<ul><li>India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the use of Aadhaar — the 12-digit unique identification number — as an identity proof for Indian citizens under 15 and above the age of 65 while travelling to Nepal and Bhutan </li><li>Indian travellers will not be required to have a visa if they have a passport and valid photo identity proof — including Aadhaar. </li><li>For families visiting the two countries, only one adult member needs to carry the relevant travel documents, but, are required to have identity proofs.</li></ul>India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/home-ministry-tweaks-travel-norms-for-travel-to-nepal-bhutan-1980403">reportedly approved</a> Aadhaar — the 12-digit unique identification number — as a valid ID proof for Indian citizens below the age of 15, and senior citizens above 65. Earlier in 2017, the union ministry had<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/aadhaar-not-valid-for-travel-to-nepal-bhutan-says-home-ministry/story-r56Fe31HVCGTCIyTlZr9CP.html"> reportedly</a> said that Aadhaar card is not an acceptable travel document to visit Nepal or Bhutan. The valid travel documents have included PAN cards, ration cards, driving license or a Central Government Health Service (CGHS) card. According to the current norms, Indian travellers are not required to have a visa if they have a passport and a valid photo identity proof — issued by the government of India. If not, voter identity card issued by Election Commission of India also works. And for families visiting the two countries, only one adult member needs to carry the relevant travel documents. But, all the members are required to have identity proofs. Travelling to Bhutan, Indian nationals need to have either of the two — Indian passport that is valid for at least six months or voter identity card. According to <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/mha-tweaks-travel-norms-indians-over-65-under-15-can-use-aadhaar-to-visit-nepal-bhutan/articleshow/67609882.cms">media reports</a>, nearly 8,000 to 10,000 people travel to Bhutan on a daily basis. In fact, Bhutan shares borders with Indian states of Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal, and is home to about 60,000 Indian nationals employed in various industries, including construction and hydroelectric power industry. While Nepal has been home to over 600,000 Indians so far — including labourers, doctors and IT professionals — records the Ministry of External Affairs. However, the ministry official noted that the certificate of registration, issued to the Indians by the Embassy of India will not be valid for travel to Nepal. India okays Aadhaar as a valid travel document for Nepal and Bhutan — but only for certain age groups

<ul><li>India will soon introduce chip-based e-passport, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday while inaugurating an event. </li><li>The Indian government is reportedly working to ease the visa process for its citizens — people of Indian origin and overseas citizens of India. </li><li>In the last four years, India invested over ₹200,000 to help its citizens living abroad. </li></ul>After rounds of rumours flooding social media platforms about the government claims of introducing <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/pm-narendra-modi-at-pravasi-bharatiya-divas-said-government-working-to-issue-chip-based-e-passport-1981430">smart passport</a>, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) in his parliament residency on Tuesday, said that will soon replace its traditional paper passports with chip based e-passport. Modi was speaking at a convention in Gujarat focussed on non-resident Indians. He reportedly said that the embassies and consulates are connecting with the passport seva project worldwide to introduce a centralised passport system. Talking of prioritising ‘happiness and safety’ of its citizens, Modi said the government is also working to ease the visa issuing process for People of India-origin (PIO) and overseas citizens of India (OCI) that will save the time spent in the process. <ul><li>India’s External Affairs Ministry has proposed in its draft <keyword id="7297491" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="emigration-bill-2019">Emigration Bill 2019</keyword> new rules for mandatory registration. </li><li>The bill proposes Indian nationals planning overseas education or employment will have to register with the government before moving out. </li><li>Last year, the government made a similar announcement to register with the External Affairs Ministry before taking up a job overseas.</li></ul>Indian nationals planning to go abroad for studies or work may now need to register with the government before departing to other countries. The Indian government has <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/going-abroad-for-studies-you-mayve-to-register-with-govt/articleshow/67859644.cms?from=mdr">proposed</a> a mandatory registration process as part of the draft emigration bill aimed at strengthening its ‘Emigration management framework.’ The process, which is likely to be digital, is reportedly aimed at providing assistance to the citizens abroad in times of need. India currently has a mandatory registration requirement for Indian nationals seeking to work in 18 countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan. The draft bill also proposes to <a href="https://www.dailypioneer.com/2019/india/govt-proposes-new-emigration-bill-2019.html">set up</a> an ‘Emigration Management Authority (EMA)’ for overall welfare and protection of its emigrants. It will also set up two bureaus — Bureau of Emigration Policy and the Bureau of Administration for handling emigration related issues and daily operations. It will also include migrant resource centres, legal assistance and help desks to facilitate the Indian workforce and students in other countries. Last year, the Indian government made a similar announcement for Indian citizens to register with the External Affairs Ministry before taking up a <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/e-registration-must-for-jobs-in-18-countries/article25560355.ece">job overseas</a>. The rule was enforced on 1 January 2019 and is applicable for 18 countries — Thailand, UAE, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon. However, this also includes the citizens with “non-emigration Check Required (non-ECR)” status. Indians planning to study abroad may have to register with the government

According to data from hospitality chain Oyo, India witnessed an enormous increase of nearly 133% in bookings made by solo travellers in December 2018, as compared to same time in 2017. In fact, according to a survey by <keyword id="1805678" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Booking-com">booking.com</keyword>, a travel fare aggregator, over half of India’s population said that they are willing to go solo this year — that accounts to 18% more than global travellers. “The trend will continue to grow across demographics and will not be limited to a particular gender or age group.” said Ritu Mehrotra, Country Manager at Booking.com. Globally, the travel industry’s tours and activities market is going to touch $183 billion by 2020, said a survey by Klook.
