In order to link Aadhaar number to the bank account, one needs to provide a copy of their Aadhaar letter or their e-Aadhaar to the bank branch in which he/she holds the account. Once the account is seeded, it can be used by central government departments to transfer subsidies directly into this bank account. 
 
And just by dialling *99*99# on their mobile phones, residents can check status of the Aadhaar-Bank account linkage. To avail this facility, which is provided by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), you need to pay Rs 1.50 per enquiry. 
 
The Aadhaar identity platform is the largest biometric database in the world and serves users ranging from LPG consumers, MNREGA workers, PDS, remittance and scholarship beneficiaries, etc. – all using their Aadhaar number to avail benefits. 
 
Till December 9, 2014, nearly eight crore transactions have been carried out through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge for various welfare programs of the BJP government, which amounted to Rs 5,151.51crore. 
 
On Dec 12, 2014, issuance of Aadhaars crossed the Rs 72 crore-mark across the country.

A Step Toward Digital India: 10 Crore Aadhaars Linked To Bank Accounts

In a welcome move, the <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ministry-of-External-Affairs">ministry of external affairs</keyword> has announced two major changes to fast-track the process of getting passports for the first time. 
 
Now Indian citizens can get a fresh normal category passport under a week’s time. One would only need three documents, copies of Aadhaar card, electoral photo identity card (EPIC) and PAN card, besides an affidavit in the format of Annexure-I (declaration of citizenship, family details and no criminal record). 
 
As of now, the process took a month, because of the police verification that took up a lot of time. 
 
In the changed rules, police verification will be conducted after the passport is issued. This was reserved only for the Tatkal process, a costlier but effective process. Now there would be no extra charge for the service. 
 
However, for this process, online validation of the Aadhaar number at the time of processing would be required, along with an approval from the granting officer. 
 
"There are plenty of inbuilt safeguards in our system which can instantly spot fake identities and forgeries. Most importantly, our system is linked to the Aadhaar database which helps conduct real-time verification of the applicant while he/she is still at the passport seva kendra," Anil Kumar Sobti, director of the passport division in the ministry, told TOI. 
 
 
"We are trying to integrate EPIC and PAN cards as well. Additionally, the granting officer interviewing the applicant can use his discretion to extend or withhold the facility. Besides, the option of impounding or revoking the passport post issuance is always available and we have exercised it several times in 2015," Sobti stated. 
 
The second change will give applicants the liberty to choose a date from the next five available working days to schedule their appointment at their chosen Passport Seva Kendra under the relevant Regional Passport Office (RPO).

Yes, you read that right. A few days ago, a bug allowed ChatGPT users to see descriptions of conversations that other users were having with the system. The bug was later fixed and CEO Sam Altman apologized for it. This in essence was not a privacy breach, but was scary nevertheless. ChatGPT rival Bard also made shocking revelations that it was trained with user’s gmail data, though Google denied it. Mukesh Choudhary, founder and CEO of Cyberops, an information security organization, says that there are several ways AI platforms can be a threat to your privacy. First is user profiling, where by analyzing user behaviours, AI platforms can build a user profile that can then be used for targeted advertising or other purposes. Second is data sharing, where for a variety of purposes, including research or advertising, AI platforms may share user data with other businesses or organizations. The next is third-party access. Here, <keyword id="3582352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-systems" source="Orion">AI systems</keyword> might give access to user data to outside developers who could exploit it for their own reasons. And finally, there is the issue of data breach. AI platforms are not immune to data breaches, which might result in unauthorized individuals accessing user information. These breaches are possible as a result of flaws in the platform's security procedures, such as weak passwords or unencrypted user data. “ChatGPT goes and reads everything on the Internet. But it has got no consent from us. If there is a data leak or breach in security, that organization is liable to compensate the victim. However, if the victim has shared the personal data willingly as per the privacy policy of the body corporate and given consent for sharing such data, then that person does not have any right against the organization when the data is shared with the third party,” says Vaishali Bhagwat, Advocate, a practicing civil and cyber lawyer. ChatGPT does not fall under the purview of this law as they have a privacy policy which says that ‘OpenAI protects personal information using reasonable security measures and only shares it with third parties when necessary,’ as mentioned in their privacy policy, So, if one is sharing any data with ChatGPT, it can be used elsewhere. Personal information that is included in the input, file uploads, or feedback that you provide to the services are collected and may be shared with third party services,” says Choudhary. “Just remember that whatever you are putting over there is getting recorded. Any employee should never share any sensitive information about their company out there,” says Bhatia. So, if you have a specific role to accomplish and that involves sensitive data, do not copy-paste it on an AI platform like ChatGPT. Also, don't share sensitive information like mobile number, address, Aadhaar card number etc on any AI platform. Avoid any “optional” information, like a middle name or phone number‍. As newer technologies permeate our lives, the lines of privacy are getting increasingly blurred. It is better to be safe than sorry. The government has capped the price at private hospitals at ₹250 per shot for the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine recipients may not be able to pick and choose among the two vaccines available in India — Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield, which is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). A person can register up to four beneficiaries with a single mobile number. However, you would be required to carry identity proofs for all beneficiaries separately. Only one time registration is needed and after vaccination, a certificate will be issued to the beneficiary — on the portal to those who registered digitally — and physically to those who got registered on-site. The financial capital, home to the maximum Covid-19 cases in the country, on Sunday witnessed the launch of its first drive-through testing sites. SRL Diagnostics, which has launched three such facilities in the city, said a test sample will be collected within 10 minutes without a person needing to step out of his car and results conveyed the same or next day over e-mail. Tests done at the facilities will be free of cost for everybody as per a recent Supreme Court judgement, a company representative said. The facilities at Indiabulls Finance Centre in Lower Parel, Celestia Spaces in Sewri and Lodha Supremeus in Kanjurmarg will be operational between 9 am to 6 pm everyday and the patient can receive the report the same day if the test is conducted before noon, the company said. The drive-throughs or mobile testing centres were used massively by South Korea to successfully arrest the rate of infections. They have also been started in the national capital region and Kerala by different bodies. The announcement comes at a time when India is still working to increase the testing for the infection. In a statement, the company's regional chief operating officer Ravi Aggarwal said Covid-19 cases are rising exponentially in Mumbai and such facilities will be of help as it fast-tracks testing. Its director for lab operations Dr Prabal Deb said there is a huge shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves and hazmat suits and we need to find innovative ways to conduct tests efficiently. A person can make an appointment by calling the company, and present a doctor's prescription seeking a Covid-19 test and a copy of Aadhaar Card, the statement added.
