And to receive these tasks, the woman claimed that she paid Rs 54.30 lakh in various accounts. And sometimes, this really is the case. Various cases have surfaced in the past where the victims were duped of their hard-earned money by their online lovers. Just last month, a man in Delhi was scammed of Rs 1.2 lakh when he planned to meet a woman he was talking to on Tinder. The two met at a cafe in Delhi to celebrate the woman’s birthday and ordered some snacks, cakes, and wine. The woman however, abruptly left in the middle of the date citing a family emergency. And the victim incurred a bill of Rs 1,21,917.70 for food that should have only cost a few thousand bucks. When he questioned the high bill, he was threatened and forced to pay. After investigating, the police found that the cafe split the high bills in a set way: 15% to the girl, 45% to the table and cafe managers, and 40% to the owners. <h2>Fake screenshots scams</h2>Another type of scam that is widely happening in the country is where you are shown a screenshot that gives the impression that your account has been credited with some money, when it actually has not. For instance, in March this year, a Delhi Uber driver was making headlines for overcharging a customer for a ride to the airport. A Moneycontrol report mentioned how a man described his experience in a Reddit thread. As per the report, the man said that he had booked a ride to the airport and the initial fare was Rs 340. However, when the ride was completed, the Uber driver showed him a screenshot which depicted that the fare was Rs 648. The driver had claimed that the fare increased due to more waiting time. However, that wasn’t the case and the driver had created a fake screenshot to demand extra money. For instance, a report by PTI last year revealed that a 70-year-old woman was buying six towels online for Rs 1,160. While making the payment, Rs 19,005 was taken from her account instead of Rs 1,160. She tried to contact the bank helpline but couldn't reach them. Soon after, she got a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be from the bank and offered to help with her payment problem. He asked her to download an app for the refund. The woman followed his instructions but ended up losing Rs 1 lakh from her account. When she saw the unauthorised transactions, she went to the police station. Meanwhile, another Rs 8.3 lakh was withdrawn from her account. <h2>How to stay safe from such scams</h2>Even though more and more people are being targeted by scammers, there are some ways that you can ensure that you stay safe. Even though <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-valuation-mrbeast-how-much-worth-2024-3">the world's biggest video site is a giant business</a>, a huge cultural engine, and, a bit weirdly, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-tv-fourth-biggest-pay-tv-cable-broadband-bundle-google-2024-2">a growing cable TV operator</a>.Which means that Neal Mohan, YouTube's CEO, flies under the radar a bit, too. [Your payout] is 55% for a regular video. Why do you think none of your competitors at Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat have instituted a system like the one you guys have?It's a good question. Why do you think that's the case?It's expensive.[nods]You're nodding. This is an audio medium, but you're nodding.I guess what I would say is we are really proud of the fact that we're not just the original, but the largest creator economy.And creators, when they speak with me, they're fundamentally focused on two things. First and foremost, of course, is helping them find and build an audience. Without that, nothing else matters.But the second thing is lots of creative people want to earn a living. They want to build a business on YouTube. And so those are the two fundamental conversations we have. And the last three years, as you know, we've paid out $70 billion to the creator economy. That is something we are enormously proud of.But to be a devil's advocate — don't you look at the folks at Instagram, the folks at TikTok, and go "They're building huge businesses. Creators seem to be making stuff for them. They're not getting anything out of it, or they're getting very little compared to what we pay. I wish we could pay less." Do you have that conversation?Our mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world that's core to what we do. And you can't do that in any meaningful way without also giving [creators] the means to build a livelihood on the platform.But instead of 55%, it could be 25%, right? It would still be better than any other deal you get anywhere else. You're still providing all those tools. People are still going to use you because you're still cutting bigger checks than anybody else. Why not do that?I am a firm believer that the real path to success here is to grow the overall pie … as opposed to thinking about whether the share should be X or Y.You rolled out <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/shorts">Shorts</a> a couple of years ago. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtube-shorts-gains-on-tiktok-as-app-for-music-fans-2024-7">It's your TikTok clone</a>, and that has a different payout. It's 45% instead of 55%. Why is that a lower percentage?Well, the mechanics of Shorts monetization work a little bit differently. The modality is consumption in a feed that you're scrolling through. So those dollars are pooled as opposed to the way that they work in kind of traditional YouTube long-form, with the ads being associated with the videos. So, just even the concept of rev share, just there at a base level, is a bit different.There are other things also that go into producing and having Shorts content created that are just different in terms of the cost structure. A lot of Shorts is about creation within the platform. So there's a lot of resources we invest in to make it so that those creation tools are effective, that all those filters and effects work the way that they do, so that they get distributed in the feed. So it's just a different set of services that we offer to creators vs. long-form, which, as you know, traditionally has grown up through people just uploading to YouTube.So your costs are greater.There's just a lot of tools and services that we provide in that context, the mobile creation context, that traditional long-form YouTube videos didn't have as that side of the business.So here's a hypothetical, but not that hypothetical scenario. I assume you have thought about it: We're going to have an election in November, and there's a scenario where Donald Trump loses — is declared the loser by news organizations — and Donald Trump and his allies say, "This is not true. We're going to fight this. We're going to basically replay <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trumps-stop-the-steal-lie-bigger-threat-russiagate-2021-10">Stop the Steal</a>." Have you thought about how you're going to handle people saying that the election was fraudulent?I'll say a few things. First, just like 2020 and 2022 and the dozens and dozens of elections around the world, responsibility is our top priority. I have a team that is focused on election integrity. We just concluded the world's largest election that happened over six, seven weeks, in India, where we went through a lot of this and had to remain vigilant. And the US election is not going to be different in that context. And so all the tools that we have learned have been effective here are going to be tools and capabilities that we're going to have in place.I'll explain the hierarchy [of our plan] from my standpoint, which is first and foremost — and really, where a lot of the action happens on a platform like YouTube — making sure that we're actually raising up content that comes from authoritative sources.You go to YouTube, you're looking for information. And so you should get it from those types of sources, whether that's CNN or The New York Times or Fox News. That's going to be first and foremost.It's not what gets talked a lot about, but that's actually what users experience.Our election integrity rules of the road are pretty clear. We are going to enforce those regardless of what happens there.But the other thing that's also very important is we have these core principles, but we also need to remain flexible to what's actually happening in the environment. And we will be in this case as well.If we have a replay of 2020, where this year's equivalent of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/rudy-giuliani">Rudy Giuliani</a> is running around with Donald Trump saying, "There's fraud here, there's fraud there," making up claims — you guys aren't in a position to evaluate whether they're making up those claims. Do you allow them to put those on YouTube? Do you allow people to report on those claims?Generally speaking, we are an open platform of really wide political discourse. And, as you know, leading up to an election, post an election, a lot of that political discourse is very heated, lots of opinions flying around. And the basis for how YouTube works is we allow for that content to exist and for people to access that content. But what's also happening is this content from authoritative sources, news sources that are actually covering the details, the analysis rises to the top in recommendations, but you also see it very visibly in the breaking news shelf when you open up the app when you're searching for that type of information.You keep asking about what stays up and what comes down. But what I'm trying to say is that a lot of what's actually important to the user experience is a lot of these partnerships that we have with news organizations and whose content actually shows up.That sounds totally reasonable to me, but I live in reality. I'm a fact-based person. But there's going to be people who go, "What happened to so-and-so conspiracy theorist? The video is still there, but you're not pushing it to me. Instead, you're showing me the biased news from ABC or CNN or New York Times, and you're not giving me what I want. You are engaged in bias, you're engaged in some sort of censorship."We can do a couple of things. First is, we have to be clear in terms of our principles, like hopefully I've been able to articulate for you here. And then we have to be transparent about what our community guidelines are, and then we have to do our best to actually enforce against those. And we're going to get criticized regardless of the types of decisions make, but our duty is to be principled about it, transparent about it, and to have really high-quality enforcement around our rules of the road.Do you ever sort of look longingly over at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-brazil-free-speech-content-moderation-fines-seizure-2024-9">Elon Musk and what he's doing at Twitter</a> and go, "Man, my job would be much easier if we just didn't really involve ourselves in moderation very much at all?"I think that our approach to responsibility, how we think about our community guidelines, is core to how YouTube operates. This process is not just about feeding the model data but also validating the output to ensure it functions as intended. “There’s a lot of requirements for data training and validation,” said Ramesh, highlighting the substantial demand for data annotators, labelers, and specialists in areas like image and video annotation. These roles are crucial for ensuring that the data used to train models is of high quality and accurately reflects the task at hand. However, the skills required for these roles go beyond traditional data labelling. The workforce must move away from rigid Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and understand the context in which data is being used. This requires employees to make judgement calls that help refine the model’s performance, adapting to continuously evolving instruction sets. "It’s collaborative intelligence—human intelligence combined with artificial intelligence," Ramesh noted. To address this evolving demand for skills, companies like Wipro have implemented comprehensive upskilling programs. These programs are tailored to different business segments, from basic AI awareness (AI 101) to advanced training for developers, engineers, and architects—those working directly on the models. Atreya shared that over 10,000 developers and engineers at Wipro are currently receiving training across these programs. <h2>AI’s role in transforming BPM operations</h2>According to Suhrid Brahma, the Chief Technology Officer at WNS Global Systems, the core model of the BPM industry is changing. “There is a shift from focus on people, to outcomes and value-add as an industry,” he said. He outlines a three-part strategy for the upgrades needed in AI-driven BPM, beginning with AI in operations. By building an AI-skilled workforce and maintaining a ‘human in the loop’ approach, organisations can maximise the value of AI while keeping essential human oversight. India's BPM industry to see sharp demand for AI-skilled talent over the next 3-5 years

In its second innings, the BPM industry has shifted its focus to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, which offer a wealth of talent, lower operational costs and more accommodative regulations. “The industry has started to take jobs to where the talent is rather than the other way around,” remarked Sapna Bhambani, the Senior VP of Operations and Geo Leader at TaskUs. She highlighted that over half of TaskUs’ business is now based out of Tier-II cities with Indore and Mohali leading the way. “The states where the government is extending a helping hand are the most successful emerging hubs,” Bhambani added. Nasscom too is keen on Tier-II and Tier-III cities for the expansion of the BPM industry, identifying Lucknow, Kanpur, Coimbatore, Trichy, Indore, Bhopal, Vizag and Vijayawada as notable emerging hubs. Gupta emphasised that the industry body will be working hand-in-hand with the universities and institutions in the area to build talent pipelines and garner support. And hiring from Tier-II cities is not just about tapping into new talent pools; it’s also improving employee retention, which has been a pain point for the industry in recent years. Tech Mahindra has tried to counter this by hiring for non-frontline roles from within the company, rather than hiring new talent. However, as Venkatesh Korla, the CEO of Americas at Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) pointed out, a cultural shift is still needed to rebrand BPM jobs. “It’s changing. It’s not 100 percent there yet… They’ve realised there’s a lot more stickiness and a lot more opportunity in the BPM space, and we see talent also want to take on these jobs,” Korla explained. <h2>Creating new markets</h2>Most AI processes are trained using large language models (LLMs). Many, GPT-Neo and BERT, are open-source, which means they’re free for anyone to use. However, enterprises are looking to build their own LLMs in-house to train their AI products primarily to maintain control over proprietary data – a move that opens up new opportunities for BPM firms. “Large SAS companies want to integrate their own LLM in their products and they require the same BPM services to actually train their models. That’s a huge opportunity,” Birendra Sen, the President of Business Process Services at Tech Mahindra, told Business Insider. <h2>The need for experimentation</h2>While the use of Gen-AI in the BPM industry is widespread, many initiatives are still in the Proof of Concept (POC) stage. This implies that while there is investment, both in terms of money and manpower, directed at creating more Gen-AI led solutions, they may not necessarily succeed. “If something fails, we just fail fast and move,” Gupta told Business Insider. Moreover, leaders like Venkatesh Korla view AI as a transformative tool that complements human expertise rather than replacing it. “AI is going to help in coaching, compliance, and in quality control. I call this the Iron Man's suit or the J.A.R.V.I.S. for Iron Man because it never replaces the human inside the suit. So, that's really how we need to look at it,” Korla remarked. India’s BPM sector has demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of previous challenges, such as the rise of automation and the shift towards digital services. "We've long had policies to remove content that glorifies or promotes eating disorders. YouTube announces new policies on eating disorder content

Google-owned <keyword id="10879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube" source="Orion">YouTube</keyword> has announced that it is testing a new feature that allows users to easily watch videos at 2x speed. "Long press anywhere on the player while watching a video to automatically bump the playback speed to 2x," the company said on its experiments page. Although the feature is in testing, Premium members can access this feature until August 13. This feature will be helpful as currently, users have to follow a few steps to move up the playback speed on the platform which might be frustrating for some people. The company also mentioned another feature it is testing that provides bigger previews to users while seeking. "We've enlarged the preview thumbnail that you see when moving forward or back in a video." This feature will be helpful as it will make it easier for users to find the exact moment in the video that they want to watch. Premium members can access this functionality until August 13. Earlier, the company had announced that it was testing a new lock screen feature, which will allow users to disable touch input while watching a video. It will help prevent accidental taps causing pause, skip or disruption of the video. When initially announced, this lock screen feature was accessible to Premium users until July 30, however now, the company has extended it to August 5. Last month, the video-sharing platform had said that it was testing a three-strikes policy for people using ad blockers. "We're running a small experiment globally that urges viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium. Ad blocker detection is not new, and other publishers regularly ask viewers to disable ad blockers," a YouTube spokesperson had said. The company also provided details on how the policy works, while noting that "ad blockers violate YouTube's Terms of Service". Interestingly, as much as 65-75% of the users that are hooked onto these primarily user generated content (UGC) platforms, are from Tier 2+ cities. “A sizable user base of these (home grown) platforms reside in Tier 2+ and rural regions and over 100 million users of these platforms transact online,” Redseer said. The trigger for the growth of home grown apps in India, is the banning of TikTok that made them grow. “Over 58% of the survey respondents reported an increase in their SFV usage over the past six months, indicating significant user satisfaction with these platforms,” the report added. What’s keeping Bharat hooked on them? High-quality creator base, localised and regional content the report says adding that platforms too launched creator programs, fostered collaborations with celebrities, and attracted and onboarded local talent. There’s an avalanche of original content across genres, languages and more hitting these platforms. An analysis of real-time feed data (around 1,20,000 videos per year) indicates that the original content percentage has increased significantly with over 99% original content on every refresh during Jan-Aug 2023 compared to 92% original content in 2022, Redseer says. "Handles join channel names as another way to identify a YouTube channel, but unlike channel names, handles are truly unique to each channel so creators can further establish their distinct presence and brand on YouTube," it added. Over the next month, the platform will notify creators when they can choose a handle for their channel. "In most cases, if a channel already has a personalised URL, that will automatically become their default handle, or they can opt to change the handle for their channel as soon as the notification in <keyword id="6731673" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="youtube-studio" source="Orion">YouTube Studio</keyword> comes through," the platform said. "Because handles must be unique and every channel on YouTube will have one, we are rolling them out gradually," it added.
