Online travel marketplace <keyword id="325017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wego" source="Orion">Wego</keyword> on Monday said it is acquiring <keyword id="132652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cleartrip" source="Orion">Cleartrip</keyword>'s Middle East business from <keyword id="6354742" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart" source="Orion">Flipkart</keyword> Group for an undisclosed sum. The transaction also includes the sale of Flyin.com and a technology co-operation agreement between Wego and Flipkart. Cleartrip expanded into the Middle East region in 2010 and acquired Riyadh based Flyin.com in 2018, which played a similar role in kick-starting online travel in Saudi Arabia. Wego and Cleartrip both have their regional headquarters located in Dubai. "This acquisition will significantly increase our scale and capabilities and will strengthen our ability to partner and collaborate across our region," said Ross Veitch, CEO and Co-Founder of Wego. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half this year. "Given our strategic priorities and focus on the Indian market, the acquisition of Cleartrip's Middle East business by Wego provides continuity to its business, and we believe that they are the right partners to boost its next phase of growth," said Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President and Head-Corporate Development, Flipkart. Flipkart sells Cleartrip's Middle East business to travel marketplace Wego

China-based ByteDance which is the parent company of <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword>, has reportedly started selling the AI technology of the short video-making app to other companies, including in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> where the app is banned. The <keyword id="35662" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-times">Financial Times</keyword> reports that the company has kicked off a new devision called BytePlus and is selling TikTok AI to companies like India-based social gaming platform GamesApp, US fashion app Goat, Singapore travel site <keyword id="325017" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wego">WeGo</keyword>, Indonesian shopping app Chilibeli, among others. In 2020, the Indian government banned several apps developed by Chinese firms, including TikTok, over concerns that these apps were engaging in activities that threatened the national security and defence of the country. Last month, Nikhil Gandhi, the <keyword id="114975" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-head">India Head</keyword> of <keyword id="1334" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="China">China</keyword>'s ByteDance-owned short video-sharing platform TikTok, decided to quit. TikTok roped in Gandhi in 2019 as its India head to drive the next phase of growth for the Chinese short video-sharing platform. TikTok's recommendation algorithm is a huge part of what has made it so popular. According to the report that came out on Sunday, BytePlus offers customers the chance to access the TikTok recommendation algorithm, and "personalise it for their apps and customers". BytePlus also offers automated speech and text translation and real-time video effects as well as data analysis tools, according to its website. The core TikTok algorithms, often credited for the rapid growth of the platform, determine the videos users see even before they start following creators. The company said in a blog post recently that its 'ForYou' feed determines what videos to serve a given user. Its recommendations are based on user interactions including which videos you like, share comment on, or create, video information, and device and account settings including what device you're using, language preferences, and location settings. TikTok's source code and user data are maintained separately from other businesses of its parent company ByteDance. Bengaluru-based resource aggregator Onetimejobs is sponsoring a family vacation to Ooty for its employees while tech startup Code-Nation recently took its employees for a 3-day watersports outing in Dandeli to unwind together. 
 Delhi-based Wingify is one company that takes its employees and their families on a <keyword id="20983" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Holiday">holiday</keyword> every year. This year, it is spending Rs 65 lakh to take some 130 people across its offices in Delhi, Pune and the US to Langkawi for four days of fun and games.

Startups play Santa to overperforming employees, line up foreign trips, food walks and what not!

The landscape of aviation has evolved faster than any other industry. Aviation has come a long way since 1943, when <keyword id="141575" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Qantas">Qantas</keyword> operated the world’s longest commercial flight with a weekly service between Perth and Colombo. The duration of the flight was 28-32 hours, and seated three passengers on a tiny Catalina aircraft travelling at 200km/h. Now with a minimum 1 hour flight with minimum 40 seats speak a lot about its long journey. Dean Wicks, Chief Flights Officer for Wego, world’s largest travel search site talks about some interesting facts about the changing landscape, the world’s longest flight routes, and which <keyword id="44023" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="airlines">airlines</keyword> are changing the game. 

	Longest flight
 <keyword id="6368386" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Singapore-Airlines">Singapore Airlines</keyword> holds the record for longest flight for its 100 passenger, all business class service from Singapore to Newark, a distance of 15,329 km. 

	“However, when Singapore Airlines cancelled that flight in 2013, the record returned to Qantas with their Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth service, a distance of 13,804 km, and a duration of 16 hours, 55 minutes,” said Dean Wicks, Chief Flights Officer for Wego, world’s largest travel search site. 
 Emirates will become the new record holder for longest flight duration shortly, from Dubai to Panama City flying a total of 17 hours, 35 minutes. That’s 13,821 kms on Emirates <keyword id="6357957" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Boeing">Boeing</keyword> 777-200LR aircraft. 

	 
	 
	2016 predictions
 

	This year, the aviation landscape is about to change yet again with a lot of new records, thanks on the most part to Middle Eastern carriers, according to Wicks. 
 

	“The rapid pace in which Middle East carriers launch new routes and continue to grow, purchasing larger fleets of wide body aircraft in huge numbers, is establishing the region as the new world aviation superhub,” Wicks added. 
 

	“The new Emirates service places Qantas back to second, but it will be interesting to see how long they retains that position, as the Australian national carrier has already expressed their intentions to operate a direct Perth to London service, a distance of 14,000 kms, when they receive their 787-900 in 2017.”
 

	“Of the top eleven longest flights in the world, eight are serviced by Middle Eastern carriers; Emirates, Etihad, Qatar and Saudia,” Wicks continued. 
 

	“The MENA region continues to display its commitment to the travel industry with impressive fleet additions, and new and renovated airport investments. Istanbul’s new airport, slated to open in 2018, potentially could launch 200 new routes to over 150 destinations,” said Wicks. 
 Dubai will also exceed London’s <keyword id="48490" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Heathrow">Heathrow</keyword> Airport lead of number of international passengers, and become the world’s busiest international airport, and in anticipation of Iran’s return to the international scene, the country just days ago placed an order for 114 aircraft from Airbus. 

	According to statistics, 2016 will see 1,100 new services scheduled from 170 airlines the world over, he said. 
 

	“Competition in aviation has never been so fierce and the Middle East region is stepping up to be a leading contender.”
 

	“New aircraft, services and airports, coupled with intense competition and further drops in the oil costs, equates to greater choice and airfares for the traveller, no matter where they’re located or what destination they’re travelling to,” Wicks said in conclusion.

airlines: From 1909 to 2016

Indians love for the shores of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand is on an all-time high, suggest a study done by global online travel portal Wego.com. The study, which lists top five international destinations for Indians, reveals that Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and London are Indian’s favourite international holiday destinations. 
	 
	“Southeast Asian cities again top our most popular international destination list, with Dubai climbing strongly to the number two spot,” said - Jackson Fernandez, managing director of Wego India. 
	 
	Apart from the top favourites in foreign locations, the study also suggested that Delhi continued to remain as the top destination in the domestic market. “Wego’s large number of business travel users in India have placed Delhi and Mumbai in the top domestic travel destinations this year, while Goa, continues as a favourite amongst holiday travellers with all our top five domestic hotels located in the popular beachside,” added Fernandez. Bengaluru and Chennai too found a place in the top 5 domestic destinations preferred by our travellers. 
	 For long haul destinations, <keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword> was the most preferred airline followed by <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword>, <keyword id="42740" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Emirates">Emirates</keyword>, <keyword id="6437601" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Etihad">Etihad</keyword> and Malaysia Airlines. On the other hand, Indigo followed by Spicejet, Jet Airways, Air India and Go Air were preferred for domestic travel. 
	 
	“New domestic airlines, expansion of route services and attractive discounts will continue to add a zing to this sector, while improvements in infrastructure will help the domestic travel market grow with travellers seeking out new serviced destinations,” averred Fernandez. 
	 
	The study has forecasted that inbound tourism will grow substantially following the implementation of visa on arrival for 43 countries. Also, the hotel industry is expected to address the issue of shortage of room inventory especially in the budget segment of the sector. 
	 
	“Currently an undersupply of around 150,000 hotel rooms in India, especially in the budget segment, should see a growth in these types of properties in 2015. Outbound travel will continue to also grow in the upcoming year, supported by the burgeoning and affluent middle class,” he stated.

Top 5 Popular International Attractions For Indian Travellers

India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer <keyword id="108831" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TVS-Motor-Company">TVS Motor Company</keyword> expects to increase its market share in the <keyword id="1107521" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="scooter-segment">scooter segment</keyword> from 15% to 18% in two months. 
 With the launch of <keyword id="62356" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TVS">TVS</keyword> Scooty Zest 110, the company is looking at monthly sale of 75,000 scooters, up from current level of 60,000. The total volume of the scooter market in the country is 3.5 lakh per month. 
 According to JS <keyword id="45963" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Srinivasan">Srinivasan</keyword>, TVS vice-president, sales, the company expects a growth of over 30% in the overall sales volume during the current financial year. This is driven by a robust growth in the country’s two-wheeler market and the new launches by the company. The firm, which launched several models so far, plans two more later this fiscal. 
 
“The scooter range has been positioned to address different segments, such as Jupiter for male, TVS Wego as a sleek two-wheeler for husband/wife and the Scooty for young women,” said Srinivasan. 
 
In addition to this, TVS also plans to unveil two more motorcycles-- a commuter segment bike and another in the performance category--during the year. 
 
Last year, the company sold about 17.5 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market and expects this number to surpass 22 lakh mark. 
 
It is worth mentioning that the scooter segment is growing at a higher rate than the two-wheeler industry. The growth in the segment last year was 24% and in the first five months of this fiscal it was 30%, double than the growth in the two-wheeler industry.

It is aimed at significantly reducing the number of bird strikes to aircraft and also enhancing aircraft availability. The drones use tactics of "separation, alignment and cohesion" to manipulate flocks and divert them to Birdport, which is a natural habitat where birdsong and decoys are used.Professor Lane said that this was the first time a drone concept had been entered into the competition, which takes place every two years. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Energy-harvesting skinTeam Multifun from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands has the idea of dressing the plane wings with a composite skin that harvests energy from natural vibrations or flex in the wings. Using piezoelectric fibres, electrical charges are gathered by even the smallest movements during flight.The energy can then be stored in battery panels integrated in the fuselage and can be used to power auxiliary in-flight systems, such as lighting and entertainment systems. It is aimed at reducing the energy footprint of the aircraft and has the potential of replacing the entire power source for ground operations. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Game console-inspired infra-red guidance system Team Aft-Burner-Reverser from the Northwestern Polytechnical University in China proposes applying motion-sensing technology from a games console to an aircraft guidance system for use when the aircraft is taxing.It is aimed at saving airlines millions of dollars a year by reducing the the turnaround time of aircraft between flights and the cost of damage as the model uses infra-red and visual information to warn the pilot and ground crew of high-risk obstacles. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div> The faster trolley trash systemTeam Retrolley from the University of São Paulo, Brazil proposed a new system that is aimed at reducing waste in-flight and cutting down the time taken to collect and sort rubbish post-flight.It is also aimed at speeding up airline operations particularly on short-haul carriers. The bespoke trolley model is designed to intelligently sort rubbish and recycling by minimising the volume of foils, paper and plastic and collecting residual fluid. The team estimates that the model can reduce the weight of galley equipment by up to 30kg.
