<keyword id="5569898" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="facebook-india-ceo-umang-bedi">Facebook India CEO Umang Bedi</keyword> has put in his papers after working at the social media giant for 15 months, ET reported. <keyword id="736869" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook-India">Facebook India</keyword> confirmed the development, “We confirm that <keyword id="941091" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Umang-Bedi">Umang Bedi</keyword> will be leaving his role at Facebook at the end of this year. He’s built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best,” a company spokesperson said. <keyword id="2799363" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sandeep-Bhushan">Sandeep Bhushan</keyword> has been appointed as the interim managing director. Bhushan, who is a former Samsung IT and mobile business director, handled the new revenue streams from FMCG advertisers for Facebook across the region. Prior to Samsung, Bhushan was vice president, digital for HT Media. Facebook had appointed the former Adobe South Asia region MD Umang Bedi in June last year to build and maintain strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. At Adobe, Bedi was responsible for growing their business in India and helping India grow to amongst the leading markets for Adobe. He succeeded <keyword id="1158117" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirthiga-Reddy">Kirthiga Reddy</keyword> at Facebook, who returned to the US to take on a new role at the company’s headquarters at Menlo Park. At the time of appointment Bedi had termed the new role as a promising opportunity, "I am thrilled to join Facebook and am looking forward to working with the talented teams in India, to help brands and agencies grow their business on our platform. For me it's a promising opportunity to participate in India's digital growth, and I can't think of a better place to be at.", he had said after being appointed. Facebook users in India have crossed 240-million mark becoming the largest audience country for the social media giant, according a recent media report stated. As of 13 July, Facebook reported a total “potential audience” of 241 million active users in India, compared with 240 million in the US. Active users in India are up 27% in the past six months alone (+50 million), compared to growth of 12% (+26 million) in the US over the same period. Despite these strong gains, social media penetration in India remains relatively low, with just 19% of the country’s total population using Facebook in June. That compares to 73% penetration in the US, and a global average of around 42%, the report said.

Piracy was the norm and almost everyone made the most of it. 
 
For the company, however, it was their greatest enemy and weakness. 
 
At one point, Adobe was losing about a billion dollars to piracy. This, despite them being the market leaders and having to deal with little or no competition. 
 
But, not any longer. 
 
Cut to 2015 where Adobe commands the 68th position in the Best Global Brand rankings carried out by Interbrand. 
 
The company’s Digital Media Annualized Recurring Revenue grew more than $2.35 billion exiting and their flagship offering- Creative Cloud now has over 4.5 million subscribers. 
 “If you notice, you’ll see we hardly spend any money on advertising or marketing. Our products are great. They do the work for us,” says <keyword id="941091" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Umang-Bedi">Umang Bedi</keyword>, Adobe’s Managing Director for South Asia. 
 
But how did the company get there? 
 
“It took some soul searching,” he laughingly adds. 
 
The journey however, wasn't that simple. 
 
The company reevaluated their licensing polices and worked tirelessly towards transforming its biggest challenge (piracy) into one of their strengths (affordability). 
 
“Four years ago, owning Adobe Photoshop would cost an individual Rs 65,000. Most people couldn’t afford it and thus took the shortcut- get a pirated copy. That wasn’t the only problem. There also the issue of customers lapping up the digital space. And, we realized we didn’t provide them that space,” admits Bedi, who took over in 2011. 
 
The understanding that Adobe was falling behind not only in curbing piracy but also on providing up to date technology hit the company hard. 
 
“We turned the house upside now. By the end of 2013, Adobe shut down its licensing process, first in India and then globally. We switched to cloud subscription. And, now you can get your hands on Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom together for Rs 499. That’s a steal deal,” he adds. 
 
Looking back, he thinks the switch was inevitable. It was just a matter of when. 
 
The consumer has adapted to the digital space at a rapid speed, he says. “Today, Digital marketing has become a boardroom conversation as opposed to four years ago when tech companies were casually discussing it,” claims Bedi. 
 
According to Bedi, if an individual wishes to buy a phone now, he will first go online and research about it and then ask his friends online. Only then will he buy a phone. 
 
“It’s impossible to ignore that kind of impact. Thus, our transformation also focused on Adobe boasting of a creative cloud, (every video/audio find its place here) a document management cloud (includes easily the most used product- the PDF) and a space dedicated to digital marketing, which sees over 32 trillion transactions every year,” he asserts. 
 
The result is thus- As of now, Adobe is the only company to offer consumers ‘end-to-end content.’ 
 
“Adobe helps you make it, mobilize it and monetize it. We tell you both the data and the content story,” says Bedi. 
 
Their effort hasn’t gotten unnoticed, especially by the Indian government itself. 
 
Elaborating on the topic, Bedi reveals, “The entire process of document submission for the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is done exclusively on Adobe. Even acquiring a passport or a driving license makes use of Adobe. We’re also working with the Gujarat and Adobe Acrobat is deployed in around 28,000 villages in India in order to make application processes easier for villagers” 
 Incidentally, Adobe’s CEO <keyword id="970926" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shantanu-Narayan">Shantanu Narayan</keyword> was also part of the <keyword id="1929810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword> delegation and Bedi hopes the company can be a strategic partner in helping the Indian government revolutionize India as a digitally empowered country. 
 
“On paper, the concept of Digital India has been brilliantly strategized and marketed. If the challenges of time-scale and scale rise and aptly managed, this could be a game-changer,” Bedi concludes.

	Facebook has appointed <keyword id="941091" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Umang-Bedi">Umang Bedi</keyword> as the Managing Director for its India business, and in his new role, he would be responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. 

	<keyword id="1158117" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kirthiga-Reddy">Kirthiga Reddy</keyword>, the present MD, will be moving back to the States to take on her new role in the Global Accounts team at the company’s Menlo Park, California headquarters. 
	 
	Umang brings to Facebook almost two decades of his leadership experience in a variety of fields, including sales, marketing and partnerships. In the past, he has successfully built teams and grown businesses for several multinational companies. 

	He was the MD of the South Asia region at Adobe before joining Facebook, responsible for growing their India business and helping India feature amongst the leading markets for Adobe in the APAC and global regions. 

	“India is known for its great talent pool and we are really pleased to have Umang Bedi, a proven business executive to lead our business in India. I also want to wish Kirthiga the very best in her new global role. Kirthiga has played a huge and key role in building our India business from scratch, and I know she will continue to deliver the same impact in the US.” said Dan Neary, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Facebook.
