In order to expand its market share in India, <keyword id="108828" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Motorcycle">Honda Motorcycle</keyword> &amp; Scooter is looking to roll out at least ten two-wheeler models in 2015. Presently, the company sells more than 20 motorcycle and scooter models in the country. Today, it launched CB Unicorn 160 motorcycle model. 
 "CB Unicorn 160 despatches will begin in the third week of January, so it would be our first model of 2015. During the course of next year we plan to launch over ten models," <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> Motorcycle and <keyword id="149019" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scooter-India">Scooter India</keyword> (<keyword id="121221" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="HMSI">HMSI</keyword>) President and CEO Keita Muramatsu said. 
 
“Out of over ten product launches planned for the next year, seven would be completely new platforms while others would be upgrades of the existing models,” he added. 
 
Talking about low cost bikes in the country, Muramatsu said, "We are working on two models, a bike and a scooter, but there is no definite time frame set for the project. It is not easy to launch low cost bikes. I have learnt that in the last three years. It is not easy to go for cost reduction when more technology is needed. In the last three years the cost of production has gone up. Even our in-house cost has gone up by 15% over the last year.” 
 Talking about CB Unicorn 160, Muramatsu said that Honda is looking to strengthen its portfolio in 150-180cc segment. "This segment is the fastest growing segment in the motorcycle segment so it is important for us to be present in this style segment. We already have significant presence in the commuter segment," said HMSI Vice President (Sales &amp; Marketing) <keyword id="1790760" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="YS-Guleria">YS Guleria</keyword> said. 
 
At present, HMSI holds a market share of about 20% in the segment.

Honda Plans To Launch At Least 10 Two-wheelers In 2015

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=hyundai+motor+india">Hyundai Motor India</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=honda+motorcycle">Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India</a> have brought changes in production of their vehicles in demand. 
 
Hyundai is making way to manufacture more <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=creta">Creta</a> SUVs in place of entry-level Eon hatchback. Meanwhile, Honda Motor has shifted focus from motorcycles to scooters like Dream Neo, Yuga, etc. 
 
Following the shift, Hyundai’s Creta already jumped to the leadership position in the SUV space within three months of its launch. Creta’s production has been ramped up by 50% from 5,000 units planned earlier to almost 7,500 units a month. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+activa">Honda's Activa</a> has remained the No. 1 two-wheeler model for the third consecutive month in August. 
 
"We are changing our product mix as per the customer demand. That helps us in maximising productivity and profitability," Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India, told ET. 
 
Hyundai has over 54,000 bookings for Creta since June and the waiting period is of more than six months. 
 
The local demand is so high that Hyundai has deferred exports of Creta by a few months. 
 
Talking about <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=two-wheelers">two-wheelers</a>, Honda's Activa accounts for almost one in every two scooters sold. 
 
Honda sold more than one million units of Activa in the April-August period. 
 
YS Guleria, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooters India, said the company invested in its factory last year to bring in flexibility of eight lakh units annually.

With this as a base and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=modi">Narendra Modi’s</a> ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=make+in+india">Make in India’</a> initiative as catalyst, the automobile sector is expected to generate up to $300 billion in annual revenues by 2026, contributing over 12 % to the nation's gross domestic product. 
The Automotive Mission Plan 2016-26 was unveiled with high hopes. However concerns on high taxes and the absence of key reforms like the goods and service tax in a sluggish economy could hurdle the growth. 
 
India’s automotive industry is expected to grow over 70 million units a year by 2026, the project indicates. . The AMP is aimed at mapping the progress of the country's automobile industry and setting its goals over the next decade. Around 23 million vehicles were produced in India in the year ended on March 31, 2015. The industry is estimated to be worth $74 billion now. 
 
"The biggest challenge (to achieve the aim) is going to be of infrastructure. In India, the second biggest cost that we have to bear is in logistics and transportation, which is about 15 %," said Ravindra Pisharody, executive director, commercial vehicles, at Tata Motors. "However, the projection made is quite achievable." 
 
 As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the key achievements are investments in excess of Rs 1,60,000 crore and creation of jobs - the target is 35 million by the end of 2016. Besides, the industry is on course to hit the base-case target of Rs 5,49,000 crore revenue. Speaking at SIAM's annual convention in New Delhi, its president, Vikram Kirloskar, highlighted the potential of the industry, but also the risks it is facing. 
 
"There are speed breakers in the form of slow government policies with no clear roadmap on GST and high taxes imposed on the auto industry ... the cumulative burden of taxes to customers on cars goes up to 84 %, making the industry highly uncompetitive," he said. 
 
Others raised concerns over delayed reforms. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> Executive Director Pawan Goenka said political stalemate was pushing several initiatives and this could derail economic recovery. Hero MotoCorp Chairman Pawan Munjal said: "We hope the government policy frame should improve in tune with time as we move ahead and is move in the right direction in the long-term with key reforms being addressed at the earliest."

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="46362" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Motors">Honda Motors</keyword>, which is swearing by scooters in India, is setting up the world’s largest scooter plant in Gujarat to roll out 12 lakh units annually and achieve leadership position in the Indian two-wheeler market, especially with a growing number of customers shifting to this unisex multi-utility mode that has caught the fancy of many and outpaced almost every other segment. 
 Scooter sales have jumped by 29% in the ongoing fiscal, and now form 27% of the total two-wheeler market from just 8% a decade back. The ever-rising demand for scooters that has far outstripped supply has prompted <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> to set up its first dedicated scooter plant in Ahmedabad. “Even as we have more than doubled our scooter capacity in India, we have not been able to match up with the demand. 
 
After 13 years of its launch, Activa continues to be on ‘waiting’ even as competition has multiplied ten times,” said YS Guleria, Honda VP for marketing and sales in India. Honda had fired the imagination of scooter lovers with its Activa — launched way back in 2001. 
 
“Even though we raised our production with three new scooters, demand still outstrips our estimates. While scooter production has trebled in the past decade, we still have a backlog of 60,000 scooters that should multiply in the festive months ahead,” Guleria added. Honda would spend Rs 1,100 crore on the new plant in Ahmedabad, and expand its range with a few more offerings. 
 
The company, which leads the scooter market with a 53% share in the domestic market, would have two assembly lines for scooters, which would create 3,000 more jobs. The fourth plant would enhance its cumulative production capacity in India to 58 lakh units by 2015-16, including 16 lakh from its first plant in Haryana, 12 lakh from the one in Rajasthan, and 18 lakh from the Karnataka plant. 
 
The sales from its Indian subsidiary have already climbed to the second spot for Honda’s two-wheeler business worldwide, and it believes that the fourth plant would help India become its top global market. Honda’s decision for a dedicated scooter plant is backed by an overwhelming response to its five scooter brands which have been runaway successes in India. 
 
In fact, all big auto companies — <keyword id="6357252" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hero-MotoCorp">Hero MotoCorp</keyword>, <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword>, Yamaha, TVS Motors and M&amp;M — are planning to expand in an effort to cash in on the exploding demand. They have gained from a surge in sales in the first quarter that has helped the segment post record high sales of 1.01 million units in the April-June ended period. Scooters grew 23% to sell 3.60 million units in the fiscal ended March. 
 
Analystssaid that the new generation automatic scooters, that are unisex in nature and are fuel efficient, have helped them grow manifold over the more traditional roughand-tough bikes. “Going by the shift, they (scooters) are expected to corner a third of the market,” said Deepesh Rathore, director at EMMAAA , a Delhibased consultancy firm.
