The race between <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> and <keyword id="2210217" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="oneplus">OnePlus</keyword> to reign supreme in the flagship-killer space is heating up. First we have OnePlus coming out and saying that there will be no price increase for their most loved "One: smartphone in India (Rs 18,999 and Rs 21,999 for 16GB and 64GB respectively). It is now turn of Mi brand to make its move and it has decided to take the price cut route for its Mi 4, which is now available across the country at Rs 17,999 (16GB) and Rs 21,999 (64GB). 
 
The same has been confirmed by company's recent <keyword id="6354904" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tweet">tweet</keyword> post which emphasizes on the 'price' factor, thereby making it attractive to people who were blown away by the proposition on offer from OnePlus.

Mi 4 comes in a 5-inch form factor equipped with Full-HD resolution display combined with Corning one-glass solution (OGS). Under the hood, it packs a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage running on MiUi 6 version. The phone weighs 149 grams and is just 8.9 mm thick, which makes it compact and light to carry around.

The phone comes fitted with a 13MP rear snapper and 8MP shooter on the front. It comes loaded with a 3080mAh Li-Po battery that can be charged up to 60% in less than 45 minutes (we found it to be true). On the connectivity front, Mi4 is a single-SIM device offering 2G/3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS among others. 
 
It isn't surprising to see Xiaomi cut down the price for Mi 4 in the country. Their quick moves to first; make it available across offline stores, then ditching its exclusive Flipkart deal to sell via Snapdeal and <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> as well clearly highlighted their wrong approach with the product in India. But now with its price and varied availability options, Mi 4 has somewhat taken over from OnePlus One.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Xiaomi, the red-hot Chinese startup that is taking Asia by storm, has just announced an impressive new smartphone.The company held a product launch outside of its native China for the first time, and revealed the Xiaomi Mi 4i on stage in India, the successor to its previous Mi 4 phone.With a 5-inch HD screen and strong technical specs, it's an attractive device for those in developing markets, especially considering its price - just 12,999RS, around $205 or £136.Xiaomi isn't a familiar name to most in the West because it has only relatively recently expanded from China, and still has no presence in Europe or North America. But in just five years, it has exploded to become the most valuable startup in the world - worth an estimated $45 billion.The company has grown so quickly off the back of its famously devoted fan-base, for which the company frequently throws parties and flash sales. At the Mi 4i launch, executive Hugo Barra thanked the fans who apparently travelled from all across India, and "took time off from work, took time off from school just to be here."Criticism has been levelled at Xiaomi over the design of its products, some of which look similar to Apple's. <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/xiaomi-to-jony-ive-try-our-phones-before-you-accuse-us-of-theft-2014-10">Apple design chief Jony Ive has even labelled them "theft," though Barra disputes this</a>. The Mi 4i launch was marred by the livestream crashing for most of the announcement - much like Apple's have done previously - leading some to quip that this is just another example of Xiaomi's imitation of the Cupertino company.<div><div></div></div>The Mi 4i won't be available in the West. Xiaomi doesn't intend to expand into the west for a "few years," according to Barra. But its low price point make it an attractive buy for consumers in the emerging markets it is targeting like India and China. (It is already the biggest smartphone company in China, ahead of both Apple and Samsung.)In these markets, Xiaomi poses a serious threat to Google: While it uses Android, it uses a forked version of the operating system that doesn't come bundled with Google's services. And its devices are even cheaper than the average price of an Android device. But Apple is at risk too: Xiaomi, almost uniquely for an Android manufacturer, has developed a fanbase as loyal as Apple's own. Apple's biggest rival in Asia just announced a very impressive new phone

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image">REUTERS/Jason LeeXiaomi CEO Lei Jun introduces the Mi4.</div></div></div>Xiaomi, the buzzy Chinese startup that makes high-quality smartphones and sells them for half the cost of the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, unveiled its new flagship phone, the Mi4, in China last week. 
The Mi4 dominated the news cycle for much of the morning: A smartphone with a sharp 5-inch screen and powerful specs that you can buy for just $320. That's quite a deal.
But the glow didn't last long. By the time the Western press got ahold of Xiaomi's announcement, the inevitable cries that yet another Apple copycat had emerged began to overshadow the news that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/xiaomi-phone-sales-2014-7">fastest-growing smartphone maker in the world</a> had a new flagship phone that was all but guaranteed to sell like hotcakes.
Hugo Barra, the ex-Google executive who's been working for Xiaomi since last fall, denied the accusations. He <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/22/5925753/hugo-barra-xiaomi-china-interview">told The Verge</a> shortly after the Mi4 announcement that all the howling about Xiaomi copying Apple were just "sweeping sensationalist statements" from folks who hadn't spent enough time with Xiaomi products to realize they're actually very different.
This set off <a href="http://daringfireball.net/">John Gruber of Daring Fireball</a> who has been curating evidence that Xiaomi isn't just influenced by Apple, it appears to literally copy and paste Apple's work and pass it off as its own.
During the Mi4 event, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun (who, by the way, is known for dressing in black shirts, jeans, and sneakers just like Steve Jobs did), introduced a new fitness band that was teased with a "One more thing..." slide, a tactic Apple made famous back in the day when it had a surprise announcement.

Finally, it's tough to deny that the Mi4 looks very similar to the iPhone 5S:

<div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image">Xiaomi</div></div>Things get even more amusing if you dig through more of Xiaomi's marketing materials. <a href="http://daringfireball.net/linked/2014/07/25/xiaomi-flower">As Gruber pointed out</a>, the website that shows off the Mi3's camera uses photos from sources like National Geographic and copyrighted photos from professional photographers on Flickr and passes them off as images taken with the phone.

Given that Xiaomi was busted for ripping pages right out of Apple's playbook, we thought it was worth giving Barra another shot to explain.
But Barra remained firm in his original statement that Xiaomi doesn't copy Apple. We communicated via email, so it was tough to tell if Barra winked before he dug his heels in and replied: "I always mean what I say." 
Still, Xiaomi is an incredible success story. Its phones are only available in a handful of countries right now, but it has plans to expand to more emerging markets like Brazil and India later this year. Plus, Xiaomi already sells more phones in China than Apple does and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-versus-xiaomi-2014-7">poses a very real threat to Samsung</a>, the largest smartphone maker in the world, because its Android phones do pretty much the same thing, but cost half as much.
Xiaomi doesn't have any immediate plans to expand to the U.S. or Europe, but <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/30/xiaomis-one-more-thing/">as TechCrunch's Matt Burns pointed out</a>, it's going to have to rethink its marketing strategy and eliminate anything that even smells like copying Apple or other competitors if it wants to stand a chance.

The Mi Mix 4 will be available in Xiaomi’s home market for now at a starting price of CNY 4,999 (₹57,400 approx). The under-display camera on the Mi Mix 4 is “virtually invisible to the eye” according to Xiaomi. The company calls this CUP (Camera Under Panel) technology that offers 400ppi of pixel density and minimises light passing through the screen. Xiaomi also claims that photos and videos captured with the front camera “retain true colors and details.” As for the specifics, it’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the Mi Mix 4. Mi Mix 4 specifications In addition to an under-display camera, the Mi Mix 4 also comes with flagship specifications. Powering the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. The Mi Mix 4 features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also packs a 4,500mAh battery with support for up to 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The rear camera setup on the Mi Mix 4 has three sensors including a primary 108-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with 50x zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens. More features on the Mi Mix 4 include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, a USB Type-C port and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone also comes in a ceramic body in three colour options of black, white and grey. Xiaomi launched more devices alongside the Mi Mix 4. This includes the Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro tablets, the Xiaomi Sound smart speaker, Mi TV Master 77-inch, Mi TV 6 OLED 55-inch and Mi TV OLED 65-inch. All these devices will be available first in China and there’s no word on their global availability yet. Xiaomi debuts its first under-display camera on the Mi Mix 4

The phone has specs that rival top-tier phones like Samsung's Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5S. It has a 5-inch screen and runs a special modified version of Android that Xiaomi uses in all of its phones.
Xiaomi is the buzziest smartphone maker at the moment. It only sells phones in China and a few other emerging markets, but it's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/there-are-only-three-smartphone-makers-that-matter-right-now-2014-7">right up there with Apple and Samsung in terms of popularity</a>. In fact, it sold more phones than Apple in China. Last quarter, the company said it sold 15 million smartphones. It hopes to sell 100 million phones in 2015.
And a lot of its success, like Samsung's, comes from copying Apple's playbook page by page. The company's CEO, Lei Jun, wears blue jeans and black shirts during product launches and demos, just like Steve Jobs did. At first glance, its products look exactly like Apple's gadgets.

During the Mi4 presentation, the company even had a "One more thing..." slide, something Apple was famous for doing back in the day when it had a surprise announcement during keynotes.

The big guys are already feeling the effects of Xiaomi's aggressive growth. Earlier this month, Samsung reported disappointing earnings. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-smartphone-declining-growth-2014-7">Its profits are shrinking</a>, largely thanks to scrappy startups like Xiaomi selling high-end phones for next to nothing. Samsung's best Galaxy phones cost $600 or more. But Xiaomi sells its flagships like the new Mi4 for just $320.
And that's a big problem for Android manufacturers like Samsung. Apple has a great mobile ecosystem with iOS that you can only get on iPhones and iPads, but there isn't a big difference between what a Samsung Android phone can do versus a Xiaomi Android phone. So, why spend twice as much when you can get a high-end gadget that does the same thing for half the price?
So far, it's working for Xiaomi. It may not be massively profitable, but it is eating away at Samsung and, to a degree, Apple in terms of market share in the limited countries its available. Plus, Xiaomi plans to expand to a few more countries like India and Brazil by the end of the year. 
As Samsung fights Apple at the high-end of the market, it's getting hammered on the low-end by Xiaomi. 
It won't last forever, but over the next few years, we're going to see Xiaomi become the new Samsung in terms of volume. Xiaomi probably won't be massively profitable like Samsung is now, but it has already proven that it can have a significant effect on Samsung's business.

Xiaomi to no longer use the ‘Mi’ branding for its products

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=xiaomi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Xiaomi</a> is going to launch its Mi5 in India on Thursday, March 31, almost after a year it launched <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Xiaomi-gets-the-32GB-variant-of-Mi-4i-in-India/articleshow/48174130.cms">Mi4</a>. 
 
The Chinese smartphone maker had recently launched <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-upcoming-Xiaomi-RedmiNote-3/articleshow/51118743.cms">Redmi Note 3</a>. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Xiaomi-Mi-5-and-Mi-5-Pro-are-here/articleshow/51123353.cms">Xiaomi’s Mi5</a> is doing quite good in China as when it was launched, it saw more than 18 million registrations in the first go in China. 
 The <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> Mi 5 will come in 32GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants and sport 5.15-inch 1080p display, 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities and a 4-megapixel selfie camera.

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 to be launched on March 31 for around Rs 27,000

You've probably never heard of Xiaomi, but it's the third-largest smartphone vendor in the world.&#xa0;
The Chinese startup sold over 60 million smartphones last year, and it recently <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/xiaomi-raises-over-1-billion-valuation-exceeds-45-billion-2014-12">raised over $1 billion in funding at a $45 billion valuation</a>.&#xa0;
The company is exploding.
Part of the reason why Xiaomi has been so successful is because it sells high-end phones for about half the price of the competition. For example, a Samsung Galaxy S5 costs about $650. Xiaomi's flagship phone, the Mi4, costs a little over $300.
Xiaomi phones like the Mi4 are nearly impossible to find in the US and other Western countries. They're only sold in China, India, and other emerging markets.
But I found one tucked away at chip maker Qualcomm's booth at the Consumer Electronics Show. This was my first time using the Mi4, and I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype.
A lot of pundits, myself included, have accused Xiaomi of copying Apple's iPhone designs. Jony Ive, Apple's design boss, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jony-ive-calls-design-copies-theft-2014-10">recently called it "theft" when other phone makers copy the look of the iPhone</a>.
I only got to spend a few minutes with the Mi4, but I liked what I saw.
First of all, yes, it does look a lot like the iPhone 5S, especially because of the chamfered aluminum edges. (Apple has moved past that design with the iPhone 6.)
It's also beautiful and made of high-quality materials, unlike the zillions of plasticky Android phones I've used over the years.


On the software side, it runs Android. But this isn't the Android you're probably used to. Xiaomi took Android and modified it to create its own operating system called MIUI.
It's much better looking and more functional than a lot of other Android phone software modifications from companies like HTC, Samsung, and LG.



This is just a knee-jerk reaction, and hardly a full review, but I can already see why people go crazy over Xiaomi phones. The Mi4 feels and functions like a premium product. It's hard to believe it only costs a little over $300.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are expected to be among the first few smartphones to be powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset.  People on social media are posting leaked pictures of this <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> Mi5, which is said to be fully metal and curvier than the earlier one. 
 
Xiaomi Mi 5’s specifications include latest Snapdragon 820 processor, 5.2inch Curved QHD Display, 4GB Ram with 64GB internal memory. 
 
The rear camera of Xiaomi Mi 5 is 20 megapixels and sports 8 megapixel front camera. 
 
The phone will be packed with fingerprint scanner, which is never seen in Xiaomi phones. 
 
The leaked images of Xiaomi Mi 5 also suggest it has a curvy glass. It is speculated the smartphone will be released on February 20, 2016.
