's product offering is limited to connectivity services and it does not include subscriptions to OTT applications or any broadcasting services, the company said in its response to TRAI. RJIL said this is a confusing attempt to deprive the JioFiber customers of an affordable offering that also provides an OTT app subscription at a reasonable price. "Evidently, as Airtel does not have sufficient grounds, it is desperately trying to mix different regulations to make an invalid point. In view of this, we reiterate that Airtel's complaint should be summarily dismissed," RJIL said. (Eds: Adding details) New Delhi, Apr 28 () Finnish telecom gear maker firm <keyword id="6354716" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nokia">Nokia</keyword> has bagged a Rs 7,500 crore <keyword id="30336" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deal">deal</keyword> from Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> to deploy <keyword id="764355" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G">5G</keyword> ready network across nine service areas in the country. Under the deal, Nokia will deploy 3 lakh base stations for 4G services which can be upgraded to <keyword id="1671940" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-network">5G network</keyword> once the spectrum is available for the next generation service, according to the announcement made by Bharti Airtel on Tuesday. Bharti Airtel announced a multi-year agreement to deploy Nokia's Single Radio Access Network (SRAN) solution across nine circles in India, helping the telcos to enhance the network capacity of its networks, in particular 4G, and improve customer experience. According to sources the deal size is around Rs 7,500 crore. "The rollout, which will also lay the foundation for providing 5G connectivity in the future, will see approximately 3,00,000 radio units deployed across several spectrum bands, including 900 Mhz, 1800 Mhz, 2100 Mhz and 2300 Mhz, and is expected to be completed by 2022," Bharti Airtel said in a statement. This is the first network expansion deal of the year and during the lockdown period, when demand for high speed data has increased by about 20 per cent at pan-India level. "We are committed to continuously invest in emerging network technologies to provide a best-in-class experience to our customers. This initiative with Nokia is a major step in this direction. "We have been working with Nokia for more than a decade now and are delighted to use Nokia's SRAN products in further improving the capacity and coverage of our network as we prepare for the 5G era," Gopal Vittal, MD &amp; CEO (India and South Asia) at Bharti Airtel, said. The deal includes network expansion in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar and UP East. These circles jointly account for more than half of Bharti Airtel subscribers and the deal consolidates Nokia as lead network vendor for the Sunil Bharti Mittal led firm. "This is an important agreement for the future of connectivity in one of the world's largest telecom markets and solidifies our position in India. We have worked closely with Bharti Airtel for many years and are delighted to extend this long-standing partnership further. "This project will enhance their current networks and deliver best-in-class connectivity to Airtel customers but also lay the foundations for 5G services in the future," Rajeev Suri, President and Chief Executive Officer at Nokia said. According to global telecom body GSMA, India is the second largest telecom market in the world and is expected to reach 92 crore unique mobile customers by 2025, which will also include 8.8 crore 5G connections. Nokia's MBiT Index 2020 found a massive increase in demand for data services with traffic increasing by 47 per cent in 2019 alone. Nokia bags Rs 7,500 cr deal from Airtel to deploy 5G network

The tiff between <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> and <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> over inter connectivity is soon going to end. Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> - today said it has received payment from the new entrant for additional points of interconnect, and sought Jio's cooperation for timely testing and commissioning of the network ports, according to an agency report. 
 
Airtel said while interconnect agreement provides for a commissioning period of 90 days, the company will work towards releasing the points of interconnect or PoIs "well ahead" of the contractual obligation. The telecom operator said it has ensured there are no capacity constraints from its end. 
 
"We hope Jio will extend its full cooperation to ensure timely testing and commissioning of the PoIs," it said in a statement. 
 
Airtel released 'demand notes' for the additional PoIs on September 14 itself, the statement said adding that the payment against the demand notes came in over the next two days. 
 
"The payment against the demand notes was received in parts by Airtel on September 15, 2016 and September 16, 2016. As per the bilateral agreement, Airtel and Jio will now have to jointly undertake the physical connection and testing of the PoIs. Consequent to successful testing of the PoIs, these will be opened for traffic," the statement said. 
 
Interconnection between telecom networks is crucial as it enables mobile users to make calls to subscribers of other operator. 
 The three incumbent operators - <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>, Vodafone and Idea - had locked horns with new entrant over points of interconnect. However, following <keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword>'s intervention and a warning from the regulator on complying with service quality norms, the warring sides came to the negotiation table to discuss additional connectivity points needed by Reliance Jio. 
 
During course of the week, all three private operators have agreed to augment the interconnection capacity, a move that is expected to facilitate easy exchange of calls between subscribers of Jio and other networks, reported the agency. 
 
Reliance Jio, which commercially launched services on September 5, has accused the existing players of not releasing sufficient ports on their networks, thereby leading to a situation where 75 of its calls are failing, out of every 100 call attempts. 
 
But Airtel today said with the latest augmentation, the total number of PoIs provided will become three times the present level. 
 
"This capacity will be sufficient to serve over 15 million customers, which is much more than Jio's total subscriber base...," Airtel said. 
 
The telecom major said it has been providing interconnectivity to Jio "well ahead" of the commencement of latter's commercial operations and said it will continue to comply with the regulations and the Interconnect Agreements in letter and spirit.
