To beat the traffic of Bangalore, you can now book a 12-minute helicopter ride

Let’s assume a Bangalorean started reading this article when he took a cab at Bengaluru’s Whitefield. There are 90% chances that by the time he finishes reading this article, sharing it with friends, commenting on the social media, eating his evening snack and swallowing all of that with a fizzy drink, the person would still be stuck in <keyword id="2998639" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Whitefield-traffic">Whitefield traffic</keyword>. 
 
This is not an odd day out and people of Bengaluru are bearing the brunt of the burgeoning traffic problem every minute. 
 
There are umpteen number of tweets, Facebook posts, threads on social media by people of Bengaluru who have missed their meetings, trains, flights, important function, cricket matches, etc because of the traffic. They say starting five minute early also makes no difference as they have to face chock-a-block traffic in any case. 
 
A glance at the stats will further reveal the grim situation. As per the data from Bengaluru’s RTO, the number of registered vehicles in the city went up from 55.59 lakh vehicles in 2015 to more than 60 lakh as of January 2016. 
 
This means, every month, 10% vehicles are getting added every day to the roads. Moreover, Bengaluru carries over 2.3 million riders daily and the average speeds is 18 kph, with which India’s Silicon Valley is counted among India’s slowest metros. 
 
The nerve wrecking situation is also because Bengaluru has a road density of 8.2 kilometre (km) per square km, the lowest among big Indian cities, and the scope of expansion is quite limited. In comparison, Delhi has a road density of 21.6 km per square km.

There was a time when Bengaluru became the start-up city as well as the hub of several multinational companies, because of the suitable conditions that this coming-of-age city offered. However, worsening traffic conditions in the city and government’s lethargic attitude towards taking any steps to improve these conditions have forced Bengaluru’s outer ring road (ORR)-based MNCs to look outside the city for their next round of expansions. 
 
Apparently, traffic has resulted in these companies facing productivity loss, estimated at hundreds of crores. Factors that are forcing companies to think of downsizing in Bengaluru also include road-safety issues, mental and physical stress and resulting health issues in their employees. 
 Three months ago, a group of heads of companies based along ORR met <keyword id="6354466" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Siddaramaiah">Siddaramaiah</keyword>, the CM of Karnataka, to find a solution to the increasing traffic; however, two meetings and three follow-up letters have not resulted in anything substantial. 
 
If these companies shift base outside Bengaluru, the city stands at a risk of losing thousands of crores in investment, not to forget the dent to its reputation as a tech and startup hub. 
 
Cities that emerge as an option for these companies include Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai, where traffic problem exists but much lesser as compared to Bengaluru.

Bengaluru’s traffic nightmare is turning MNCs away

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 6 (ANI): On Friday, Bengaluru notched up another first with the demonstration of the first collapsible and <keyword id="15724615" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobile-bus-stop" source="Orion">mobile bus stop</keyword>. <keyword id="17985108" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="alli-serona" source="Orion">Alli Serona</keyword> (Kannada for 'Let's meet there') , a women's collective, is addressing this mobility gap with Bengaluru's first collapsible and mobile bus stop, which hopes to demonstrate how the transportation needs of the informal sector can be met. This 'mobile bus stop' will journey through four chosen areas in Bengaluru namely, Hosa Nagar, Seegahalli, Thursday Sante Area, and Byrasandra, across October. The bus stop will be installed from October 5 - 7 behind Baiyappanahalli Metro Station, Hosa Nagar, from where it will move to Seegehalli and Priyanka Nagar on October 9 - 10, at the Thursday Sante Area on October 16-18, and at Byrasandra on October 20-21. Designed to resemble a wooden, scaled-down version of a typical bus stop, the installation will have a ticket counter, seating arrangements, a shared space for waiting, and a newsstand. "Through this installation we have created a platform with and for women working in the informal workforce of the city, to increase their participation in decision-making for improved public transport services for all," says Suresha Kantha B, a community coordinator from APSA for the Jayanagara constituency. <keyword id="157611" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sujatha" source="Orion">Sujatha</keyword>, a woman leader and tailor from Vijayanagar, Whitefield, shares how this activity represents their shared commitment to better transport for women like her and their families. "We're a family of four. My husband, maternal uncle, and I share a two-wheeler for work. Each of us having a vehicle increases carbon emissions. Many families do the same. Buses accommodating 50-60 people significantly reduce emissions. Leaving early doesn't always help due to traffic. I've seen cars carrying one person, though they can seat five to six. Imagine if everyone used buses. This could positively impact the environment, leading to better rains, enhanced greenery, improved air quality, and overall better quality of life and health." Mallika Arya of Bengaluru Moving says, "Goal 11 of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals appeals to member countries to provide safe, affordable, and accessible transportation to all, especially those in vulnerable situations. Inclusive mobility in urban areas is however often overlooked. The Alli Serona Mobile Bus Stop demonstrates how a good public transport system can bring people into the fold of the city." Upon arrival in this bus stop installation, the visitors will be guided through answering five questions that will seek to identify what their take on bus transportation in Bengaluru is. Do they find it affordable, expensive, reliable, available, and accessible? The questionnaire will also seek to know more about the barriers hindering women from benefiting from the Shakti Scheme. Women leaders from Alli Serona will also highlight the intention behind the setup and engage in conversations about the challenges faced by their community. Alli Serona is a collective of civil society organizations, creators, and think tanks that are working together to bring the voices of those working in the informal workforce of Bengaluru to the center of the city's shift to a more sustainable, low-carbon city. Bengaluru's first interactive mobile bus stop highlights mobility gaps in the city

Ltd. is likely to get one H125 <keyword id="46492" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="helicopter" source="Orion">helicopter</keyword> from <keyword id="6356166" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airbus" source="Orion">Airbus</keyword> this October/November, said a top company official. He also said the company will be launching helicopter service between Bengaluru International Airport and HAL on weekdays starting October 10 at Rs 3,250 per seat. The company will subsequently introduce more routes to Whitefield and Electronic City, he added. "A wholly owned subsidiary in Gujarat's Gift City has placed orders for a couple of helicopters with Airbus. The helicopters will have a seating capacity of 5/6 persons. The first helicopter is expected to be delivered this October/November," Amit <keyword id="1036" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dutta" source="Orion">Dutta</keyword>, Managing Director told IANS. He said the subsidiary company will lease the helicopter to operators from whom Fly Blade will hire for its operations," Dutta added. The Fly Blade is a joint venture between the US-based BLADE Urban Air Mobility Inc. and the New Delhi-based venture capital firm, Hunch Ventures, which began its operations in 2019. The company has partnered with Airbus and Eve Air Mobility to expand its short-haul air mobility services in India through fleet expansions. The company began its maiden flights in Maharashtra between Mumbai, Pune and Shirdi. Later it expanded its scheduled by-the-seat helicopter flights to Karnataka (to Coorg, Hampi, and Kabini) and Goa; launched its bed-to-bed air medevac service and also chartered plane service. Speaking about the proposed helicopter service between Bengaluru International Airport and HAL Airport, he said annually about 40 million people visit the airport and majority of them by taxis that charge about Rs 2,000. Converting a small percentage of the taxi traffic to helicopter service will be a sizable revenue potential. "It takes about two hours to reach the Bengaluru International Airport. On the other hand for Rs 3,250 one can reach the airport in 12 minutes by our helicopter," Dutta said. According to him, similar service will be offered in <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword>. Dutta said during the Covid-19 pandemic the company operated medical evacuation flights. After withdrawal of the Covid-19 lock down demand from the domestic tourists have picked up. The company's flights have an occupancy of about 75 per cent. According to him, the company plans to expand its network and offer its services in 10 states over the next 24 months leasing about 50 crafts.
