New Delhi, <keyword id="13247465" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zydus-Lifesciences" source="Orion">Zydus Lifesciences</keyword> on Tuesday said it has acquired UK-based LiqMeds Group for GBP 68 million (around Rs 689 crore). The Ahmedabad-based group, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Zydus Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd, will also pay yearly earn-outs until 2026 depending on the achievement of certain agreed milestones towards the acquisition. LiqMeds Group of companies specialises in the development, manufacturing and supply of oral liquid products for global markets. The group's subsidiary LM Manufacturing Ltd has an oral liquids manufacturing site at Weedon, Northampton, UK, which supplies products to the US and UK markets. "Zydus will pay an upfront consideration of GBP 68 million and yearly earn-outs until 2026 depending on the achievement of certain agreed milestones towards the acquisition of the LiqMeds Group of companies," the company said in a regulatory filing. The transaction will be EPS accretive for Zydus from the first year of acquisition, it added. "We believe that liquid orals is a large, growing market and serves unmet needs with significant new market expansion opportunities," Zydus Lifesciences Managing Director Sharvil Patel said. In line with the patient-centric approach, the company believes that oral liquid formulations would help geriatric and paediatric patients, bringing in greater ease of convenience and therapy compliance, he added. Shares of Zydus were trading at 0.89 per cent lower at Rs 574.70 apiece on the BSE.

Zydus Lifesciences acquires UK-based LiqMeds Group for GBP 68 million

New Delhi, <keyword id="13247465" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zydus-Lifesciences" source="Orion">Zydus Lifesciences</keyword> Ltd on Friday reported over two-fold rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,086.9 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2023 driven by strong sales growth from US formulations. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 518.3 crore for the same quarter last fiscal, Zydus Lifesciences said in a regulatory filing. Revenue from operations during the quarter under review stood at Rs 5,139.6 crore as against Rs 3,964.4 crore in the year-ago period, up 29.6 per cent. India geography clocked sales of Rs 1,920.6 crore in the first quarter as compared to Rs 1,816.7 crore in the corresponding period a year ago. Sales from US formulations were at Rs 2,454.1 crore as compared to Rs 1,559.2 crore in the same quarter a year ago, up 57.4 per cent, the company said. Active pharmaceutical ingredients clocked sales of Rs 138.9 crore in the first quarter as against Rs 122.4 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, it added. During the quarter, the company witnessed a broad-based operational growth in its key businesses and a favourable product mix enhanced profitability, Zydus Lifesciences Managing Director Sharvil Patel said. "Strong execution and volume offtake drove revenue ramp-up in the US, while the India branded formulations business, adjusting for NLEM (national list of essential medicines) impact delivered solid 12 per cent growth," he added. On the outlook, he said,"We remain reassured on achieving profitable growth aspirations for the fiscal year and thereby enhance stakeholder value."

The drug firm had reported a net profit of Rs 297 crore in the January-March quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 5,534 crore in the period under review from Rs 5,011 crore in the year-ago period, Zydus Lifesciences said in a statement. For the year ended March 31, 2024, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,859 crore as compared with Rs 1,960 crore in FY23. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 19,547 crore from Rs 17,237 crore in the 2022-23 fiscal. "Our relentless focus on patient centricity, operational efficiency, strategic investments, and execution of our diversified product portfolio continues to pay off, resulting in a significant improvement in profitability as well," Zydus Lifesciences MD Sharvil Patel said. The company said its board has approved a final dividend of Rs 3 per equity share of Re 1 each, subject to approval of the shareholders. Shares of the company ended 4.28 per cent up at Rs 1,051.90 apiece on the BSE. Zydus Q4 net profit surges 4-fold to ₹1,182 cr; revenue at ₹5,534 cr

New Delhi, April 1 () Zydus Group firm Zydus Wellness on Wednesday said it has forayed into hand sanitizer category with the launch of its product under 'Nycil' brand in the country to meet the rising demand due to COVID-19 outbreak. The company had acquired the Nycil brand as part of its acquisition of Heinz India. The company decided to roll out this product in a record time of 12 days, as a response to the current pandemic. Nycil sanitizer consists of neem and aloevera extracts that helps kill 99.9 per cent germs, Zydus Wellness said. "We had acquired the Nycil brand as part of the acquisition of Heinz India. When we worked for extension of Nycil brand, one of the categories that came up was hand sanitizers. We had decided to launch this in 2021," Zydus Wellness CEO Tarun Arora told . However, given the extraordinary times we are living in, the company decided to prepone the launch plans. As there is a need in the country for sanitizers, it was decided to launch it now, he added. "We are in a process of rolling it out across the country. This is the first ever brand extension of Nycil. We have launched in north, and as production ramps up we are in the process of scaling it to all parts of the country," Arora said. The company plans to roll out more than 2 million bottles on a priority basis in next 30 days to be made available across India for medical help providers and general consumption, he added. When asked if the company is also looking at other brand extensions for Nycil, Arora replied in affirmative and said Zydus Wellnes is looking at valuating the timing and preparations for it. On being asked if the company is also facing problems due to the nationwide lockdown, he said, "Right now we are also facing supply chain issues because of the lockdown, but government is helping the industry to smoothen this process. It is a step in the right direction. Local governments are also helping the industry in this." New Delhi, Jul 15 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Wednesday said it has received final nod from the US health regulator to market generic Betamethasone Dipropionate ointment used for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions. The company has received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Betamethasone Dipropionate ointment USP 0.05 per cent, Zydus Cadila said in a statement. The ointment will be manufactured at the group's topical manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad, in Gujarat, it added. The product is used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as, eczema, dermatitis, allergies and rashes, Zydus Cadila said. The group now has 293 approvals and has so far filed over 390 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) since the commencement of its filing process, it added. The final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) is to market Fluocinonide cream USP, 0.1 per cent, Zydus Cadila said in a statement. The drug will be manufactured at the group's topical manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad, it added. It is used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, allergies and rash, Zydus Cadila said. The company has received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Lamotrigine extended-release tablets USP in the strengths of 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg, 250 mg, and 300 mg, Zydus Cadila said in a statement. The product will be manufactured at the group's manufacturing facility at special economic zone (SEZ), Ahmedabad, it added. New Delhi, Mar 9 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said it has inked a licensing agreement with Nasdaq listed XOMA Corporation to develop an immuno-oncology (IO) drug candidate.As part of the agreement, Zydus will advance the new IO candidate through formal clinical trials, the company said in a statement.Zydus has been granted exclusive rights to develop and commercialise the therapy in India, Brazil, Mexico and other emerging markets, and XOMA has the potential to receive single-to-double digit royalties on commercial sales in those territories, it added.Besides, XOMA retains rights in all other territories, Zydus Cadila said.Through this collaboration, Zydus will develop the new IO drug candidate through human proof-of-concept and each company has the potential to receive pre-defined shares of future proceeds that may arise from licensing and commercialisation activities, according to the statement."IL-2 will be the backbone of IO-based therapies for cancer treatment in the future. In this win-win agreement, we see a great strategic fit between our IL-2 and XOMA's anti-IL-2 monoclonal antibody as together they have the potential to provide a safe and efficacious medicine to address the unmet needs of patients living with cancer," Zydus group Managing Director Sharvil Patel said.XOMA Chief Executive Officer Jim Neal said IL-2 has long been recognised as an effective anti-tumor agent, but its utility has been limited by its toxicity."XOMA has developed unique, fully human antibodies that promote IL-2 action specifically to the cytotoxic effector immune cell populations relevant for anti-tumor activity while simultaneously limiting the unwanted stimulation of immunosuppressive T cells, thereby minimising its undesired side effects," he added.This IL-2 and monoclonal antibody combination has the potential to turn the immune system against the cancer cells, and Zydus is an ideal partner to advance this combination through clinical development, Neal said. Zydus Cadila inks licensing pact with XOMA Corp to develop cancer treatment molecule

New Delhi, Jul 6 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said it has received approval from Mexico's regulatory authority Cofepris to test one of its lead research candidate Desidustat in the management of COVID-19. "Clinical and regulatory development of Desidustat in COVID-19 is being executed in Mexico by Avant Santé Research Center S.A. de C.V., a leading contract research organisation headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico," Cadila Healthcare said in a regulatory filing. The company said it will conduct a study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Desidustat tablets for the management of COVID-19 patients. "As a part of the study, 100 mg tablets of Desidustat will be administered for a period of 14 days along with recommended standard care during the trial," the company added. Zydus Cadila Chairman Pankaj R Patel said, "At Zydus, we have been stepping up our efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic through therapeutic drugs, diagnostics and vaccines. With Desidustat we will study a novel approach for management of COVID-19". Zydus had initiated two phase-III trials of Desidustat. Last week, Zydus had received approval from Indian authorities to start human trials for its COVID-19 vaccine contender - the second Indian pharmaceutical firm to get such nod amid a surge in novel coronavirus infections worldwide. Zydus Cadila gets approval from Mexican authority to test COVID-19 drug

<keyword id="3465699" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanofi-and-Boehringer-Ingelheim">Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim</keyword> (BI), drug giants from Europe, have sought for local regulatory clearances from the <keyword id="97393" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Competition-Commission-of-India">Competition Commission of India</keyword> (<keyword id="47183" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CCI">CCI</keyword>), so that it can complete the global asset swap deal worth $25 billion, which was recently announced. 
 Once completed, the $41 billion France-based <keyword id="45958" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanofi">Sanofi</keyword> will be taking over BI's worldwide consumer healthcare business, excluding China. In return, Sanofi will transfer its global animal healthcare business Merial to the pharmaceutical group based in Ingelheim, Germany. 
 
The companies filed their applications to CCI late last week, stating that their mutual transfers, of both the consumer healthcare business and the animal health business, will not considerably put an unfavourable effect on the competition that exists in any of the potential relevant markets in the country. 
 
Now it’s up to the commission to review if this swapping will cause any undesirable impact on the competition in India, a market where both these companies have been progressively growing their businesses over the last few years. 
 It was in 2012 that Sanofi's animal health business had acquired Mumbai-based Dosch Pharma with the purpose of boosting its national marketing and distribution presence. In 2014, on the other hand, <keyword id="145300" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Boehringer-Ingelheim">Boehringer Ingelheim</keyword> stopped its marketing partnership with Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila for two gastrointestinal brands Buscopan and Dulcolax, re-launching those as Buscogast and Dulcoflex. This was done to set up and expand its consumer healthcare brands business in the country. 
 
Swapping of assets is a new trend that one can see in the global healthcare businesses. In 2014, the commission had cleared a three-way deal between Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline and Eli Lilly. The deal enabled Swiss-based Novartis to acquire the oncology assets of GSK, based in Britain; in return of this, GSK acquired its vaccines business. The deal also led to a JV for consumer healthcare products, and GSK selling its animal healthcare arm to Indiana, US-based Eli Lilly.

Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim seek CCI’s clearance for global asset swap deal worth $25 billion

New Delhi, Dec 11 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Wednesday said it has launched its affordable oral anti-diabetic Vinglyn brand tablets available in two formulations in India.
 As the product patent on popular diabetes drug Vildagliptin has expired in India on December 9, some domestic drug firms have launched the generic versions of the drug in the country that are much cheaper than the patented medicine.
 "Priced at just Rs 4.95 per tablet, which is almost 1/6th the price at which the patented Vildagliptin was initially launched in India, Vinglyn is now one of the most affordable brands of Vildagliptin for diabetic patients in India," Zydus Cadila said in a statement.
 Vinglyn and Vinglyn M will be marketed by Zydus Healthcare Ltd, it added.
 Zydus Cadila Managing Director Sharvil Patel said, "Fortifying our fight against diabetes, our aim is to make therapies affordable and accessible to patients from across sections of society."
 With Vinglyn, Zydus Cadila believes that it has once again been able to offer this. The access to one of the most affordable gliptin therapies will help a large number of patients suffering from type-2 diabetes, in India, he added.
 With a patient population of almost 77 million diabetics in India, access to affordable therapy is vital for the effective management of the disease, the statement said.
 The drug belongs to the class of oral anti-diabetic agents, known as DPP4 inhibitors, which have shown promise in achieving glycaemic control without deterioration in beta cell function and are one of the recent advancements in diabetes care and management, the statement said.
 Another drug firm Panacea Biotec on Tuesday had said it had launched its VilACT brand tablets available in four formulations, for treatment of type-2 diabetes in India.
 The company had also said its brand will be an affordable and high-quality medicine.
 According to the AIOCD MAT October 2019 data, the total market size of this molecule and its combination is Rs 969 crore and is growing at the rate of 4 per cent, Panacea Biotec had said.
 Shares of Cadila Healthcare, the listed entity of the Zydus group closed at Rs 262.25 per scrip on the BSE, up 0.50 per cent from its previous close. AKT HRS

Zydus Cadila launches affordable oral anti-diabetic tablets in India as drug goes off patent

New Delhi, Feb 13 () Zydus Cadila on Thursday said it has got final approval from the US health regulator to market Mesalamine suppositories. The drug is used to treat ulcerative proctitis, a type of bowel disease. "Zydus Cadila has received the final approval from the USFDA to market Mesalamine Suppositories for rectal use...1000 mg," the drug firm said in a regulatory filing. Mesalamine Suppositories is an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug and is believed to work by blocking the production of certain natural chemicals that may cause pain and swelling. This will be manufactured at the group's topical manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad. The group now has 280 approvals and has so far filed over 386 ANDAs since the commencement of the filing process in FY 2003-04. Shares of Cadila Healthcare, the listed entity of the group, were trading down 0.10 per cent at Rs 1,468.95 per scrip on BSE. SID DRR
