These cabs will help Persons with Disabilities commute to the polling booths in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru. Ola has also made it possible for Nodal Officers to check on the status of the scheduled pick-ups of PwD voters through calls to the driver partners. “In the recent past, we have seen that availability of convenient transport options has resulted in positive voter turnout and we will continue to back initiatives that support the constitutional machinery of the country. We are glad to partner with the local authorities and facilitate hassle-free mobility for every voter in Bengaluru,” said Vishnu Bommareddy, Regional Head – South at Ola. Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Sharechat has weeded out 487,000 posts on its platform which violated community guidelines because of abusive content. Sharechat, which is India's own social media platform had earlier signed the 'Voluntary Code of Ethics’ to make way for fair elections. But as they go out to vote, entrepreneurs have a lot to ask from the government. However, the Speaker asked the present Home Minister of Karnataka, MB Patil to contact Shreemath Pati’s family and give a detailed report by tomorrow. “What kind of a Speaker would I be if I proceed with a document which has no date or letterhead,” said K R Ramesh Kumar. The house was adjourned for half an hour till 4:30 pm, after ruckus raged at the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru. Previously in the day, a delegation of senior BJP leaders Jagadish Shettar, Arvind Limbavalli and Baravraj Bommai met the Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Vala and submitted a complaint on the proceedings of the house and requested him to intervene and ask the Speaker to conduct the confidence motion today itself. In the meanwhile, a Section 144 is imposed around Vidhan Soudha area, where assembly of more than four people is banned, ahead of the vote. One of the rebel Congress MLAs, Roshan Baig was detained at the Bengaluru airport while he was trying to take a chartered flight, as per IANS. “Baig was detained for questioning at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) when he was about to take off in a private aircraft to an unconfirmed destination from <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword>,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) B.R. Ravikantha Gowda was <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/karnataka-congress-mla-roshan-baig-detained-in-bengaluru-1569785-2019-07-16">reported saying</a>. Baig had kickstarted the crisis by tendering his resignation on June 10. After that, 15 MLAs across both the coalition parties followed suit, shaking up the state government. Karnataka politics had turned into a battle ground after MLAs resigned from the ruling government. However, the speaker did not accept the resignations terming saying that it violates constitutional rights. The MLAs had accused the Speaker Ramesh Kumar of not accepting their resignations, even when they were in accordance with the Indian constitution. “We are now 15 MLAs who want to resign but there is no formal acceptance by Speaker. Idea is not to defect, but resign so that we can go back to public and contest,” said Mukul Rohatagi, earlier told a Supreme Court bench which includes Chief Justice <keyword id="245445" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranjan-Gogoi">Ranjan Gogoi</keyword>.

As reported, Apple Inc has decided to enter India's start-up ecosystem by announcing plans to set up an accelerator unit, christened as a "design and development" start-up accelerator in India's Silicon Valley, Bengaluru. 
 CEO Tim Cook, who is in India for his maiden visit, said that the new accelerator facility would help <keyword id="2417629" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="iOS-developers">iOS developers</keyword> create innovative apps for Apple global users, while adding that it would also provide resources to support entrepreneurs. 
 
The accelerator is expected to open sometime in early 2017. 
 "India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world," said <keyword id="145686" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Apple-CEO">Apple CEO</keyword> Tim Cook in a statement. "With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we're giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world." 
 
Apple said that developers would be able to "hone their skills" so that they can catch up with the company's global standards and best practices. 
 
"This is a huge vote of confidence in India's developer community and a tremendous opportunity to gain world-class design and development expertise," said Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal. "Apple's support will help drive growth and accelerate progress among the country's vast talent pool." 
 
The support from Apple would extend to the point of its in-house experts leading briefings and providing one-on-one app reviews for developers, guiding them about the exclusive programming language Swift.

This was highly expected as 17 of the ruling coalition government's legislators were absent from the assembly today. The motion for confidence was moved by Kumaraswamy on July 18, after as many as 15 MLAs resigned from the government early this month. Of the 17 missing legislators, 12 of the Congress and 3 of the JD-S are rebels who resigned from the Assembly and are holed-up at a star hotel in Mumbai while other two Congress members are in private hospitals in Bengaluru and Mumbai for treatment. "The rebels have rejected even the last-minute appeal of the party leaders to be present in the Assembly for voting in favour of the motion, as they have already resigned and the Supreme Court ruled on July 17 that they cannot be compelled to attend the session for the floor test," a leader of the ruling combine told IANS. Though two Independents, who resigned as ministers on July 8 and pledged support to the BJP were not seen in the Assembly since the 10-day monsoon session began on July 12, the opposition party is hoping they would be present at the time of voting against the motion. "Even if they are not present, their absence will not make a difference as all our 105 legislators are present in the House to vote against the motion," party spokesman G. Madhusudana told IANS. With 17 members absent, the effective strength of the 225-member Assembly at the time of voting will be 208, with 105 the new halfway mark. The Congress strength has been reduced from 79 to 65, but this includes the Speaker, who can vote only in the event of a tie. Similarly, the JD-S strength has come down from 37 to 34. With the support of the lone BSP member and the nominated member, the ruling combine has 101 votes, which is four short of the half-way mark, while the BJP's 105 increases to 107, with the two Independents. The BJP leader said that they hoped that good sense will prevail in Kumaraswamy, who knows that his fate is sealed, and he will resign than face a humiliating defeat in the floor of the house. H D Kumaraswamy government loses trust vote

The ruling <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP) won 3 of the 4 seats in the October 28 biennial elections to the <keyword id="74394" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka-legislative-council">Karnataka Legislative Council</keyword>, including 2 from Teachers and 1 from Graduates constituency, an official said on Tuesday. "BJP's Puttanna won the <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword> Teachers seat with 7,335 votes, defeating A.P. Ranganatha of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) with 5,107 votes and R. <keyword id="6366707" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="praveen-kumar">Praveen Kumar</keyword> of Congress with 782 votes," an Election Commission official told IANS here. Puttanna, who defected from the JD-S, has retained the seat. In Karnataka North-East Teachers constituency, BJP's Shashil Namoshi won with 9,418 votes, wresting the seat from Sharanappa Mattur of Congress who polled 6,213 votes, while Timmayya Purle of JD-S secured 3,812 votes. Namoshi had won from the seat twice earlier, while Mattur re-contested after his term ended in June but lost. In Karnataka West Graduates segment, BJP's S.V. Sankur won with 13,293 votes, defeating <keyword id="10255012" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="r-m-kuberappa">R.M. Kuberappa</keyword> of Congress with 6,111 votes and Basavaraj Terdal, an Independent, with 3,540 votes. Sankur re-contested to retain the seat after his term ended in June. Vote count is still underway in the Karnataka South-East Graduates seat, in which Chidanand Gowda of the BJP, <keyword id="207378" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Babu">Ramesh Babu</keyword> of the Congress and R. Chowda Reddy of the JD-S are in the fray. Reddy has re-contested after his term ended in June. Votes of Bangalore Teachers and North East Teachers seats were counted in Bengaluru, while that of West Graduates at Dharwad in the state's northwest region and South-East Graduates at Gulbarga in the state's northern region. Voting in the biennial elections to the four seats was held to fill vacancies caused after the term of the incumbent lawmaker ended in June. The by-elections, however, could not be held in July due to the Covid-19 pandemic gripping the state since mid-March. In West Graduates, 70.11 per cent voting was recorded, followed by 75 per cent in South-East Graduates, 73.32 per cent in North-East Teachers and 66 per cent in Bangalore Teachers constituency. In all, 40 candidates from BJP, Congress, Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and Independents were in the fray in all the four seats. All eyes are now on the country’s highest court, which is expected to end the impasse with its verdict tomorrow (July 17). At the heart of the crisis is a battle for control over one of the country’s economically more prosperous states, with the ruling JDS-Congress coalition on one side and the BJP on the other. 16 legislators rebelled against the ruling coalition on July 6, bringing to question whether Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had enough numbers to remain in power. One of those 16 has now returned into the Congress-JDS fold, leaving the number of rebels at 15, a day before the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> verdict. The question in front of the Supreme Court is whether these resignations should be accepted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, who had decided that the rebellion was unconstitutional. Meanwhile, the <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP), the main opposition party in Karnataka, has claimed that the existing government should be dissolved because it does not have the required number of legislators backing it in the assembly. "This government is in a minority and that's simple math," senior advocate <keyword id="195903" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukul-Rohatgi">Mukul Rohatgi</keyword>, the former Attorney General of India between 2014 to 2017 who is now representing the rebel legislators, told the court. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has offered to take a floor test to prove his strength and the trust vote will now take place on July 18.

The ruling government has managed to dodge the trust vote which requires them to prove majority, by an entire day. But they might not get any more time. The Governor of the state Vajubhai Vala set a deadline today. Vala directed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Speaker of the assembly, KR Ramesh Kumar to conduct the floor test either before or by 1:30 pm, <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/karnataka-crisis-live-updates-trust-vote-1571106-2019-07-19">as per reports</a>. The trust vote which was supposed to happen yesterday, was relentlessly delayed by the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition which might be facing an end of its run. Kumaraswamy will have to prove that his government has majority to carry on, as MLAs have been leaving his fold. BJP party members had staged an overnight dharna or protest over the delay of trust vote. Accusations, speeches and allegations between both Congress and BJP managed to delay the vote, yesterday. Finally, the state’s Governor wrote a letter to CM Kumaraswamy regarding the trust vote after senior BJP MLAs met him at the Raj Bhawan. The case of a kidnapped legislator Yesterday, the Speaker had refused to conduct the trust vote amid allegations by the Congress against the BJP for kidnapping its MLA Shreemant Patil, who had decided to take his resignation back. Speaker Ramesh Kumar had asked home minister MB Patil to give a detailed report of Shreemant after talking to his family. The Speaker said that he had received a letter in this regard named in Patil’s name, saying he would abstain from coming to the house due to health related issues. However, the Speaker asked the present Home Minister of Karnataka, MB Patil to contact Shreemath Pati’s family and give a detailed report by tomorrow. “What kind of a Speaker would I be if I proceed with a document which has no date or letterhead,” said K R Ramesh Kumar. The house was disrupted throughout the day on the issue of trust vote and when it was finally adjourned till today, BJP announced a night long strike in the assembly itself till the voting was not done. “We are demanding voting on the motion but the chief minister is reluctant to take it up as he has confirmed himself that he has lost confidence of the House and the people. Everybody knows Congress-JD(S) coalition has only 98 MLAs, we have 105,” said B S Yeddyurappa, BJP party president. Crisis mode The Karnataka state government went into a crisis mode earlier this month, after 16 of its MLAs from both the parties of the coalition government resigned. For the last two weeks, the political crisis in the state raged on, as Speaker of the Assembly refused to accept them, taking them to court. One of the rebel MLAs, Roshan Baig was also detained at Bengaluru airport and questioned, as he was stopped from taking a chartered flight, a few days back.
