The December 24, 1999 hijack of the Indian Airlines flight is getting a series treatment at Netflix with <keyword id="19913032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anubhav-sinha" source="keywords">Anubhav Sinha</keyword> attached as creator and director. The show is titled "IC 814: The Kandhar Hijack" and stars <keyword id="19901508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vijay-varma" source="keywords">Vijay Varma</keyword>, Patralekha, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Amrita Puri, and Anupam Tripathi. According to the makers, the series revolves around "the 24th December 1999 hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 which was en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi. It was taken to Kandahar. The hijack lasted seven days and while the crew and passengers suffered, officers back home tried to find a solution to bring them home." Sinha, known for films such as "Mulk", "Article 15" and "Bheed", said it was a responsibility to be as authentic as possible while working on the series. "When I started doing research, almost everyone remembers a few things about the hijack, and what all happened during the process. I realised it is a very complex story and a lot of things happened in those seven days and not many people know about it. "I met a lot of officers, passengers, the pilot, and there was a lot more to share. We have put it all in the show... We had to make it factually correct and yet dramatic and engaging... It was an interesting process," the director said at the Next on Netflix event here. Sinha added Monika <keyword id="20775712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shergill" source="keywords">Shergill</keyword>, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, had promised him that the shooting of the series will conclude within eight months but it went on for two years. Shergill described the show as a "thrilling, propulsive rendition of the longest hijacking in the history of aviation in the world". "When we started out on this story, it took us a while to get down to actually making it in the right way. It was a journey for us because it is such a journalistic sort of piece, but it is such a large story of human interest and it had to be told in the most dramatic and thrilling fashion," Shergill told PTI. Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Pooja Gor, Kanwaljit Singh, Aditya Srivastava, <keyword id="19983483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sushant-singh" source="keywords">Sushant Singh</keyword>, and <keyword id="20361223" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yashpal-sharma" source="keywords">Yashpal Sharma</keyword> also round out the cast of "IC 814: The Kandhar Hijack". Netflix announces series on 1999 Kandahar hijack, Anubhav Sinha to direct show

India's 1983 <keyword id="22177" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-cup">World Cup</keyword> hero <keyword id="90309" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yashpal-Sharma">Yashpal Sharma</keyword>, who was admired for being a gutsy middle-order batsman at the peak of his prowess, died on Tuesday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest here. He was 66 and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. "Yes, <keyword id="50372" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yashpal">Yashpal</keyword> is no more with us. We just received the information from his family," a former India teammate of Yashpal confirmed to . According to sources, Yashpal collapsed at home after returning from his morning walk here. In his international career, Yashpal played 37 Tests, scoring 1606 runs, and 42 ODIs in which he made 883. He also picked up one wicket each in the two formats to his credit. He was known for his gutsy attitude and his stroke-filled half century in the semifinal against England in the 1983 campaign at the Old Trafford will forever be etched in the public memory. He was also a national selector during early part of 2000s. Former India captain Dilip <keyword id="31910" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vengsarkar">Vengsarkar</keyword> expressed shock at his teammate's demise. The 1983 squad had met on the sidelines of a book launch here couple of weeks ago. "It is unbelievable. He was the fittest among all of us. I had asked him that day when we met how about his routine. He was a vegetarian, teetotaller, used to have soup for his dinner and very particular about his morning walks. I am just shocked," Vengsarkar told . "As a player, he was a proper team man and a fighter. I fondly remember the 1979 Test against Pakistan in Delhi. We both had a partnership which helped us save the game. I knew him since my university days. Still can't believe it," he added. In <keyword id="3028" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranji-trophy">Ranji Trophy</keyword>, where he represented three teams -- Punjab, Haryana and Railways --, Yashpal played 160 matches amassing 8,933 runs which included 21 centuries with a highest score of 201 not out. He was an umpire too and stood in a couple of women's ODIs. The multi-faceted former player also served as coach of the <keyword id="2233636" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh-Ranji">Uttar Pradesh Ranji</keyword> team. "He told me that day we met that I had lost weight. We had a great reunion. I remember the very first game in the 1983 World Cup playing the mighty West Indies with those fast bowlers, he set the agenda and we won that game," said former teammate Kirti Azad. "He was again fantastic in the semifinal hitting Bob Willis for a six. Nowadays people say (Ravindra) Jadeja hits stumps regularly but so did Yashpal. He was a livewire on the field and would hit stumps all the time," he recalled.  Zee TV is known to give some of the best talents to the <keyword id="1943887" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-entertainment">Indian entertainment</keyword> industry. Be it <keyword id="7185" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Shreya-Ghoshal">Shreya Ghoshal</keyword>, <keyword id="5293" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sunidhi-Chauhan">Sunidhi Chauhan</keyword> or <keyword id="2006" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kunal-Ganjawala">Kunal Ganjawala</keyword> in terms of playback singing or <keyword id="2403452" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Salman-Yussuf-Khan">Salman Yussuf Khan</keyword> and <keyword id="339934" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Dharmesh-Yelande">Dharmesh Yelande</keyword> in terms of dancing, it has never failed to impress with the talent it finds from the hidden corners of India. 
 
However, on one front, the channel has not been very successful. 
 
India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj is a reality series in which the channel invites contestants from all over India (and sometimes abroad) who wish to become actors in the film industry. The contestants undergo several trainings in acting, speech, dancing and overall attitude, and perform in front of judges every week, followed by the elimination based on votes. 
 Although the first season of the series received a wide fan following because of being a one of its kind show, and most of the final 32 contestants have become known faces in Indian television, the winners of the subsequent seasons could not even get a blink-and-miss appearance in any major <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> movie. 
 The first season was won by <keyword id="21729" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sarwar-Ahuja">Sarwar Ahuja</keyword> and <keyword id="516699" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Aditi-Sharma">Aditi Sharma</keyword>. As per the contract, they both were cast in a movie called Khanna &amp; Iyer, which came in 2007, three years after they were judged the winners. Even though the movie had seasoned actors like Manoj Pahwa, Mushtaq Khan and <keyword id="90309" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Yashpal-Sharma">Yashpal Sharma</keyword> in supporting roles, the movie tanked at box office. 
 
Sarwar Ahuja, who hails from Hyderabad, went on to do 4 films that went unnoticed at the box office. He was also seen in some television shows like Keshav Pandit, Jyoti, Punar Vivah and the latest, Hum Ne Li Hai... Shapath. 
 
Aditi Sharma, on the other hand, has had a pretty decent Bollywood career so far. Although her first film failed to leave a mark at BO, she was praised for her acting skills in every other film that she did, namelyBlack &amp; White, Mausam and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. She is also a known face in the Telugu film industry, as well as the Indian advertising space. 
 
The other contestants who could not win the show but managed to make a place in the hearts of viewers can also be seen doing leading and supporting roles in television shows. Some of them are Yuvika Chaudhary, Mohit Chadda, Ankita Lokhande, Sudeepa Singh, Shraddha Arya, Naman Shaw, Bharat Chawda, Bhoumik Sampat, Priti Amin, Himanshu Malhotra and Abbas Khan. 
 The second season, however, is the reason why we have our eyebrows raised over the success of the show. Blame it either on the marketing and advertising of the series or the bad luck of the contestants, but the show never got the viewership that its predecessor enjoyed. The winners, <keyword id="17982" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sabina-Sheema">Sabina Sheema</keyword> and <keyword id="2403455" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Piyush-Chopra">Piyush Chopra</keyword>, are unheard names in the industry, even after 7 years since the show was aired. 
 
Now, the third season, which starts airing today, is coming after 7 years of its predecessor. Although there is no big buzz amongst the audience as of yet, it might be a welcome change from other reality shows occupying the tellyspace if it brings good contestants and focuses on showing their transformation.
