The Air Force’s contingent for the exercise is named the <keyword id="7796625" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Contingent">Garuda Contingent</keyword>.<br /><br />This is the sixth edition of the air exercises between IAF and the French Air Force (FAF). It is an important opportunity as IAF can gain experience in operating its current fleet of <keyword id="1055772" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sukhoi-Su-30">Sukhoi SU-30</keyword> fighters with the Rafales. <br /><br />Indian government had ordered 36 Rafale fighter jets from France, and the first delivery is expected this year. <br /><br />The Garuda contingent will include a large number of its own assets including 10 Sukhoi SU-30 fighters, an Ilyushin IL-78 aerial refuelling tanker, an Ilyushin IL-76 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and 150 Indian Air Force (IAF) officers. <br /><br /><strong>Indo-French defence cooperation on high<br /></strong><br />The Indian and French Naval forces also took part in the Varuna naval exercise in May. The naval exercise were also the largest-ever they took part in. <br /><br />Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and French aircraft carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, were the highlights of the exercise, which was conducted in two phases. <br /><br />In 2018, India and France signed a strategic pact allowing each others navies and naval facilities. The pact also allows them to open up naval bases for warships.<br /><br />Garuda is the name Indian Air Force uses for its bilateral air exercises with France. Indian army conducts military exercises with France under the name Shakti.<br /><br />The fourth edition of the Varuna exercises took place in 2014 in Jodhpur, India. <p>The decision to deploy the Charles de Gaulle was made before the attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and the subsequent hostage crises that claimed 17 lives and shook the nation last week.</p>
<p>But in light of French <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">defense</keyword> minister Jean Yves Le-Drain's <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/france-prepares-to-fight-back-defence-minister-says-isis-international-army-must-be-wiped-out-9975218.html">assertion this week</a> that "ISIS must be wiped out," the deployment looks to be part of a long-term engagement in the Middle East for what is Europe's largest military force.</p>
<p>"Thanks to the Charles de Gaulle we will have intelligence ... we may also conduct operations in Iraq," President François Hollande told military personnel in the annual presidential address from aboard the 38,000-ton carrier on Wednesday.</p>

Traditionally held on the first day of Baishakh (mid-April), a sweet drink called <keyword id="1998477" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pana">Pana</keyword> is made using fruits, card, milk, water and sugar/jaggery and bestowed as <keyword id="1998478" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Puja-offering">puja offering</keyword>. People also drink Pana and water is offered to all, even to birds and animals, for a month. Throughout this period, <keyword id="1998479" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goddess-Hingula">Goddess Hingula</keyword> is worshipped for driving the evil away. Devotees often keep fast and perform penances as part of the rituals.<br />
