New Delhi, Feb 12 () ABB India on Wednesday said it has bagged two significant orders worth Rs 191 crore to supply traction equipment for Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, and industrial drives to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures. Both these components will be produced at ABB's Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru, in line with its commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative, the company said in a filing to BSE. The facility includes one of the largest factories for locomotive applications and one of the four global shop-floors for medium voltage drives located in Southern India. ABB will supply industrial drives worth Rs 68 crore to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd, an infrastructure company which recently announced its venture into the oil drilling segment. In addition to industrial drives, ABB India will also supply traction equipment worth Rs 123 crore to Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, which is the manufacturing unit of Indian Railways. The state-of-the-art traction converters will help improve rail operator's efficiency, thereby supporting sustainable transportation in India. In 2019, ABB India had won an order from the Indian Railways to supply traction converters worth Rs 270 crore, the company said. The shares of ABB India were trading at Rs 1,325.95 apiece on BSE, down 0.60 per cent from the previous close. SID ANSANS

ABB India bags orders worth Rs 191 cr

New Delhi, Dec 24 () Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday inaugurated a centralised new kitchen, supported by Swiss power major ABB India, to feed 21,000 children in government schools in the national capital.
"Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia inaugurated the Akshaya Patra Foundation's new centralised kitchen in Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area of New Delhi," ABB India said in a statement said.
According to the statement, the kitchen - sponsored by ABB India - has the capacity to cater to the nutrition needs of students through 25,000 midday meals across various government schools in the surrounding areas.
Initially, it will serve over 21,000 children of 24 government schools in the national capital and gradually extend its reach.
Mohan Cooperative kitchen will be the Akshaya Patra Foundation's 51st kitchen in the country.
From January 1, 2020, Akshaya Patra will begin operations in Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, Jahangir Puri and Samaypur Badli, feeding 64,179 children across 134 schools in the national capital through these three kitchens.
ABB India's partnership with Akshaya Patra is over a decade old and has been expanding in line with the mission of Akshaya Patra to feed 5 million children by 2025.
Over the years, the support by ABB India towards Akshaya Patra has increased many folds from the Mid-Day Meal Programme to supporting a centralised kitchen. <keyword id="12986909" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hitachi-energy-india-ltd" source="Orion">Hitachi Energy India Ltd</keyword> (HEIL) on Tuesday posted a 79.85% jump in net profit at ₹2.41 crore in the April-June quarter of 2023-24, on account of higher income. It had posted a net profit of ₹ 1.34 crore in the corresponding period of 2022-23, the company said in a regulatory filing. The total income also increased to ₹ 1,043 crore from ₹ 991.32 crore in the year-ago quarter. Expenses soared to ₹ 1,039.62 crore in the first quarter of FY24, as against ₹ 989.21 crore a year ago. In a separate statement, company's MD and CEO N Venu said: "We remain focused on balancing our operational complexity and efficiencies to preserve the growth momentum. "While persistent delays in chips and electronics led to lower revenue in the quarter, sustained operational excellence efforts provide visibility in the near-term." In the quarter ending June 30, 2023, the company received orders worth ₹ 1,147.5 crore, up 6 %year-on-year (y-o-y). Hitachi Energy India June quarter net profit jumps 80% on higher income

New Delhi, Jan 9 () Hinduja Group flagship firm Ashok Leyland and ABB Power Products and Systems India on Thursday announced a partnership for co-operation in public electric mobility space with plans to develop electric bus that can be charged within seconds.
 The partnership aims to expand eco-system for efficient and greener electric bus transportation systems in India, the companies said in a statement.
 The partners aim to develop a pilot electric bus based on ABB's innovative flash-charge technology, TOSA, which tops up the battery in just seconds while passengers get on and off the bus.
 "This avoids the need to take the vehicle out of service for recharging every few hours or having a replacement bus ready, thus minimising the size of the fleet while increasing passenger carrying capacity," the statement said.
 Commenting on the development, ABB Power Products and Systems India Managing Director N Venu said, "We are pushing the boundaries of e-mobility with our flash-charging technology TOSA for buses to contribute to a cleaner, greener, and sustainable future."
 The aim is to provide zero local emission mass public transportation bus system with high passenger capacity, he added.
 Ashok Leyland Chief Technology Officer N Saravanan said to stay competitive in domestic and global markets, the company is joining hands with ABB to use their world-renowned TOSA technology on e-buses to take forward the vision of expanding in the EV space.
 "This solution of the flash charge technology (TOSA), which enables charging the battery in seconds, is another example of us delivering on our brand promise of 'Aapki Jeet. Hamari Jeet'," he added. 
 ABB's TOSA is the world's fastest flash-charging connection technology, which at select passenger stops connects bus to charging infrastructure and in 15 seconds batteries are charged with a 600-kilowatt power boost.
 An additional few minutes charge at the final terminal enables a full recharge without interrupting the bus schedule, the statement said. RKL RVK

Government orders might continue saving capital goods companies

However, at the end of November 2021, less than half of the budgeted amount was spent. As a report from HDFC Securities pointed out, the difference between the budgeted amount and the actual spending this year has been the highest in the last 4 years. That could explain the recent rally in capital goods stocks. “The lag in the spending for capital goods and infrastructure in FY22 was because of COVID-19 and related spending. This time the spending for these sectors started in October 2021. Even historically, the spending is high in the third and fourth quarter only as giving out tenders and finally giving the order to specific companies takes a lot of time,” said Kranthi Bathini, Tech Mahindra, Intel, Wipro and other multinationals hiring engineers

India's indigenous robot is all set for a bug debut at the ongoing 'Make in India' week in Mumbai. 
 A <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> innovation, Brabo has been developed in-house by a team of six engineers whose average age is 24 years, led by Bhingurde. The development cost is Rs 10 crore. 

	"These are made in India, made for India. The idea is to drive automation in the market by offering affordable and cost-effective solution," says Anil Bhingurde, chief operating officer of TAL Manufacturing Solutions of Tata Motors. 
 The design of the robot was done in-house at TAL, styling was done at Tata Elxi, and manufacturing of some parts at Tata AutoComp, while <keyword id="154226" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Capital">Tata Capital</keyword> provided the finance. TAL Manufacturing doesn't intend to compete with global biggies such as Fanuc, ABB and Kuka's, but instead plans to target the micro, small and medium entreprises with an affordable robotic solution starting at Rs 3 lakh (for 2 kg) to Rs 6 lakh (for a 10 kg payload). There are over 5,000 products being manufactured by India's small enterprises -from traditional business to high-tech products, which may need such <keyword id="16719" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="robots">robots</keyword>. The Rs 9-lakh crore MSME industry is likely to double in the coming years, and to reach that kind of size and scale, automation will play a big role, an opportunity that TAL Manufacturing Solutions doesn't want to slip up on. 

	There's a market of approximately 1,000 big robots in India annually, according to International Federation of Robotics, and from next year, the demand will be 5,000 robots, globally. Thanks to the creation of a new entry point, the market is likely to grow 10 times in five years to 15,000, says Bhingurde.
 

	Although Nachi, Panasonic and Universal have started showcasing smaller robots in India, Brabo enjoys a significant 35-40% cost advantage due to its localised offering.

Sweden is showing innovations by Swedish companies in line with ‘Make in India’ initiative

In its bid to build a solar India, <keyword id="6356755" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Madras">IIT Madras</keyword> announced recently that it will be developing an efficient, cheap and clean way of power supply to villages using microgrids. For this, the institute has signed a MoU with power and automation technology company ABB India under government’s <keyword id="3873307" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="uchchatar-avishkar-yojana">Uchchatar Avishkar Yojana</keyword> scheme. 
 
They will be looking at developing a power management system to optimize the operation of multiple micro grids, with or without grid connection, to transmit electricity reliably to small villages. This system will also enable the integration of individual solar PV rooftops to the micro grid of a village. Such grid clusters are expected to have the capability of generating and using renewable energy locally from one kilowatt to a few hundred kilowatts. This inter-connection of micro grids with the existing distribution system will also help reduce outages and cut electricity costs. 
 
As of now, the government is looking at a generation capacity of 40 GW in the next five years through grid-connected solar photovoltaic rooftops and small scale solar PV plants. 
 
The project scope includes micro grids of 20 to 100 kW capacity equipped with battery storage. Detailed studies and simulation of the various system components along with related control and optimization logic, protection criteria, monitoring and communication will also be undertaken. 
 
"While India has set an ambitious target for solar energy generation, IIT Madras has been at the forefront in developing decentralised energy-efficient solar PV micro grid solutions tailored to meet India's urban, rural and off-grid power requirements," said Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director of IIT Madras. 
 Meanwhile, ABB India's managing director <keyword id="222145" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjeev-Sharma">Sanjeev Sharma</keyword> said - "In a country as huge and diverse as India, it is important to design models of integration with power management and load balancing for proven micro grids technology with the existing grid infrastructure." 
 
Interestingly, ABB’s Access to Electricity social initiative in India has already demonstrated significant impact in the country. 
 The company has brought <keyword id="70990" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Solar-power">solar power</keyword> to 1,200 households in the Rajasthan desert and to over 100 households in the world’s largest delta region of the Sunderbans. This project follows two ongoing CSR projects with IIT-M; one for the design, installation and commissioning of a micro grid able to supply 50 kW power to a rural village, the other one to help establish and research the Center of Battery Engineering at IIT-M. 
 
ABB recently announced the setting up of India’s first solar-powered micro grid to provide uninterrupted power supply to its factories in Vadodara. 
 
With the slow but steady work by the institute, industry and the government, it seems India is not too far away from achieving its solar dream.
