In a huge success to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">PM Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Narendra+Modi">Modi</a>’s ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=make+in+india">Make in India</a>’ initiative, <keyword id="6356166" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airbus">Airbus</keyword> said commercial aircraft produced by it is partly 'Made in India'. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=airbus">Airbus Group</a> said it exceeded the $500 million annual procurement mark from India in 2015 and now is targeting over $2 billion in cumulative procurement, covering both civil and defence, in the five years up to 2020. 
 
The last year's figure represents a 15 per cent growth over 2014. 
 
Overall, Airbus Group's procurement from India has grown 16 times in the last decade. Today, every Airbus commercial aircraft being produced is partly Made-in-India, a statement by the company said. 
 
"Indian suppliers are a cornerstone of our globalisation strategy," said Klaus Richter, Chief Procurement Officer, Airbus Group and Airbus, adding "Many of the projects with our Indian partners have been very successful and we aim to further strengthen these relationships in future." 
 
Over 6,000 people at more than 45 suppliers, both public and private, are directly engaged in providing engineering and IT services, aero-structures, detail parts and systems, materials and cabins to the group for several of its leading platforms, including A380, A350 XWB, A320 Family, A330, C295W, A400M, Eurofighter, Tiger and NH90.

Airbus leads by example in Make in India campaign, crosses $500-million annual procurement mark

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=airbus">Airbus Group</a> said it can invest a whopping Rs 5,000 crore in India under the ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=make+in+india">Make in India</a>’ programmes, adding it takes two to tango. 
 Pierre de Bausset, President and Managing Director of <keyword id="6356166" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airbus">Airbus</keyword> Group India, said, “We are ready to do the same but it takes two to tango. We need the government to actually give us contract.” 
 
Meanwhile, European defence major Airbus Group also today cautioned that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=FDI+in+defence">49 per cent FDI limit in defence</a> sector cannot fetch India the industry or the right original equipment manufacturer. 
 
"..forget about 49 per cent. It is not going to get an industry and it is not going to get OEMs (original equipment manufacturer) of quality. You may get a few but not the right ones," said Pierre. 
 
Pitching for "fair business", he said that in the beginning, their Indian partners will need them a lot before they become the real champions that India has in mind. 
 
"And when they need us a lot in the beginning, I want fair business. Fair business means that we need to have levels of controls that are appropriate for the risks that we are taking. 
 "So setting the limit at 49 per cent or whatever amount is not... you have to think in terms of how do you attract us, how do you attract talent, how do you make it a good win-win partnership and not a very straight-jacket in the beginning," he said addressing reporters here ahead of the <keyword id="982460" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-expo">Defence Expo</keyword> later this month.

Airbus willing to invest Rs 5,000 crore in India, says it takes two to tango

<keyword id="6356166" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airbus">Airbus</keyword> is planning to achieve $2 billion in cumulative sourcing from India by 2020. The company’s newly announced India President <keyword id="2883116" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pierre-de-Bausset">Pierre de Bausset</keyword> updated Airbus’ strategy for growth in India specifically. 
 After taking the charge as <keyword id="2903023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airbus-India-president">Airbus India president</keyword> on June 1 Bausset said, "Synergies, growth, consistency and coherence are the main tenets of my vision for a robust <keyword id="2903024" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airbus-Group-India">Airbus Group India</keyword>, adding "My mandate is to further boost Airbus Group's collaboration with India and embed it durably in the overall Airbus Group's industrial organization. It would open up more opportunities for us to partner with domestic players to fulfill requirements of our local customers as well as jointly target export markets.” 
 
Emphasising that sourcing and engineering are most significant factors of company’s growth in India, Bausset said, "I admire the intelligence and competitive attitude of Indian engineers and Indians in general. There is plenty of potential to make India a hub for engineering and innovation in the Group." 
Bausset’s journey with Airbus is 25 years old where he was the Corporate Secretary of Airbus Group since 2008. Pierre has been the Head of Investor Relations and Financial Communications for the group and prior to that he was with Aerospatiale, first heading a finance subsidiary in the US and later as the Head of Mergers &amp; Acquisitions, precisely when it merged to become EADS.

Representatives for IndiGo didn't immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment. Both companies declined to comment to Reuters.Budget carrier IndiGo is already an exclusive buyer of narrow-body jets from Airbus, but was also considering Boeing 737 Max for its potentially historic order, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/indigo-pits-boeing-against-airbus-record-jet-order-talks-2023-03-03/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reuters said in March</a>.However, the airline may stick with Airbus to gain more economies of scale as it already has more than 800 A320 planes on order, the report added.That's in contrast with Air India's massive order, which was split between 220 Boeing planes and 250 Airbus planes.India is the <a href="https://www.bqprime.com/business/air-india-indian-aviation-market-and-tailwinds-of-growth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">world's fastest growing aviation market</a> and the third largest overall, according to BQ Prime. In February, Boeing predicted that India would see <a href="https://www.boeing.co.in/news-and-media-room/news-releases/2023/february/india-passenger-traffic-transitions-to-growth.page" target="_blank" rel="noopener">long-term passenger growth of nearly 7%</a> annually through 2041.That means India will need about 2,210 new airplanes over the next two decades, with single-aisle jets comprising 90% of that, according to Boeing."This trend exemplifies India's commitment to modernizing its fleet with more sustainable and fuel-efficient next-generation airplanes," said Dave Schulte, Boeing commercial marketing managing director for Asia Pacific, <a href="https://www.boeing.co.in/news-and-media-room/news-releases/2023/february/india-passenger-traffic-transitions-to-growth.page" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in February.</a>

Boeing rival Airbus nears record order for 500 planes from India's largest airline, report says

Tata Group-owned <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword>, which placed a 250-aircraft order with <keyword id="6356166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airbus" source="Orion">Airbus</keyword> earlier this year, has rejigged the order, which will now have more number of A321neo <keyword id="6385716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aircraft" source="Orion">aircraft</keyword>, according to sources. As part of the 250 aircraft order with Airbus, the airline was to acquire 210 narrowbody A320 family planes, comprising 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo and remaining 40 widebody A350s, consisting of six A350-900 and 34 A350-1000s. Air India has tweaked the order with Airbus and will now acquire 140 A321neo and 70 A320neo, while the order for 40 A350s has also been rejigged, the source said. As against the earlier order of six A350-900 and 34 A350-1000s, Air India has changed it to 20 A350-900s and 20 A350-1000s, the source added. In response to a PTI query, Air India spokesperson said, "We regularly review our orderbook based on business requirements and opportunities, and exercise contractual flexibilities as appropriate". When reached out for comments, Airbus said, "It is up to our customers to disclose their strategy." Tata Group took control of loss-making Air India in January 2022. Earlier this year, Air India placed orders for 470 aircraft from Airbus and <keyword id="6357957" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword> at USD 70 billion (based on published list prices). Its Boeing aircraft order for 220 aircraft comprises 190 Boeing 737MAX narrowbody planes, 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 10 Boeing 777X.

Air India rejigs 250-aircraft Airbus order

The <keyword id="6355100" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Navy">Indian Navy</keyword> is in the process of selecting private and public vendors from the country to procure new utility helicopters at the estimated cost of over Rs 20,000 crore, reported the Economic Times. The Navy has sent a proposal to the <keyword id="6369097" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Defence">Ministry of Defence</keyword> which specifies that it needs 110 naval utility helicopters, out of which 94 are to be made in India in partnership with a foreign partner. 

	Moreover, the valuation of the contract makes it the largest 'Make in India' chopper deal till date, exceeding the Army light utility chopper deal that was given to Russia's Kamov in May and will cost over Rs 5,000 crore. 
 

	According to sources, the Navy has also proposed to purchase torpedoes and depth charges for choppers and that weapon trials would be held in India and abroad.
 As it was reported, 11 Indian companies, including <keyword id="45224" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahindra">Mahindra</keyword>, Tata, L&amp;T and <keyword id="10926" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword>, have shown interest to the proposal that was issued by the Navy earlier this year. All offered helicopters to be ‘Made in India’ in collaboration with a foreign firm. Mahindra and <keyword id="6356166" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airbus">Airbus</keyword> have even announced discussions on the formation of a joint venture (JV). The companies aim to form a JV firm in the coming months for ‘Make in India’ chopper contracts in what is speculated to be an exclusive contract for Airbus. While 11 Indian entities have expressed interest, there are only a handful of foreign companies with a helicopter that meets Indian requirements. These include Airbus, Bell and banned Italian entity <keyword id="252971" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="AgustaWestland">AgustaWestland</keyword>. 

	To make the selection more competitive, the Navy has decided that more than one Indian company can offer the same helicopter. This would mean that a foreign company could tie up with two more Indian entities. As the cutting factor is pricing, an intense competition is expected in the private sector to tie up JVs and MoUs.

Push to 'Make in India'! Navy to screen private and public vendors for Rs 20K-crore deal

<ul><li>The <keyword id="15141" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Air-Force">Indian Air Force</keyword> (IAF) has initiated work on two of its ambitious ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ projects to acquire <keyword id="6408212" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="114-fighter-jets">114 fighter jets</keyword> and the C-295 transport aircraft. </li><li>The project for 114 fighter jets is presently the biggest deal around the world, and includes French, US, Rusian and the European fighter <keyword id="6624488" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eurofighter-Typhoon">Eurofighter Typhoon</keyword>. </li><li>The project is worth ₹1,50,000 crore and the C-295 transport aircraft is worth ₹11,929 crore. </li></ul>The Indian Air Force has initiated the process of its two ambitious Make in India projects for 114 fighter jets and 56 medium transport transport aircraft, worth about ₹1,50,000 crore. The authorities are working on a project to manufacture 114 fighter jets, as the request for proposal (RFP)---which invites interested bidders---might be issued in late 2019 or early 2020, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/iaf-pushes-for-mega-make-in-india-projects-for-fighters-transport-planes/articleshow/70120240.cms?from=mdr">reported the Time of India</a>. A large number of international players are known to be interested to take part in indegenous production of these fighter jets. One of them known to be in the race is Rafale, along with F/A-18 and F-16 from the US, Mig 35 and Sukhoi-35 from Russia, Gripen-E from Sweden, and the Eurofighter typhoon. Depleting Numbers The proposal for 114 fighter jets is presently world’s biggest deal in aviation industry. “The 114-fighter project is crucial because the 36 Rafales and the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft will not make up for the fast depleting numbers. There is an urgent need to plan for the future,” <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/iaf-pushes-for-mega-make-in-india-projects-for-fighters-transport-planes/articleshow/70120240.cms?from=mdr">a source told TOI</a>. The Indian Air Force (IAF) severely lacks fighter squadrons. Only 30 of the 42 available squadrons are in working condition. However, these numbers will be reinforced as Rafale jets from <keyword id="6354785" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="france">France</keyword> will be delivered in May 2020. The deal worth ₹56,000 crore was finalised in 2016. The induction team of the IAF which includes 10 pilots, 10 flight engineers and 40 technicians are currently undergoing training in France. Tata-Airbus venture The Air Force is already working on medium transport aircraft which will be manufactured by the TATA-Airbus consortium. This production is expected to kickstart in 2019-20. The TATA-Airbus joint venture for 56 twin turboprop tactical C-295 is in its final stages. “The extensive trials and CNC (contract negotiations committee) are over now. DAC will take up the project to approve certain deviations before sending it to the cabinet committee on security for the final nod,” as per sources. The C-295 planes will replace the Avro Aircraft, which was first inducted in 1960’s. Initially valued at ₹11,929 crore, it was meant for the Indian private sector to enter aerospace manufacturing. The aircraft will be delivered in two phases. Airbus will supply the first 10 aircraft and the remaining 40 will be manufactured by TATA in India, over the next eight years.

Air Force to call bids for 114 jets worth ₹1,50,000 crore--to be Made in India

IndiGo, India's largest air carrier, filed a <a href="http://www.investmentbank.kotak.com/downloads/interglobe-aviation-limited-DRHP.pdf">draft prospectus</a> on Tuesday for an IPO that would include the sale of 30.15 million existing shares worth 12.7 billion rupees, or $199.64 million. In total, the IPO could bring in close to $400 million, <a href="http://in.reuters.com/article/2015/06/30/indigo-ipo-idINKCN0PA0H020150630">according to Reuters</a>. The wire service also reports that among those who stand to fair the best from this massive offering is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-airways-ceo-how-911-changed-our-airline-2011-9">former U.S. Airways CEO</a> Rakesh Gangwal. He left the company to found IndiGo in 2006. Air travel in India has been increasing for some time now, and IndiGo has capitalized on this. <a href="http://qz.com/441047/go-indigo-indias-most-awaited-aviation-ipo-is-finally-here/">Quartz reports</a>: In 2011, IndiGo <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-the-40-billion-jet-buying-spree-by-indias-biggest-airline-2014-10">agreed to purchase</a> 180 Airbus A320neo aircraft. Air India's business class is also way behind industry standards.Most notably, business sports a 2×3×2 layout — meaning travelers can still be assigned a dreaded middle seat. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">Aly Weisman/Business InsiderAn Uber helicopter in New York City.</div></div></div>Uber is planning to fly people around a festival in Airbus helicopters, the <a href="http://www.wsj.com/article_email/airbus-to-join-forces-with-uber-for-on-demand-helicopter-service-ceo-says-1453048668-lMyQjAxMTI2MTExNzUxODc5Wj" target="_blank">Wall Street Journal reports</a>.Airbus chief executive Tom Enders told the newspaper that Uber is going to trial the European aerospace giant's choppers at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA, this week."Its a pilot project, we'll see where it goes - but it's pretty exciting," said Enders in an interview with the Journal at the <a href="http://dld-conference.com/" target="_blank">Digital Life Design</a> conference in Munich.Uber confirmed to Business Insider that it is working with Airbus, adding that it wants to make it easier for people to get around Sundance.An Airbus spokesperson said that Uber is using the Airbus H125 and H130 helicopters for the Sundance project, adding that Uber has partnered with Air Resources, a Utah-based operator of H125 helicopters, in order to deliver the service.Uber's helicopter customers will be picked up in a car first and driven to their take off point, according to the Journal.Uber started life as a taxi-hailing app in San Francisco but it has expanded its services to rickshaws in India and boats in Turkey, amongst other services. In 2013, Uber first tested its "UberChopper" service in New York between Manhattan and the Hamptons. Addressing the media virtually, <keyword id="166282" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wilson" source="Orion">Wilson</keyword> further said the process of integration of Vistara with Air India is underway and is now awaiting approval from the <keyword id="97393" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="competition-commission-of-india" source="Orion">Competition Commission of India</keyword> (CCI). The integration of Air India Express and AIX Connect, earlier known as AirAsia India, is also underway. Air India has enormous potential and unprecedented opportunities. The group is working on becoming a significant international player, he said. On February 14, Air India announced placing an order for 470 planes, including 70 wide-body aircraft. Wilson said the funding would be through a combination of various sources. The <keyword id="6355725" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-group" source="Orion">Tata Group</keyword> took over Air India in January last year. Air India has placed an order for 470 planes with Airbus and Boeing, and there is also an option to acquire another 370 aircraft. Out of the firm order for 470 planes, 250 are from Airbus and 220 from Boeing. "We don't have a timeline... will evaluate the market," Wilson said with respect to exercising the option to purchase another 370 planes.
