When Varun Sivaram, a 26-year-old Stanford graduate, comes to India this month, he will bring along a story with which India will inch towards realising its solar energy dreams. 
 
Meet Sivaram, who is one of those who want to help India achieve its target of generating 100 gigawatts <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=solar+energy">of solar energy by 2022</a>. 
 Sivaram, a Rhodes and Truman scholar, who is an advisor to the head of New York State's entire energy portfolio, is coming to India this month to meet Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, members of Ministry of New and <keyword id="34553" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy">Renewable Energy</keyword> and former environment minister Jairam Ramesh to exchange plans to achieve the target. 
 
When asked why he was interested in the Indian chapter, Sivaram said, “Solar was in my DNA. My dad was in the industry and I always wanted to go there.” 
 
Sivaram is a strategic advisor to Richard Kauffman, chairman of energy and finance for New York who works for the office of Governor Andrew Cuomo. 
 
"Varun is the right person at the right time. The utility sector needs more innovation and fundamental change in how it approaches customers. Varun's insights on how markets inform innovation have been instrumental to developing policy in New York," Kauffman told ET.

Sivaram, who graduated in 2011, saw the flood of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=chinese+solar+panels">Chinese solar panels</a> in the US, which turned the industry in the country. 
 
Sivaram is also the youngest Douglas Dillon Fellow at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Council+of+Foreign+Relations">Council of Foreign Relations</a> (CFR), a think-tank in New York that specialises in US foreign policy and international affairs. 
 
"Ministers do not want advice from western analysts. What they find helpful is when we share our experiences of implementing solutions on the ground," said Sivaram. 
 
In India<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renewable+energy">, renewable energy</a> is not cheap even after having cheap labour and land acquisition. The main problem resides in high upfront capital costs. 
 
Sivaram will try to lobby for access to affordable foreign debt and help the government devise a debt-related policy. 
 
Experts in the solar energy sector say India can achieve a lot in this sector and what is required is more support from banks and more transmission networks. 
 
Looking at his past record, Sivaram knows how to convince and work with policy makers. In 2013, he helped implement a policy in Los Angeles after which residents installed solar panels on their roof tops. This is now the biggest solar feed-in tariff program in the US.

This 26-year-old Stanford graduate is going to help PM Modi in realising India’s solar energy dreams

The 2017 edition of <keyword id="6373044" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Forbes">Forbes</keyword>’s list of super achievers under the age of 30 is out and nearly 30 Indian-origin innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders featured in the list as they seek to break the status quo and transform the world. 
 
The list has 30 game changers in 20 industries which include healthcare, manufacturing, sports and finance. 
 
The first 600 in the list are "challenging the conventional wisdom and rewriting the rules for the next generation of entrepreneurs, entertainers, educators and more. They are passionate and formidable bunch, and for good reason. Their goal is nothing short of breaking the status quo and transforming the world." 
In those 600, more than 30 men and women of Indian-origin are listed and are making a mark in their fields. 
 
The list includes 27-year-old Vivek Kopparthi, cofounder of NeoLight that has developed a phototherapy device that is portable for use at home for jaundice. 
 
The company is also working on a second tool to treat infant hypothermia. 
 Prarthna Desai, 27, left her <keyword id="53675" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="harvard">Harvard</keyword> graduate school programme to use drones to gmedication to people in the developing world. 
 
In her operations role at the healthcare company Zipline, she is leading efforts to integrate the medicine- delivery-by-drone service with the healthcare system in Rwanda. 
 Shaun Patel, 28, is the orthopedic surgery chief resident at <keyword id="20988" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Harvard-Medical-School">Harvard Medical School</keyword> and has dozens of scientific publications in surgery journals. 
 
His company, OrthoNinja, aims to streamline communication between doctors by creating a mobile app that allows doctors to consult with one another. 
 
Rohan Suri, 17 is the founder of Averia Health Solutions and has developed an improved concussion test. 
 
In the law and policy category is 27 year old Varun Sivaram, Acting Director: Energy Security and Climate Change in leading think tank Council on Foreign Relations. 
 Sivaram completed his PhD at <keyword id="30725" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oxford-university">Oxford University</keyword> and is on the advisory boards for <keyword id="33081" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stanford">Stanford</keyword>'s energy and environment institutes. 
 He is an adjunct professor at <keyword id="208716" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Georgetown-University">Georgetown University</keyword> teaching "clean energy innovation" and previously, he advised <keyword id="3043" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hillary-Clinton">Hillary Clinton</keyword>'s campaign on energy policy. 
 In manufacturing and industry, Neha Gupta, 28, played a role in the sale of Beats by Dre to <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword>. 
 
She manages manufacturing and supply chain for DAQRI, which makes augmented reality headsets to improve safety and efficiency for industrial workers. 
 Featured in the social entrepreneurs category is Aditya Agarwalla, 23, Cofounder of Kisan Network, The <keyword id="154037" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Princeton-University">Princeton University</keyword> dropout co-founded the Kisan Network, which is an online marketplace for small-scale farmers in India. 
 In the sports category is <keyword id="18901" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Akshay-Khanna">Akshay Khanna</keyword>, 29, Vice President of Strategy for American football team Philadelphia 76ers. 
 
Among the top guns in the venture capital sector is Anarghya Vardhana, 28, who joined the firm Maveron after spending a year at Rothenberg Ventures, where she launched a virtual reality accelerator and sourced and made seed investments in a dozen startups in the virtual reality space. 
 
Akshay Goyal, 28, is the Vice President of Starwood Capital. 
 
The youngest vice president in Starwood's history when he was promoted at the age 26, Goyal focuses on hotel acquisitions and has helped drive over USD 7 billion in deals. 
 
Recently he helped sell a portfolio of 240 US hotels to China Life for USD 2 billion. 
 
In the consumer technology sector is Ajay Yadav, 29, who is the founder of Roomi, a startup app that lets users find the right roommate to live with, chat with each other, search for listings, apply for an apartment and pay rent. 
 
New York-based Roomi has raised USD 7 million to date.
