New Delhi, <keyword id="842113" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Domestic-air-passenger-traffic" source="Orion">Domestic air passenger traffic</keyword> in the country recorded an annual growth of nearly 11 per cent to 1.26 crore in October, according to official data released on Thursday. The traffic stood at 1.14 crore passengers in October 2022 and at 1.22 crore passengers in September this year. The data released by aviation regulator DGCA showed that IndiGo carried 79.07 lakh passengers, garnering a domestic market share of 62.6 per cent in October. The market share was lower compared to 63.4 per cent registered in September. Last month, Air India's domestic market share climbed to 10.5 per cent from 9.8 per cent in September while that of Vistara and AirAsia India (renamed as AIX Connect) declined to 9.7 per cent and 6.6 per cent, respectively, in October. SpiceJet's market share grew to 5 per cent in October from 4.4 per cent in September while that of Akasa Air remained unchanged at 4.2 per cent. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-October 2023 were 1,254.98 lakhs as against 988.31 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering annual growth of 26.98 per cent and monthly growth of 10.78 per cent," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said. As many as 587 passengers were denied boarding by scheduled airlines in October, according to the data. A total of 30,307 passengers were affected by flight cancellations and 1,78,227 passengers were impacted due to flight delays last month.

Domestic air passenger traffic rises 11% in October

Now <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=air+travellers">air travellers</a> will be able to avail higher compensation in case of death, injury, lost baggage as the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=parliament">Parliament</a> passed the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill. 
 After the President’s nod, the <keyword id="55351" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-passengers">air passengers</keyword> will be able compensated equivalent to the rates paid by their global counterparts. 
 
In case of death in an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=air+accidents\">air accident</a>, the amount would be calculated on the basis of SDR (<keyword id="381005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Special-Drawing-Rights">Special Drawing Rights</keyword>). 
 
The Bill intends to raise the liability limit for damage in case of death or bodily injury for each person from 1,00,000 SDR to 1,13,100 SDR. 
The currency value of the SDR is based on market exchange rates of a basket of major currencies - US dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen and Pound Sterling. 
 
As per the latest exchange rate, the compensation limit rises to more than Rs 1 crore. One SDR is equivalent to around Rs 93. 
 
According to the Bill, the liability for delay in carriage for each person was proposed to be raised from 4,150 SDR to 4,694 SDR, while the liability in case of destruction, loss, damage or delay of baggage is proposed to be raised from 1,000 SDR to 1,131 SDR.

"Post-Covid, India's domestic aviation's turnaround story has not just been overwhelming but inspiring as well. "Positive attitude, progressive policies, and deep trust among passengers are taking it to new heights with every flight, every day," the <keyword id="58151" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="civil-aviation-ministry" source="Orion">civil aviation ministry</keyword> said in a post on X on Friday. As per official data, the total number of domestic passengers was 4,63,417 and the number of flight movements stood at 5,998 on Thursday (November 23). In a post on X, civil aviation minister <keyword id="29632" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jyotiraditya-scindia" source="Orion">Jyotiraditya Scindia</keyword> on Friday said a new record has been set in Indian domestic aviation. Domestic air traffic had touched new peaks for three consecutive days -- November 18, 19 and 20.

As per the data for November from aviation regulator <keyword id="6354787" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dgca" source="Orion">DGCA</keyword> released on Monday, Indigo carried 65.01 lakh <keyword id="55351" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-passengers" source="Orion">air passengers</keyword> during the month while Vistara carried 10.87 lakh. <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> was in the third position with 10.63 lakh passengers and a 9.1 per cent market share. Similarly, Go Air, with 8.70 lakh passengers, had a market share of 7.5 per cent during November. As per the DGCA data, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month has been 0.25 per cent, and the main reasons have been identified as weather, technical, or operational. A maximum of 41.7 per cent of flights were cancelled due to technical reasons and 31.6 per cent due to weather-related reasons during the month. Domestic aviation traffic continues to record growth as passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-November 2022 stood at 11.05 crore as against 7.26 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year, registering an annual growth of 52.19 per cent and monthly growth of 11.06 per cent. <ul><li>India's domestic <keyword id="4846499" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation-traffic">aviation traffic</keyword> has been recorded as 9.1%, according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). </li><li>The domestic fares in the month of January were over 15% higher than during the same period last year. </li><li>According to the report, a total of 12.50 million passengers took domestic flights last month.</li></ul>India's domestic air passenger traffic has slowed down further — with an year-on-year growth of 9.1% in January 2019 — which is the <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/logistics/domestic-airlines-record-9-per-cent-growth-indigo-retains-number-1-position/article26319510.ece">slowest</a> in last four years. According to the data put out by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the domestic aviation traffic increased from 11.4 million in January 2018 to 12.5 million for the same period this year.

 Over the past four years, the domestic passenger traffic in India has consistently been in double digits. However, the slowdown has been affecting the aviation industry since a few months. According to the industry watchdog, the slow growth may be <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/not-flying-high-air-passenger-traffic-growth-in-jan-slowest-in-over-four-years/1493852/">attributed</a> to the rising fares and lesser demand in contrast. In fact, the domestic fares in the month of January were over 15% higher than during the same period last year. With AirAsia India as an exception, the other domestic carriers in India reported an year-on-year decline at nearly 3%, in terms of occupancy. While AirAsia, a Tata sons joint venture, recorded nearly 84% occupancy. Additionally, weather disruptions played a big part in affecting flight schedules leading to several flight cancellations, thereby affecting the passenger traffic for the carrier. However, the DGCA <a href="https://www.zeebiz.com/india/news-aviation-flight-cancellations-affect-jan-air-passenger-growth-86834">reportedly</a> said that the downward projection is due to the tourist season coming to an end. Air traffic and fares were also significantly affected due to operational factors, leading to last minute cancellations, said Aloke Bajpai, CEO, ixigo. The last minute airfares therefore hiked to nearly 20-25% last month, he added. As per the DGCA's monthly traffic data, a total of 12.50 million passengers took domestic flights last month. While 11.46 million flyers boarded in January 2018 — accounting for the 9% growth, IANS reported. The rate of cancellations of scheduled domestic carriers was noted at 1.81% — with nearly 917 flyer complaints. India's domestic air passenger growth is at its lowest in four years

New Delhi, Nov 18 () Indicating some recovery in the aviation sector due to the tourist season, the domestic air passenger traffic this October increased by 3.98 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the DGCA on Monday.
In September this year, the domestic passenger growth was just 1.18 per cent compared to the same month last year.
The domestic air traffic last month consisted of 12.31 million passengers compared to 11.84 million passengers in the same month last year, a jump of 3.98 per cent, as per data.
On the date for October, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said, "The passenger load factor in the month of October 2019 has shown increasing trend compared to previous months primarily due to the onset of tourist season."
However, the passenger load factor of all major airlines -- Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo, AirAsia and Vistara -- declined in October as compared to September this year, as per DGCA data.
The passenger load factor measures the seat capacity utilisation of the airline.
 IndiGo maintained its lead position with 47.4 per cent share of the domestic passenger market in October, the data showed.
SpiceJet's market share increased from 14.7 per cent in September to 16.3 per cent in October, giving it the number two spot, as per the data.
The market share of Air India, GoAir, AirAsia and Vistara was 12.6 per cent, 11.2 per cent, 6.5 per cent and 5.4 per cent respectively last month. 
In October this year, a total of 791 passenger-related complaints were received by the domestic airlines, according to DGCA data. 
The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of October was around 0.64.
Among major domestic airlines, Air India topped the list of passenger grievances with 1.6 complaints per 10,000 passengers in September, while SpiceJet was on number two position with 0.8 complaints per 10,000 passengers, as per DGCA data. DSP DSP RDM

New Delhi, Apr 30 () Amid the coronavirus pandemic, domestic air passenger traffic in March fell by 33.06 per cent to 77.62 lakh as compared to the same month last year, the aviation regulator DGCA said on Thursday. India has been under a lockdown since March 25 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. All commercial passenger flights have been suspended for the lockdown period. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, passenger load factors of all airlines in India decreased significantly in March as compared to February. Passenger load factor measures the seat capacity utilisation of the airline. "The passenger load factor in the month of March 2020 has shown a sharp decline due to suspension of air operations because of COVID-19 outbreak," the DGCA explained. At 83.7 per cent, SpiceJet saw the highest passenger load factor in March. At number two, GoAir had 78.9 per cent load factor. In February this year, the rise in the number of domestic air passengers was 8.9 per cent to 1.23 crore when compared with the figures of the corresponding month in 2019. Indian aviation sector has been hit hard due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has infected more than 33,000 people and killed at least 1,070 people in the country till now. According to the DGCA data released on Thursday, IndiGo maintained its lead position with 48.9 per cent share of the domestic passenger market in March 2020. COVID-19 effect: Domestic air passenger traffic fell by 33 pc in March, says DGCA

India's domestic air passenger traffic rose 9% to more than 1.27 crore in November, according to official data released on Friday. Last month also saw daily air traffic touching new highs multiple times. <keyword id="6354706" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigo" source="Orion">IndiGo</keyword> remained the country's largest domestic carrier but its market share declined to 61.8% in November from 62.6% in October. However, none of the scheduled carriers had an On-Time Performance (OTP) score of more than 80% in November. Official data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday showed that airlines flew 1.27 crore passengers in November compared to 1.17 crore in the year-ago period. This marks a growth of 9.06% on an annual basis. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-November 2023 were 1,382.34 lakhs as against 1,105.10 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering annual growth of 25.09% and monthly growth of 9.06%," DGCA said. The domestic market share of <keyword id="6358032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet" source="Orion">SpiceJet</keyword> rose to 6.2% in November from 5% in October. As per the data, Akasa Air topped the OTP chart at 78.2%, followed by IndiGo at 77.5% and Vistara at 72.8%. Air India's OTP was at 62.5% while that of AIX Connect and Alliance Air were at 69.7% and 66.1%, respectively. On-Time Performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines is computed for four metro airports -- Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
