Addressing an event organised by JRD Tata Memorial Trust here, Wilson also said opportunities are there for <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> and Air India to become major players in world aviation within the next decade. Wilson, who is the managing director and chief executive officer of Air India, said the airline will increase its market share to at least 30 per cent in domestic and international routes. Air India is implementing a long-term revival plan and over the next five years, it aims to grow its wide-body and narrow-body fleet as well as expand the global network, he added. "The short-term actions have been to replace carpets, curtains, seat cushions and covers. To fix defective seats and inflight entertainment systems as fast as supply chains will allow. And where parts are no longer available in the market, to work with the likes of Tata Technologies to design and manufacture parts ourselves. "We've recently completely revamped the domestic inflight menu, and will be doing likewise, as well as launching premium economy on certain long haul international flights next month," he said. According to Wilson, the airline has restored nearly 20 aircraft that had been grounded for years due to lack of parts and money. Leaving aside cabin interiors, this has required procuring over 30,000 parts that had been cannibalised over the years to keep other aircraft flying, he added. In addition to restoring long-grounded aircraft, he said the airline has finalised leases for 30 additional aircraft being delivered over the next 12 months, starting next week, with more in the final stages of negotiation. "Beyond these short-term additions, we are in deep discussion with Boeing, <keyword id="6356166" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airbus" source="Orion">Airbus</keyword> and engine manufacturers for a historic order of the latest-generation aircraft that will power Air India's medium and long-term growth. At the risk of gross understatement, the investment will be substantial," he said. Noting that Air India's transformation journey will be in phases, Wilson said over the next six months it will be taxiing, fixing the basics and readying itself for growth. "For the subsequent year we'll start the take off run, building for excellence and attracting those who may not have considered Air India before, and by April 2024 or thereabouts, we will leverage the work done in the earlier phases to climb rapidly, so that by 2027 we have scaled the heights of our aspiration," he added. Air India has expanded both domestically and internationally, the latter including more flights to Vancouver, Sydney and Melbourne. "We now operate non-stop to London from seven Indian cities," he said, and added that from Mumbai, the airline will be adding new non-stop service to San Francisco, New York and Newark starting in a few weeks. According to him, Air India has received more than 62,000 applications for cabin crew positions. Emphasising that the airline no longer has financial or any other constraints, he said "turning around Air India and restoring it to glory is a test match, not a T20. It will require patience, fortitude and partnerships. Though there will be the occasional six and four, it'll mostly be the steady accumulation of singles and doubles." The rapid development of new Indian airports and the government's regional air connectivity scheme UDAN to support developmental domestic routes will only strengthen the network effect that will power further growth, he stated. Air India to introduce premium economy class in certain long haul flights next month

AdGreen Energy (<keyword id="4621631" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="agel" source="Orion">AGEL</keyword>), the renewables arm of the Adani Group, on Friday announced that its fourth wind-solar hybrid power plant at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is fully operational and the asset has been capitalised. The combined operational generation capacity of this newly added hybrid power plant is 700 MW and has a power purchase agreement (PPA) at Rs 3.24/kwh for 25 years, according to a statement from the firm released on Friday. This new hybrid power plant consists of a combination of 600 MW solar and 510 MW wind plants. The company said its latest hybrid plant deploys advanced renewable technologies like bifacial solar PV modules and horizontal single-axis trackers (HSAT) systems to enable maximum electricity generation from solar energy. A bifacial panel can generate power from both sides, boosting overall electricity production. The plant is co-located and is designed to deliver capacity utilisation factor (CUF) of minimum 50 per cent, the highest CUF of any renewable project in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. The firm said the plant harnesses the potential of renewable energy by resolving intermittency of the generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the rising power demand. With this, AGEL's operating wind-solar hybrid portfolio has now reached 2,140 MW, continuing to be the largest in the world, according to the company statement. With the successful operationalisation of the 700 MW plant, the world's largest wind-solar hybrid power plant, AGEL now has the largest operating renewable portfolio in India with 8,024 MW, <keyword id="4343578" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="adani-green" source="Orion">Adani Green</keyword> said on Friday. The plant is housed under AGEL's 100 per cent subsidiary -- Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer Four Limited. "Earlier in May 2022, AGEL had operationalised India's first hybrid power plant of 390 MW," Adani Green said in the statement, adding that this was followed by the commissioning of the world's largest co-located hybrid power plant of 600 MW in September 2022 and the third hybrid power plant of 450 MW in December 2022. "All three of these hybrid energy generation assets are located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan." Adani Green Energy (AGEL) has one of the largest global renewable portfolios with the overall portfolio of 20.4 GW including operating, under-construction and awarded projects catering to investment-grade counterparties. The company develops, builds, owns, operates and maintains utility-scale grid-connected solar and wind farm projects. Adani Green says its operating renewable portfolio reaches 8,024 MW, largest in India

When the <keyword id="1700843" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="singapore-airlines-group" source="Orion">Singapore Airlines Group</keyword> (SIA) released its operating statistics for December 2022, it revealed that it carried almost 12 per cent more passengers compared with a month ago and four times more than a year ago. Its two carriers, SIA and Scoot, carried a total of 2.7 million passengers in December. For the entire year, it carried a total of 20.7 million passengers, a jump of 900 per cent from 2021. The airline cited the relaxation of travel restrictions in Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan for boosting the demand for air travel and supporting a recovery in those markets. Though impressive, the passenger numbers are still 76 per cent of December 2019's figure of 3.54 million passengers carried. SIA's passenger load factor (PLF) in December 2022 came in at 89.7 per cent during the month -- 3.8 percentage points more compared with a month ago and 43.2 per centage points more year-on-year. The airline noted that this is the highest monthly PLF in the SIA's history, full-service carrier, SIA, and low-cost airline, Scoot posted record monthly PLFs of 89.1 per cent and 91.6 per cent respectively. PLF for December 2019 was 87.6 per cent. However, it should be noted that PLF is a function of the number of planes an airline has in service. During this period where there's a global shortage of capacity, some <keyword id="44023" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airlines" source="Orion">airlines</keyword> under utilise their planes either to keep airfares high or because they do not have enough resources to maximize the use of their fleet. According to fleet data from ch-aviation.com, at the moment, SIA has 36 inactive aircraft between its two main airline brands. Among the aircraft sitting on the ground are 15 Boeing 777ERs, two Airbus A350s, two A380s, and two 787-8s. With increasing competition in the coming year and with China's reopening from COVID-19 lockdowns, airlines in Northeast Asia are expected to put more capacity in the air which would result in supply putting pressure on prices. SIA is expected to do the same to contend for market share. Already in December, Scoot resumed flights to Zhengzhou, China in December 2022, while SIA restarted fortnightly passenger services from Singapore to Beijing on 30 December 2022. While the China market is still slowly recovering, SIA has been expanding its capacity in India, an important market, since the middle of last year. SIA has already resumed flights to the following South Asian cities at frequencies matching or exceeding pre-C levels: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dubai, Hyderabad, Kathmandu, Kochi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. To underline the strategic importance of the Indian market to SIA, it made a commitment to continue to invest in the market late last year. On November 29, the airline announced that it will be converting its 49 per cent stake in Vistara into a 20 per cent stake in the new <keyword id="2573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="air-india" source="Orion">Air India</keyword> Group, with the additional USD250 million used to acquire another 5 per cent. SIA has also agreed to inject up to another USD615 million after the merger is completed, (expected by March 2024), should the new airline group require additional funds from its shareholders to fund its restructuring and expansion. The actual amount will depend on factors including the progress of the enlarged Air India's business plan, and its access to other funding options. The airline said in a statement, "Through this transaction, SIA will reinforce its partnership with Tata and immediately acquire a strategic stake in an entity that is four to five times larger in scale compared to Vistara. The merger would bolster SIA's presence in India, strengthen its multi-hub strategy, and allow it to continue participating directly in a large and fast-growing aviation market." When Tata Sons agreed to buy Air India, the acquisition was completed a year ago on January 27, Tata was expected to consolidate its airline assets which meant it was likely to merge Vistara with Air India. SIA could have stepped away from its investment in the Indian market and sold its 49 per cent stake in Vistara. However, it decided to take a minority stake in a larger airline, and here are some of the possible reasons. First of all, the new Air India Group will be a much bigger player in the Indian aviation market. Its four airlines will have a 26 per cent market share based on domestic seat capacity and 21 per cent of international seat capacity in the current quarter, based on OAG data. India as a market and a source of travelers is of strategic importance to both SIA as well as Singapore overall. SIA will in time be able to increase its connectivity to Indian destinations as well as serve Indian passengers on international routes using Changi Airport as a transit point. This could open up attractive destinations in other parts of Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North Asia, and the west coast of America to Indian passengers. With the massive Terminal 5 in Changi opening in the middle of the next decade, any additional passenger churn will be vital to ensure the airport expansion fulfills its promise. India is among the top three aviation markets in the world and poised to double passenger traffic over the next 10 years supported by rising income levels and ongoing investments in its aviation infrastructure. It is projected to exceed 300 million airline passengers by 2027. However, India also remains underserved with low international seats per capita, signifying significant growth potential. Another factor that SIA would have considered is that the CEO of the new Air India group is a trusted 25-year veteran of the company before he joined the Indian airline in the middle of last year. Campbell Wilson, a New Zealander, was previously chief executive of Scoot and rotated through various roles at SIA in countries like Japan, Canada, and Hong Kong, and was senior vice president of sales and marketing for SIA. As quoted by Fortune, he said in a letter to employees on the one-year anniversary of the completion of Tata's takeover of Air India, "Taken together, the progress over the last 12 months has been nothing short of stunning, even if so much of what we have been working on has been behind the scenes, building platforms and capabilities so that our future ambitions can take flight. There is of course much more that needs to be done, and everyone internally and externally - is hungry for us to do it." It seems the time duration between the announcement of an investment plan and beginning the actual work, to implement it, is reducing under the leadership of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Prime+Minister+Narendra+Modi+">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a> as 38% of the 970-odd investment plans announce earlier is already on execution mode. 
 
According to a CMIECII analysis of investment projects from May 2014, more than a third of investment plans worth Rs 10 lakh crore announced during 2014-15 had already started by July 2015. 
 
It is important to mention that 90% of these investment plans were announced after Modi came to power in May 2014, signalling that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=India+Inc">India Inc</a>'s elation at the election outcome is beginning to reflect in boardroom decisions. 
 As per an economic outlook put out by the Centre for Monitoring <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian Economy</keyword> (CMIE) last week, projects worth Rs 6.5 lakh crore, including those announced in the past and put on hold by promoters for a variety of reasons, have begun seeing ground level activity in this period. 
 
Of this, projects worth Rs 4.5 lakh crore have come under implementation mode in 2014-15, and investments worth Rs 2 lakh crore have started moving at the ground level in the first quarter of this fiscal. 
 
Indian conglomerates such as the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+group+">Tata group</a> and <keyword id="6367820" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Adani-Group">Adani group</keyword> are leading from the front, with each of them announcing 15 new investment projects since May 2014. However in terms of value, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Adani+group+">Adani group</a> is far ahead, with just five of its power and <keyword id="34553" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="renewable-energy">renewable energy</keyword> projects envisaging an investment of over Rs 1.22 lakh crore. 
 <keyword id="124937" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indigo-Airlines">Indigo Airlines</keyword>' announcement to acquire 250 A-320 planes from <keyword id="6356166" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airbus">Airbus</keyword> is the largest investment plan to come up under the <keyword id="6360789" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Modi-Government">Modi government</keyword>, followed by Adani Renewable Energy's solar park projects in Rajasthan worth Rs 60,000 crore and a Rs 40,000 crore LCD panel fabrication plant announced by Vedanta. 
 
Chandrajit Banerjee, director general at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Confederation+of+Indian+Industry+or+CII">Confederation of Indian Industry or CII</a>, said: "Our analysis clearly indicates that there has been a new momentum in both investment and economic activity in the last 15 months. We are confident that this will steadily increase as the invest ment climate is picking up." 
 
The CMIE said, citing the rise in investment plans and projects under implementation, "Fresh project announcements in India have also increased since the new government came into power... The implementation rate has also improved." 
 
That machinery firms recorded the first rise in quarterly sales in the past three years in the first three months of 2015-16 signals a revival in capital expenditure, it said.

<ul><li>India’s largest airline InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) has much to gain if its peer Go First fails to land safely.</li><li>Cooler crude, more passengers taking to the skies, and the grounding of Go First have set the airline’s growth on a higher altitude.</li><li>IndiGo also expects a 15% growth in its revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK), a key metric for airlines, in FY24.</li></ul>India’s largest airline InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) has a lot to cheer if its peer Go First fails to land safely – with domestic and international market share up for grabs. If the troubles of the budget airline which has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/go-first-suspends-sale-of-tickets-till-may-15-dgca-asks-airline-to-process-refunds-for-passengers/articleshow/99982706.cms">filed</a> for insolvency compound, competition will ease in the low-cost segment giving IndiGo more control over air fares. IndiGo’s shares have surged by over 7% since May 2 when Go First announced that it had filed a voluntary insolvency petition with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). Despite the recent surge, IndiGo is flying light – literally and figuratively – with its valuations being attractive, according to brokerages. On the back of robust fleet utilization rates and the Indian aviation sector being on an upswing, IndiGo expects its revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK), a key metric for airlines, to grow at 15% in FY24. Now, new tailwinds like the grounding of Go First and the softening of crude oil prices are expected to give it a further boost. “The bias is positive towards airline stocks, predominantly IndiGo, for the next 9-12 months,” said a report by Motilal Oswal, adding that the airline is well positioned to improve its realisations and margins too. If this capacity goes out of the system, industry-level load factor and pricing environment can improve substantially,” said a report by IIFL Securities. With a diverse and young fleet, the airline now boasts over 1,800 daily departures with more than 300 aircraft. Further, to cater to the growing demand, IndiGo is also looking to expand its fleet by 500 more aircraft, from Boeing and Airbus.
