All the educational institutions have been asked to shut down and suspend classes till March 31, as a precautionary measure. “These are unprecedented times. With schools and colleges shut down across the country, we want to empower these institutions and help them switch to a virtual mode, so students’ learning journeys can continue uninterrupted on our platform. I do hope large numbers of public and private institutions will take this opportunity to use technology to overcome the disruption,” he added. In addition, the platform also provides an embedded live classroom for a better learner experience. However, it is still in a grey area when it comes to regulations on assessment. “As far as certification and other requirements are concerned, you still need an assessment. Today, we provide an assessment capability where one can do a remote programme to ensure it's a free assessment. But we still have to wait how the regulators are going to look into it and whether they will agree to take this as the final assessment. Will they ask for a physical assessment later — that is yet to unfold,” he said. Ramaswamy also added that the move can also revolutionize distance learning. This is in line with the initiatives proposed by the United Nations as well, which proposed solutions for inclusive distance learning programmes. “While temporary school closures as a result of health and other crises are not new unfortunately, the global scale and speed of the current educational disruption is unparalleled and, if prolonged, could threaten the right to education. ICAI, ICSI and Sastra University are first three educational institutes to collaborate with TCS iON’s ‘digital glassroom’

New Delhi, Nov 20 () IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Wednesday launched an innovation hub in Hyderabad with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc that will be used to build domain-specific solutions to help enterprises across industries accelerate their digital transformation journeys.
 "The new hub will be used to build domain-specific solutions that utilise the combinatorial power of AI, IoT and 5G technologies to help global enterprises across industries accelerate their digital transformation journeys," a statement said.
 It added that the hub will utilise TCS' expertise in digital technologies, along with Qualcomm Technologies' depth in 5G, edge AI and edge devices to build solutions to entirely new use-cases.
 The innovation hub will explore the possibilities opened up by 5G in different industries such as healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, retail, utilities.
 "Solutions developed at the hub will help customers embrace new business models, offer differentiated products and value-added services, deliver sophisticated customer experiences, and generate new revenue streams," it added.
 In a separate statement, TCS iON, a strategic unit of the Mumbai-based TCS, said it has launched 'TCS iON Industry Honour Certification'.
 The 'phygital' learning program will enable university students to opt for courses in domains such as AI, robotics, cloud computing, data mining, analytics, IoT, and cyber security.
 "These courses, curated in collaboration with industry experts and academia, will help students align their skills with industry applications, and become job ready. Students will be able to access these courses anytime, anywhere and on any device throughout the duration of their degree program," the statement said.
 Amity Group is among the earliest partners to sign up for the programme to equip its 1.75 lakh students with new-age skills.

With the massive surge in the number of online learners and the government announcement on online degrees, educational institutions including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are now moving to <keyword id="9295808" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="virtual-exams">virtual exams</keyword>, courses and certification. In an interview with Business Insider, Ambrish Sinha, CEO at MeritTrac Services, said that the online assessments have now become more important than ever. “As education goes online, assessment becomes even more important. The online proctoring tools have got a major boost and are being used by universities and even schools for the students between 9th to 12th grade,” he said. MeritTrac Services is a subsidiary of Manipal Global Education, which provides remote assessment to partner institutions like University of Mumbai, Government of Odisha and more. Tracking the movement of candidates via video streams These remote proctoring tools require a simple setup — laptop and a WiFi connection. The examination browser displays the questions on the screen while the camera and microphone tracks the eye movement, facial expressions and the ambient noises so as to avoid any malpractices. “If you move your head multiple times, we know you are trying to do something. So, there is a human proctor who gets a red prompt when there is a deviation or noise at the candidate’s end. It also doesn’t allow opening any other browser on the device,” Sinha explained. The platform only allows to view one question at a time — which can not be skipped without answering. “Our algorithm gives a credibility score at the end of the exam based on several parameters like the time spent, body movements, ambient noises and red alerts and more. If the score is below a certain level, we ask the candidate to reappear for the exam.” On similar lines, <keyword id="2022461" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TCS-iON">TCS iON</keyword>, the strategic arm of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for education, launched a remote assessment platform recently — which has assessed 28 million candidates so far. The product locks the appearing candidate’s device before enabling it to capture the exam responses. Once the user enables the camera, it also sends the video stream to the cloud server — which is then analysed using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to detect any wrong activities. It also enables invigilators to proctor candidates in real-time. “This will ensure that exam administrators are able to conduct exams in a secure way, at speed and with no dependency on the candidates’, proctors’ or exam administrators’ location. This will help authorities quickly schedule and complete the exam process,” said Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head, TCS iON.
