Benchmark indices started the week with a positive note with <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> reclaiming 60,000-mark on Monday as strong quarterly earnings reported by bellwether companies and a downward movement in the crude oil prices supported investor sentiments. In a see-saw trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 401.04 points or 0.67 per cent to reach the 60,000-level and closed the session at 60,056.10. During intra-day, it hit a high of 60,101.64 and a low of 59,620.11. The broader NSE Nifty ended at 17,743.40, up 119.35 points or 0.68 per cent. According to experts, traders were also cautious due to weak global sentiment amid concerns over growth slowdown and interest rate hikes by major central banks. "The positive market sentiment in the domestic market was boosted by strong earnings reported by heavyweights. "However, the weak global sentiment did raise some concerns midway. But the banking sector played a key role in this upward trend, with sector majors reporting strong earnings," Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services said. Among the Sensex firms, Wipro, Axis Bank, Titan, UltraTech Cement and HDFC Bank, HDFC, HCL Tech and Reliance were the gainers. Reliance shares went up 0.35 per cent after the company on Friday reported its highest-ever quarterly net profit of Rs 19,299 crore in January-March on the back of stronger earnings from the oil and petrochemicals business and steady growth in retail and telecom operations. Bajaj Finance, Infosys, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Maruti were among the laggards. Asian markets saw mixed trends. The Nikkei 225 gained 0.10 per cent, while the Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng fell 0.78 per cent and 0.58 per cent, respectively. European markets were lower with CAC in France sliding 0.17 per cent while London's FTSE 100 was off 0.08 per cent and Germany's DAX was lower by 0.06 per cent. The <keyword id="123399" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-markets" source="Orion">US markets</keyword> ended on a mixed note on Friday. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.21 per cent to $81.49 per barrel. Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,116.76 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. Sensex reclaims 60,000-mark, Nifty rises 120 points

A former <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> employee <keyword id="3089392" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shreya-Ukil">Shreya Ukil</keyword>, who works at the <keyword id="3089577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indias-third-largest-software-company">India’s third largest software company</keyword>'s London office, has filed a suit claiming 1.2 million pounds in damages, alleging that she was subjected to severe sexual harassment by male colleagues, faced gender discrimination, was getting an unequal pay and also faced unfair dismissal. 
 
As per the UK-based The Telegraph, Ukil had alleged that she was subjected to a "deeply predatory, misogynistic culture" at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=wipro">Wipro</a>. 
 Ukil, 39, who worked as the sales and marketing manager, has filed a suit at Central London Employment Tribunal alleging that she was discriminated in terms of her pay in comparison to male colleagues at similar positions. Shreya has also accused <keyword id="1086715" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manoj-Punja">Manoj Punja</keyword>, ex-Wipro VP and former global <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bpo">BPO </a>head at Wipro, who was her manager of influencing her to have an affair with him. Punja had resigned from Wipro last year. 
 
According to an Economic Times report, this case is not the first such instance of sexual harassment against women in the IT industry. Earlier in September, two-thirds of companies on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=nifty">Nifty</a>, a 50-stock benchmark index of the NSE, had reported that out of total 415 cases of sexual harassment in the previous financial year, 80% of these were reported in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=INFORMATION+TECHNOLOGY">information technology</a> (IT) and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BANK">banking </a>firms. 
 
In an email response to ET, Wipro has strongly dismissed the sexual discrimination and harassment allegations from former employee Shreya Ukil. The software exporter termed the allegations as "insidious and defamatory." 
 
Terming accusations made by Ukil as "scurrilous," a Wipro spokesperson told the business daily that both Ukil and former BPO head Manoj Punja were terminated from the company after it was established "beyond reasonable doubt" that both of them had violated the company's code of conduct.

Google Cloud India hires Oracle veteran Mitesh Agarwal

While the new medium, high and very high alert levels system cleared <keyword id="9256445" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-house-of-commons">the House of Commons</keyword> vote on Tuesday to be enforced from Wednesday, more than 40 MPs from Johnson's own <keyword id="107792" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Conservative-party">Conservative Party</keyword> rebelled with their vote against the 10pm curfews imposed on pubs, bars, restaurants and other hospitality settings. On the other end of the spectrum, Opposition Labour Leader Keir Starmer demanded a two to three-week short "circuit breaker" lockdown instead as he accused the government of having "lost control" of the pandemic. "The government's plan simply isn't working - another course is needed," he said. The Opposition demand for a "temporary set of clear and effective restrictions" for the country came as Northern Ireland chose the toughest route of shutdowns to try and control the spread of the virus, which include shutting down schools from Monday. Under the localised rules for the region, hospitality businesses will be limited to takeaway and delivery services for four weeks from Friday after health officials warned infections would rise further if both schools and hospitality premises remained open. "A lot of these decisions will have huge impacts - we're very determined this will be a time-limited intervention," said Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster. Scotland, meanwhile, already has tougher measures in place and Wales has warned that its own "circuit breaker" lockdown preparations were underway. "I'm not announcing it today but I do want people to know we are planning very seriously, so if we do need to do it we'll be in a position to do it and in a position to do it quickly," said Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford. In addition to these restrictions, in areas on high alert - including north-east England, much of the North West and parts of the Midlands, along with West and South Yorkshire - different households are not allowed to mix indoors. Areas on very high alert face extra curbs, with different households banned from mixing indoors or outdoors in hospitality venues or private gardens. Pubs and bars will be closed unless they are serving substantial meals and there is also guidance against travelling in and out of the area. It comes as a further 17,234 coronavirus cases were recorded in the UK this week, while 143 more people have died, taking the death toll from the virus closer to 43,000. Zoomers are already proving themselves to be different from other generations when it comes to their workplace habits. Instead, he said he uses LinkedIn and Instagram to reach employees. Farhad Divecha, owner of the London digital marketing agency Accuracast, told the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/jan/20/davos-elite-say-gen-z-workers-prefer-chat-to-email">Guardian</a> he "rarely" relies on email for communication with his employees, and instead uses Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp."I might send an email with details, but over the past three to five years I've learned that email's just not good enough if you want something done quickly," he said. The popularity of Teams and Slack <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-teams-slack-zoom-usage-charts-increased-remote-work-pandemic-2020-4?r=US&amp;IR=T">skyrocketed during the pandemic</a> as working from home left many people searching for a faster, more convenient way to communicate. But it seems that many managers are struggling to come to terms with younger workers' preferences. Telecommunication player Vodafone is reportedly planning to slash hundreds of jobs, mostly at its London-based headquarters, to cut costs in the global economic slowdown. The Financial Times reported that this will be the company's "biggest round of job cuts in five years". Vodafone employs about 104,000 people globally and 9,400 people in the UK. In November last year, the company said it will cut 1 billion euros ($1.08 billion) of costs by 2026. Its CEO Nick Read stepped down at 2022 end, replaced by chief financial officer Margherita Della Valle for an interim period. Read stepped down as Group Chief Executive and as a Director of Vodafone on December 31, following which he will be available as an adviser to the Board until March 31, 2023. He had said that cost savings measures would "be achieved through streamlining and simplification of the group". In a statement, Vodafone said it was reviewing its operating model, focusing on streamlining and simplifying the group. "We will say more about the changes when we announce our third-quarter results on February 1," said the company. Earlier this week, the company agreed to sell its business in Hungary to a local IT company called 4iG and the Hungarian state for $1.82 billion. Vodafone Group plans hundreds of job cuts, biggest in 5 years: Report

This follow-on investment further deepens our commitment to the NHAI InvIT platform to acquire road projects across the country, ultimately delivering solid long-term returns for the CPP Fund,” said <keyword id="12098934" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="scott-lawrence" source="Orion">Scott Lawrence</keyword>, managing director &amp; global head of infrastructure, CPP Investments. Following the current transaction, CPPIB will continue to hold 25% of the units in NHAI InvIT. A rare yellow turtle with pink eyes was spotted and rescued in Odisha's Balasore

<ul><li>Complete lockdown will be in force across West Bengal on Thursday and Saturday this week: State Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.</li><li>The decision was taken following a high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister <keyword id="43868" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mamata-Banerjee">Mamata Banerjee</keyword>, at the state secretariat, Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said. </li><li>All offices, transport services will be shut down on those two days, he said. </li></ul> Stating that community transmission of COVID-19 has been recorded in a few areas in West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee government on Monday announced a complete lockdown across the state for two days every week to stem the spread of the disease. The decision was taken following a high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at the state secretariat, Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said. "There are a few places in the state where community transmission of COVID-19 has been detected. After talking to experts, doctors, enforcement authorities, and the police, we have decided to impose complete lockdown for two days every week in the entire state to break the chain (of transmission)," he told reporters at the secretariat. All offices, transport services will be shut down on those two days, he said. "This week, the total lockdown will be in force on Thursday and Saturday. Next week, the shutdown will be clamped on Wednesday (July 29)," the home secretary said, adding that a review meeting will be held next Monday for further discussions on the matter. West Bengal minister declares complete lockdown in the state on Thursday and Saturday this week

<ul><li>Despite consistent sales, <keyword id="6359432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="britannia">Britannia</keyword>’s profit margin shrank significantly compared to the Q1 of last year.</li><li>The century-old company has blamed <keyword id="22195" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Inflation">inflation</keyword> and crude oil prices for its receding profit margins in Q1 of FY2022.</li><li>Just like its competitors, Britannia too is looking to increase its price over the next quarter.</li></ul>Inflation is biting even for some of the country’s largest companies. Varun Berry, the chief executive (CEO) of Britannia, wants to increase prices of Britannia products. The inflation rate has increased to around 6-7% compared to April-June 2021. Meanwhile, fuel prices have increased another 1-2%, which has hit the company’s supply chain. “It’s a very high inflation number that we are currently sitting on. A situation like this, just necessitates [price increase]. Cost efficiency can never take care of this kind of inflation. Two-three percent we can usually take care of, but this necessitates price increase and that’s why we move forward with that,” Britannia’s chief executive officer Varun Berry, said in a call with analysts on August 2. There were two reasons why the Britannia shares rallied on Monday. The 1% drop in revenue from sales was better than the estimated<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/britannia_industries_2-quarter-earnings-preview-q1-1030656615"> contraction </a>and that the company wants to improve margin with price revision. While India’s biggest FMCG brand <keyword id="6365619" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="hindustan-unilever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> has managed to pave its way out of this circle with little to no impact, all thanks to its strategic pricing practices taken up last year. Lux, which used to cost ₹22 in April 2020, was priced at ₹28 in May 2021. The company had also indicated this price rise in its earning call for April-June quarter of FY2021. “We are taking some judicious price increases in parts of our portfolio. Some of it has already landed and some of it will land in due course because the quantum of inflation is a lot. And also, we'll do it in parts of the portfolio where it makes sense,” Srinivas Phatak, former chief financial officer (CFO) of Hindustan Unilever <a href="https://www.hul.co.in/Images/jq-2020-transcript---final_tcm1255-553839_1_en.pdf">said</a>. He has currently taken up a global finance role at Unilever’s London head office.
