"Having an ID verification means that the individual's government-issued ID is verified by one of LinkedIn's verification partners," Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager at <keyword id="278010" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="linkedin-india" source="Orion">LinkedIn India</keyword>, said in a blogpost on Wednesday. In <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, HyperVerge, a third-party identity verification service which uses DigiLocker -- an online wallet for Indian government-issued IDs like the <keyword id="6356006" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="aadhaar-card" source="Orion">Aadhaar Card</keyword> -- handles ID verification. The ID verification is available for users with a valid Aadhaar number and an Indian phone number. "On LinkedIn, when you show that you're the real you, you'll have an even greater chance of finding the professional opportunities that matter to you and your community," Gupta said. He further mentioned that the platform does not have access to any sensitive data from the member's Aadhaar. "If you don't have an Aadhaar, you can still verify other information for use on LinkedIn using different methods. You can choose to verify through your work email, or workplace credentials," he added. In April, the company launched the ID verification in the US and plans to roll out this feature to other regions soon. Also, Aadhaar-enabled e-KYC rose by 16 per cent as 21.47 million Aadhaars were updated successfully in March 2023. While a majority of the authentications transaction numbers were carried out by using biometric fingerprint, it is followed by demographic and OTP authentications, official sources said. Adoption of e-KYC has also significantly reduced customer acquisition cost of entities like financial institutions, telecom service providers and others, they added. <ul><li>Union Minister <keyword id="6354886" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Shankar-Prasad">Ravi Shankar Prasad</keyword> told <keyword id="6355187" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> that there are no plans to link social media profiles to Aadhaar cards. </li><li>This comes after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (<keyword id="3602182" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="MeitY">MeitY</keyword>) was told by the Unique Identification Authority of India (<keyword id="6355252" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="uidai">UIDAI</keyword>) that they would need a new law linking social media accounts to Aadhaar. </li><li>Global internet firms also expressed concern that such a move violates user privacy. </li></ul>Union Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that there is currently no proposal to link social media profiles with Aadhaar cards in response to a question posed by the Lok Sabha, "There is no proposal with MeitY to link social media profiles of users with their Aadhaar number," Ravi Shankar Prasad responded to a question posed in Lok Sabha. He also outlined five measures that the government has already implemented to keep a check on the spread of misinformation. Excerpts from Shankar’s response: <ol><li>MeitY interacted with social media platforms particularly WhatsApp. Further, social media platforms have implemented a number of steps to address the issue of fake news propagated using their platform. </li><li>Information Technology Act, 2000, inter alia, has provisions to deal with obscenity and pornography. </li><li>Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a number of advisories which includes advisory on cyber-crime prevention and control dated 13.01.2018 and also an advisory on incidents of lynching by mobs in some States fueled by rumours of lifting/kidnapping of children dated 04.07.2018. </li><li>Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology (MeitY) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as well as the police are in regular touch with various social media platforms to address the issues of removal of unlawful content as well as spread of fake news, misinformation/disinformation on the internet. </li><li>MeitY through a programme, namely, Information Security Education &amp; Awareness (ISEA), has been highlighting the importance of following the ethics while using the Internet and advice not to share rumors or fake news. A dedicated website for information security awareness (https://www.infosecawareness.in) provides relevant awareness material. </li></ol>You need a law to link Aadhaar to social media profiles In September last year, the Tamil Nadu government told the Supreme Court that social media profiles should be linked to Aadhaar numbers to keep a check on fake news, pornographic and ‘anti-national’ content. Social media platforms, on the other hand, have been fighting against any such move. Their argument is that linking profiles to Aadhaar would violate user privacy. UIDAI told the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) that since social media platforms are not a part of the Aadhaar Act, a new law would have to be put in place in order to enforce any such accountability. An open letter to the government In October, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/policy/society/news/facebook-twitter-instagram-and-whatsapp-will-be-regulated-in-india-come-january-15/articleshow/71707834.cms">Supreme Court issued a deadline</a> for the central government to come out with new rules and regulations by 15 January 2020 and directed all pending cases pertaining to social media to be transferred to them. The IT intermediary draft rules were floated in December 2018. However, three internet giants — Mozilla, Github, and Cloudfare — wrote an open letter to Prasad calling for public consultation before the new rules are made official. According to the companies, the new rules would amplify the operational and legal burden on new organisations creating an entry barrier. They also pointed out that it is nearly impossible to “proactively” monitor online platforms. "We understand and respect the need to ensure that the internet is a safe space where large platforms take appropriate responsibility. However, the last version of these amendments, which were available in the public domain, suggest that the rules will promote automated censorship, tilt the playing field in favour of large players, substantially increase surveillance, and prompt a fragmentation of the internet in India that would harm users while failing to empower Indians," read the letter. The final draft of the bill is likely to be tabled during the March 2020 session. Social media accounts don’t need to be linked with the Aadhaar Card — Ravi Shankar Prasad tells the Lok Sabha

The last date to link PAN CARD with Aadhaar is 31st December 2019. However, to the masses, it is still unclear as to what the consquences of non-compliance would be. The central board of direct taxes (CBDT) in its notification dated 28th September 2019 extended the deadline for the 7th time to the end of the year. It is mandatory to link your <keyword id="8156425" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aadhaar-Card-with-PAN">Aadhaar card with PAN</keyword> if you have to process the Income Tax Return. Any bank transaction above Rs. 50,000 will need you to link your Aadhaar and PAN. Linking Aadhaar card with PAN card is a simple process similar to linking PAN card with Aadhaar card. Why must you link your Aadhaar card with PAN? The Income Tax department had earlier announced that all the PAN cards that have not been linked to Aadhaar card will be deactivated after 30 September 2019. Linking Aadhaar with Pan has been mandated for all having a PAN card. If multiple PAN cards are issued in the same name, this problem can be tackled by linking Aadhaar with PAN. If your Aadhaar is not linked with PAN, your IT returns will never be processed by the Income Tax Department. When you link your Aadhaar card with PAN, you will get a summary of all the taxes levied on you for your future reference. Steps to link Aadhaar with Pan by sending SMS For linking your Aadhaar with PAN, follow the simple steps given here. Take your mobile phone that has the SIM with the registered mobile number Type in the message UIDPAN&lt;12 Digit Aadhaar&gt; &lt;10 Digit PAN&gt; Send this message to 567678 or 56161 This process will see to that your Aadhaar is linked with PAN. Read this if you cannot link your Aadhaar card with PAN To link your Aadhaar and PAN, it is necessary that the name on your Aadhaar card and PAN card must match with each other. If there is a mismatch of the spelling, you will not be able to link your Aadhaar with PAN. In case of spelling mismatch, you will have to PAN cards have to be mandatorily linked with Aadhaar before the deadline ends otherwise they will be deactivated by the Income Tax Department. The name of the applicant should be the same on both PAN card and the Aadhaar card. In case there is some spelling mismatch, your will be unable to link Aadhaar with PAN. You will have to get your name corrected and after correction, you can easily link your PAN with Aadhaar. Here are the steps to make corrections in your PAN card. You will get your updated Aadhaar delivered at your address. When you receive your PAN, you can link your Aadhaar with your PAN.

In a notification issued in May this year, the <keyword id="121964" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Central-Board-of-Direct-Taxes">Central Board of Direct Taxes</keyword> (<keyword id="128665" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBDT">CBDT</keyword>) had clarified that the following categories of individuals would be exempt from the purview of Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, which requires linking both numbers: (i) Those categorised as Non-resident Indians as per the Income Tax Laws (ii) Not a citizen of India (iii) Is of age 80 years or more at any time during the tax year (iv) Residents of the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir However, people falling in the above mentioned categories are exempted from the rule only if they do not possess Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID. As per the newly introduced section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, every person who has a PAN as on July 1, 2017 and is eligible to obtain Aadhaar Number on the same date shall intimate the same to the tax authorities, failing which their PAN will become invalid from a date that the department would later notify.

The income tax department has said that permanent account numbers (PANs) that are not linked to Aadhaar by July 1 will not becoe invalid until further notice. "There is no need for any panic. PAN will not become invalid after June 30," Sushil Chandra, chairman of <keyword id="121964" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Central-Board-of-Direct-Taxes">Central Board of Direct Taxes</keyword> (<keyword id="128665" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBDT">CBDT</keyword>) told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/wealth/personal-finance-news/no-e-itr-filing-without-aadhaar-from-july-1-pan-to-be-valid/articleshow/59374074.cms">ET</a>.He added that the date after which PANs not linked to Aadhaar will be declared invalid will be notified by the board later.

PAN without Aadhaar not going to be invalid as of now

In case you are eligible to obtain an <keyword id="144117" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="AADHAAR">Aadhaar</keyword> number, you would need to quote your Aadhaar number when you apply for a permanent account number (PAN) and in your <keyword id="104359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="income-tax-return">income tax return</keyword> from July onwards. As per the government, Aadhaar-enabled biometric identification will ensure that nobody can obtain multiple PANs; it would also help the government in keeping an eye on tax evaders. Even if your income is below the tax limit and you are not required to file returns, you would need to link your PAN and Aadhaar number. In case that’s not done, your PAN will be liable to become invalid from a date that the government would soon announce, as per section 139AA of the Act. However, the recent order from <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> is a relief for people who possess a PAN but do not have an Aadhaar and have not even applied for one. In order to ease the process of linking PAN and Aadhaar, the IT department has announced the process on its e-filing portal. You can visit the income tax e-filing portal at https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ and enter your user id and password so that you can access your profile. If you don’t have a profile there, you can register on the portal by entering basic registration details such as PAN, name and date of birth. After logging in, go to the "Profile Settings" tab and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ in the drop down menu. This would open a new form where you’d need to enter your name, date of birth, gender as per PAN records, your Aadhaar number and your name as per Aadhaar records. After submitting these details and entering the text in the captcha code, a success message would be displayed confirming the linking of Aadhaar with PAN. You would also receive a confirmation email on your registered ID.
