A strong bond with pets, especially dogs, could help relieve <keyword id="21879957" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anxiety-and-depression" source="keywords">anxiety and depression</keyword> in women, especially those who had experienced <keyword id="20150193" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="childhood-trauma" source="keywords">childhood trauma</keyword>, according to US research. Researchers said that while previous studies have looked at depression and anxiety among adult pet owners in mid-life and older, the findings have been "mixed". However, actively engaging with pets has been previously studied to lower anxiety and depression levels in patients with <keyword id="63552" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HIV/AIDS" source="Orion">HIV/AIDS</keyword> and terminal cancer. The researchers, including those at Harvard University, said the positive influence of pets could be linked to levels of engagement and attachment to pets, rather than just owning them. They added that a stronger bond with pets is related with an insecure <keyword id="22644850" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="human-attachment-style" source="Orion">human attachment style</keyword>. In this study, published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open, the researchers recruited over 200 women, of which close to 73% were survivors of childhood physical or sexual abuse. On average, the women were aged 60 years. The authors used questionnaires to assess the women's pet attachment and psychological tests to gauge anxiety and depression levels. "Compared with participants with dog attachments, those attached to cats, on average, were more likely to have experienced life-threatening events, and less likely to have experienced childhood abuse," they wrote. The researchers also found that women with cat attachments scored typically higher on depression and anxiety, and were more likely to show clinical symptoms, compared to women with dog attachments. Overall, however, a stronger attachment to dogs was found to be linked with <keyword id="22644849" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lower-distress" source="keywords">lower distress</keyword> levels, along with lower anxiety and depression scores. "While not directly applicable to clinical practice, our results point to an important aspect of pet attachment as a factor improving the <keyword id="20957744" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="psychological-well-being" source="keywords">psychological well-being</keyword> of particularly vulnerable owners, and will therefore also be of value to clinicians," the authors wrote. The results add to research regarding the complex nature and consequences of human-animal bonds among those who may have developed an insecure human attachment style owing to childhood trauma, they said.

According to a document from the Education Department reviewed by Business Insider, MOHELA has failed to process over 460,000 applications for borrowers on income-driven repayment plans, preventing those borrowers from accessing more affordable <keyword id="23618291" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="monthly-payments" source="keywords">monthly payments</keyword>. The department also said Mohela had failed to stop capitalizing interest on borrowers' accounts, incorrectly marked some borrowers for negative credit reporting, and failed to process forgiveness in a timely manner for borrowers who met the threshold. "The Department continues to take swift action in response to errors that cause confusion or unnecessary difficulty for borrowers," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona told BI in a statement. "<keyword id="23618292" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="federal-student-aid" source="keywords">Federal Student Aid</keyword> has determined, through its oversight of federal <keyword id="21652556" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="student-loan" source="keywords">student loan</keyword> servicers, that MOHELA has not consistently met the Department's standards for serving borrowers. MOHELA's continued challenges have resulted in less-than-satisfactory quality of servicing for borrowers." The Education Department requested that MOHELA provide a "corrective action plan" within 10 business days, Cardona said, along with weekly meetings with Federal Student Aid to review the servicer's performance . In the meantime, the department will not assign new borrower accounts to MOHELA until it can demonstrate that it can properly serve borrowers, which could impact the servicer's revenue. A Mohela spokesperson told BI that the servicer "is surprised by FSA's sudden change in direction and communication" after the Education Department recently gave it new borrower accounts. "As one of FSA's critical partners and contractors, MOHELA has and will continue to work closely with FSA," the spokesperson said. Since <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-repayment-issues-debt-relief-broken-industry-2023-9">student-loan payments resumed last October</a> after an over three-year pause, MOHELA has been under scrutiny from the Education Department, lawmakers, and advocates over its handling of borrowers' accounts. It was the first servicer to receive a punishment from the department last year — on October 30, 2023, the department <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-company-mohela-late-statements-borrowers-biden-withholding-pay-2023-10">withheld $7.2 million in pay from MOHELA</a> over its failure to deliver on-time billing statements to 2.5 million borrowers. This is the second time Mohela has faced changes to the accounts it manages.In April, the Education Department transferred over 1 million borrowers to new servicers to allow for borrowers to have "the best service." This is the second penalty MOHELA has faced this year.In January, the department <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-borrowers-missing-billing-statements-servicers-punishment-nelnet-mohela-2024-1">withheld pay from the remaining three major federal servicers</a> over failure to deliver on-time billing statements to borrowers. Still, MOHELA has remained in the spotlight as borrowers have continued to report challenges with the servicer, prompting Sen. Elizabeth Warren to hold a hearing in April over the servicer's performance and later calling for the Education Department to consider terminating the servicer's contract altogether. 'We've organized, we've held hearings, we've done everything possible to hold these student loan servicers accountable for their misconduct," Warren <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-borrowers-fire-their-servicer-elizabeth-warren-mohela-navient-2024-9">previously told BI</a>. "And it's beginning to bite. For example, joining clubs or activities often leads to people eating food together afterward.When you do have to eat alone, Baum recommends engaging in non-technological activities at the table, like reading a book or magazine. Flipping pages can slow the eating process, giving you time to savor your meal.You can also improve the experience of eating alone by establishing a mealtime routine, such as sitting in a regular spot and being mindful of your intake.<h2 id="a8a25dae-1ed4-47d8-b415-01087dd32d1e">We evolved to eat together</h2>Historically, meals have always been social events, particularly for many cultures, says clinical psychologist Daniel Glazer, citing examples like Italy's aperitivo hour and Spain's tradition of pausing work for multi-course lunches."These moments aren't merely about refueling," he says. It has been edited for length and clarity.Performing arts has been a part of my life since childhood in Newark, New Jersey. In middle school, I won an award for reciting poetry, and I was lucky enough to experience some really great <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ballroom-dancing-helped-gen-z-make-friends-work-from-home-2024-10">dance training</a>.Growing up, my mom stumbled upon two established dancers who came out of the vaudeville era in the 50's and enrolled me in dance lessons with them. In their classes, I had the opportunity to learn all kinds of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-dancing-with-the-stars-looks-like-around-the-world-2019-1">world dances</a>. We didn't just learn ballet, tap, or modern jazz. Because of those classes, I can do Tinikling dancing with bamboo poles from the Philippines, play the castanets, do the hula, and do Irish step dancing.As a kid, I thought everyone learned dance styles from around the world while in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/my-kids-school-dance-didnt-allow-any-cell-phones-2024-5">dance school</a>, but that's often not the case. It was a very eye-opening experience.<h2 id="b4527463-48bb-436c-9cf7-a303701436e3">I kept performing as an adult</h2>My performing arts journey did not end in childhood. As an adult, I auditioned for several <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/8-rules-of-theater-etiquette-according-to-broadway-actors-2021-11">Broadway shows</a> but didn't get cast. Instead, I wound up doing a lot of work in community theater, and I've been teaching theater for 50 years. I've taught at the middle school, high school, and university levels. I always say I'm a woman of many gigs, and in 2001 specifically, I was teaching at two places. All week, I would teach public middle school and high school courses, and then on Saturday, I would teach two three-credit courses back to back at William Paterson University.Everybody used to question why I would teach all week and then get up early at 8 o'clock to teach on the weekends, but I told them I loved it. And I loved that my students wanted to be there. Many of my university-level students at that time had full lives, whether they were <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stay-at-home-mom-equal-marriage-not-trad-wife-2024-10">married or had kids</a>, but they were interested in hearing me share my passion. I consider sharing my passion a mission and something I want to pay forward. I still teach at William Paterson University, now teaching public speaking.About 16 years ago, my daughter considered pursuing a dancing career on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hated-cruises-changed-mind-royal-caribbean-wonder-of-the-seas-2024-9">cruise ships</a>. As a theater person, I would go into the city and buy trade papers, where you could find casting notices. I knew that Disney was casting for their cruise ship, so I was looking through a trade paper to get information for my daughter when I saw an advertisement that the Timeless Torches dance team was looking for 16 dancers over 50.My daughter didn't end up going to the Disney audition, but I decided to audition for the Timeless Torches.<h2 id="7005840d-d7f0-4c38-84b1-80c4eac0842f">I didn't want my hearing loss to be a factor in my audition</h2>When I was 46, I started to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-was-born-with-hearing-loss-and-im-a-singer-2022-10">lose my hearing</a>. Everybody kept saying to me you have the hearing of an 80-year-old, and when you're 46, that's not good. It was hard for me as a person who loves theater and dance.By the time I auditioned for the Timeless Torches, I had been wearing hearing aids for about 10 years. But I decided to give the audition a try despite my hearing aids not being great. I didn't want any sympathy from anyone. I just wanted to audition like everyone else.During <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taraji-p-henson-the-color-purple-audition-not-studio-choice-2024-1">the audition</a>, we had numbers pinned to our chest with safety pins. I wasn't sure I'd be able to know when they called my number, so I was looking around, trying to figure out another system to know when it was my turn. Unfortunately, I realized the numbers were not consecutive. When they finally called my number, a guy next to me said, "I think that's you," and also let me know I had my number upside down. I did the best that I could.I gave the coach my daughter's number to let me know if I made it. It was unbelievable finding out I <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-cheerleader-audition-process-after-giving-up-dance-2024-2">made it on the team</a>. I could have never imagined what it would turn out to be.Once I was cast, I told the team about my hearing loss, and I now have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hearing-loss-cochlear-implant-child-2024-4">cochlear implants</a>. I read lips, and I'm not always able to pick all the words to the music, but I can still feel the beat. Whenever I don't understand the instructions in rehearsal, I'll just turn to somebody and say, "What did she say again?" My teammates have been really helpful to me.The oldest dancer on our team is 87, and we also have dancers in their 40s. My daughter is 42, so I love that I am challenged by kids I could have birthed. They bring a whole new energy to our team, and it's fabulous. Who'd ever think I'd be doing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/history-music-sampling-hip-hop-2023-8">hip-hop</a>? But I'm hipping and hopping. On our team, we have every occupation, every gender, and every size. It's been the best opportunity ever to meet all these people.I'm thankful to my parents for allowing me to grow up taking dance lessons. It's finally paid off.

Kyiv has repeatedly asked the Biden administration to do so, but the White House has maintained the position that such action would be escalatory. Analysts say it's necessary for Ukraine to fight most effectively.Barros said that the restrictions have given Russia a sanctuary that it uses as a shield to stage attacks on Ukraine at scale. "Biden's last act as president could help shift the tides in favor of Ukraine by depriving Moscow of this shielded area," he said. "So I never know, but I mostly break things down into three or four circuits, which consist of cardiovascular work and strength training."Lizzo is dedicated to training and is motivated by her results, Calliet said."She loves working out a lot, and also when you start seeing results and you're feeling good — not just the results of the scale, it's, 'Oh, my back don't hurt, my knees feel good, I feel loose, I can move around.' That's the results. I'm going to love myself even more to make myself feel really good.' So the way she's doing it, the world is loving it," Calliet said.
