With Indian stock markets touching new highs, people from states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal are participating in share markets actively, highlighted a latest report by the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The report highlighted that these three states are now leading in terms of the number of investors actively participating in the stock market, after Maharashtra and Gujarat which are traditional base of investors in the country. Maharashtra continues to lead the country in registered stock market investors, with 1.7 crore investors, making up 16.8 per cent of the total investor base, according to the National Stock Exchange. Uttar Pradesh holds the second spot, surpassing 1 crore investors in April and reaching 1.1 crore by August and holds 11.1 per cent of the total investors. Gujarat has figured at third place with 88.5 lakh investors (8.7 per cent), West Bengal with 59 lakh (5.8 per cent), and Rajasthan with 57.8 lakh (5.7 per cent). Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal combined now accounts for almost one out of every four investors in the stock markets. In its report, the NSE stated, "It is also interesting to note that the top five states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and West Bengal now comprise nearly half (48 pc) of all investors in the country." This data highlights the significant role these states are playing in shaping the overall stock market landscape in India. The report also revealed an emerging trend, the North and East India region is showing the highest growth in <keyword id="22721561" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-investor-registrations" source="keywords">new investor registrations</keyword>. Over the past year, these regions have added a substantial number of new investors, further broadening the investor base across the country. Interestingly, the report also noted that states outside the top 10 now make up 27 per cent, up from 23 per cent in FY20. Last month the Indian stock markets achieved a significant milestone as the total number of <keyword id="22721559" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="registered-investors" source="keywords">registered investors</keyword> in the country crossed the 10 crore mark in August. This achievement highlighted the growing interest and participation of the Indian population in the <keyword id="19949641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-markets" source="keywords">equity markets</keyword>, marking a momentous shift in the <keyword id="21127208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-landscape" source="keywords">financial landscape</keyword>. The data also highlighted that the journey from 9 crore to 10 crore registered investors took just five months, underscoring the rapid pace at which new investors are entering the market, meaning that an additional one crore investors joined the markets in a remarkably short period. The Indian stock market took over 25 years to reach its first crore of registered investors. However, the pace has accelerated dramatically in recent years, particularly with the influx of younger investors.

Nearly one-fourth of India's stock market investors hail from UP, Rajasthan, West Bengal: NSE

<keyword id="20459350" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-stock-markets" source="keywords">Indian stock markets</keyword> are experiencing robust growth as the number of <keyword id="19900618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investors" source="keywords">investors</keyword> rapidly increases. However, despite this surge, the number of active participants remains relatively low compared to the total registered users, though it has been rising steadily since March. According to a report by the National Stock Exchange (NSE), out of the 9.7 crore <keyword id="22721559" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="registered-investors" source="keywords">registered investors</keyword>, only 1.5 crore are active. The report highlights that active investors on the NSE surged by 13.9 % month-on-month, reaching 1.5 crore in June. This marks the third consecutive month of growth in active market users. The NSE report shows that the number of individuals trading at least once a month grew by 13.1% in June, compared to May, reflecting a strong trend in <keyword id="21427519" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-participation" source="keywords">market participation</keyword>. "The number of individual investors who traded at least once in June increased across regions. This individual investor base rose by 13.9 % month-on-month to reach 1.5 crore in June 2024," the report noted. It also points out that there has been a steady rise in active domestic investors after a decline earlier in the year, particularly in March. As of June, the number of active domestic market investors on the NSE from the top 10 states--Maharashtra, Gujarat, <keyword id="19894922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="keywords">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana--stood at 1.2 crore. Maharashtra led the increase in June, significantly contributing to the new and active investor base in the stock markets. "Following a decline in March 2024, the count of individuals who traded at least once has been on a steady rise, increasing by 13.1% month-on-month to 1.2 crore for the top 10 states in June 2024," the NSE report stated. The report also noted a year-on-year growth in the number of registered investors. The total number of registered users reached 9.7 crore at the end of June, up from approximately 7.6 crore the previous year. "The total number of registered investors stood at 9.7 crore at the end of June, up from around 7.6 crore at the same time last year," the report added. Region-wise, Southern and Eastern India saw significant increases, with active investor bases rising by 16.8 % month-on-month to 29.1 lakh and 15.6 % month-on-month to 16.7 lakh, respectively. The Northern and Western regions also experienced growth, with investor bases reaching 55 lakh and 56 lakh, respectively, in June 2024. <h2>Nifty on the rise</h2>The <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> index began on April 22, 1996, with a starting value of 1136.28 points and has recently crossed 25,000 points, marking a growth of nearly 22 times. In less than four years from its inception, the index climbed to 1592.90 points, showcasing early signs of its potential. By December 2, 2004, just before the start of 2005, the Nifty 50 achieved a historic milestone by crossing the 2000-point mark, setting the stage for further growth amid challenges. The global financial crisis of 2008 tested the resilience of the Indian stock market. At the start of the year, the Nifty 50 was trading around 6,300 points, but by the end of 2008, it had plummeted to 2,500 points, reflecting the global economic turmoil. Despite this setback, India's <keyword id="20172097" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-sector" source="keywords">financial sector</keyword> demonstrated remarkable strength. By December 31, 2009, less than a year after the crisis, the Nifty 50 had rebounded to 5,200 points. In September 2010, the Nifty index again reached the 6,000-point mark after a gap of over two years, marking a significant recovery. As 2014 began, the index was around 6,300 points, but by the end of the year, it had surged past 8,000 points, fuelled by optimism surrounding the new single-party majority government at the centre. A major milestone was achieved on July 25, 2017, when the Nifty 50 hit the 10,000-point mark, coinciding with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), a landmark reform in the Indian indirect tax structure. The market faced another significant challenge with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. The Nifty 50, which had been trading around 12,000 points in January 2020, fell dramatically to about 7,500 points by March 2020. This sharp decline was one of the most significant losses for the index in a short span. Nevertheless, the resilience of the Indian stock market was evident, as the Nifty 50 began its recovery as the pandemic subsided. The recovery was swift and robust. By 2021, the Nifty 50 surpassed the 15,000-point mark, and the rally continued unabated. On August 1, 2024, the index achieved a new milestone, reaching 25,000 points. The Nifty 50 hit the 20,000-point mark for the first time on September 11, 2023, and took 221 trading days from that level to reach 25,000 points on August 1, 2024. This journey from the early days of 1136.28 points to the recent milestone of 25,000 points underscores the evolution of the Indian financial sector and its integral role in the country's economic development. Commenting on the Nifty's journey, Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert, stated that "the journey of the Nifty reflects the growth of the Indian economy and various sectors. When the Nifty was created in the mid-1990s, the top companies were very different, from very different sectors. In these three years, IT, Pharma, Real Estate, Autoancillaries, and Telecom have emerged as new sectors with significant shares in the Nifty market cap. Going ahead, in the decades to come, there will again be a sectoral rotation as e-commerce, artificial intelligence, fintech and health tech companies rise to prominence."

Markets hit new milestones, robust surge in active traders as investor numbers soar

New Delhi [India], March 13 (ANI): Indian stock indices extended their gains from the previous to marginally rise at the opening bell Wednesday, tracking its US peers and a relative decline in retail inflation back home. At 9.30 am, Sensex was at 73,802.44 points, up 134.48 points or 0.18 per cent, and <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> was at 22,343.70 points, up 8.00 points or 0.036 per cent. Among the widely-tracked Nifty 50 stocks, 18 advanced with ITC leading the most with over 5 per cent gains, and the rest 32 declined with <keyword id="19950209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-grid" source="keywords">Power Grid</keyword> dipping the most, NSE data showed. The broader market indices continue to hover near the all-time highs they touched late last week. The indices had been firm tracking firmness in most sectoral indices coupled with overall stable macroeconomic parameters. Sensex last Wednesday crossed the 74,000 mark for the first time. Foreign portfolio investors who had aggressively sold Indian stocks and turned net sellers in the Indian equity market in January 2024 became net buyers in February and March. This has also likely buoyed the stocks of late. So far in March, they bought stocks in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> worth Rs 26,358 crore, the latest data from the <keyword id="20070086" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-securities-depository-limited" source="keywords">National Securities Depository Limited</keyword> (NSDL) showed. Retail inflation in India eased a tad in February to 5.09 per cent from 5.10 per cent the prior month, due to the deceleration of prices in all categories except food. Within food inflation, protein items (meat, egg) inflation increased exorbitantly (in the range of 400-500 basis points) in February month as compared to January. The retail inflation in India though is in <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>'s 2-6 per cent comfort level but is above the ideal 4 per cent scenario. According to an <keyword id="20112035" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi-research" source="keywords">SBI Research</keyword> report, a spatial heatmap showed that the largest weighted contribution to the current reading of retail inflation came from Maharashtra and <keyword id="19894922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="keywords">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>. "Based on all the scenarios, the current repo rate at 6.5 per cent, looks ideal. We can expect the first rate cut only in Q2FY25," SBI Research added. Barring the recent pauses, the RBI has raised the repo rate by 250 basis points cumulatively to 6.5 per cent since May 2022 in the fight against inflation. Raising interest rates is a monetary policy instrument that typically helps suppress demand in the economy, thereby helping the inflation rate decline. (ANI)

Indian stocks extend gains, marginally up at Wednesday opening bell

The Rupee tumbled 45 paise to close at 83.59 (provisional) against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> on Tuesday as the ruling <keyword id="19894848" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP" source="keywords">BJP</keyword> is unlikely to muster an absolute majority in the <keyword id="19923279" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-elections" source="keywords">Lok Sabha elections</keyword>. Besides, a massive sell-off in domestic <keyword id="19925781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equities" source="keywords">equities</keyword> and a strong <keyword id="20226143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="greenback" source="keywords">greenback</keyword> against major currencies overseas added to the gloom, <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">forex traders</keyword> said. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened weak at 83.25 and oscillated between a high of 83.23 and a low of 83.59 against the greenback during the session. The domestic currency finally closed at 83.59 (provisional) against the dollar, registering a fall of 45 paise from its previous close. On Monday, the Rupee closed at 83.14 against the US dollar. Counting of votes on Tuesday indicated disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, which appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan although it is expected to form the government with about 290 seats. On its own, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be falling below the majority mark with leads in 236 seats despite significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala, giving some solace to the party after the unexpected losses in the Hindi belt. Its rival INDIA alliance was leading in about 230 seats. In the last elections, the BJP had 303 seats on its own, while the NDA had over 350. "The rupee depreciated...today as domestic markets fell sharply amid uncertainty over election results outcome. This may have also led to some sell-off by <keyword id="19900795" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-investors" source="keywords">foreign investors</keyword>. The US dollar recovered from yesterday's losses on the weak Euro, which fell on disappointing employment data. The US dollar fell on Monday on weaker than expected ISM manufacturing PMI and construction spending," Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.17 per cent higher at 104.25. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, dropped 1.88 per cent to USD 76.89 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> crashed 4,389.73 points, or 5.74 per cent, to close at 72,079.05. The broader NSE <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> tumbled 1,379.40 points or 5.93 per cent to 21,884.50. Foreign investors were net buyers of Indian equities on Monday as they purchased shares worth Rs 6,850.76 crore on a net basis. FIIs bought shares worth Rs 23,451.26 crore and sold equities worth Rs 16,600.50 crore in the cash segment.

Rupee plunges 45 paise to close at 83.59 against US dollar

This is the first public appearance from the Adani family in the country since a damning report by a US short-seller caused a USD 140 billion rout in shares of the group's listed companies. Senior Adani was a notable absentee at a similar investor summit organised by the Uttar Pradesh government in Lucknow last month. Gautam Adani had attended the previous UP investor summit. Karan Adani said currently, Adani Group operates the two largest private ports in Andhra Pradesh - Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram, with a total capacity of 100 million tonnes per annum. "In the next 5 years, not only do we aim to double this capacity, but also transform these ports into industrial port cities," he said. "By developing industrial clusters at Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram and attracting industries, we will be able to reduce the logistics costs drastically, thus making these industries far more competitive globally." The group is also developing 15,000 MW of renewable power projects over the next few years across five districts of Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. "Our other investments in the state include cement manufacturing units and data centres. Presently we do not have any cement manufacturing capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Hence, as part of our expansion plans, we will be setting up cement plants in Kadapa and Nadikudi with a total capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum," he said. Also, the group is working on developing a 400 MW of data centre in Visakhapatnam. "These projects will bring further employment opportunities and demonstrate our commitment to the sustainable growth of the state of Andhra Pradesh," he said. He praised Andhra Pradesh for its "excellent infrastructure, large manufacturing base, talented youth, and business-friendly environment." With the second longest coastline in India, the state has been recognised by the World Bank as the No.1 implementer of energy efficiency and conservation programmes. Turning to CSR work being done by Adani Foundation, he said "our footprint in the state of Andhra Pradesh is getting bigger as I speak on this occasion." "We are investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, access to potable water, sports and building an ecosystem of skilling and sustainable livelihood in the state. Our teams are executing programs in Nellore, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam districts. At present, we have invested over Rs 4200 crore and are touching over 180,000 lives and counting, in the state," he added. Its social intervention and outreach programs across 74 villages include education programs that span across schools, 32 evening education centres with scholarship programs and the distribution of education kits. "We will continue to partner with the government to transform lives &amp; livelihoods in the state. Adani to set up cement plants, data centre in Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi, Mar 28 (PTI) Petrol price on Monday was hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise, taking the total increase in rates in the last one week to Rs 4-4.10 per litre. Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 99.41 per litre as against Rs 99.11 previously while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 90.42 per litre to Rs 90.77, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers. Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending upon the incidence of local taxation. This is the sixth increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22. In the first four four occasions, prices were increased by 80 paise a litre - the steepest single-day rise since the daily price revision was introduced in June 2017. On Sunday, petrol price went up by 50 paise a litre and diesel by 55 paise. In all, petrol prices have gone up by Rs 4 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.10. Prices had been on a freeze since November 4 ahead of the assembly elections in states like <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and Punjab -- a period during which the cost of raw material (crude oil) soared by about USD 30 per barrel. The rate revision was expected soon after counting of votes on March 10 but it was put off by a couple of weeks. The increase in retail price warranted from crude oil prices rising during the 137 day hiatus from around USD 82 per barrel to USD 120 is huge but state-owned fuel retailers <keyword id="6356834" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation" source="Orion">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> (IOC), <keyword id="155363" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharat-petroleum-corporation-ltd" source="Orion">Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd</keyword> (BPCL) and <keyword id="500127" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="hindustan-petroleum-corporation-ltd" source="Orion">Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd</keyword> (HPCL) are passing on the required increase in stages. Moody's Investors Services last week stated that state retailers together lost around USD 2.25 billion (Rs 19,000 crore) in revenue for keeping petrol and diesel prices on hold during the election period. Oil companies "will need to raise diesel prices by Rs 13.1-24.9 per litre and Rs 10.6-22.3 a litre on gasoline (petrol) at an underlying crude price of USD 100-120 per barrel," according to Kotak Institutional Equities. CRISIL Research said a Rs 9-12 per litre increase in retail price will be required for a full pass-through of an average USD 100 per barrel crude oil and Rs 15-20 a litre hike if the average crude oil price rises to USD 110-120. India is 85 per cent dependent on imports for meeting its oil needs and so retail rates adjust accordingly to the global movement. Petrol, diesel prices hiked for the sixth time in two weeks

LED lighting solution provider <keyword id="15151029" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ikio-lighting" source="Orion">IKIO Lighting</keyword> Ltd on Thursday said it has fixed a price band of Rs 270-285 per share for its Rs 606-crore initial public offering (<keyword id="6354763" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ipo" source="Orion">IPO</keyword>). The issue will be open for public subscription during June 6-8 and the bidding for anchor investors will open on June 5, the Noida-based company said in a statement. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of equity shares worth up to Rs 350 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) of up to 90 lakh equity stocks by promoters Hardeep Singh and <keyword id="2491354" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="surmeet-kaur" source="Orion">Surmeet Kaur</keyword>. At the upper end of the price band, the initial share-sale will fetch Rs 606.5 crore. Proceeds from the fresh issuance worth Rs 50 crore will be used for debt payment, Rs 212.31 crore will be used in the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, <keyword id="17582560" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ikio-solutions" source="Orion">IKIO Solutions</keyword>, to set up a new facility at Noida, <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, and for general corporate purposes. Further, investors can bid for a minimum of 52 equity shares and in multiples of 52 equity shares thereafter. IKIO Lighting is a manufacturer of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions. It is primarily an original design manufacturer (ODM) and designs, develops, manufactures and supplies products to customers who then further distribute these products under its brands. It has four manufacturing facilities with one located in the SIDCUL Haridwar industrial park in Uttarakhand and three in Noida in the National Capital Region. IKIO Lighting's revenue from operations jumped 55.47 per cent on year-on-year basis to Rs 331.84 crore in fiscal 2022 from Rs 213.45 crore in fiscal 2021 and profit after tax surged 75.37 per cent to Rs 50.52 crore from Rs 28.81 crore during the period. Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors is the sole book-running lead manager to the issue. The equity shares are proposed to be listed on the BSE and NSE. It operates across 26 states and Union Territories with 830 banking outlets serving 3.6 million customers majorly located in rural and semi-urban areas primarily in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Its total income was at ₹2,804 crore in FY23, which grew by 37% over the year before. Its FY22 net profit however was a blip and fell to ₹61 crore, even as it recovered in FY23 to ₹404 crore. The bank's gross loan portfolio grew to ₹13,957.11 crore as of March 31, 2023, from ₹8,415.66 crore as of March 31, 2021. Its disbursements increased to ₹12,442.89 crore in fiscal 2023 from ₹5,914.01 crore in fiscal 2021. Also, deposits surged to ₹13,710.14 crore from ₹7,507.57 crore during the period. The bank said in its RHP that it is subject to inspections by regulatory authorities, including by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and non-compliance or adverse observations may have a material adverse effect on its business, financial condition, results of operation or cash flows. Incidentally, its former auditors, Haribhakti &amp; Co. LLP, have been debarred by the RBI from undertaking audit assignments for entities regulated by them for two years, with effect from April 1, 2022. The bank also received a showcause notice from markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) regarding alleged non-compliance of provisions of Companies Act 2013. Hold or sell after listing? Most analysts recommend subscribing to the issue on account of attractive valuations as compared to its peers but are divided on how long investors should hold on to it. “At the upper price band, the company is valued at a P/B of 1.39x with a return on net worth of 20.22%. We believe that the company is fairly priced and recommend a Subscribe-Long term rating to the IPO,” said Anand Rathi. SBI Securities also admits that it’s fairly priced compared to its close peers on similar valuation parameters. “We recommend investors to subscribe the IPO for listing at cut-off price,” it says. “Considering its resilient performance post Covid, consistent growth in loan book and deposits, healthy return ratios, best cost to income ratio, pan India presence and promising industry outlook, we assign a “Subscribe” rating on a short to medium-term basis,” says an IPO note by Geojit.

Weekend restrictions to continue in Uttar Pradesh

The police in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>'s Bulandshahr district have lodged an FIR against two senior officials of <keyword id="749437" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter-India">Twitter India</keyword> over the social media platform putting up a distorted map of <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>. The FIR was lodged at the Khurja Nagar police station on Monday evening on the basis of a complaint by an office-bearer of right wing Bajrang Dal. The map, which showed the Union Territories of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir outside India, was noticed on Monday, leading to an uproar by <keyword id="50390" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Netizens">netizens</keyword>. <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> had removed that map on Monday evening. "The world map does not show Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir as parts of India. This is not a coincidence. This act has hurt the sentiments of Indians, including me," Bajrang Dal's western UP convenor Praveen Bhati said in the complaint. The FIR names Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari and News Partnerships Head Amrita Tripathi as accused who have been booked under Indian Penal Code section 505 (2) (public mischief). Charges under Information Technology Act section 74 (publication for fraudulent purpose) have also been invoked in the case, according to the FIR, seen by PTI. The map's glaring distortion, which appeared on the career section of Twitter website under the header 'Tweep Life', had triggered a heavy backlash from netizens on Monday as they demanded strict action against the microblogging platform that has flouted various rules on multiple occasions in the past. Uttar Pradesh police book Twitter India head over a distorted Indian map shown on the social media platform

Bobde on Tuesday came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh administration. He said the state has been suffering as someone with 64 cases was released on bail. The Chief Justice, citing the Vikas Dubey case, told the petitioner's counsel: "Your client is a dangerous man. We cannot release him on bail. See what happened in the other case." The petitioner sought bail on medical ground, as he was suffering from several diseases. The prosecution pointed out there were 8 criminal cases against him at one police station, and contended before the bench that how a person with such a criminal background could be released from jail. In the Vikas Dubey encounter case, <keyword id="1216064" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-apex-court">the apex court</keyword> had also asked the former apex court judge headed committee to examine how Dubey with so many cases was released on bail. The UP government had informed the apex court that Dubey brutally massacred 8 policemen using 90 criminals of his gang and then mutilated their bodies. Dubey was serving a life sentence and he was out on parole when this massacre happened on July 2. On July 20, the apex court had told the Uttar Pradesh government that it is appalled that Vikas Dubey was released on bail despite so many cases against him and this shows the failure of the institution to keep someone like him behind bars. "If they have made certain statements and then something has followed, you should look into this," said the Chief Justice. The bench said it is appalled at the fact that a person like Dubey was let out on bail, and this shows failure of an institution. "We want an accurate report of all the orders," added the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice also added "What is at stake is not that one incident in UP. What is at stake is the whole system. Remember that." Senior advocate <keyword id="6372817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="harish-salve">Harish Salve</keyword>, representing UP police, had contended before the bench that "we can't demoralise the police force". Chief Justice of India  criticizes Uttar Pradesh for releasing a criminal with 64 cases on bail

"A journalist working with a Hindi news channel was shot dead on Monday night in Phephana. He has been identified as Ratan Singh (45)," Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Yadav said. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said four people, Dinesh Singh, Arvind Singh, Suneel Singh and Moti Singh, have been arrested in this connection. According to the police, the journalist was involved in a property dispute with his neighbour Dinesh Singh. "Ratan had a dispute regarding property with his neighbor. On Monday evening, there was a fight between the two sides, and the neighbour shot at him. Accused Dinesh Singh is also Ratan Singh's parcener," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said. A senior officer said cross FIRs were registered against both the parties in 2019 in connection with the property dispute. A case was registered against Ratan Singh, but his name was later cleared, he said. Talking about Monday's incident, Kumar asserted that the reason behind Ratan's murder was property dispute and not related to the journalist's work. "Action under the National Security Act and Gangster Act will also be taken against the four accused," he added. </td></tr></tbody></table> According to a report by Religare Broking in a report, “GR Infraprojects is well placed in the infrastructure space with a large focus on executing road projects as the majority of the revenue is earned from this segment (close to 98-99%). We have a positive view of the company from the long term perspective, given government support to the infrastructure sector, high experience in the execution of road projects, technical capabilities and stable financials.” Strong order book and financial performance Over the last two decades, GR Infra has transformed itself from a small regional player to a pan-India EPC company. Order book of the company grew from a meagre ₹1,700 crore in FY14 to a massive ₹19,000 crore, said a report by Prabhudas Lilladher. Its revenue has seen strong 33% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the last three years (much higher than listed peers), primarily driven by strong order intake and expansion in new geographies The company has three manufacturing facilities -- one each in Rajasthan, Assam and Uttar Pradesh -- for the manufacturing of key raw materials and also a fabrication and galvanizing unit in Gujarat. All these enable it to be less dependent on third party equipment providers and also efficiently manage its project execution schedules. In FY19, FY20 and FY21, the company executed 80%, 50% and 50%, respectively, of the projects prior to the completion dates, said Choice Broking in a report. Robust track record With over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, GR Infraprojects’ promoters and management team have a track record of timely executing over 100 road construction projects since 2006. “With superior project management capabilities and integrated business model, the company received ₹280 crore as early completion bonus in its projects,” said a report by Prabhudas Lilladher. The company’s order book of ₹19,000 crore is well diversified across the country (Uttar Pradesh -- 23%, Madhya Pradesh -- 18%, Maharashtra -- 14%, Gujarat -- 13%), but concentrated in the roads segment at 97%.
