<ul><li>IT major <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> reported nearly 4% year-on-year growth in consolidated net profit at ₹3,087 crore for the March quarter.</li><li>The company hired 45,416 employees in FY22 taking the overall headcount to 2.43 lakh.</li><li>One of the major reasons for significant hiring is because of the continuous rise in attrition rate.</li></ul>The Bengaluru-based information technology (IT) giant Wipro just announced its financial performance in the last three month from January to March where it posted nearly 4% on year growth in consolidated net profit at ₹3,087 crore for the March quarter. The IT firm’s operating margin stood at 17% down 17.6% in the previous quarter. However, Thierry Delaporte, chief executive officer and managing director at Wipro addressed that the operating margins are way above the pre pandemic period. During the quarter, Wipro hired 45,416 employees in FY22 taking the overall headcount to 2.43 lakh. Going ahead for next financial year FY23, it plans to double fresher hiring from over 45,000 in FY22. “We doubled our fresher intake for fiscal year 2022 as compared to previous year. Our plan is to double this again in fiscal year 2023. We have decided to increase the frequency of promotion cycles for 70% of our colleagues from junior bands,” said CEO Thierry Delaporte in a press conference after the earnings result. Wipro to double fresher intake this year, promotions to be faster as employees are still jumping ship in hordes

The company added 30,000 people to its roster between July to September. Wipro to promote 80% of its eligible staff in the next three months — increments will be in line with last year

<ul><li><keyword id="10862" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> — the fourth largest IT services company in India — is planning to promote its 5,000 employees, thanks to the increasing attrition rate during the second quarter. </li><li>The company also rolled out a retention bonus of nearly ₹100,000 to its fresh campus hires. It also offered bonuses to employees with upto three years of experience. </li><li>Wipro added nearly 6,603 employees during the second quarter, taking the headcount to 181,453 from 174,850 in the last quarter. </li><li>The software major reported a net profit of ₹25.5 billion for the second quarter of 2019-20 fiscal. </li></ul>Wipro — the fourth largest IT services company in India — is planning to promote 5,000 of its employees, to check its increasing attrition rate. The technology giant recorded an attrition rate of 17% for the quarter ending in September. “Attrition (rate) has been a good story for us as compared to others. We have given salary hikes and now are looking at a huge number of promotions in the coming quarter. However, it is lower among performers as they get higher bonuses, incentives and salary hikes," Govil added. While auto and textile sectors face troubled waters leading to job losses, the IT sector seems to be rebounding with a positive hiring sentiment. Wipro added nearly 6,603 employees during the second quarter, taking the headcount to 181,453 from 174,850 in the last quarter. Wipro is giving promotions and bonuses to check growing attrition

<ul><li>The Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar is all set to become India’s <keyword id="14279786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="first-digital-airport" source="Orion">first digital airport</keyword>.</li><li>A digital airport will offer paperless and contactless services across all checkpoints in line to its passengers.</li><li>The digital services provided by the NIA will be in line with the central government’s DigiYatra Policy.</li></ul>The Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar, which is currently under construction, is all set to become India’s first digital airport. This aviation hub will offer paperless and contactless services across all checkpoints in line to its passengers. Not only will such an airport eliminate long lines for ID verification, it will also save the effort of printing tickets and boarding passes and fishing them out at multiple checkpoints. Additionally, this will also facilitate self-bag drop and check-in, using facial recognition to identify pax and data recall. Digi Yatra will facilitate paperless travel and avoid identity check at multiple points. To accomplish this, NIA selected global technology firm <keyword id="4553387" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="icad" source="Orion">ICAD</keyword> Holding as its master system integrator (MSI) consultant and partnered with Indian IT major <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> which will act as a sub-consultant to the global tech company. An MSI enables all the technical systems, with all of their disparate parts and pieces to work cohesively and work as designed, throughout its lifespan. ICAD will support NIA with the systems integration design, integration programme management and integration of ICT and airport systems. The airport project is all set to complete by December 2024, said Feroz Mehdi, director at ICAD said at the press conference. The airport will also be environment friendly with zero-emissions. It intends to maximize the use of renewable energy sources such as solar power, and implement processes for water treatment and recycling. The airport also aspires to be a ‘green airport’ as it promised to preserve all the native species. Wipro, ICAD to create India's first digital airport — here are its features

While Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys have started gearing up on the expectations of a rise in attrition, Wipro has added about 12,000 employees in the June quarter alone. It is the highest ever in a decade. The company’s IT services workforce crossed the milestone of 200,000 taking the overall headcount to 209,890. Wipro has added more than 12,000 employees, which is 80% of what it had added in FY21 and highest in the last decade, said Thierry Delaporte, chief executive (CEO) and managing director (MD) of Wipro. Like its peers, Wipro is also expecting the attrition rate to go up and hence it has been hiring aggressively. In fact, it will roll out 30,000 offers for freshers to join in FY22. “Attrition, as I had called out last quarter itself, will see an uptick, which is very much in line with the demand environment in the industry,” said Saurabh Govil, president and chief human resources officer at Wipro. <div type="image" title="Wipro attrition" height="900" width="1200" msid="84445950" hostid="261"></div> He mentioned that 80% of the organisation will go through three promotion cycles in 12 months- December 2020, June 2021 and again in December 2021. Besides, the company has been conducting several employee training activities and distributing bonuses to retain its employees. “We had called out last quarter that we will do a skill based bonuses [sic]… Apart from that, to augment the supply chain, we are doing unprecedented hiring in terms of freshers into the organisation. We will be onboarding 6,000 freshers in September quarter, which is the highest every Wipro has done. And we will be rolling out more than 30,000 offers this year for freshers to join us next year,” added Govil. Wipro delivered exceptional results in the June quarter with its acquisition of Capco finally making it onto the books. The company reported 12.2% sequential growth in revenue, out of which 4.9% came organically, while the rest came from Capco, said Jatin Dalal, chief financial officer at Wipro at a press conference held after the announcement of June quarter financial results. TCS, Infosys, and Wipro hired 2.33 lakh employees in FY22 to tame high attrition

TCS completes its fresher hiring target three months ahead of schedule but it’s not done yet

ever buyout by the Bengaluru-based company. The shares of Wipro have led the IT pack ever since the new chief executive officer (CEO) Thierry Delaporte took charge in June last year. The company made about $2 billion last year from IT services and if Capco delivers the same amount of revenue as it did last year, it could add another $700 million to Wipro’s topline. That’s a 35% bump up a year straight away. Expectations are built up in the stock that has gained about 30% since the Capco deal was announced in early March, and closed in April. <div type="image" title="Wirpo stock price chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="84201479" hostid="261"></div> There is also a lot of apprehension. “The execution risk is further aggravated by a weak growth performance from Capco over the last two years – even after adjusting for the drag due to COVID-19,” said Motilal Oswal in its report dated March 4. “We’re guiding revenue growth of 2% to 4% in the first quarter, outside of Capco and Ampion,” Delaporte had said during the earnings call in April. Wipro has acquired Ampion, an Australia-based provider of cyber security, devops and quality engineering services. The move will strengthen its commitment towards clients and stakeholders in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The acquisition will close in the quarter ending June 30, 2021. Still, he needs to set out indicative timelines for quantified goals, according to Nirmal Bang. “Executing on these priorities will entail a set of changes that will be known over the coming months. After a strong and partly buyback-fuelled rally in the stock price, upsides will be modest,” added Kotak Institutional Equities in its report. Simply put, Wipro’s valuation may have become a little expensive over the past month. Nonetheless, analysts expect to see quicker deals, more acquisitions and traction in digital revenues for Wipro even as they maintain caution. “We await further evidence of execution of Wipro’s refreshed strategy and a successful turnaround from its growth struggles over the past decade before turning more constructive on the stock,” said Motilal Oswal Securities. Wipro’s share price dips by over 6% after earnings — analysts believe it will take a while to catch up to TCS and HCL Technologies

<ul><li><keyword id="501707" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PV-Sindhu">PV Sindhu</keyword> and <keyword id="753181" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baseline-Ventures">Baseline Ventures</keyword>, the agency that handles her, is taking over 20 brands to court for using her name and image on their marketing communications without permission.</li><li>We spoke to Yashwanth Biyyala, Director - Talent and Partnerships, Baseline Ventures who told us how most of these brands have not just flouted rules around the use of an individual's image with her permission, they have also blatantly flouted the Olympics guidelines around advertising. </li></ul>PV Sindhu made the nation proud last week by bringing home a Bronze medal from <keyword id="395647" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tokyo-Olympics">Tokyo Olympics</keyword>, becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. With her win came congratulatory messages on social media, from the government, individuals and even brands who wanted to jump onto the trend, making the most out of the moment. However, Sindhu and Baseline Ventures, the agency that handles the player, is taking over 20 brands to court, for using her name and image without the proper permissions. Baseline Ventures is seeking damages worth Rs 5 crore from each of the brands that have flouted the norms. Officially, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has laid down clear rules about how athletes can communicate with brands during and after the games. The Rule 40 framework, according to the official Olympic website is aimed to enable ‘the Olympic Movement to fund all Olympic teams worldwide, Olympic sports and the Olympic Games themselves.’ The rulebook has clear guidelines about how players can engage with their Non-Olympic Partner personal sponsors. There is also a blackout period that the athletes are supposed to sign before the games. Apart from brands that are IOC)and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) partners, no other brands are allowed to push out communications with players. “Rule 40 clearly mentions that there is a blackout period between July 13 (when the Olympic Village opens) and August 10 (two days after the Closing Ceremony). All athletes have had to give their consent to Rule 40 which clearly states that their brands cannot promote them during this blackout period. In fact, even brands that are paying money to Sindhu are not using her in their marketing during this period. They have not even put out a congratulatory message,” explained Yashwanth Biyyala, Director - Talent and Partnerships, Baseline Ventures. Officially, only brands that are IOC partners, in this case, Bridgestone and <keyword id="6359421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="visa">Visa</keyword>, are allowed to use the player in their communications during the tournament. Also, brands, like Amul, that have tied up with the IOA, are permitted to use the names of athletes. “Even the athletes themselves cannot put out a branded post during this time period. If brands want to put out content around athletes, they have to take a written consent, and none of them have done it. Close to 15 brands officially work with Sindhu, and since they have not taken IOA’s permission, none of them have sent out a single congratulatory post for her. And then we have brands that are blatantly flouting rules, on an individual athlete level as well as the Olympic rules,” added Biyyala. Having sent legal notices to 15 brands, the agency is in the process of sending notices to 5 more brands. The agency is asking the brands to pay Rs 5 crore and also remove the posts that have flouted the norms from their social media handles. The agency has already sent notices to brands including Happydent (<keyword id="135659" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Perfetti-Van-Melle">Perfetti Van Melle</keyword>), Pan Bahar, Eureka Forbes, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Vodafone Idea, MG Motor, UCO Bank, Punjab National Bank, <keyword id="6354731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Fino Payments Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank and <keyword id="5998660" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro-Lighting">Wipro Lighting</keyword> and is in the process of sending notices to a few more brands.

Meanwhile, offering any new freshers to come on board isn’t a part of the plan. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="76995155" title="Infosys is still on the fence when it comes to making work from home a permanent change" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Instead, the companies are looking at lateral hires to fill the gaps where skill is needed to fulfil current deals and projects. Even at Wipro’s chief human resources officer (CHRO) Saurabh Govil claims that lateral hiring never stopped at the company. “We will continue to hire in Q2 based on demand.” “The downward trend in attrition continues. Expected to continue in the next quarter as well,” said HCL Technologies chief human resources officer (CHRO) Apparao VV. “Attrition has significantly come down but we will not be hiring significant numbers for immediate replacement,” he added. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) didn’t hire in Q1FY21 but filled in over 4,500 positions by reskilling, cross-skilling and multiskilling the company’s existing employees. CEO Rajesh Gopinathan claims that learning intensity at the company has increased by nearly 25% between April to June. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="76887172" title="TCS to kickstart lateral hiring and bring back 5% of its employees to offices" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> The company is now revising its freeze on lateral hiring to meet the demand environment. “We decided to open up on the lateral hiring side and have started onboarding new associates into the TCS ecosystem,” said Gopinathan. Indian IT services companies — like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies — has been launching new initiatives for their staff. Infosys, for instance, increased the variable pay for their staffers in the first quarter of 2020-21.
