Aditya Chopra-run Yash Raj Films (YRF) is no different. Taking a break from tradition, YRF Talent has, for the first time, signed on Sonam Kapoor, an actor whom they did not launch. Kapoor’s return to films after becoming a mother will begin with two tentpole projects, details of which are currently under wraps. Kapoor became a mother in August 2022 and is now ready to chart her return to tinsel town. Typically a tentpole is a studio definition of a film project that entails very low financial risk compared to other films from the studio’s slate. Tentpole projects are more inclusive and typically are culturally more relatable. These films are also designed to appeal to consumers across genders and age groups. Given that Kapoor’s appeal is not just as an actor but also as a fashion icon, YRF will look at projects that can easily link all these aspects of her personality. As a studio, <keyword id="12077027" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yashraj-films" source="Orion">Yashraj Films</keyword> is identified for the mega blockbusters that it churns out almost every year. Some of the biggest blockbusters from YRF include Pathaan, Sultan, <keyword id="3561865" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tiger-zinda-hai" source="Orion">Tiger Zinda Hai</keyword> and the Dhoom franchise. Pathaan was among the highest- grossing films of 2023 with collections of over ₹1,000 crore. Prithwish Ganguly, vice president - talent and communications strategy at YRF, confirms this development saying, “It is exciting to join forces with Sonam Kapoor as she charts her path to return to the movies. Sonam is a unique and a very exciting brand. We are delighted to on-board her as an artist that we will manage exclusively and curate her brand strategy globally.” YRF is known to launch its own talent, which is why the signing of Kapoor is a departure from its strategy of building homegrown talent. Kapoor is the first actress YRF has signed, whom the studio did not launch. YRF has launched actors like Ranveer Singh and <keyword id="6357860" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="anushka-sharma" source="Orion">Anushka Sharma</keyword>. With this deal, Bollywood star Kapoor will be exclusively managed by the boutique agency YRF Talent. Sonam Kapoor plans to return to Bollywood with two films after signing up with YRF Talent

The <keyword id="48485" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bombay-high-court" source="Orion">Bombay High Court</keyword> on Thursday refused relief to actor <keyword id="6357860" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="anushka-sharma" source="Orion">Anushka Sharma</keyword> and disposed of her petitions challenging orders passed by the state Sales Tax department demanding tax for assessment years between 2012 to 2016 under the <keyword id="16042124" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maharashtra-value-added-tax-act" source="Orion">Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act</keyword>. A division bench of <keyword id="9774337" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="justices-nitin-jamdar" source="Orion">Justices Nitin Jamdar</keyword> and <keyword id="9265938" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="abhay-ahuja" source="Orion">Abhay Ahuja</keyword> said the actor had the alternate remedy of filing appeal against the orders under provisions of <keyword id="601688" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maharashtra-value-added-tax" source="Orion">Maharashtra Value Added Tax</keyword> (MVAT) Act. <keyword id="445" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="sharma" source="Orion">Sharma</keyword> had filed four petitions challenging four orders passed by the Sales Tax department levying tax for assessment years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 under the Act. "Why should we entertain the petitions when the petitioner (Sharma) has a full fledged remedy of appeal available under the Act? Statutory provision is available," the bench said. The court, while disposing of Sharma's petitions, directed her to file appeal before the Deputy Commissioner of Sales Tax (Appeals) within a period of four weeks. Under the Act, when a person files appeal, he or she will have to deposit 10 per cent of the tax amount levied by the department. As per the Sales Tax department, Sharma was the "first owner of copyrights" on her performances at awards functions or stage shows, and, therefore, liable to pay sales tax when she received income from them. As she "transferred" this <keyword id="15456337" type="TOPIC" weightage="60" keywordseo="Copyright" source="TOPIC" sourcekeytype="business,investopedia" meta.keywordsubtype="null" meta.msid="92982198" meta.seopath="c/copyright" meta.entityname="Copyright" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="copyright">copyright</keyword> to the producers of such events for a fee, it was akin to a sale, the Sales Tax department contended. Sharma's contention is an actor who performs in a film, advertisement or a stage/TV show cannot be called a creator or producer, and, hence, she or he does not own a copyright on the same. The court said all the issues raised by Sharma in her petitions can be decided by the appellate authority. "The authority will go into all the issues and conduct a detailed inquiry. If we sit to decide this, then every <keyword id="16987535" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mvat-act" source="Orion">MVAT Act</keyword> matter will come here," the court said. The department had sought for the petitions to be dismissed and cost be imposed on Sharma as she had an alternate remedy available under the MVAT Act. According to Sharma's petitions, during the concerned period she performed in films and at award ceremonies as part of a tri-party agreement with her agent <keyword id="15841112" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yashraj-films-pvt-ltd" source="Orion">Yashraj Films Pvt Ltd</keyword> and producers/event organisers. The assessing officer levied sales tax not on film consideration but on product endorsements and anchoring at award functions, holding that Sharma had transferred her performer's rights, her petitions said. For Assessment Year 2012-13, the sales tax demand, inclusive of interest, was Rs 1.2 crore on Rs 12.3 crore consideration and for 2013-14, it was Rs 1.6 crore on a consideration of Rs 17 crore. The sales tax department passed the orders between 2021 and 2022. Sharma is known for her roles in films like "PK", "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", "Sultan" and "Zero", among others. SRK thanks people worldwide for the overwhelming response to 'FAN'

Shah Rukh Khan is back and how! His first 2016 release, <keyword id="112723" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maneesh-Sharma">Maneesh Sharma</keyword>’s ‘<keyword id="6385067" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="fan">FAN</keyword>’ in which King Khan essays a double role of both Aryan, an egotistical superstar and Gaurav, his obsessive fan released to packed theatres today. 
 
The movie has generated positive responses with the actor being lauded for his performance of a life-time. It is gripping, dark and unusually good and we have no one but Maneesh Sharma to thank for that. It was actually recreated in Mumbai's Film City after the makers didn't get permission to shoot inside SRK's house for security reasons.

No use of mobile phones was allowed during the shooting of FAN: s Shah Rukh Khan plays a double role in the movie, one of which required the use of make-up and prosthetics to alter how he looked, the makers were very strict about the use of mobile phones during the shoot of the movie as they didn’t want the look to be leaked. Thus, no one was allowed to use their phones. 
 
 
 
6. The film has used real footage of SRK’s fans: Among the first few scenes of the movie comes the scene where fans gather around SRK’s house on his birthday and the actor comes out on his balcony to acknowledge and wave at them. Some scenes for this included real footage that was shot for his birthday on 2014 and 2015.

Other than the music, the attraction of the movie is debutante Bhumi Pednekar, who used to work as the assistant of Shanoo, the casting director of Yash Raj films. To say the least, Bhumi Pednekar doesn’t look like a conventional actress, given her plain jane looks and healthy figure. However, she proved in the trailer itself what she has it in herself that bagged her three-film deal with Yash Raj, one of the most reputed production houses in the industry. 
 
Kumar Sanu plays an important part not only in the music but also the script of the story, given that Ayushmann Khurrana’s character is a huge Kumar Sanu fan. The singer would also be seen doing a cameo in the film. 
 
Let’s hope that other music composers and film makers learn from the album and offer some great music and not blaring noises that is served in the name of music these days.

Relive the ’90s with Dum Laga Ke Haisha

Friday, 8.55 am. An otherwise empty multiplex is packed. The sound of voices chattering in anticipation reeked of expectations from the actor whose performances used to be accompanied by goosebumps once upon a time. 
 
Of late, his movie choices or acting hasn’t quite been the talk of the town. Sure, some of them did rule the box office and a few even got him awards but it goes without saying that all of them had one thing in common- they hurt. I'm looking at you Dilwale. 
 
And, yet two seconds into the movie-the claps, laughs and the whistles start. The power of<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=srk&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> Shah Rukh Khan</a>.

And, boy did it give us the answer we were hoping against hope for. 
 
If you are a fan of Shah Rukh Khan the actor, heave a sigh of relief. If you can’t get enough of enjoying Shah Rukh Khan the star, heave a sigh of relief, too. 
 
With <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Watch-This-honest-FAN-anthem-will-make-every-SRK-fan-miss-the-good-old-days/articleshow/51823116.cms">FAN</a>, SRK has managed to weave together his two personas- that of the ‘actor’ who is the ‘star.’ It's about time. 
 
 
 
And, suddenly halfway through the movie, the whistles, claps and gasps start making sense. 
 <keyword id="112723" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maneesh-Sharma">Maneesh Sharma</keyword> builds an interesting premise with the story of Gaurav Chandna, a simpleton from West Delhi who runs a cyber cafe and proclaims his unconditional love for his hero Aryan Khanna by winning local talent hunts with his Aryan Khan tribute. 
 
All he wants in his life is to meet Aryan, who is more than just a star to him. ‘Woh duniya hai meri,’ he tells his parents and the world. 
 
After haggling his way to Mumbai, Gaurav finds out that things aren’t as rosy as he pictured them to be and ends in an unfortunate meet with his hero that ends in heartbreak and ultimately paves the way for revenge which sees the two fighting across London, Croatia and ultimately, Delhi. 
 
Aryan and Gaurav meet at various times during the length of the movie, but their first meeting in jail blows your mind away with the tone that it sets. This is no happy go lucky story of a fan who goes to any length to meet his star and gets his wish fulfilled; but instead is the dark, gripping and goosebump-inducing tale of an obsessive fan who thinks his hero should be punished for breaking a fan's heart. 
 
As has already been pointed out, the first half of the movie scores over the second (which bears an unusual resemblance to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=SHERLOCK&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Sherlock’</a>s Season 2 finale when Moriarty goes about systemically destroying Sherlock’s reputation), but that hardly means that the second half doesn’t have you fixated to your seat (unlike what <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=KRK&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">KRK</a> would like you to believe). 
 
 
 
And, a large part of that credit goes to the two chase sequences. The first, shot in picturesque Dubrovnik highlights the irony of the superstar pursuing the fan, who on the other doesn’t want to be alone his hero, despite the opportunity landing on lap and despite it being the only thing he’s wanted since 25 years. 
 
Tables have turned. 
 
The last chase sequence, which also sets the ground for the climax is to say the least- unforgettable. 
 
It could have ended with an almost happy ending that Bollywood is notorious for but the film’s writer Habib Faisal means business and had other plans. 
 
 
 
Instead, he pens an ending that will shock you, guilt you and leave you conflicted about who to root for- and that in itself tells you enough about the brilliance of this movie. I was rooting for Shah Rukh Khan, the actor and he didn’t disappoint at all. 
 
Khan in and as FAN steals the show with the performance of a lifetime. Though, he plays the of Aryan with ease, it's his performance as the creepy fan Gaurav that hits the right notes, forcing you to remember his anti-hero avatar of the 90s. No song or heroine is needed as he puts up an enjoyable one-man act that is almost perfect. 
 
Habib Faisal’s screenplay is worthy of a lot of awards and Maneesh Sharma doesn’t just direct a movie or just tell a story- he gives us an experience, that will be fondly remembered, time and again. 
 
Do whatever you will, but don’t miss this movie. (and the flashes of the SRK we loved in Darr)

The <keyword id="103144" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karni-Sena">Karni Sena</keyword>, which protested against Bollywood film "Padmaavat" over historic facts last year, has now asked the producers of "Prithviraj", an upcoming movie featuring Akshay Kumar, not to tamper with such facts. Members of the outfit, led by its national president Mahipal Singh Makrana, staged a stir at the shooting of the film in Jamwaramgarh village, near here, on Saturday and asked the director, Chandra Prakash, to stop the shooting. Prakash assured them that there was no tampering with historic facts in the film's script. However, the Karni Sena demanded a written assurance. Akshay Kumar was not shooting when the Karni Sena members staged the protest on Saturday. "We held discussions with the director, Chandra Prakash, regarding the film's script today. We told him that no tampering with historic facts will be tolerated," Makrana said on Monday. "Prithviraj Chauhan should not be portrayed as a lover in the film. The director has assured us that there is no such thing in the movie but we want a written assurance," he said. He’s not a Khan or Kapoor neither does he have the backing of Yashraj or Dharma, but what he does have is magic. Magic that connects all of his movies to the audiences’ hearts, echoing laughs and then sprints for the box-office. Shetty will ensure this will be a movie like no other. 
 
3. Action! Action! Action!: Rohit Shetty’s movies may or may not have storylines but what they have in abundance are action scenes. And, boy does the man know action. Shetty has come a long way from just being the man who ‘blows up cars’ and believe us, the jaw-dropping action sequences in <keyword id="1665132" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dilwale">Dilwale</keyword> will be worth it all. 
 
4. Pritam’s tunes: The Dilwale soundtrack is straight out of a dream. While Janam Janam has given us back what we craved the most- the melodious and soul-stirring voice of Arijjit Singh, Tukur Tukur and Manma Emotion Jaage Re has got our feet tapping. And, who can forget <keyword id="3140519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gerua">Gerua</keyword>? Only if we had SRK to sing that to us. Sigh! 
 
5. The locales: The film has been extensively shot in Bulgaria while Iceland and a host of other sceneic locations also make guest appearances. So, hold your breath for scenic locations that you’ll be compelled to add on your travel list!
