When the ESPN broadcast checked in with McDonald and her family shortly after her name was called, the Wildcats product was positioned in front of a floral backdrop with white neon writing in the center that read "Aari [AIR-e]."</p><p>"Just talking with my agents and my team, we thought that was a great idea," McDonald told Insider after her big moment. "We want people to know my name. We thought that was a really important incorporation of tonight."</p><p>It wasn't the first time McDonald felt the need to clarify how people should address her. During her fantastical NCAA tournament run, she concluded a media availability session by telling the members of the press, "my name is AIR-e, not ARE-e. Sorry. That's all I wanted to say."</p><p>After the draft, McDonald added that "my backdrop was definitely inspired by the NCAA run."</p><p>She isn't too worried if, even after her sensational March Madness performances and her newly-minted status as a top WNBA Draft pick, people still don't know her name. They'll figure it out soon enough. </p><p>"They'll know it on the court for sure," she said.</p>

And even though her Chicago Sky squad is already stacked with All-Stars like Allie Quigley, Courtney Vandersloot, and Diamond DeShields, Parker is still hungry to bring more top-notch talent to the Windy City before her Sky debut.</p><p>"Obviously, we've been keeping our eyes on what players are coming out, what names are going into the portal, and who would possibly be there during the Chicago pick," Parker told Insider during a recent interview. "This year's draft is going to be different because you don't know who's coming out and who's staying - all of that."</p><p>"I think it's going to be a different situation."</p><div type="image" title="candace parker.JPG" height="1540" width="2057" msid="82091661" hostid="261"></div><p>Due to the NCAA's decision to grant players an extra year of eligibility in light of the impact COVID-19 had on their collegiate careers, players at colleges and universities were required to submit themselves for WNBA Draft consideration for the first time in the league's history.</p><p>So when Insider spoke with Parker, the list of <a href="https://ca.nba.com/news/wnba-announces-players-who-have-opted-in-for-consideration-for-2021-wnba-draft-presented-by-state-farm/1fw4y9kum1mxs1jvl78q7w92rt">52 players who had opted into the draft</a> was not publicly available.</p><p>However, despite the complicated and unprecedented nature of this year's draft, the superstar expressed the utmost confidence in her new coach and general manager, James Wade.</p><p>"He can take input and things like that, but we all trust him to make the final decision," Parker said. "There's a trust that goes on, but there's also that form of communication that you're gonna add."</p><div type="image" title="james wade sky" height="1505" width="2007" msid="82091662" hostid="261"></div><h2>Parker has her thoughts on who Chicago should take with the eighth pick</h2><p>Considering Parker <a href="https://www.insider.com/candace-parker-interview-wubble-wnba-dpoy-nwsl-investment-giving-back-2020-12">doubles as a basketball analyst for TNT</a>, Wade may be wise to take the opinions of his six-time WNBA first-teamer into account.</p><p>Parker mentioned that she had <a href="https://www.insider.com/march-madness-most-anticipated-matchup-paige-bueckers-vs-caitlin-clark-2021-3">watched this year's NCAA women's tournament</a>. And though she said she has a strong enough relationship with Wade to freely communicate her ideas with him, she laughed at the notion of sending her head coach text messages with her recruiting analysis from college games.</p><div type="image" title="candace parker.JPG" height="1665" width="2220" msid="82091664" hostid="261"></div><p>Still, Parker hinted at who she had in mind as her newest Sky teammate, even if she didn't name any specific players.</p><p>"If she's there, but I don't think she's gonna be there [when Chicago makes its first pick]," she said. And though Davis "is a multidimensional scorer and good defender," according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/31253949/wnba-mock-draft-2021-version-50-three-point-guards-projected-top-eight-picks">ESPN's Mechelle Voepel</a>, "she shot just 26% from behind the arc, which is something she will need to improve." That doesn't exactly mesh with Parker's vision of a player who would help her new team's shooting efforts.</p><h2>But <keyword id="11105585" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="aari-mcdonald">Aari McDonald</keyword> certainly fits the bill</h2><p>The small but mighty superstar put on a clinic during March Madness to lead her No. 3 Arizona Wildcats on a surprise run to the national championship game. Insider's mock draft has McDonald off the board with the Dallas Wings' fifth overall pick, which is considerably higher than experts expected her to go just weeks ago.</p><p>Perhaps Parker jumped on the Aari McDonald hype train along with everyone else. After all, Parker spoke with Insider on April 2 - just hours before McDonald torched <a href="https://www.insider.com/geno-auriemma-paige-bueckers-uconn-best-player-first-2-weeks-2021-4">Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies</a> with a game-high 26 points in the Final Four and four days after the 5-foot-6 guard dropped 33 points on 5-of-6 three-point shooting against Indiana in the Elite Eight.</p><div type="image" title="kiana williams.JPG" height="1666" width="2223" msid="82091669" hostid="261"></div><p>There's no way to be sure who Parker had in mind, and surely there are plenty of other players - Stanford's Kiana Williams, Louisville's Dana Evans, Rutgers' Arella Guirantes, Alabama's Jasmine Walker, and UCLA's Michaela Onyenwere, to name a few - who match the WNBA star's description. </p><p>Regardless, Parker will almost certainly be watching as Wade makes his picks Thursday night. And after the outlet announced the recognition on March 31, the notoriously gruff Huskies head coach jokingly downplayed his star's groundbreaking achievement and quipped that the 19-year-old's "problems are just getting started" if she develops an ego.</p><p>"Well, somebody told her that she's the best player in America because they voted on it and gave her an award, and I'm happy for her," Auriemma said. "But until I tell her she's the best player in America and that she has nothing to learn and I don't have to coach her, then, you know what? I've got no problems, and she's got lots of problems."</p><p>"She's gonna rue the day she won this award," he added in jest.</p><p>But once Auriemma got serious, he had nothing but praise for his young superstar. He lauded Bueckers' "individual excellence" and "how dominant" she's been when UConn has needed her most. Plus, Auriemma noted, she's led the Huskies to their <a href="https://www.insider.com/lebron-james-complains-baylor-uconn-foul-no-call-elite-eight-2021-3">13th-consecutive Final Four</a> despite the team's youth and inexperience. </p><p>"When you take all those things into consideration, and how much she impacts the game - totally impacts it - there's always other players that you could say are deserving," Auriemma said. "But Paige certainly is, based on everything that she's done this year and based on handling all of the expectations that she's been carrying around since she started school at the end of July."</p><p>And though the 11-time national champion acknowledged that Bueckers "probably gets killed on social media for any award she wins," he pointed out that no one has handed her any of the accomplishments she's achieved on the court. I think Paige earned everybody's vote, and then she earned by the way she plays the right to be here in this Final Four."</p><p>Bueckers, Auriemma, and the top-seeded Huskies are headed to the Final Four, where they'll face Aari McDonald and the No. 3 Arizona Wildcats Friday at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN. With a win, UConn will advance to its first NCAA championship game since the Huskies won it all in 2016.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="112378" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="LeBron-James">LeBron James</keyword> wanted a <keyword id="6375402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="foul">foul</keyword> call in the final seconds of Baylor and UConn's <keyword id="11019014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="elite-eight">Elite Eight</keyword> matchup.</li><li>The NBA superstar took to Twitter to complain about the no-call, writing "That was a FOUL!!"</li><li>Head coach <keyword id="1148899" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Geno-Auriemma">Geno Auriemma</keyword> replied in jest that he doubts "LeBron has ever won a game on a bad call."</li></ul><p>LeBron James wanted a foul call in the final moments of UConn's heated, down-to-the-wire Elite Eight matchup against Baylor.</p><p>And he wasn't the only one complaining.</p><div type="image" title="baylor uconn foul" height="1752" width="2336" msid="81765048" hostid="261"></div><p>With just five seconds remaining and her team down by one, Baylor's DiJonai Carrington drove towards the basket and rose for a highly-contested jumper from the block. Huskies forwards Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Aaliyah Edwards challenged the shot. </p><h2>Plenty of spectators thought they saw the pair of UConn six-footers make illegal contact with Carrington on the play</h2><p>As Ryan Ruocco, who was on the call for ESPN, said on the broadcast, the officials could not "review whether or not that was foul." But that didn't deter James and others - including Baylor players and staff - from calling for a different outcome.</p><p>"Cmon man!!!" James tweeted in real-time. "That was a FOUL!!"</p><p>After the game, Carrington dismissed the idea that there was anything "controversial" about the call. She was fouled, plain and simple, she said.</p><p>"I personally don't see it as a controversial call," Carrington said. "I already saw it on the replay. One girl fouled me on my face, and one girl fouled me on the arm."</p><p>Lady Bears head coach Kim Mulkey was even more livid over the no-call. During her <a href="https://www.insider.com/final-4-baylor-kim-mulkey-ncaa-stop-covid-19-testing-2021-3">rather bizarre post-game media availability</a>, she explained that she's "got still shots and video from two angles" that suggest there should have been a foul on the play.</p><h2>Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma was dismissive of James' and others' complaints</h2><p>UConn's notoriously gruff head coach was not interested in entertaining dialog about whether a foul should have been called on the game's penultimate play.</p><p>"You wanna go back and check every single call throughout the entire game and then add them all up?" Auriemma told the media after his contest. "You don't! That's the nature of <keyword id="6356028" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sports">sports</keyword>. We probably fouled a number of times during the game, and we didn't get called for it. "And if they would've said it was a foul, I'd be on the other end going, 'You can't make that call a foul.' It is what it is. I'm not going to sit here and apologize for it."</p><p>Auriemma did, however, take the time to respond directly to James' Twitter complaint. The 11-time NCAA champion smiled as he sarcastically quipped, "I probably doubt that in his career that he's ever won a game and decided to give it back because he looked at it and went 'that was a foul.'"</p><p>Regardless of Monday night's foul drama, Auriemma and his top-seeded UConn squad are headed to the program's 13th consecutive Final Four. They'll face Aari McDonald and the No. 3 Arizona Wildcats on Friday for a chance to return to the NCAA championship game for the first time since the Huskies won it all back in 2016.</p>
