A Chinese automaker has tested a two-seater air taxi at Skydive Dubai, joining the long list of companies working on making flying cars a reality. Chinese company Xpeng Aeroht has completed the first flight of the Xpeng X2, a two-seater electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The test was conducted at GITEX Global, a tech show in the United Arab Emirates. The Xpeng X2 was tested after obtaining approval from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and was witnessed by over 150 people. "We are making step-by-step (moves) to the international market. First, we selected Dubai city because Dubai is the most innovative city in the world”, Minguan Qiu, general manager of Xpeng Aeroht. The Xpeng X2 aims to beat traffic and fly to reach your destination quickly. In the future, it will offer an affordable alternative to using helicopters to travel within the city. Xpeng conducted a 90-minute unmanned test of the X2, which was described as an "important base for the next generation of flying cars” by the company. With the test, the X2 has become the first to pass the assessment in Dubai in the specific weight class. <div type="image" title="0183c6f0591c828c24d32c9e253d05b5" msid="94808448" hostid="261" sizebytes="59082" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Xpeng X2&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The two-seater flying car uses eight propellers – two at each corner of the vehicle. Like a helicopter, the X2 can take off vertically and does not require a runway. The X2 reportedly offers two modes – manual and autonomous. While using the autonomous mode, passengers can experience a flying experience just by using start, return and landing operations. The flying car has been designed to suit low-altitude city flights and short-distance journeys in the city. It will be a long time before such air taxis are launched commercially. You may soon be able to beat the traffic by using a flying car

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Chinese electric vehicle-maker <keyword id="6762613" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="xpeng" source="Orion">Xpeng</keyword> is planning to mass produce a flying car by 2024.</li><li>The flying car is being developed by Xpeng affiliate, HT Aero.</li></ul>Chinese electric-vehicle startup Xpeng introduced a flying car over the weekend, which the company says it plans to mass produce by 2024.The Xpeng X2 vehicle is being developed by affiliate <a href="https://www.reuters.com/technology/xpeng-backed-flying-car-startup-raises-500-mln-2021-10-19/">HT Aero,</a> a flying car startup, which raised over $500 million in its latest funding round last week.The low-altitude flying car has a steering wheel for driving on roads as well as a single lever for flight modes, according to <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/23/top-highlights-from-xpengs-2021-tech-day/">TechCrunch.</a>According to a <a href="https://www.xiaopeng.com/news/company_news/4043.html?forcePlat=h5">Xpeng website post,</a> the X2 features rotors that can be folded away when the car is operating on roads and expanded when the vehicle is flying. It can seat two people. Xpeng is touting the flying car for use in urban settings, like going from the airport to the office. The vehicle has a maximum flight time of 35 minutes.The NYSE-listed electric-vehicle maker plans to sell the car at a price point below 1 million Chinese yuan ($157,000), according to <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/23/top-highlights-from-xpengs-2021-tech-day/">Techcrunch,</a> citing CEO He Xiaopeng.Also known as electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, such air taxis are not commercially available yet, but a study released in July by credit broker <a href="https://www.pentagon-group.co.uk/news/how-much-will-flying-cars-cost">Pentagon Motor Group</a> estimated the first flying cars would cost more than £535,831 ($738,000).Flying cars have captured the attention of vehicle makers and investors, with giants like <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/hyundai-accelerates-flying-car-efforts-offer-services-around-vehicles-coo-2021-06-14/">General Motors, Toyota, and Hyundai</a> among those in the race.
