In a major push to induct indigenously developed weapon systems, the <keyword id="15141" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="indian-air-force" source="Orion">Indian Air Force</keyword> has moved a proposal worth over Rs 1,400 crore to the government for acquiring <keyword id="7766600" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rudram" source="Orion">Rudram</keyword> next-generation anti-radiation missiles (NGARM) to search and destroy enemy radar locations, informed defence officials. "A proposal for acquisition of advanced missiles developed by the <keyword id="152819" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="defence-research-and-development-organisation" source="Orion">Defence Research and Development Organisation</keyword> is with the <keyword id="43909" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="defence-ministry" source="Orion">Defence Ministry</keyword> and a high-level meeting would soon be taking a call on it," defence officials told <keyword id="21936" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ani" source="Orion">ANI</keyword>. The next-generation anti-radiation missiles have already been tested by the Indian Air Force from its Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft fleet and can destroy enemy radar locations during conflicts, they said. The destruction of radar systems can help the Indian Air Force to strike targets without detection, the officials said. The NGARM can be fired from IAF fighters like the Sukhoi-30 and the Mirage-2000. It is accurate and has been developed with the capability to even track a radar system even if it is not operating. NGARM is India's first indigenously developed anti-radiation missile that has a speed of <keyword id="1548525" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mach" source="Orion">Mach</keyword> two or twice the speed of sound. The tactical, air-to-surface anti-radiation missile is equipped with a passive homing head that tracks sources of radiation of a wide range of frequencies. It can lock into a target not only before launch but also after it has been launched. The NGARM induction would be a big boost for the Indian Air Force as it would help the force prepare for future wars with indigenous weapon systems. The induction occurred in the presence of the Defence Minister and Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari during the induction Ceremony of Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) in Jodhpur. It has a number of stealth features, including armoured-protection systems, night attack capability and crash-worthy landing gear. The LCH can be deployed in high-altitude areas and all-weather combat conditions, thanks to requisite agility, manoeuvrability, and extended range. Besides this, the helicopter can also be deployed in high-altitude bunker busting operations, urban environments, counter-insurgency, and combat capabilities to support ground forces. <div type="image" title="Light Combat Helicopter" msid="94613876" hostid="261" sizebytes="51422"></div> Other than these, several key aviation technologies are used in this helicopter, like glass cockpit, crashworthy bottom structure, anti-resonance isolation system, integrated architecture and display system, IR suppressor, helmet-mounted display system and more. Coming to weapon capabilities, it has a 20mm gun, 70mm rocket and missiles. The helicopter can fire air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. This Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) weighs 5,800 Kg, has a range of 550km and has a maximum speed of 268kmph. It is powered by a SHAKTI engine that produces a power of 1032kW. In March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a Cabinet Committee on Security, which approved the procurement of 15 indigenously developed Limited Series Production (LSP) LCH at the cost of ₹3,887 crores. According to the defence ministry, ten helicopters will be introduced, five for Indian Air Force (IAF) and five for the Indian Army. The helicopter has been tested under stringent operating conditions, such as in the desert and cold Siachen regions. Back in February 2020, the helicopter was declared ready for production.
