As many as 20 new companies listed on BSE and NSE, raising as much as ₹15,000 crore as of August. An IPO (Initial Public Offer) is the first sale of shares by a privately owned company to institutional and retail investors. Though it’s a far cry from ₹58,346 crore raised in 2022 — a lot of large and small companies alike have filed their draft red herring prospectus (DRHPs) with market regulator SEBI — promising an exciting year ahead. As per an E&amp;Y report, around 13 companies filed their DRHPs in April to June 2023, adding to the pipeline. Most active sectors in recent IPOs include hospitality &amp; construction, automotive &amp; transportation, diversified industrial products, and real estate. Apart from Rishabh Instruments’ ₹490 crore public offer and Ratnaveer Precision Engineering’s ₹165 crore public offers in the coming weeks, the stage has also been set for large companies looking to be listed. Amongst the most anticipated IPOs are Tata Technologies wherein Tata Motors is selling stake. Sachin Bansal’s Navi Technologies is another fintech company that will join the likes of Policybazaar, and household brand FabIndia has also refiled its papers. In spite of a lot of investor concern around new-age companies, experts believe that India will see a lot of tech IPOs in the coming years. Mamaearth’s parent Honasa Consumer has also received a nod from SEBI for their IPO, even though it was delayed as of March this year. “By FY25, India is likely to have up to 40 listed/IPO ready new-age companies, which can grow to 90 by FY28. SaaS, B2C Product Companies, and FinTech are amongst the most promising categories to produce IPO-ready companies," Rohan Agarwal, partner at Redseer said in a recent report. These companies, Agarwal believes, have sizable revenues, sustainable growth, a strong EBITDA, and operate on defensible business models, making them strong candidates for IPO. Another Solapur based specialty chemicals company Balaji Specialty Chemicals also hopes to add to the many companies that have provided outsized returns to their investors in the last few years — as the sector is on an upcycle. IPOs galore – India’s primary market to remain buzzing in 2023

It is adopting smart farming methods through technology and innovation in the agriculture sector and this may prove to be a game changer in the days to come by substantially raising farmers income. How is this method beneficial? Smart farming involves the application of sensors and automated irrigation practices. It can help monitor agricultural land, temperature and soil moisture. This would enable farmers to monitor crops from anywhere. Moreover, smart farming can help integrate digital and physical infrastructures, which would benefit small farmers. Agri-based, tech-driven startups have been very innovative in assisting farmers and revolutionising farming techniques. In a unique move, the Indian government is implementing a <keyword id="12166469" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-Agriculture-Mission" source="Orion">Digital Agriculture Mission</keyword> (DAM), which includes India Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture (IDEA), Farmers' Database, Unified Farmers Service Interface (UFSI), funding to the states on the new technology (NeGPA), revamping <keyword id="3182679" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahalanobis-National-Crop-Forecast-Centre" source="Orion">Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre</keyword> (MNCFC), Soil Health, Fertility and profile mapping. According to a report published by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in 2019, there were more than 450 argi-based tech-driven startups in India as of 2019. This number has skyrocketed in the last two years as the sector witnessed a surge in investments and funding. Agri-based tech-driven startups have been very innovative in assisting farmers and revolutionising farming techniques. They have also addressed one of the most powerful headwinds (climate change) through climate-smart farming. Under the NeGPA programme funding is given to the governments in various Indian states for Digital Agriculture projects using emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Internet of Things (IOT), Block chain etc. Adoption of drone technologies is being done too. To promote smart farming, the government promotes startups in the agriculture sector and nurtures agri-entrepreneurs. The 'Per Drop More Crop' component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana (PMKSY-PDMC) aims to increase water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation technologies like drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. PMKSY is a scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The <keyword id="87560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Council-of-Agricultural-Research" source="Orion">Indian Council of Agricultural Research</keyword> (ICAR) promotes innovation, extension and education in agriculture. A total of 1,575 field crop varieties were released for different agricultural crops during 2014-21. During 2014-21, 91.43 crore agri-advisories were provided to farmers through mobiles. ICAR developed 187 mobile apps on different farm and farmer related services during 2014-21. The agriculture sector plays a vital role in enriching India's economy. Agriculture accounted for almost 17.8 per cent of India's Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2019- 20. According to the World Bank's collection of development indicators, employment rate in the Indian agriculture sector stood at 41.5 per cent in 2020. From a socio-economic standpoint, agriculture is a vital sector which requires focus and awareness at all levels. According to India Brand Equity Foundation, the rising population and changing diets have created a huge pressure on land in India. Farmers are struggling to keep up as crop yields level off, soil degradation rises, water shortage increases, biodiversity declines, and natural calamities become more frequent. Furthermore, agriculture accounts for almost 14 per cent of India's total greenhouse gas emissions. In the meantime, the NITI Aayog (erstwhile Planning Commission of India) conducted a study entitled "Efficacy of Minimum Support Prices on farmers", in 2016, which found, among other things, that MSP declared by the government has encouraged 78 per cent of the farmers covered under the study for adopting improved methods of farming such as high yielding varieties of seeds, organic manure, chemical fertilizer, pesticides and improved methods of harvesting etc. Additionally, oilseeds, pulses and copra of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) are procured from registered farmers under Price Support Scheme of the umbrella scheme of Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), as per its prescribed guidelines. The Indian national Budget for 2018-19 had announced the pre-determined principle to keep Minimum Support Price or MSP at levels of one-and-half times of the cost of production. Accordingly, government has increased the MSPs for all mandated Kharif (including wheat), Rabi and other commercial crops with a return of at least 50 per cent over all India weighted average cost of production from the agricultural year 2018-19. Moreover, India's National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) is the only source of enrolment for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), on which farmer applications from various designated sources including banks/financial institutions are entered. Specific cut-off dates have been prescribed for enrolment of farmers, debit of premium, remittance of farmers' premium to concerned insurance company and uploading of data of farmers on NCIP. Smart farming can prove to be a game changer in the coming days

New Delhi, Apr 27 () Agri major Bayer on Monday said it has tied up with Pune-based e-commerce firm AgroStar to deliver its products like seeds and pesticides to farmers in view of the nationwide lockdown. "Under the partnership, farmers can order Bayer's seeds and crop protection products for their entire crop lifecycle and receive agronomic advisory through AgroStar's digital agri-tech platform," the company said in a statement. Home delivery of agri-inputs can currently be availed by farmers in north, west and central India, with plans to extend the scope to other geographies in the future, it added. In the current COVID-19 lockdown situation, Bayer said that the partnership has enabled last mile delivery of seeds and crop protection products for multiple crops directly to farmer's doorsteps. With agri-input shops remaining partly shut, AgroStar is fulfilling farmers' orders through its 500+ strong network of last mile delivery partners, who are doing doorstep delivery of agri-inputs, while following hygiene and social distancing norms. New Delhi, Apr 16 () Noted agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan on Thursday suggested a five-pronged strategy for adoption by the Central and state governments to help farmers suffering economic hardships due to the lockdown imposed to check the spread of coronavirus.Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to exempt farming activities and the movement of agricultural produce from the lockdown that has been extended till May 3, the former Rajya Sabha member said peasants should be provided with suitable agro-advisories to maintain good field conditions and plant health, including the needed precautions against pests and disease. "This is important also for ensuring human health," he said.In a statement released through the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation headed by him, he stressed on the significance of cold storage or other storage facilities that can help farmers in keeping the produce fresh till markets open. "As in the case of milk by the NDDB (National Dairy Development Board), this should be a priority action to be facilitated by the National Horticulture Development Board," 94-year-old Swaminathan said.He said it is also necessary to ensure that small farmers have access to good quality seeds for the coming kharif season, and to technologies like three-dimensional cropping (air, soil and surface) so that the plant that is below the soil does not have to be dug out immediately.Swaminathan, dubbed Father of India's green revolution, said attention should be paid to women farmers as they play a significant role, giving the example of the milk revolution that he said came about through the participation of women. "Women farmers are also at the forefront of horticulture. Special attention needs to be given to both their technological (including low horse-power tractors) and economic (such as credit) empowerment during this crisis".The scientist suggested that based on the manner in which the commodity is sold, suitable equipment like oil extraction machinery for jasmine, or conversion of fruits into juice, are important for value addition. Swaminathan suggests 5-pronged strategy to help farmers during lockdown

Fearing an <keyword id="51549" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="El-Nino">El Nino</keyword> effect on the monsoon again this year, the <keyword id="2730532" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NaMo-government">NaMo government</keyword> has prepared a contingency plan for 580 districts to manage in case of deficient rains. 
	 
	"We are ready with the contingency plan for 580 districts," said Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State for Agriculture. According to weather forecasts, monsoon is expected to arrive on time this year. It should be noted that in 2014, the country had received 12% less rainfall, which adversely impacted the production of grains, cotton and oilseeds. 
	 
	In a bid to ensure minimum damage to the farmers, the Centre will also come up with a new crop insurance policy. Balyan said that the Centre will involve state governments as well in order to negate the impact of deficient rains, in case it happens. 
	 
	In a bid to reach out to the farmers, the state governments will use television channels for giving out of agro-advisories. The state governments have also been asked to strategize as per monsoon forecasts. 
	 
	Besides keeping fertilizers, micro nutrients and pesticides ready, the Centre has also asked them to keep adequate stocks of seeds ready. It should be noted that untimely rains in March and April damaged close to Rs 1000 crore crops and also resulted in farmers’ suicides.

Nino! Govt prepares contingency plans for 580 districts

Delayed by almost a week, the season’s first rains is expected to hit Kerala in the next five days, weather officials said. According to an ET report, <keyword id="6358301" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monsoon">monsoon</keyword> was expected to arrive on June 1. 
	 
	The annual monsoon season is crucial for India as half of its cropland is deficient in irrigation. It should be noted that the agricultural sector comprises 15% of India’s $2 trillion economy. 
	 "We hope conditions will become favourable for the monsoon onset over the Kerala coast on around June 5," said <keyword id="336971" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="B-P-Yadav">B P Yadav</keyword>, director of the India Meteorological Department ( <keyword id="6366970" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IMD">IMD</keyword>) in the report. 
	 It should be noted that the country is expected to experience <keyword id="51549" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="El-Nino">El Nino</keyword> effect on monsoon for second consecutive year. The report also suggested that the weather officials had forecasted that the monsoon would arrive on May 30. Last year, the rains arrived on June 6, thus adversely impacting the farm production for the year. 
	 
	Interestingly, the government has now put a contingency plan in place for nearly 580 districts to meet any exigencies that may arise due to delay in rains. 
	 
	"Contingency plans contain specific advisory to meet delay or deficiency in rains," said K.K. Singh, head of the agro-met division of the weather office in the report.
