<keyword id="6355119" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMW">BMW</keyword>, the luxury carmaker from Germany is about to invest another Rs 130 crore in India to provide the push to its local operations. This round of investment would take its total investment in the country to Rs 1,250 crore. In the January-May period this year, <keyword id="105039" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BMW-India">BMW India</keyword> has grown at the rate of 8%, having sold 3,533 units. The Munich-headquartered company is also set to launch new version of its locally manufactured 5 Series later this month, while 6 Series Gran Turismo (GT) model would be launched next year. Both these models are being launched with an aim to strengthen its product portfolio in India. "Since 2007, we have been consistently investing in India. This year, we are going to increase our investment further to up to Rs 1,250 crore on a cumulative basis," BMW India President <keyword id="3057534" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vikram-Pawah">Vikram Pawah</keyword> told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/bmw-india-grows-8-per-cent-in-2017-to-invest-rs-125-crore/articleshow/59209060.cms">ET</a>. "Next year, we will be introducing another model in between 5 and 7 Series, called the 6 GT and that would again define a new segment and create new market for us," Pawah said. Talking about manufacturing in India, he said, "We are locally producing eight of our total 16 models that are available. So as we introduce new models, also the new 5 Series, will be produced in the Chennai plant." He added that the 6 GT would also be manufactured in India. "So all our main volume drivers as we call them will also be produced locally. Niche models will continue to come in CBU form. As the volumes increase we will continue to evaluate as what can manufactured locally," Pawah said. (Image source BMW India)

BMW to invest Rs 125 crore in India after 8% growth

Iconic cult bike maker Harley- Davidson <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> has launched its new Sportster 1200 Custom model, priced at Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). 
 
The Sportster 1200 Custom, powered by an air-cooled, 1200 cc engine will be assembled at the company's Bawal plant, Harley-Davidson India said in a statement. 
 
It will expand the company's portfolio of motorcycles assembled from CKD (Complete Knockdown) units to eight models out of a total of 13 sold in India. 
 Commenting on the launch, Harley-Davidson India Managing Director <keyword id="3057534" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vikram-Pawah">Vikram Pawah</keyword> said, "We are expanding our reach to fulfill more dreams of personal freedom and are here to promote the sport of leisure motorcycling. Harley-Davidson India has a strategic product plan to take its growth story to the next level." 
 
Harley-Davidson India started operations in August 2009. 
 
It offers 13 models in its line-up in India besides a full range of genuine parts, accessories, and general merchandise at its authorized dealerships. 
 
The Gurgaon-based firm has 20 independent dealerships across India, including New Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai, among others.

In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said the luxury car segment is set for its best-ever performance this year with <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword> offtakes playing a major role in the overall performance. He noted that the festive season generally gives high double-digit <keyword id="20040491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sales-growth" source="keywords">sales growth</keyword>, helping the automaker to average out single-digit growth of the earlier quarter. "So in that sense, on an average, then we are able to get a double-digit growth during the festive season," Iyer stated. Elaborating on the overall industry, which still remains a very small part of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country, he said the segment is headed for record volumes this fiscal year but not all players are witnessing growth." Some (companies) are even degrowing, some are flat and they are facing headwinds, but because we are the primary player in the market, we still feel the luxury car market should cross 50,000-51,000 cars this year," Iyer said. The luxury car market in India currently remains very small accounting for less than 2 % of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country. Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the automaker anticipates positive buying trends to continue during the festive season. "Our best-selling models - the A4, A6, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, and the newly launched Q8 - continue to drive robust demand," he added. The company is equally optimistic about the e-tron range, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, Dhillon said. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said the fundamentals of the Indian economy are sturdy and consumer confidence in the luxury segment is on the rise. "For BMW Group India, the order bank is solid and we are trying our best to speed up deliveries for our customers. Along with additional bookings around Diwali and Dussehra, we are confident of closing the year on a high note while clocking impressive growth," he stated. He noted that the group is witnessing very strong demand for products across all segments. Pawah said that in the run-up to the festive season, the company has introduced several special editions of its existing model range. The festive season usually commences with Onam and ends with Diwali every year.

Luxury carmakers Mercedes, Audi, BMW expect robust sales this festive season
