<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/48668223.cms" /><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=maggi">Maggi</a> is fighting its battle and now <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ITC">ITC</a> may have to prove it too. Recently, Uttar Pradesh <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=food+and+drug+authority">Food and Drug Authority</a> (FDA) claimed that it had found excess lead in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Yippee+noodles">Yippee noodles</a> manufactured by ITC and will soon file a case.<br />
 <br />
The state food authority stated that samples of Yippee noodles, seized from a local mall in Aligarh, had lead "far in excess to the permissible limit".<br />
<br /> Today, <keyword id="121459" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ITC-Ltd">ITC Ltd</keyword> denied receiving any notice on the same, adding that Sunfeast Yippee noodles were manufactured to the highest standards of safety, hygiene and quality.<br />
<br />
The company said it did not receive any communication from the UP government regarding presence of excess lead in its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=instant+noodles">instant noodle</a> brand.<br />
<br />
“The company has not received any communication from the UP government authorities on this issue. Stories such as this can be misleading and can only help create suspicion and mistrust in the minds of the consumer. This will not only damage the brand but also severely impact industry as a whole and future investment for the economy," ITC said in a clarification to the BSE.<br />
<br />
ITC said the Yippee noodles and pasta were tested recently at NABL-accredited and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=FSSAI">FSSAI</a>-approved laboratories and it was found that all the samples conformed to the Food Safety Regulations.<br />
<br />
"We rigorously and regularly test our products for all parameters including heavy metals both in our in-house NABL accredited laboratory at the ITC Life Sciences and Technology Centre, Bengaluru and external NABL accredited and FSSAI approved laboratories," it added.<br />

Stock up Yippee noodles lovers, it may face a ban too

ITC has decided to remove the "no added MSG" disclaimer from Yipee noodles under FSSAI’s direction. <br />
<br /> The <keyword id="6376343" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Food-Safety-and-Standards-Authority-of-India">Food Safety and Standards Authority of India</keyword> (FSSAI), in connection with noodles of another brand, had held that such statement of having no MSG was "inappropriate", ITC said in a statement. <br />
<br />
"Therefore, ITC is voluntarily taking steps to remove the phrase 'no added MSG' from its labels in its new batches of packaging and consumers should ignore this on the current packaging. ITC would like to once again assure consumers that MSG is not added to Sunfeast YiPPee! Noodles," ITC said in the statement. <br />
<br />
It added: "In recent weeks, there has been some confusion about the manner of declaration of MSG in packaged food items". <br />
<br />
"Under the FSS Act, if a manufacturer adds MSG to the product, the quantum of MSG so added needs to be declared. Since no MSG is added in Yippee noodles, the packages carried a statement to that effect, i.e., "contains no added MSG," it added. <br />
<br />
The food regulator has ordered testing of several noodles, pasta and macaroni brands that includes Top Ramen, Foodles and Wai Wai to check if they comply with the food security norms. <br />
<br />
Nestle India, ITC, Indo Nissin Food Ltd, GSK Consumer Healthcare, CG Foods India, Ruchi International and AA Nutrition Ltd’s products are being tested under direction from FSSAI. <br />

ITC will withdraw "no added MSG" from its Yippee
noodles

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/47471012.cms" />Bollywood actress <keyword id="6355846" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Madhuri-Dixit">Madhuri Dixit</keyword> has landed in soup because of favourite two minute noodles-Maggi.<br />
 <br /> The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Uttarakhand has sent a notice to Madhuri for endorsing <keyword id="726194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="maggi-noodles">Maggi noodles</keyword>, which is under scanner for high content of lead and Mono Sodium glutamate.<br />

The administration has asked Madhuri, 48, to reply within 15 days on an advertisement in which she talks about the nutrition value of Maggi noodles.<br />
 <br />
The FDA has also asked her explain the basis of her claims in the ad.<br />
 <br />
Food Security Officer Mahimanand Joshi said if she fails to respond to the notice within the stipulated time frame, a case could be registered against her.<br />

A huge furore broke out on April 30 when the food authorities in Lucknow asked Nestle to recall one batch of Maggi noodles after tests showed it contained seven times higher levels of lead than permissible and traces of Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG) and high amounts of lead, more than the permissible limits that could cause harm to organs in our body.<br />

Nestle defended it saying, the batch was manufactured in February 2014 and had reached the best-before date in November. One batch contains about 200,000 packs.<br />

As per a news report in The Economic Times the company has said its practice is to collect stock near the expiry date from distributors and retailers.<br />
 <br />
The company told the ET, it doesn't add MSG to Maggi noodles sold in India and this is stated on the product. "However, we use hydrolysed groundnut protein, onion powder and wheat flour to make Maggi noodles sold in India, which all contain glutamate. We believe that the authorities' tests may have detected glutamate, which occurs naturally in many foods," the company said.<br />

Madhuri Dixit is in legal trouble because of Maggi!

The same thing <keyword id="75190" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nestle">Nestle</keyword> owned Maggi must be pondering over after its rival in the instant noodle segment, <keyword id="6357073" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITC">ITC</keyword> has sued the former on the grounds of <keyword id="388837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="intellectual-property">intellectual property</keyword> infringement.<br />
 <br /> As per a news report by The Economic Times, <keyword id="6356830" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nestle-India">Nestle India</keyword> is planning to appeal against a Madras High Court interim order over its product, 'Maggi Magical Masala', in a case filed by ITC. The latter said the Maggi variant was launched on the back of the success of its 'Yippee! <keyword id="2835848" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="magic-masala">Magic Masala</keyword>', thereby infringing on its intellectual property rights.<br />
 <br /> The respondent has to withdraw the Maggi Magical Masala variant even if it plans to file an appeal, ITC <keyword id="6457615" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Counsel">counsel</keyword> <keyword id="2835847" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-C-Mohan">Arun C Mohan</keyword> of law firm <keyword id="2835450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mohan-Associates">Mohan Associates</keyword> told the ET. The financial daily has a copy of the interim order that was passed on April 29. The order said although ITC's instant noodle was marketed under the Sunfeast Yippee brand, it was popularly known as Magic Masala and ITC not only used the term first, but showed it had won <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> against its rival with the product.<br />
<br /> An ITC <keyword id="6357308" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="spokesperson">spokesperson</keyword> declined to comment on the issue. A spokesperson of Nestle India has told the daily,”We have seen the interim order and are preparing to file an appeal." "The respondent cannot sell this variant till the time they win after making the appeal. The judgment is significant in the sense that an IPR infringement can be enforced even against a <keyword id="139821" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-leader">market leader</keyword>," Mohan said.<br />
<br />
As per market estimates, Nestle has around 72% volume share in instant noodles against ITC's 18%. This is put at 74% and 17% by value, respectively. These figures could not be independently confirmed with Nestle and ITC.<br />
