But <keyword id="1736797" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Robert-Savage">Robert Savage</keyword> at FX Concepts says there were three news stories this weekend that were more important than the PMI reports.

<li>'The EU-NSA row' — An NSA document showed that the EU embassy in Washington was bugged and that similar measures were taken at the European mission in New York. Savage points to a <keyword id="106918" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Der-Spiegel">Der Spiegel</keyword> report on relations between the U.S. and the EU especially in terms of free trade. From Savage: "'Partners do not spy on each other,' EU Justice Commissioner <keyword id="234532" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Viviane-Reding">Viviane Reding</keyword> said at a public <keyword id="23897" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="forum">forum</keyword> in Luxembourg. 'We cannot negotiate over a big trans-Atlantic market if there is the slightest doubt that our partners are carrying out spying activities on the offices of our negotiators.'"</li>
<li>The protests in Egypt — "So far the protests in Egypt are as expected - big, noisy - but of little consequence," said Savage. "The risk for markets is civil war and an extension of the Syrian conflict fears as the government supported by Islamists fight a large group of moderate Egyptians."</li>
<li>Mark Carney taking on the role of <keyword id="106488" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bank-of-England">Bank of England</keyword> Governor – "Like the U.S., the UK is closer to ending the easy money of QE than extend it. But the uncertainty of timing and size in drawing down extraordinary policy makes the meeting on July 4th more important than usual." Carney had previously indicated that he would be willing to make changes to the benchmarks and targets that the BoE uses to guide monetary policy, and some analysts think QE could be extended since three members of the monetary policy committee have previously voted for expanding the asset purchase programme. </li>

3 Weekend Stories That Were More Important Than The PMI Reports

A politician, a pedophile and a would-be killer are among the people who have already asked Google to remove links to information about their pasts. 
 The idea behind the ruling was that European citizens should be allowed to hide a link on Google if they don't want it to be publicly accessible, under a so-called "right to be forgotten." The question, however, is whether an individual's personal desires overrules the public's right to know about events that are a matter of public record.
This question becomes more urgent when you know a few of the examples of links that have already been submitted for removal by Google. A source familiar with the situation gave Business Insider these five cases that have been brought up since the EU ruling on Tuesday:

<li>A former politician requested that Google remove links to a news article about his behavior when previously in office, so that he can have a clean slate when running for a new position.</li>
<li>A man who was convicted of possessing child sexual abuse imagery requested that Google remove links to pages about his conviction.</li>
<li>A convicted cyberstalker requested that Google remove a link to an article about cyberstalking laws that mentions his name.</li>
<li>A physician requested that Google remove a link to a review site.</li>
<li>A man who tried to kill his family requested that Google remove a link to a news article that discusses the event.</li>
</ul>
These are the kinds of people who are taking advantage of the EU's recent ruling.
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/european-union-court-ruling-to-remove-google-search-results-2014-5">According to Viviane Reding</a>, European commissioner for justice of fundamental rights and citizenship, the EU ruling was a success for personal data protection. "The data belongs to the individual, not to the company," she posted to Facebook. "And unless there is a good reason to retain this data, an individual should be empowered - by law - to request erasure of this data."

A Politician And A Pedophile Have Already Used The New Ruling That Forces Google To Delete Links From The Web

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">Mike Nudelman/Business Insider</div></div>People in Europe can now ask Google to delete sensitive information from its internet search results, a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/13/eu-google-dataprotection-idUSL6N0NZ23Q20140513">European court ruled on Tuesday</a>.
The <a href="http://curia.europa.eu/jcms/upload/docs/application/pdf/2014-05/cp140070en.pdf">European Union Court of Justice ruled</a> that people should have "the right to be forgotten," which includes erasing traces of their digital past from the internet.
The ruling was sparked by a complaint from a man in Spain, who claimed to the Spanish data protection agency that an auction notice of his repossessed home which appeared in Google's search results infringed his privacy.
Mario Costeja Gonzalez initially filed the complaint in March 2010 against Google Inc., Google Spain, and a major Spanish newspaper that had published an announcement regarding the auction notice in 1998, according to <a href="http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1399991707127&amp;uri=CELEX:62012CJ0131">court documents published by the European Union Court of Justice</a>. 
Gonzalez's situation is one of 180 in Spain in which complainants have requested that Google delete their personal information from the web, <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/13/eu-google-dataprotection-idUSL6N0NZ23Q20140513">Reuters reports</a>.
Here's what the court papers specifically say in regards to requesting that information be removed from Google:
If, following a search made on the basis of a person's name, the list of results displays a link to a web page which contains information on the person in question, that data subject may approach the operator directly and, where the operator does not grant his request, bring the matter before the competent authorities in order to obtain, under certain conditions, the removal of that link from the list of results.
Viviane Reding, European commissioner for justice of fundamental rights and citizenship, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Viviane-Reding/291423897690447">posted to Facebook</a> that she ruling is a success for personal data protection. 
"The data belongs to the individual, not to the company," she wrote. "And unless there is a good reason to retain this data, an individual should be empowered-by law-to request erasure of this data."
<h2>Google's nightmare</h2>
A Google spokesperson sent us the following comment via email regarding the decision:
This is a disappointing ruling for search engines and online publishers in general. We are very surprised that it differs so dramatically from the Advocate General's opinion and the warnings and consequences that he spelled out. We now need to take time to analyze the implications. 
The European Union Court of Justice's decision means more than just a simple policy change for Google. The ruling could mean a complete overhaul in the way Google indexes the internet, according to David P. Fidler, professor of law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. 
"It's just sort of an astonishing possibility that Google is looking at, to play this sort of role in whether or not the individual has the right to be forgotten," Fidler said. "I can imagine Google is saying 'we don't have any idea what the implications of this are.'"
Fidler pointed out that if one specific case in Spain could play such a heavy role in this ruling, there's a possibility that Google will face a giant influx of requests to take information down following the decision. Every individual has a different idea of what privacy means, Fidler said, which leaves Google with the daunting and overwhelming task of juggling the public interest versus privacy. 
"Google has to sort of figure out this balancing," he said. "It's potentially a nightmare of epic proportions for Google." 
Irina Raicu, internet ethics program director at Santa Clara University, said that there's no straightforward answer when determining whether or not this is a positive step for the internet.
"It's hard to say that anything is good or bad for the internet overall," she said. "It obviously impacts some people and not others."
Raicu pointed out that this idea of erasing your digital past wasn't an issue until search engines became so prominent. 
"I think we have to recognize that search engines themselves change the status quo," she said. "Some information used to have a certain shelf life. Now with the internet and the web, it's like 'Groundhog Day' all over again." 
It's too early to determine how this could affect Google's operations in Europe, but Fidler emphasized that the outcome could potentially be severe. If Google gets slammed with requests to strip links from its search results, the company may be forced to put more resources toward maintaining its search engine in Europe. 
"We don't know at the moment in terms of the implications, but that's why I can imagine Google's head is spinning," he said. "The consequences could be very expensive and very administratively burdensome."
