Planning and running of additional trains is a continuous process for which inputs are taken from all the communication channels 24x 7 like media reports, Social media platforms, Railway Integrated helpline number 139, apart from details of waitlist passengers in PRS system, to assess demand of trains on a particular route. Based on this requirement, number of trains and number of trips are augmented. Neither the number of trains nor the number of trips run by additional train(s) is static for the entire season. Private lender <keyword id="2240511" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bandhan-bank" source="Orion">Bandhan Bank</keyword> on Wednesday said it has been authorised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to disburse <keyword id="6354432" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pension" source="Orion">pension</keyword> to <keyword id="19806630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retired-railways-employees" source="Orion">retired railways employees</keyword>. In a statement, the bank said the lender will shortly integrate its system with the railways ministry to operationalise the pension disbursement process. The mandate will give the bank access to around 50,000 retirees each year across 17 zonal offices and eight production units of the railways across the country. Debraj Saha, head (government business), Bandhan Bank, said, "Indian Railways is one of the largest employers in the country. This will help <keyword id="6379276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pensioners" source="Orion">pensioners</keyword> to get access to competitive rates offered by the bank and other products of the lender."

Around 5% of the revenue of the world’s fourth-largest rail network comes from non-fare sources, while the figure is 10-20% for national railway systems in other countries. In January 2017, the then-Minister of Railways, <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="suresh-prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword>, announced a number of initiatives to increase non-fare revenues through advertising on trains and railways infrastructure like crossing gates and roads as well as through on-demand entertainment services. Fast forwarding to September 2018, those initiatives are yet to come to fruition. The tenders floated did not receive an enthusiastic response from vendors. In 2017-18, the Indian Railways earned only ₹86 billion in non-fare revenue, compared with an original target of ₹140 billion, with most of this coming from the sale of scrap assets and station parking fees. This was also a 17% drop from the previous year. Hence, the Railways Ministry has decided to revise its approach. It still plans to earn ₹150 billion in non-fare revenue, but is expecting to reach that level within the next 10 years. Here’s how it plans to get there:- Shorter contract spans In a circular issued this week, the Railways Ministry said it planned to award contracts for non-fare revenue projects for around three to five years, as opposed to original contract durations of five to ten years. In offering shorter licences for advertising on train compartments and bridges, setting up ATMs on railway platforms and offering content to passengers, the government expects to attract more vendors. The licence fee for advertising services will be the same for the first three years, after which it will increase by 10% each year. The contracts will be capped at five years with an option to extend by one year. Decentralisation is the name of the game Rather than centralising all non-fare revenue operations, the Railways Ministry has decided to delegate decision-making and maintenance to the general managers of the 16 zones which the network is divided into. In terms of on-demand entertainment services, vendors will enter into a revenue-sharing model with the zonal railways division and share a percentage of their earnings above the fixed minimum guarantee. Zonal heads will have full authority to implement the scheme. The move, which was announced in May, will facilitate a quicker vendor selection process and reduce the burden of oversight on the central government.

Indian Railways apprentice recruitment registrations open — Here’s how to apply online

New Delhi, May 1 () The railways will charge state governments for ferrying people stranded due to the coronavirus-triggered lockdown in its 'Shramik Special' trains, according to an order issued on Friday. The fare would include cost of sleeper class ticket, superfast charge of Rs 30 and Rs 20 for meals and water per passenger. After more than a month of suspension of services, the railways on Friday, which is also International Labour Day, announced six "Shramik Special" trains for migrant workers, students and others who were stranded due to the lockdown. The first such service was run with 1,200 passengers from Hyderabad to Jharkhand at 4:50 am on Friday. The other five which are scheduled to run include -- Nasik to Lucknow (at 9:30 pm), Aluva to Bhubaneswar (6 pm), Nasik to Bhopal (8 pm), Jaipur to Patna and Kota to Hatia (9 pm). Each train is expected to carry 1,000-1,200 passengers. "Passengers need not buy anything from the railways. State governments will coordinate and pay on their behalf," the railways said. Thousands of migrants were stranded in places across the country since the lockdown was enforced on March 25, many even attempting to walk home hundreds of kilometres away. On Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave permission to the railways to run special trains for migrants and those stranded in different parts of the country. States like Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Telangana have requested special trains to ferry migrant workers back to their home states. "As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been decided to run 'Shramik Special' trains from 'Labour Day' today to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to the lockdown. "These special trains will be run from point to point on the request of both the state governments concerned as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons. The railways and state governments shall appoint senior officials as nodal officers for coordination and a smooth operation of these 'Shramik Specials'," the national transporter said. Officials said that a list of hundreds of such services have been planned by zonal railways over the coming days. The railways also clarified that that these are special trains planned for nominated people identified and registered by state governments. "No one under any circumstance should come to Railway station looking for trains. We will not issue any tickets to any individual or entertain any request from any group or individual. We will allow only those passengers to board whom state govt officials will bring to Railway Stations. Railways to charge states for ferrying migrant workers during lockdown

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Passengers at 25 more railway stations such as Ajmer, Jaipur and Jodhpur would be served tea and other food items in environment friendly materials like Kulhad as the North-Western Railway has directed zonal officers to take steps for ensuring the use of green catering products at these places.
 These 25 stations include Bikaner, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Hanumangarh, Shri Ganganagar, Hisar, Churu, Suratgarh, Jodhpur, Pali, Barmer, Nagpur, Jaisalmer, Bhagat Ki Kothi, Luni, Jaipur, Jhunjhuna, Dausa, Gandhi Nagar, Durgapura, Sikar, Ajmer, Udaipur, Sirohi Road and Abu Road.
 Earlier at the request of Union MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal directed railway board to issue the directions accordingly.
 Consequently, the Railway Board on September 9 directed all principal chief commercial managers of the zonal railways across the country and IRCTC CMD.
 "In view of above, zonal railways and IRCTC are advised to take necessary action to ensure use of locally produced, environmentally savvy terracotta products like kulhad, glasses and plates for serving catering items to passengers through all static catering units at the identified railway stations with immediate effect".
