New Delhi, May 13 () The Indian pharma industry on Wednesday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasising on making India self-reliant and said his speech captured the need of the moment in these trying times. Modi's 'self-reliance' call need of the hour: Pharma industry

Large deposits made during Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) of the Modi govt is going to get hurt real bad. IDS more tricky and twisted than you can think. If you have unaccounted income, which you have deposited, you would be required to show all paperwork in support of it. Merely saying them as income from business or agriculture won’t really solve the issue. 
And if you can’t provide proof of the income or making false claims, it would be taxed upto 85%. Keeping in mind the likelihood of tight scrutiny and the penal tax rate of about 85%, chartered accountants said, it would be wise to come clean under the newly announced Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY), 2016. 
 
Under this scheme, the undeclared income would be taxes up to 50% and half of the amount would be locked for four years in interest-free fixed deposits. As there is no tax on incomes from agriculture, deposits made in this category will be scrutinised strictly. 
 
The recently amended income tax Act requires all 'farmers' claiming exemption to produce mandi receipts for sale of their produce. To declare agricultural income, a person now needs to submit a certificate from the gram sevak and circle officer of their area stating the sowed acreage, purchase receipts of seeds and fertilisers, and also sale receipts. Businesses claiming a spurt in sales to explain their large deposits will also have to show higher sales tax and service tax payouts as evidence. If their documents are in order, they will need to pay tax at the usual rate of 35%. But all of these supporting documents are hard to get retrospectively, Vivek Jain, a senior chartered accountant told The Times of India.

punishment in store for large depositors who can’t show proof of income

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Hospitality major InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) on Thursday announced the appointment of Sudeep Jain as Managing Director, South West Asia with effect from January 1, 2020.
 Sudeep is currently serving as VP Development, South West Asia (SWA) and succeeds Vivek Bhalla, who has been promoted to the role of Vice President Operations for South East Asia and Korea, IHG said in a statement.
 In his new role, Sudeep will take on a broader leadership agenda to drive IHG's business in the region, covering both development and operations responsibilities across the existing portfolio of 39 hotels representing five brands -- InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas, it added.
 Sudeep will continue to be based in Gurugram, and will report to Pascal Gauvin, Managing Director, India, Middle East and Africa, IHG, the statement said.
 Commenting on the development, Gauvin said: "Since joining IHG, he (Sudeep) has led our growth agenda in the market, successfully positioning IHG as one of the leading hospitality companies in SWA, especially in India."
 Sudeep brings close to two decades of experience in the hospitality sector from roles based in the US and India, working across brand management, asset management, strategy, planning and real estate development, the statement said.

Vivek notes that his firm's price target implies 41% upside for Albemarle shares."The stock's current valuation levels do not account for the company's best-in-class asset position, its unique long-term, fixed-price contract exposure and the likely continued challenge for the lithium industry to meet expected surging demand trends in the coming years," he wrote in a note to clients.<h3>(3) Gilead Sciences</h3>Trade: Buy GLD Nov-19 monthly $65 puts recently offered at $1.73<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/gild-stock">The drugmaker</a> reports its earnings on October 24 and Goldman says it faces major challenges. Vivek says it will face a $3 billion headwind when generic versions of its HIV drugs Atripla and Truvada hit the market in September 2020, and Gilead doesn't have enough promising drugs in its pipeline to replace the revenue it will lose when other HIV drugs go off-patent.Despite those challenges, Vivek says Gilead options prices are about average, and the stock has performed about as well as the broader healthcare sector has this year.<h3>(4) Western Digital</h3>Trade: Buy WDC Nov-19 monthly $60 calls recently offered at $3.70<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/wdc-stock">The hard drive and data storage company</a> is scheduled to make its fiscal first-quarter report on October 30, and Vivek says his firm thinks Wall Street is selling Western Digital short: Goldman's analysts believe it could beat consensus earnings estimates by 20% thanks to better trends in data center business and stabilizing NAND memory pricing.Vivek adds that options traders are taking a bearish position on Western Digital, as call prices are low. Implied volatility is also low.<h3>(5) Take-Two Interactive Software</h3>Trade: Buy TTWO Nov-19 monthly $125 calls recently offered at $6.05 <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/ttwo-stock">The publisher of video games</a> including "Grand Theft Auto," "NBA 2K," and "Red Dead" is expected to report fiscal second-quarter results on November 7. GOLDMAN SACHS: These 5 trades can help investors make a killing during a crucial earnings season

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=%E2%80%8BXiaomi">Xiaomi</a> has sold over a million units in the July-September, a whopping 45% sequential jump. 
 
"We have had our best ever quarter (July-September) with sales of more than one million units. We have been witnessing about 45 per cent sequential growth for the last three quarters," Manu Jain, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=%E2%80%8BXiaomi">Xiaomi</a> India Head said. 
 
Jain said the sales were led by a strong demand for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Redmi+2+Prime">Redmi 2 Prime</a> that are assembled at a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Foxconn">Foxconn</a> plant in Andhra Pradesh. 
 
The company’s numbers, however, are in stark contrast to that of Counterpoint Research which said <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=%E2%80%8BXiaomi">Xiaomi</a> shipments slipped due to fierce competition from Lenovo and Micromax's Yu. 
 
Jain declined to share shipment details.

In the last eighteen months, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=aam+admi+party&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Aam Aadmi Party</a> including Delhi Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal </a>and six cabinet members have managed to spend over Rs 1 crore on just tea and snacks for their guests. 
 
The details emerged from an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=RTI&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">RTI</a> query filed by <keyword id="193039" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vivek-Garg">Vivek Garg</keyword> who sought to know how much the Delhi ministers spend on tea and snacks. Leading the pack is <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, who drew up a cumulative bill of Rs 47.29 lakhs which includes Rs 22,42,320 spent at the secretariat office and Rs 24,86,921 spent at his residence camp office. It goes without saying that Kejriwal seems to have left his hunger strike days way way behind. 
 
Following him is Deputy Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=manish+sisodia&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Manish Sisodia</a> who spent a total of Rs 11.28 lakhs on refreshments. 
 
 
Ex-transport minister Gopal Rai who was fired for allegations of corruption was not one to be left behind. As it turns out, he too raked up a bill of over TRs 11 lakh. 
 Then there is <keyword id="6367909" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sandeep-Kumar">Sandeep Kumar</keyword>, the ex-social welfare minister who was recently sacked and is in the midst of a sexual assault allegation. Kumar spent over Rs 9 lakh on tea and snacks, while Health Minister <keyword id="6378951" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satyendra-Jain">Satyendra Jain</keyword> also used up Rs 9.1 lakh. Last, but not the least, Tourism Minister <keyword id="6381732" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kapil-Mishra">Kapil Mishra</keyword> spent over Rs 6 lakh and <keyword id="339091" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Hussain">Imran Hussain</keyword>, the Food and Civil Supply Minister spent a little over Rs 5 lakh on snacks. 
 
Picking up the tab for all of them is none but us-the taxpayers.
