Cannabis stocks tumble from multi-year highs as Reddit-fueled rally loses steam

Jammu, Jun 2 () The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday issued a lookout notice for a former chairman of J&amp;K State Cooperative Bank Limited in connection with his alleged involvement in Rs 223-crore land scam pertaining. The chairman of the Jhelum Cooperative House Building Society (JCHBS), Hilal Ahmed Mir, was arrested on May 14 in the alleged land scam. "The ACB issues lookout notice for Mohmmad Shafi Dar, ex-chairman J&amp;K State Cooperative Bank Limited. Any person giving information about his whereabouts will be suitably rewarded," an ACB spokesman said. "If any person is having any knowledge and information about the whereabouts of the accused, he or she may inform or communicate through email, WhatsApp or toll-free numbers to ACB," he said. The organisation said that any person giving the information shall be suitably rewarded and his or her identity will be kept secret. The official spokesperson said the ACB has been successful in unearthing the siphoned funds and an amount to tune of Rs 187 crore has been frozen. A preliminary inquiry was conducted by the ACB, Jammu, on allegations that Dar, in connivance with officials and a beneficiary of a non-existent cooperative house building society, had sanctioned an amount of Rs 223 crore fraudulently under the name of 'River Jhelum Cooperative House Colony at Shivpora, Srinagar', run by Hilal Ahmad Mir, a resident of Srinagar. The investigation revealed that Mir had moved an application to the secretary, Cooperatives, Administration Department of Cooperative Societies, in which he sought directions to the J&amp;K Cooperative Bank Limited for grant of financial assistance to the tune of Rs 300 crore for taking over possession of 300 kanals of land located in the outskirts of Srinagar for construction of a satellite township, he said. The spokesman said the application was endorsed to the registrar of Cooperative Societies, J&amp;K, for taking up the matter with the Jammu and Kashmir State Cooperative Bank. Accordingly, the cooperative bank in Srinagar sanctioned a loan to the tune of Rs 223 crores without adhering to any codal formalities like obtaining the details of the society such as its balance sheet, profit and loss account business, activities being done by it, income tax returns and details of construction of the board resolutions, the spokesman said. During inquiry, he said, it also surfaced that the River Jhelum Cooperative House Building Society has not even been registered with the Cooperative Societies, J&amp;K. "The accused (Mir), by acting in league with the chairman of the J&amp;K Cooperative Bank, Srinagar and others, had prepared a fake and fictitious registration certificate in the name of the society and managed the sanction of loan to the amount of Rs 223 crore," the spokesman said. He said the omission and commission on part of the chairman of the J&amp;K State Cooperative Bank and others, in conspiracy with Mir, constitute offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code. It also resulted in a loss of Rs 223 crore to the bank. Accordingly, a case was registered and investigation taken up, the officials said. Mir was arrested on May 14 to effect the recovery of documents required in the case which were purportedly in his possession and also to unearth the modus operandi, and the end-use of funds and quid pro quo, if any, obtained, the spokesman said. New Delhi: In a massive crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi has uncovered a scam involving fraudulent GST refunds within the Trade &amp; Taxes department of the Delhi Government and arrested a Goods and Service tax officer along with six associates. Seven people were arrested for allegedly running the racket of fake invoices and getting GST refunds from the department. The seven arrested persons include a <keyword id="20263022" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GST-officer" source="keywords">GST officer</keyword>, three advocates, two transporters, and a fake firm proprietor, informed ACB. According to ACB, They created 96 <keyword id="20867094" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fake-firms" source="keywords">fake firms</keyword>, which were cunningly used to siphon off taxpayer money by claiming fraudulent GST refunds. Shockingly, refunds worth rupees 35.51 crore were approved between 2021 and 2022. In the first year, only refunds worth rupees 7 lakh were approved but later the remaining were approved. The GSTO, identified as Babita Sharma, played a pivotal role in this conspiracy. After being transferred to Ward No. 22 in July 2021, Sharma, in a highly suspicious move, swiftly approved the migration of 53 firms to her ward. These firms, which were later found to be non-existent during a physical verification by GST officials, were mere paper entities, set up solely to claim bogus refunds. Within just 2-3 days of filing refund applications, these refunds were sanctioned without the mandatory verification of Input Tax Credit (ITC), a crucial process to identify fraudulent claims, informed ACB. The fake firms, which supposedly conducted business worth Rs718 crores, were found to be engaged in nothing more than a paper trail of deceit. Some firms even claimed to export medicines and medical items, but a closer inspection revealed that these transactions were built on forged purchase bills. It was found that the same group of offenders operated 23 out of these 96 fake firms. Using common email IDs and mobile numbers, they created fake invoices worth rupees 176.67 crores, pocketing Rs5.81 crores in <keyword id="22769118" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fraudulent-refunds" source="keywords">fraudulent refunds</keyword>. The investigation reveals that over 500 non-existent firms were implicated, and as many as 1,000 bank accounts linked to the scam. The role of other GST officials and proprietors is still under the scanner as the investigation is underway by ACB.

54 Crore GST Refund Scam exposed by Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch

"In this case, a government corporation was formed and it was exclusively formed for this purpose of skill development and the proposal was moved by some private individuals...The money trail is very clearly seen," Additional DG of CID Sanjay told ANI. Further, DIG Sanjay said, "You see the role of the ED also in this when they moved in and arrested a few people. So this is a very clear case of government money being transferred and the project itself never happened... How the money went into shell companies and all, is again part of the investigation. So further investigation will reveal the exact end-to-end tie-ups." <keyword id="6354350" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandrababu-naidu" source="Orion">Chandrababu Naidu</keyword> was sent to judicial custody on Sunday for 14 days, till September 23, by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada in connection with an alleged Skill Development Corporation scam. Earlier, TDP workers held a protest on Monday in Chittoor against the arrest and judicial custody of the TDP chief in the alleged skill development case. On Monday State Police also tried to detain several party leaders including TDP MLC Kancherla Srikanth in Chittoor district as a preventive action to maintain law and order in the state. Protests were also held in Tirupati and West Godavari districts against the arrest and judicial custody of Chandrababu <keyword id="6362898" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="naidu" source="Orion">Naidu</keyword>. The case in which Naidu is arrested pertains to the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore, as per the officials. The agency officials also claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss to the state government in excess of Rs 300 crore. As per the CID, the investigation has revealed serious irregularities such as before any expenditure by private entities, the then state government provided an advance of Rs 371 crores, representing the entire 10 per cent commitment by the government. Most of the money advanced by the government was diverted to shell companies through fake invoices, with no actual delivery or sale of the items mentioned in the invoices, CID officials said. In its remand report, the CID has said that according to the investigation so far, the total amount spent by private entities on six skill development clusters is sourced exclusively from funds advanced by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Centre, totalling Rs 371 crore.
