<ul><li><keyword id="51219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aia-engineering" source="Orion">AIA Engineering</keyword> met its sales volume guidance for FY23 and expects it to grow by 10% in FY24. </li><li>Its EBITDA margins for the fourth quarter expanded by 410 basis points as Covid-time challenges abated. </li><li>Company has undertaken brownfield capacity expansion and its negligible leverage and strong free cash flow are positive, say analysts. </li></ul>The stock of AIA Engineering has run up by over 22% in the past month on the back of improved margins and a good volume growth outlook. This rally has coincided with the overall positivity in the <keyword id="44747" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="small-cap" source="Orion">small cap</keyword> space (BSE Smallcap Index is up 8.5% in the same period) but has also beaten it handsomely. AIA Engineering claims it is the world’s second-largest producer of high-chrome wear, corrosion and abrasion-resistant castings — used in cement, mining and thermal power plants. The company met its sales volume guidance for FY23 and expects it to grow by 10% in FY24. However, that’s not what caused a rally in the stock alone — it’s the improved margin performance. The margin advantage Its EBITDA margins for the fourth quarter expanded by 410 basis points to 28.4%. EBITDA is earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation. “Management stated that freight-related challenges post-Covid have abated, and the company is now able to pass on freight cost to customers,” said a research report by BoB Caps. Centrum Broking too opines that an EBITDA margin of 22% is sustainable with good scope for further expansion. However, it also explains that the process of passing through costs of raw material and freight to customers is not an easy process. “Pass through of raw material and freight cost is a continuous process and it happens as and when prices change, but with a lag,” says Centrum. Nomura, though, is not so confident about AIA Engineering’s ability to sustain margins beyond the second half of the current financial year. On an expansion spree The company is also banking on a change in preference for technology that can help it gain traction. The mining industry has been converting from forged media to high-chrome mill internals – which will help the company gain business. It has also planned for capacity expansion to gain from the trend. “AIA Engineering plans to expand capacity from 440,000mt to 520,000mt by FY24, through brownfield capex of ₹200 crore. The company has a healthy balance sheet (net cash of ₹2,500 crore) with negligible leverage and strong free cash flow generation,” said Bob Caps. The management expects FY24 volume growth to come from a mix of new and existing customers. The company – which caters to mining, cement and utilities clients across Australia, North America, Latin America and CIS – does not anticipate any major macroeconomic challenges in the next 12 months. Yet, the business of bagging new clients is fraught with challenges. “The conversion of customers is an agonisingly long process,” the company said in an earnings concall. What’s beyond the rally? In spite of the run up that the capital goods sector has been witnessing in the last few weeks, and fairly decent growth prospects ahead — analysts are mixed about the company’s prospects ahead. The BSE capital goods index ran up by 60% in the last one year. “The capital goods sector has been one of the key outperformers of 2022 and is seen extending its up move after higher base formation in the first four months of 2023,” said ICICI Direct., In a report dated May 30, the brokerage said it expects AIA Engineering to maintain a positive bias and head towards ₹3,410 in the coming months. Bob Caps, which retained a buy recommendation on AIA Engineering stock, says that it remains positive on the company’s structural growth story, with a revised target price of ₹3,500. The stock closed at ₹3,324 on Thursday on the BSE. Nomura, however, believes that the company might have hit a peak in terms of profitability in FY23. The stock appears relatively fairly priced given its prospects, it says, adding that a rally in the last one year incorporates its positives. “AIA Engineering has rallied 43% over the past year and multiples have broadly converged to a mid-cycle level of around 26x. Thus, while risk/reward still has a positive bias, the investment case is less compelling than earlier following the latest rally in the share price,” said Nomura, downgrading it to neutral. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Text"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div>

The layoffs affected the engineering department the most, especially roles like product managers and software engineers, etc. The company said in a statement that upholding a high bar for performance and productivity is crucial to maintaining this level of growth. "Therefore, as part of our continuous performance management and planning process, we had to part ways with 41 employees in accordance with their employment contracts," a Practo spokesperson added. Practo, however, clarified layoffs and the business's financial performance have no connection. "Our revenue, margins, and profits are at an all-time high," said the company. "In the past year, we have hired over 500 talented individuals, and we plan to add another 500 'Practeons' to our team in the next 12 months, including backfill," it added. Practo has raised more than $228 million so far. In terms of sectors, the highest allocation is to companies focussed on infrastructure construction. This may be a bet on government's willingness to spend more of taxpayers' money to boost economic growth. The zero weightage given to telecom may reflect the battered prospects of the sector amidst intense competition, piled up debt, and the imminent pressure of having to bid for 5G spectrum when the auction opens up in the coming weeks. Some stocks like ICICI Bank and Axis Bank are expected to more than double their profits in the next couple but that is largely due to the low-base effect in the last financial, which was marred by rising bad loans and provisions. The return to normalcy may look better when compared to the performance last year. The three IT stocks -- HCL Tech, Mphasis, and Tech Mahindra-- are expected to give the highest return on equity, above 20% each, according to the estimates in the model portfolio of stocks. This model portfolio may give one a perspective on how to invest their surplus profitably. Media is fake!" he <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/818307689323368448">tweeted</a> on January 9.The incoming administration may ask US Congress (and taxpayers) to foot the wall's bill, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/who-will-pay-for-mexico-border-wall-us-2017-1">according to</a> Republican lawmakers. Trump, however, said that Mexico would eventually pay for the project and reimburse the US. He and House Republicans are developing plans to fund the wall using taxpayer money through a 2006 law that put up 700 miles of barriers along the southern US border.A substantial part of Trump's campaign focused on "the wall" and a deportation-centric, closed immigration policy. But now that he has won the election, it's still uncertain how anyone will actually build the 1,954-mile-long border wall.Business Insider consulted a few architects to get some perspective on this question. They say the project would be nearly impossible (or, at the very least, unrealistic and a drain on US resources). Here are their reasons.<h2>The cost will be huge.</h2>As CityLab <a href="http://www.citylab.com/work/2016/03/lets-say-trump-wins-would-anyone-design-his-border-wall/472065/">points out</a>, Trump is pledging to construct the largest infrastructure project since the US highway system and the Erie Canal. He has shared few logistic details about how it will be built, except that Mexico <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-mexico-reimburse-us-wall-2016-10">will eventually pay for it</a> (though, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said his country <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-wall-pena-nieto-mexico-trip-2016-9">refuses</a> to foot <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/02/11/trumps-dubious-claim-that-his-border-wall-would-cost-8-billion/">the estimated $25 billion</a> construction cost), <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/06/us/politics/trump-wall-mexico.html">after</a> the US starts the construction.This giant price tag makes the project immediately infeasible, Rosa Sheng, a senior architect at the San Francisco-based firm <a href="http://bcj.com/">Bohlin Cywinski Jackson,</a><span data-tracking="mcp_profile_sum" data-li-url="/biz/miniprofile/24465?pathWildcard=24465" data-li-getjs="https://static.licdn.com/scds/concat/common/js?h=40vfeoewuurexnhvi1o2qiknu&amp;fc=2" data-li-miniprofile-id="LI-387696"> tells Business Insider."The US [is] currently as a $19-plus trillion deficit. Rather than spending our country's resources on building a wall, we should be focusing our energy on building bridges - both literal and figurative," she says. The Great Wall of China, for example, resulted in <a href="http://www.history.com/topics/great-wall-of-china">400,000</a> deaths of the soldiers and convicts who built it. "At such a great cost, we have to ask ourselves, 'could we be putting our country's economic and material resources to better use?'" she says.<h2>The wall challenges the ethics of architecture.</h2>William J. Martin, a freelance architect, says Trump's wall refutes the philosophy of architecture in and of itself."Architects design walls, not as barriers, but as a way to organize space," he tells BI. "Architects include features such as doors and windows which allow people to move through, and light to illuminate the other side."Members of the <a href="http://www.aia.org/index.htm">American Institute of Architects</a> (AIA) and the <a href="http://www.asce.org/code-of-ethics/">American Society of Civil Engineers</a>, which include architects and engineers around the country, are both bound by <a href="http://aiad8.prod.acquia-sites.com/sites/default/files/2016-04/AIA-Ethics-Code-of-Ethics-2012_0.pdf">codes of ethics</a>, which might conflict with building a border-wall. The codes include statements like, "Members should uphold human rights in all their professional endeavors" and "exercise unprejudiced and unbiased judgment." With the new year, a number of AIA members have <a href="http://www.curbed.com/2017/1/11/14238178/aia-trump-architect-robert-ivy-mette-aamodt">left</a> the organization, in response to the <a href="http://www.curbed.com/2016/11/15/13640228/trump-architecture-aia-statement-organize">letter</a> by the its VP, Robert Ivy. "However, there are a number of points in the Code of Ethics that should encourage [members] to think of the ethical challenges of accepting a commission or project. And it is by no means certain that an architect would even be involved in designing such a wall, which is primarily an engineering project."Sheng believes that Trump isn't even serious about building a physical wall. To build a wall on top of that would be a redundant use of resources, Sheng says.Building Trump's wall may require about 339 million cubic feet of concrete, or three times what was used to build the Hoover Dam, <a href="http://www.ibtimes.com/donald-trump-border-wall-who-will-pay-it-what-will-it-look-how-much-will-it-cost-2443883">according to</a> the IB Times.There are also reasons why certain parts of the border that don't have fences: they are rocky, uneven, and arid, Mexican architects from Estudio 3.14 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mexican-designers-trumps-border-wall-cost-2016-11/#according-to-the-design-americans-would-enjoy-a-shopping-mall-thats-built-into-the-wall-too-6">told</a> BI. Added complications of the mountainous areas near the US-Mexico border mean that the wall would cost even more time and money to build in these parts. Estudio 3.14's designers estimate the construction would take 16 years, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mexican-designers-trumps-border-wall-cost-2016-11/#the-design-was-also-inspired-by-the-work-ofrenowned-mexican-architect-luis-barragn-who-is-famous-for-his-blunt-stucco-walls-and-use-of-bright-colors-2">made renderings</a> of what the wall, stretching from the Pacific Coast to the Gulf of Mexico, might look like. Many architects are thinking critically about how to design border control stations that are both secure and humane. "At such a great cost, we have to ask ourselves, 'could we be putting our country's economic and material resources to better use?'" she says.<h2>The wall challenges the ethics of architecture.</h2>William J. Martin, a freelance architect, says Trump's wall refutes the philosophy of architecture in and of itself."Architects design walls, not as barriers, but as a way to organize space," he tells BI. Trump's $25 billion wall would be impossible to build, according to architects

MUMBAI: The markets are on a roll, with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> and Nifty making fresh life highs, led by gains in banks, auto and energy counters. 
 
The new life high for Sensex is 26,356.24; and that for Nifty is 7,865.85. 
 
The Nifty extended its winning streak for fifth consecutive session and hit an all-time high as FIIs continued to pump in dollars in Indian markets on expectations of pick-up in economy 
 
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, is of the view that the market will continue to move upwards. 
 
“A lot of FIIs money is coming out of Russia into Indian markets through BRICS fund. Domestic investors are also entering the market and that is providing support,” said Bandyopadhyay. 
 
At 2:02 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 7,860.95, up 69.25 points or 0.89 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 7,865.85 and a low of 7,779.20 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex was at 26,340.82, up 237.59 points or 0.91 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 26,356.24 and a low of 26,075.28 in trade today. 
 
Sandeep Tandon of Quant Broking is of the view that market went through consolidation in the last three months. It is light at the moment and looks set for next leg of upmove. 
 
The CNX Midcap Index rallied 1.27 per cent and the CNX Smallcap Index surged 2.10 per cent. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the CNX Bank Nifty was up 1.49 per cent, the CNX Auto Index gained 1.02 per cent, the CNX Energy Index rose 1.42 per cent. 
 
The CNX FMCG Index was down 0.75 per cent and the CNX IT Index slipped 0.51 per cent. 
 BPCL (up 5.25 per cent), <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> (up 3.11 per cent), <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> (up 3.04 per cent), BHEL (up 2.91 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 2.87 per cent) were among the major Nifty gainers. 
 
ITC (1.92 per cent), Infosys (1.01 per cent), HCL Tech (0.80 per cent), HDFC (0.70 per cent) and TCS (0.68 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1090 gainers against 425 losers. 
 
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 625.18 crore and domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 135.75 crore on Thursday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Spacesuits are sometimes called the world's smallest spacecraft, but they are anything but small for the astronauts wearing them.
MIT Aeronautics researcher Dava Newman has been working for more than a decade on a revolutionary <keyword id="41531" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="space">space</keyword> suit that could change all that.
<a href="http://blog.ted.com/2013/12/05/a-recap-of-tedwomen-2013-session-1/">At last week's TEDWomen event in San Francisco</a>, Newman presented the new space suit, called the Biosuit. The tight-fitting design gives astronauts more mobility while preventing injuries (astronauts have undergone 25 shoulder surgeries due to injuries from current heavy space suits).
One of Newman's main motivations in building the Biosuit was the fact that women under 5'5" can't wear NASA's current model, the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMUs), because they are not made small enough. This is especially important to Newman herself, who is too short for the suits.
When she was designing the Biosuit, Newman wanted it to be able to fit astronauts of all sizes, so her team tests them on women, which partially accounts for the form-fitting design.
"We make them for females because I'm in charge," Newman <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20131206/meet-dava-newman-the-worlds-universes-leading-space-fashion-designer/">told AllThingsD</a>.
Another issue with the EMU suits currently in use is that they are designed for use in zero gravity environments and are therefore bulky, weighing about 300 pounds. Because space is an empty vacuum - there are very few molecules of gas out there - a space suit not only needs to provide oxygen and protect you from the elements and radiation, but must also apply adequate pressure to prevent human flesh from expanding.
Current suits solve this problem by filling the entire suit with pressurized gas, which essentially turns them into a giant balloon. This solves the issue, but makes them heavy, unwieldy, and tiring to move in, even without having to battle gravity. It also makes it really difficult to use your hands to manipulate small things - a problem when trying to fix your space station.
The Biosuit is a "second skin" comprised off tightly wrapped material that applies stable pressure against the skin to achieve the same effect. Because it's not as bulky, the Biosuit is far more comfortable to wear and natural to move in.
"You have to apply a third of an atmosphere to keep someone alive in the vacuum of space," Newman <a href="http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/blog/2013/12/10/mit-biosuit-system-dava-newman/">explained to Boston Magazine</a>. "With polymers or stretchy elastic, you can get about 20 percent there, but we have to get to 30 percent to make it work."
Without that 10 percent, the Biosuit would be unusable. Until a few months ago, it was. Then Newman and her team realized that they could use "active materials" like nickel-titanium alloys to achieve the rest of the pressure they needed. The crisscrossing lines that cover the suit are tension lines made of the active material. The lines "shrinkwrap" the polymers and elastic to the skin, maintaining even pressure throughout. The alloy lines are arranged so that they don't break when the astronaut bends his or her arms or knees.
Using the active material has enabled the team to successfully pressurize the suit to nearly double their 30% threshold for success.
One of the benefits of the active material design is its durability. Because it is divided into pressurized sections by the active material, an astronaut can quickly fix punctures or tears with a provided "space bandage." If a puncture occurs in one of the current space suits, there is no fixing it, all the pressurized air can escape, depressurizing the entire suit.
"With a gas-pressurized shell, it's game over with a puncture," Newman <a href="http://www.fastcoexist.com/3023128/futurist-forum/this-sleek-spiderman-spacesuit-could-take-astronauts-to-mars">told Fast CoExist</a>.
One of the main challenges that Newman has yet to solve is the helmet. Her team is currently developing a gas-pressurized helmet that is closer fitting than the globe-shaped helmets on the current EMUs. However, because only the helmet would be gas-pressurized (unlike current EMUs which are completely gas-pressurized), Newman needs to design a new airtight joint between the helmet and the rest of the BioSuit.
Newman suspects that the eventual solution may be a hybrid of the Biosuit and current EMU designs. The idea would be to have the torso and helmet of the suit be gas-pressurized (simplifying the airtight joint) while the arms and legs are outfitted with the Biosuit material for maximum mobility. That design may not be as elegant, Newman admits, but potentially more practical.
Newman's goal is to have the spacesuit ready for eventual <keyword id="47638" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mars">Mars</keyword> exploration missions. On Mars, using the current EMUs would be tricky as their bulkiness and limited mobility forces astronauts to expend considerable energy doing routine movements, let alone a full day of field work.

Reaching that deadline, however, may be more difficult than it sounds. Newman hasn't received NASA funding for the project since 2005.
"Without funding, we are sort of working on this one student at a time," Newman <a href="http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/blog/2013/12/10/mit-biosuit-system-dava-newman/">told Boston Magazine</a>, referring to the help she receives from MIT undergraduates. "We have a pretty extensive plan to get to a flight system for the BioSuit, and, if that were in place and funded, in two years of full-on work, we could be ready."
Without funding, its anyone's guess how long it will take to finish.
