In the early hours of the 4th <keyword id="6362857" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-yoga-day">International Yoga Day</keyword>, a huge crowd gathered in Kota to perform their asanas at a mass yoga camp led by Baba Ramdev, a renowned yogi and co-founder of <keyword id="6356684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="patanjali">Patanjali</keyword> Ayurved. Before long, the crowd ballooned to create a world record at the 105,000 mark for the ‘largest yoga session’ ever. That number isn’t just a headcount but calculated using standardised methods and drone cameras. That being said, reports suggest that the crowd grew up to 200,000 participants by the end of the day. The new record for the largest yoga session is nearly double the previous record of 55,524 people performing yogic asanas in Mysore just last year. Aside from Baba Ramdev, the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, officials from the Guinness World Records as well as 4,500 inspectors were present at the event. With the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day being ‘yoga for peace’, Ramdev expressed the need for people to embrace the three yog mantras of determination, hard work and good nature into their lives.

Basically, the officials who work at the Income Tax department in the city are aiming for the record of performing yoga for 24 hours at a stretch. The clock started at 12AM today (21 June) and will go on till midnight. Since yoga, at least <a href="https://qz.com/1309983/international-yoga-day-ancient-india-didnt-practice-yoga-for-physical-exercise/">originally</a>, isn’t about physical fitness but mental well-being, the participants won’t be exerting themselves continuously but will be performing <keyword id="488407" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="asanas">asanas</keyword> in batches instead. What’s surprising is that the enthusiasm isn’t restricted to the employees. Appropriately being pegged as a ‘yogathon’, the families of the participants have registered as well. The Chief Commissioner stated that the event is completely non-exclusive, so anyone and everyone is welcome to join, including the citizens of the city. One might think that doing yoga for an hour is strenuous, let alone 24 whole hours, but reports indicate that the department has been practising their asanas for over a week now with help from experts. Yoga or <keyword id="190609" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="asana">Asana</keyword>s were not merely what it is perceived today, which that is just a medium to keep us hale and hearty. It meant a lot more to the early Yogis who used an amalgamation of Asana (body positions), Mudra and Pranayama to create a perfected or Sidha body movement having the power to release all sorrows and sufferings of life. 
 
Having its origin almost 26 thousand years ago during the Sat Yuga the existence of this form surfaced more during the Indus Valley Civilization. Though the origin of Yoga is as hazy as the origin of mankind but Archaic Yoga relating to rituals and ceremonies has been found in Vedic Texts and further down Yoga seeped into Buddhism when the great exponent of Jainism, Rishabha emphasised on physical efforts for liberalisation of spirit. 
 From Vedic period and Patanjali to today’s International Yoga day, Yoga has persisted through more than 80 million types of postures. We have inherited only a handful of them- may be less than 50.
