The indie-music scene is India booming and the direct result of that are the music festivals that have been cropping up, not just in the metros but tier-2 and tier-3 cities too. The music is varied; from integrating regional languages to mainstream pop music, to experiments with Indian folk music with western languages and genres, the audience has a lot of options, for every musical palate. 
 
With gigs happening with such fervor, the artists are benefiting; it’s no longer taboo to be a singer-songwriter as young bands from schools and colleges score an opportunity to showcase their talent.

 One such <keyword id="1244359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indie">indie</keyword> singer-songwriter from Mumbai raised two lakhs in under six hours of his <keyword id="990338" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="crowdfunding">crowdfunding</keyword> campaign, a feat that could’ve only been dreamt of in a country like ours where while the <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> industry thrives, the independent <keyword id="6367711" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Musicians">musicians</keyword> still struggle to get the limelight. 
 <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword> caught up with <keyword id="1355290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tejas-Menon">Tejas Menon</keyword>, the man of the ‘music’ hour to chat about how crowdfunding an album makes sense for the musicians who want to ‘Make it happen’. 
 <keyword id="17256" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Menon">Menon</keyword> defines his music as ‘A range of influences including 80’s pop-rock, musical theater and adult-contemporary songwriters, developed into his unique style of lyric-heavy pop-rock.’ 
 The singer has played in popular music festivals like <keyword id="15277" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="bacardi">Bacardi</keyword> NH7 Weekender, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, and Mahindra Blues Festival and he is comfortable both with playing in a band and just by himself and his acoustic guitar.

''For someone who released his first EP(Extended Play) ‘Small Victories’ in late 2014, I’m finally ready to do a full-length album called ‘Make it happen’ which will feature 10 songs. In the past two years, I did try to get a label on board for this but I felt that after performing all over the country, I’ll let the people who like my music help me out to do this by myself’’ he says, in an optimistic fervor. 
 
Taking the independent part to the next level literally, Menon believes that is easier than it has ever been to make a good album these days, however, good studios and album production still cost a great deal, wherein comes the crowd funding. 
 
 
 
The Campaign 
 Menon had started a campaign on the crowdfunding platform <keyword id="1927134" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wishberry">Wishberry</keyword>, which had an initial goal of Rs. 2 lakhs to be completed in 30 days, to fulfill costs like Studio Cost (Rs. 90000), Admin fees(Rs. 20000), Mixing (Rs. 50000), Mastering (Rs. 30000) and <keyword id="2426054" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="misc">Misc</keyword>. (Rs. 10000). As he’s hit the goal in under a day, the bigger goal has been set to Rs. 4 lakhs. 
 If he hits the new goal, <keyword id="6373601" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani</keyword>, the frontman of one of the first indie bands, Pentagram will feature on his album for a song called ‘Kindness’. 
 
For the fans, by the fans 
 
The incentive for the fans here is multifold, as Menon has decided to use the funds to give out rewards in forms of a copy of an album, an artsy signed poster, a songbook with all the lyrics, a deluxe edition of the album due to release later in the year, free passes to his gigs and much more. 
 
The rewards increase with the contribution as the campaign allows you to fund the project either in categories, or you can also be the rogue one and contribute any amount without any expectation of a reward. 
 
Menon has already started working on the album and expects it to release by May, this year by when all the contributors can expect to start reaping the rewards that they’ve sown. 
 
Crowdfunding for the win 
 Menon isn’t the first artist to have crowdfunded his album, with artists like <keyword id="1144733" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parvaaz">Parvaaz</keyword> with their album ‘<keyword id="226613" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baran">Baran</keyword>’ already doing it in 2014 and <keyword id="33360" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vasudha-Sharma">Vasudha Sharma</keyword>, another indie musician, did it for her album ‘Attuned spirits’ in 2013. 
 
''Crowdfunding is great as it reinstates the fact that they’re people who’re willing to back you up not just with compliments but with real investment, how big or small that might be,’’ says Menon about why he thinks it’s a great idea not just for social causes or businesses but also for creative geniuses to the likes of him.

The bursting artist in Menon lights up when we asked him what next if he hits the new monetary goal as 28 days are left to the campaign with it garnering a support of 85 backers with Rs. 3,59,170 collected and counting. 
 The 27-year old says that he’d like to collaborate with more artists and diversify his album further with Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, R'nB, <keyword id="856224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electronica">Electronica</keyword> and Soul elements that he has used to create ''a seamless musical experience that has pushed well past his creative limits.’’

The whole growing debate over religious intolerance stemmed from the killing of Akhlaq, a Dadri resident, on rumors that he had consumed beef. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, on being pestered for comments on this topic had said that Indian youth should work towards making India a secular, progressive country. He too was misquoted and this went on to become a hot topic of discussion for many days, as we saw people citing Khan to be a traitor and advising him to settle down in Pakistan. 
 
To conclude the whole debate, by creating sparks about nothing and standing outside someone’s house to protest, forcing him to send his wife and kids outside the city for safety,aren’t people proving that India is actually growing intolerant, not that Aamir said anything about it at all?

The romantic number would be shot at the famous black sand and white surf location in <keyword id="55091" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Iceland">Iceland</keyword>, and we can’t wait to see India’s most loved on-screen jodi to sizzle in this song. 
 
However, director Rohit Shetty is not the first Indian director to have thought of shooting a song in a single go. In the past, there have been songs or sequences where the director didn’t call for a cut and shot it in one go. 
 
Surely, this takes a lot of planning, rehearsal, and retakes, but what comes out in the final cut is spellbinding, and completely worth it.

Farah Khan choreographed the first 02:40 minutes of the song in a single take.

This song from 2015's comedy-drama had a lot of actors, including Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Rahul Bose, Ridhuma Sud, Zarina Wahab, Vikrant Massey, Parmeet Sethi, Divya Seth, and Manoj Pahwa dancing with hundreds of background songs. Out of all the songs listed, this one has the most fast-paced beats, and is also the longest one-take song (04:38 minutes). SRK Kajol to shoot one take song in Dilwale, but it’s not Bollywood’s first

Unilever, the world-famous consumer goods company, is in trouble lately. Mercury contamination that its thermometer factory has spread in the air and soil of Kodaikanal, a hill station in southern India, has lead to a protest. The 27-year old Chennai-born rapper <keyword id="2981644" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sofia-Ashraf">Sofia Ashraf</keyword> made a rap video, stating how Kodaikanal won’t (sit silent anymore) and set it to the tune of <keyword id="560006" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nicki-Minaj">Nicki Minaj</keyword>'s “Anaconda” and the video has gone viral (with over a million views) in just 4 days, and for all the right reasons. Sofia’s powerful lyrics describe how the company failed to clean up its ‘toxic shit’ in 14 years, despite all the Corporate Social Responsibility acts that it claims to undertake. 
 The video has been conceived and directed by Rathindran R Prasad, and has garnered appreciation and support from eminent personalities like <keyword id="15016" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nandita-Das">Nandita Das</keyword>, <keyword id="6373601" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani</keyword>, and yes, Nicki Minaj herself.

The said factory in question was shut down in 2001 by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board for crossing the limits of environmental pollution, but the contamination is yet to be cleared from KodaiKanal and the surrounding hills. 
 
In a shocking discovery, we came to know that the company had dumped almost 15 tones of broken thermometers that contained mercury in the scrap yard of the said factory, and this figure doesn’t even take into account several tones of mercury that was discharged into the surrounding air and water while the company operated. The lethality of this can be estimated by the fact that a single gram of mercury is capable enough to contaminate 25-acre lake. 
 
The people of Kodaikanal, along with the factory workers and their families are suffering from chronic health problems, with kids being born with genetic problems.

Kodaikanal Won’t! Protest video garners support from celebrities

New Delhi, Singer <keyword id="806680" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Chanchal">Narendra Chanchal</keyword>, who redefined popular devotional singing in India, is no more. According to reports, Narendra Chanchal died on Friday in the city. He was 80. Celebrities like <keyword id="31278" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lata-Mangeshkar">Lata Mangeshkar</keyword>, Daler Mehndi and <keyword id="6389563" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhur-Bhandarkar">Madhur Bhandarkar</keyword> have paid tributes to the late singer. Chanchal shot to fame with his '<keyword id="24503" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="jagran">Jagran</keyword>' hits in the seventies and the eighties, particularly songs dedicated to Sherawali Mata. His ode to Sherawali Mata "Chalo bulava aaya hai" continues to be popular till date. Chanchal is best known for his live performances. The singer also made a mark in Bollywood. He is known for rendering the title song of the 1974 Amitabh Bachchan film "Benaam", composed by RD Burman. In the same year, he also sang "Mehngai mar gayi" for the film "Roti Kapda Aur Makaan". He also famously sang "Beshak mandir masjid todo" in Raj Kapoor's 1973 superhit "Bobby", starring Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. Pulwama attacks: Amitabh Bachchan, Modi and Kejriwal pay homage to martyrs

 It was a typical case of an owner’s pride and neighbour’s envy when a usual Wednesday night turned into one of the most happening ones as <keyword id="34647" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Coldplay">Coldplay</keyword>’s Chris Martin walked into the bar and played songs- Viva la vida, and Paradise. 
 
Lucky ones termed it as a moment of a lifetime and clicked pictures with the international star, who was at the café with All India Bakchod’s Tanmay Bhat, actress Freida Pinto, singers Vishal Dadlani, Raghu Dixit and men from comedy collective.

"We are equipped with latest technology and operational efficiency and many times such impromptu events shape up better than many well planned ones. It not only adds to the surprise element for the customers present at the restaurant, it also gives them a reason to come back to the restaurant and reminisce the enjoyment,” said Batra.

When contacted, this café too gave a thumbs up and claimed to be prepared within half an hour.

Rishi Kumar, General Manager at Rodeo, said that they are always ready with basic requirements like sound set-up and security. “In case of any celebrity playing, we need to be extra cautious due to huge popularity. Once the guidelines are understood, any special requirements by artists can also be addressed without any hassle within 30 minutes,” he added.

NEW DELHI: The <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> found itself in an embarrassing position when <keyword id="6408414" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shazia-Ilmi">Shazia Ilmi</keyword>, its senior member and party candidate from Ghaziabad, was seen in a video telling Muslims that they should stop being “secular” while casting their vote and be “communal” in these elections. 
 “Muslims are too secular. Muslims will have to be communal for the first time. Muslims are not communal, they do not vote for their own. <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> is our own,” Ilmi is heard telling a group of Muslims in a room. The 79-second clip was ostensibly shot when Shazia was in Mumbai recently. 
 
Faced with a barrage of criticism over Shazia Ilmi’s purported remarks, the Aam Aadmi Party refused to defend her, saying there was no place in the party for such sentiments. 
 Ilmi’s video went viral on Tuesday and the party promptly distanced itself from the comments. An official statement from <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> said that it “does not believe in this kind of politics nor do we endorse it. All our representatives should be careful in their choice of words so that there is no scope for misinterpretation”. 
 
Senior party leader Manish Sisodia tweeted, “I’ve seen Shazia's clip. She should have not said it. AAP does not believe in communal politics. Our politics is to unite all Indians.” 
 In the video, Ilmi is heard saying, “So far we have been making <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> win. Don’t be so secular. Think of your interests this time. Muslims are secular and vote for everyone. Other parties do not do this. They have a set vote bank. Our votes are constantly getting divided. Think of your self this time.” 
 
Individuals in the clip are seen to be nodding at Ilmi’s remarks. One person adds that Muslims are often responsible for turning the tide in an election even though they are victimized. “Dare bhi hum aur jitaye bhi hum lekin malai khaye koi aur (We are used as a vote bank but also forced to live in fear. Meanwhile others reap benefits),” the clip shows him saying. 
 
To this, Ilmi, says that this time they should change their strategy and ‘fight and win’. 
 While Ilmi’s remarks drew sharp and quick reaction on social media, a few said the AAP leader came through as “clueless”. Composer Vishal Dadlani, an AAP supporter, addressed BJP supporters on the issue. “I don't know if this is the full clip or not. But I will not defend it. In my view, both Hindu and Muslim communalists and fundamentalists are anti-national … However, unlike the RSS or the VHP, parent organizations of the BJP, this speech/instance is an aberration in AAP. Either she has a foolproof explanation, or she will be expelled, I’m sure of that. AAP is full of good, non-communal, non-corrupt people, striving for India. This incident, real or not, can't take away from that,” he said.
