Mi stores are <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword>’s <keyword id="6370284" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Exclusive">exclusive</keyword> offline retail stores that allow Mi fans to experience and purchase Xiaomi’s latest products under one roof. Now, it may seem a tad bit small from the massive experience zones in China but it's a start. Another reason why Xiaomi did not go for a large store is also due to the limited products that are available in the country. It's been only two years for the company in India and it has been mostly their phones that have been extremely popular. The first Mi Home store in Bengaluru in India, which will open to public from 20th May, will house Xiaomi’s range of products already available in India (online) including smartphones, power banks, headphones, fitness bands, air purifiers as well as other ecosystem products launched in India. Upcoming Mi Home stores will be located in other metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. Select Mi Home stores will also have an additional zone where fans can experience the larger Xiaomi portfolio. In addition to Mi Home stores, Xiaomi will continue to expand its offline presence with retailers and distributors in the country through its Direct to Retail (DTR) model, which will help Xiaomi to maintain price parity between products sold across both its online and offline channels.

<keyword id="3315394" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="demonetisation">Demonetisation</keyword> has hit the mobilephones sector hard and this has led to slowdown at many manufacturing plants. One of the worst affected due to note ban is <keyword id="6354671" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Foxconn">Foxconn</keyword>, the world's largest contract manufacturer. 
 
Post demonetisation, it has send its workers either on paid leave or have put many on bench because of slowdown in activity. 
 
As per reports, Foxconn has sent around one-fourth of its 8,000 factory workers to go on paid leave for two weeks as the production has been slashed by half. 
 Foxconn makes devices for <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword>, Oppo, Gionee, Infocus, Nokia, <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword>, etc. 
 
“It has kept nearly 1,700 of its workforce on the bench, or on forced leave for two weeks during which they will get paid but the number of days would be cut from their earned leaves. Benching may continue if production - directly related to consumer demand - does not come to the 2 million a month levels by January,” a senior industry executive aware of Foxconn's manufacturing details told ET, asking not to be named. 
 
As majority of the mobilephone purchases are made through cash, the note ban and cash crunch has affected the sales. 
 
Mobilephone companies such as Intex, Lava and Karbonn are planning to cut around 10% of their workforce as inventory is piling up. 
 
As per reports, Lava is shutting down its plant. 
 
"The four plants in Sri City (Andhra Pradesh) are operating at 1.2 million capacity a month, down from 2.5 million that it has," said the same senior industry executive. 
 
Foxconn did not respond to ET's query seeking confirmation. 
 
"The first week of December has been really bad and now we're thinking of cutting production and deferring imports of semi-knocked down (SKD) kits," Unnikrishnan M Thazhath, product head at Intex Technologies, told ET. 
 
Sources at Karbonn told ET the company may fire 1,200 to 2,000 people soon. 
 
Micromax has already slowed production in Rudrapur and Telangana facilities. 
 
As per IDC, feature phone sales were set to drop 24.6% in Oct-Dec quarter sequentially, while smartphone sales are expected to fall by 17.5%, expect demand to normalise by mid-February to March.

As compared to last year, the sales of smartphones increased, by both value and volume, this festive season. The sales went up on huge demand for smartphones in Rs 20,000-category. The smartphone sales increased by minimum 40%. 
 
The upbeat sales has set a trend for the quarter ending December, which typically makes up for nearly a fourth to a fifth of annual revenue for the industry. This is a relief after a tepid first half this year. 
 “Compared to last year's <keyword id="188" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diwali">Diwali</keyword>, we saw an increase of 40 per cent in actual sales by volume, as per consumer activations, for <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> smartphones, and if we include Yu, sales were up 60 per cent,” <keyword id="400990" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Micromax-Informatics">Micromax Informatics</keyword> chief marketing officer Subhajit Sen told ET. 
 People with knowledge in this sector said that <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>’s mobile phone sales saw an increment of about 40%by value and consumer electronic’s sales had a risen sale of about 30%. <keyword id="6366627" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Intex">Intex</keyword> and <keyword id="145729" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karbonn">Karbonn</keyword> also had an higher sales by 14 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively, while players such as <keyword id="6367990" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Panasonic">Panasonic</keyword>, <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> and LeEco, which have comparatively smaller bases, saw their sales more than double this Diwali against last year. 
 
The rise seen in sales during this season is said to be because of pent-up consumer demand coupled with a number of model launches by top tier as well as new entrant Chinese brands. Enabling 4G phones to allow Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and higher purchasing power due to good monsoon this year, acted as key catalysts. 
 
"This resulted in a 125 per cent growth in smartphone sales during Diwali compared to FY15-16,” Ravinder Zutshi, chairman of the mobile and communications council at CEAMA, the consumer electronics manufacturing association, told ET. 
 
There was an increase seen in the sales of phones in the range the Rs 8,000-20,000 and increased number of people entered the Rs 10,000-12,000,Rs 17,000-18,000 and the Rs 15,000 price points. 
 
"So, consumers in the sub-Rs 10,000 price segments ended up spending more and moving to one of these price bands, thus expanding share of the mid-segment. This was not the case last year,” a chief executive at one of the leading retail chains in India told ET. 
 
The strong demand during the festive season this year brings some relief to an industry which has seen smartphone sales losing pace in the first half of the year as fewer consumers switched from featurephones to smartphones, forcing analysts to lower their smartphone sales expectations in 2016 by as much as 17 per cent.

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=xiaomi">Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi</a> is mulling to sell its mobilephones through its own <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ecommerce">e-Commerce</a> platform, <keyword id="2686096" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mi-com">Mi.com</keyword>. 
 
Though it has no immediate plans to trim offerings with retail partners <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart">Flipkart</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amazon">Amazon</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>, but <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> wants to grow its e-Commerce business too. 
 "Xiaomi is keen to sell more products in India through Mi.com and grow its ecommerce business. The company would scale up Mi.com without artificially constraining sales through partner sites like <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, Amazon and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>,” Manu Jain, India operations head, told ET. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Get-The-Xiaomi-Chrome-App-To-Buy-Mi3-In-India/articleshow/40391605.cms">Xiaomi's Mi Store app</a>, which was launched in July on Google Play, is gaining popularity and has been downloaded over a million times in barely two months. 
 
The Mi Store app allows people to browse and buy Xiaomi devices on the go. 
 
Over 90% of Xiaomi's products in India are sold online, majorly through partner sites. In China, roughly 70% of its sales are online and primarily through Mi.com. 
 
Xiaomi's step to promote sales through Mi.com comes ahead of its plans to manufacture in India in the next two years.

Soon after <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> has created ripples across the tech ambit for having sold 2.12 million phones in 12 hours, Indian mobilephone maker <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> is also planning to walk the proven path. As per a report by The Economic Times, Micromax is introducing '<keyword id="2437759" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="flash-sale">flash sale</keyword>' to its online retail strategy as the country's second largest handset maker looks to maintain its break-neck growth rate and take competition such as Xiaomi and <keyword id="11148" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Motorola">Motorola</keyword> head-on. 
	 
	Micromax chief Vineet Taneja told The Economic Times, the phone makers will offer exclusive products in different price ranges with online retailers Flipkart, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>. Micromax has clocked 54% jump in its revenues for the year ended March 2015 at around 10,000 crore. 
	 
	"Apart from creating a buzz, it (flash sale) also helps in planning our supplies better. It gives us an estimate of how much stock we have," Taneja added while speaking to the financial daily. 
	 
	Micromax has recently launched Canvas Spark, a Rs4,999 smartphone, to be sold exclusively on Snapdeal through flash sales starting April 29. The company plans similar deals with Amazon and Flipkart. 
	 
	However, the company will continue to sell its existing product portfolio across the online portals and through offline stores. 
	 
	While this is the first time Micromax has not explored flash sale on its own , its subsidiary <keyword id="2602309" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yu-Televentures">Yu Televentures</keyword> holds flash sales of its Yu smartphone every Thursday and has sold over 200,000 units so far. 
	 
	With the flash sale and tie-ups with eCommerce majors, Taneja said Micromax aims to extend its lead in the mass smartphone market, or sub- 7,000 segment, which is the fastest growing price segment. 
	 
	The firm looks to maintain its 50% growth rate this fiscal year through new launches, online flash sales and by ramping up local manufacturing. 
	 
	Taneja said contribution of the mass market segment to overall volumes had increased to 60% in January-March quarter, from 50% in April-June 2014. While the overall smartphone market grew 17% over this period, the mass market segment doubled, contributing 45%-50% by value, he added.
