Amid widespread anger and protest over Centre's <keyword id="13558307" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Agnipath-scheme" source="Orion">Agnipath scheme</keyword>, the <keyword id="6354416" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="indian-army" source="Orion">Indian Army</keyword> on Monday issued notification for the first round of recruitment through the scheme. As per the notification, the registration for the recruitment rallies will start from July. "The registrations will be opened from July onwards by the respective <keyword id="1497108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Army-Recruitment-Offices" source="Orion">Army Recruitment Offices</keyword> (ARO) for <keyword id="14193007" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="agniveer" source="Orion">Agniveer</keyword> General Duty, Agniveer Technical, Agniveer Technical (aviation/ammunition examiner), Agniveer clerk/store keeper technical, Agniveer tradesman (10th pass) and Agniveer Tradesman (8th pass) as per the ARO rally schedule", the <keyword id="15350" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="army" source="Orion">Army</keyword> notification reads. The notification released by the Indian Army broadly outlines terms and conditions of service, eligibility, discharge and other important information related to the scheme. "Agniveers enrolled under the scheme will not be eligible for any kind of Pension and Gratuity", said the notification issued on Monday. The service of the 'Agniveers' will commence from the date of enrolment. They would form a distinct rank in the Army, different from other existing ranks, it said further. The personnel enrolled under this scheme will be required to undergo periodical medical checkups along with physical/written/field tests as per orders, said the notification. The notification has come on a day when several groups called 'Bharat Bandh'. The national capital also witnessed traffic jams as the police have tightened security across the city and its bordering areas. Indian army issues first recruitment notice amid protest

Agniveer <keyword id="22254636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="akshay-gawate" source="keywords">Akshay Gawate</keyword>, native of Pimpalgaon Sarai in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, died in the line of duty in Siachen on October 21, 2023. Speaking to reporters here on Monday evening, his father Lakshman Gawate said that after Akshay Gawate's death, the family got "Rs 48 lakh as his insurance cover, Rs 50 lakh from the central government and Rs 10 lakh from the state government." He also demanded a government job for Akshay's sister. He was reply to a question by reporters on the compensation received after his son's death. The Agnipath scheme, announced on June 14, 2022, provides for the recruitment of youths between the age bracket of 17-and-half years and 21 for only four years, with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years. The government extended the upper age limit to 23 years later that year.

Military police responded to reported active shooter and gunshots at California Marine Corps base

Demanding rollback of the scheme and recruitment under normal process, the agitators also blocked Patna-Gaya road route. In Nawada, the protestors burnt tyres on Nawada railway station and on busy Prajatantra Chowk. Due to massive protests, the traffic on the Gaya-Keul rail section was also disrupted. The Howrah-Gaya express was also stopped at Warsaliganj railway station. Several trains on this route were also stopped at several stations. Incidents of stone pelting were also reported from Arrah. Earlier on Wednesday, a large number of youths demonstrated in Muzaffarpur and Buxar districts of the state and disrupted road and rail traffic. Jessica Quezada/US Marine CorpsWhile some children grow up with aspirations to become scientists, professional athletes or actors, Mohammad Nadir's goal was to become a United States Marine, stemming from an early childhood amid a strong military presence.As the sixth of ten siblings, Nadir grew up in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he constantly lived amongst uniformed personnel."My mom would tell me stories about the military when I was younger, my father was a cop with the Afghan police . . . and many people welcomed the Americans, even during times of strife," Nadir explained.Intrigued by the lifestyle, Nadir's curiosity for the military grew after he graduated high school and discovered several private companies hiring Afghan locals."They were hiring Afghan locals to work as interpreters for the International Security Assistance Force," said Nadir. "This was my chance to be around the military."Under the impression Nadir would be safe, his family wished him well as he left to the Sangin District of Helmand province, Afghanistan, in October 2011, where he spent the next three years working with multiple operational units and serving as a key influencer to the community."I told my family it was a nice job and would be safe, but they didn't know it was nothing like that. . . It was the worst place," said Nadir.Although translators play a crucial role for the U.S. military, many Afghan-born employees are branded a traitor by the Taliban and other groups for working with the U.S."We were the ears and eyes of ISAF," Nadir recalls. This Afghan man served 3 years as a translator for the military - now he's a US Marine

China is worried over India’s successful test of Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile and is planning to drag the issue to <keyword id="6355833" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword> Security Council. Responding to it, India said its strategic capabilities were not targeted against any particular country and while it abides by all applicable international obligations, it expects others to do the same.

India's strategic autonomy and growing engagement contributes to strategic stability," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said. 
 Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry said it hoped that India's test-firing of the nuclear-capable Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile or ICBM, that could cover all of China, complied with <keyword id="55859" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UN-Security-Council">UN Security Council</keyword> rules and safeguarded <keyword id="52011" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="South-Asia">South Asia</keyword>'s strategic balance. 
 
However, she also said that the two nations are "not rivals for competition but partners for cooperation", she took exception to media reports that the successful test of Agni-V was meant to target China 
 China's Foreign ministry spokesperson <keyword id="1497799" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hua-Chunying">Hua Chunying</keyword> in <keyword id="1333" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Beijing">Beijing</keyword> said, "We have noted reports on India's test fire of Agni-V ballistic missile. The UN Security Council has explicit regulations on whether India can develop ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. China always maintains that preserving the strategic balance and stability in South Asia is conducive to peace and prosperity of regional countries and beyond." 
 
Agni-V was successfully test-fired recently. It is the country's most lethal nuclear-capable inter-continental ballistic missile with a range of over 5,000 km that covers entire China which may also pave the way for user trial of the weapons system and its eventual induction into the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).

India gives befitting reply to China after it questioned Agni-V missile test

After a wait of two years, India is all set to test its <keyword id="59897" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Agni-V">Agni-V</keyword> intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in its final operational configuration from <keyword id="6588220" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wheeler-Island">Wheeler Island</keyword> off Odisha. 
 According to the sources, preparations were on in full swing to launch the <keyword id="174323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nuclear-capable">nuclear-capable</keyword> Agni-V from its canister on a launcher truck towards December-end or early January. 
 
"There were some minor technical snags in Agni-V, which required tweaking of its internal battery and electronic configurations after its last test in January 2015," a source tod TOI. 
 However, India wanted to exercise some strategic restraint while making a bid to join the 48-country Nuclear Suppliers Group, which China thwarted earlier this year. However, India somehow managed to join the 34-nation <keyword id="471445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Missile-Technology-Control-Regime">Missile Technology Control Regime</keyword> ( MTCR), as also ink a civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan. 
 
The missile is capable of striking even the northernmost parts of China, is in itself significant. "This will be the final test of the three-stage Agni-V, which will be tested for its full range, before the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) begins its user trials," the source told TOI. 
 The tri-Service SFC, established in 2003 to manage <keyword id="3956387" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indias-nuclear-arsenal">India's nuclear arsenal</keyword>, will conduct at least two tests before the missile is produced in adequate numbers for induction.

India to test Agni-V ICBM missile, capable of striking China

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>An anonymously-run Facebook page with little more than 14,500 fans sparked temporary panic at a major California Marine Corps base by promoting the idea that an active shooting was taking place on Thursday evening.
At around 8:15 p.m., the page "Senior Lance Corporal" informed its followers that an active shooter was in the Las Pulgas area of Camp Pendleton, a major installation in Oceanside, California.
"ALL MARINES HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO LOCK THEMSELVES IN THEIR ROOMS," the page wrote, while noting "This is NOT a joke" in a now deleted post.
The problem, which its many fans were not aware of, was that it was completely untrue. A Facebook page known <a href="http://taskandpurpose.com/sexist-facebook-movement-marine-corps-cant-stop/">to be a thorn in the side of the Marine Corps</a> had called in the digital equivalent of a bomb threat, with real-world consequences.

In a press release, base officials said <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword> enforcement personnel "promptly followed protocol for an alleged active shooter incident and responded."
The original Facebook post from Senior Lance Corporal spread fast, with it being shared more than 175 times. The page even wrote comments offering "updates" on the situation, writing "INTERNAL [QUICK REACTION FORCE] AND [MILITARY POLICE] ARE CONDITION ONE." (Condition One means they have weapons loaded with a round in the chamber).
"We investigated and there was no sign of an active shooter. No hardcore evidence," said Eric Moore, a dispatcher with the Camp Pendleton Police Department. Moore told Business Insider the department had received numerous phone calls from people who were worried, all sourced back to Facebook and Twitter.
He added: "They saw it on social media networks and then they started telling their friends. It's all rumor, it's all hearsay."

As the rumor spread on other networks and via word-of-mouth, the page then wrote that the shooter had been detained.

Of course, there was no shooter to begin with. Military police officers responded to a scene thinking there was a possible gunman, only to find the allegation was completely "unfounded," according to a statement from the base.
The incident highlights how a minor annoyance for the Marine Corps on social media has morphed into a potential danger. Brian Jones, the editor-in-chief of Task &amp; Purpose, <a href="http://taskandpurpose.com/sexist-facebook-movement-marine-corps-cant-stop/">wrote a long expose on pages</a> such as Senior Lance Corporal in August, which often serve as forums for sexist and racist jokes among Marines.
The Marine Corps refused to answer Jones' questions about the pages, only sending a prepared statement that said the pages' discriminatory comments go against good order and discipline, but law enforcement "is unable to take action against derogatory comments."
But as this hoax demonstrates, these pages are more than just harmless comments. It seems they have power far beyond the internet.
Business Insider asked multiple spokespersons for the Marine Corps whether it had any plans to investigate the page further. We haven't received any response.
