New Delhi, The government on Wednesday announced hiking the <keyword id="20069652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sugarcane" source="keywords">sugarcane</keyword> <keyword id="20544473" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="frp" source="keywords">FRP</keyword> by Rs 25 to Rs 340 per quintal for the 2024-25 season starting October. Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) is the minimum price that mills have to pay to sugarcane growers. The decision to increase the FRP of sugarcane was taken at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword>. The Rs 25 per quintal hike is the highest by the Modi government and the move comes ahead of the general elections. Sugarcane is grown mainly in Maharashtra, <keyword id="19894922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="keywords">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, and Karnataka. "Keeping in view interest of sugarcane farmers (GannaKisan), the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane for sugar season 2024-25 (October - September) at Rs 340 per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10.25 per cent," I&amp;B Minister <keyword id="19895497" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anurag-thakur" source="keywords">Anurag Thakur</keyword> said at a media briefing. The FRP has been determined on the basis of recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and after consultation with state governments and other stakeholders.

<keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> Chief Minister <keyword id="43254" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yogi-adityanath" source="Orion">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> on Sunday expanded his cabinet by inducting seven new <keyword id="6364618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministers" source="Orion">ministers</keyword>. All the new ministers were administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Anandiben Patel at a hurriedly convened ceremony at the <keyword id="138" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Bhavan" source="Orion">Raj Bhavan</keyword>, in the presence of the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues. Among those who were sworn in are one cabinet minister and six ministers of state. The much-awaited expansion comes barely months before the state is preparing for assembly elections in early 2022. Through this expansion, the BJP has made it clear that it will focus on OBCs and SC/ST categories to ensure its return to power in next year's assembly elections. While Jitin Prasada, who has been sworn in as cabinet minister, is the lone Brahmin leader to get a place in Sunday's expansion, the remaining six belong to OBC (three) and Scheduled Caste (two) and Scheduled Tribe (one). The six ministers of state who were sworn in are -- Sanjeev Gond (ST-Sonbhadra), Dharamvir Prajapati (OBC-Agra), Chhatrapal Gangwar (OBC-Bareilly), Sangita Balwant Bind (OBC-Ghazipur), Paltu Ram (SC- Balrampur) and Dinesh Khatik (SC-Meerut). Apart from ensuring a caste balance, the party has also made sure to provide representation to all parts of the state. A surprise omission in Sunday's list is the name of Arvind Kumar Sharma, a former bureaucrat in the PMO who had taken voluntary retirement in January this year to join politics. He came to Lucknow and was immediately made member of the UP legislative council. It was believed that he would soon be inducted into the ministry and given an important portfolio, however that did not happen. There are 53 ministers in the UP cabinet at present, and seven more could be inducted as per the constitutional limit. This is the third time the Yogi cabinet has been expanded since the Chief Minister was first sworn in on March 19, 2017. As many as 23 new ministers were inducted into the cabinet on August 21, 2019. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath adds seven new ministers including Jitin Prasada ahead of polls

The <keyword id="6355512" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Cabinet" source="Orion">Union Cabinet</keyword> on Wednesday approved the much-anticipated <keyword id="8870884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production-linked-incentive" source="Orion">production linked incentive</keyword> (PLI) scheme for the textiles sector. Under the scheme incentives worth ₹10,683 crore will be provided over five years. According to the government, the move will especially positively impact states like Gujarat, <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>, <keyword id="13126" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra" source="Orion">Maharashtra</keyword>, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha among others. The government expects investments of more than ₹19,000 crore into the sector during the five-year period. It is also expected to bring about additional production turnover of over ₹3 lakh crore during the period and create employment opportunities of over 7.5 lakh people directly and several lakhs more for supporting activities, as per the government. The government will give higher priority for investment in the aspirational districts and tier-3 cities. Industry participants have lauded the decision of the government. Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman A. Sakthivel said that it will be a game changer for the Indian textile industry and will transform India's growth story. Sakthivel said that the scheme will result in fresh investment of gigantic proportions, expand manufacturing capacities and enhance exports multifold. "It will make India a key player in the global textile value chain with focus on high value MMF products. Besides, it will promote industrial development in backward regions of the country," he added. The focus of the <keyword id="8941225" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PLI-SCHEME" source="Orion">PLI scheme</keyword> would be for the development of man-made fibre and technical fibre segments that are in high demand in advanced economies where India already has a big presence with its technical products. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that fabric and garments made from these fibres would be a focus of the scheme so that world class facilities are built in the country. He also said that the government was also working on free trade agreements (FTAs) with advanced economies such as the UK, the US, EU that will help the country both ways to get requisition imports as well boost exports. FTA would also help the textile sector, the minister said, in getting a level playing field that faced unequal duties in some of these markets. Union Cabinet approves PLI scheme worth ₹10,683 crore for textiles

"Samrat Prithviraj", which is all set to release in theatres countrywide on June 3, depicts the life of legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan, played by Akshay Kumar. Chillar stars in the movie as Princess Sanyogita. Akshay had said that the film was based on the life and daredevilry of the "last Hindu Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan who shed every drop of blood in his body to defend Bharatmata". "Our film salutes the courage and valour of the mighty king and we hope that the people of our nation are inspired by his values of protecting his motherland at any cost," the actor had said, according to a press release. On Tuesday, the team held a screening of the film for Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles. A Yash Raj Films production, the movie is scheduled to be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Akshay Kumar's Samrat Prithviraj declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, Poll strategist <keyword id="4300245" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sunil-kanugolu" source="Orion">Sunil Kanugolu</keyword> has yet again proven to be the man with the Midas touch, plotting the Congress' amazing turnaround in Telangana months after being the architect of the grand old party's return to power in Karnataka. Starting with Prashant Kishor's I-PAC, Kanugolu was largely credited for shaping the Congress' win in Karnataka and was later accorded Cabinet rank in the Siddaramaiah government. This time, Kanugolu along with PCC chief A Revanth Reddy formed a formidable pair to chalk out the Congress' strategy to pull down the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS government that was eying a third term in the southern state. The Congress was headed for victory in Telangana while it was staring at crushing defeats in the Hindi heartland states of <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Kanugolu had also made forays in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following a directive from the party's central leadership but regional satraps Ashok Gehlot and Kamal Nath reportedly were not on the same page as the poll strategist. Ahead of the Rajasthan elections, Kanugolu had made an assessment about the winnability of probable candidates but Gehlot reportedly did not agree to his suggestions and brought in Naresh Arora's Designboxed to construct the Congress government's narrative in the run-up to the assembly polls. Sources say that the success of Kanugolu in Karnataka and Telangana was the result of the free hand given to him and allowing his team to work freely. Kanugolu, who hails from Karnataka and is in his early 40s, has been considered largely as the brain behind the Congress' narrative in Karnataka with the 'PayCM' campaign against the BJP. In the run-up to the polls in Telangana, he highlighted the alleged corruption of the K Chandrashekhar Rao dispensation as part of Congress' campaign that seemed to have struck a chord with the people. The campaigns run by the Congress in Karnataka and Telangana have been very similar as both highlighted the alleged graft of the ruling dispensation and projected welfare guarantees that seemed to have struck an instant connection with the public. Interestingly, Kanugolu has also been involved in several BJP poll campaigns in the past. In 2018, he worked with the BJP in Karnataka and the party managed to become the single largest party with 104 seats. He had also worked on Narendra Modi's campaign in 2014, as well as the party's political campaigns in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Kanugolu, a former consultant with McKinsey, was also associated with DMK chief MK Stalin and oversaw the party's '<keyword id="3576832" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="namakku-naame" source="Orion">Namakku Naame</keyword>' (we are for ourselves) campaign during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2021, he also worked with AIADMK against the DMK and led the party to win 75 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Kanugolu had joined the Congress last year and worked closely with the Karnataka campaign. He is also credited with strategising <keyword id="5268" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rahul-gandhi" source="Orion">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>'s cross-country 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Kashmir last year. Having delivered Karnataka and Telangana to the Congress, Kanugolu is likely to be given more responsibilities by the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

This chief minister is spending ₹2.2 million to skill his cabinet at one of India's top B-schools

The <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> government has approved yoga guru Ramdev-promoted <keyword id="6356684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="patanjali">Patanjali</keyword> Ayurveda's (PAL) Rs 2,000 crore food park in <keyword id="6356788" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Greater-Noida">Greater Noida</keyword> and around 450 acres of land on the <keyword id="6359591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yamuna-Expressway">Yamuna Expressway</keyword> will be allocated for the unit, according to a news by the agency. 
 "Earlier this week, the <keyword id="512165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh-cabinet">Uttar Pradesh Cabinet</keyword> has approved PAL's Rs 2,000-crore project in the state, which includes an agro-processing plant entailing an investment of Rs 1,500 crore in Greater Noida," a source privy to development said. 
 
"Around 450 acres of land have been identified, which will be allocated to the Greater Noida plant. The land will be bought by PAL." 
 The state <keyword id="6355513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="cabinet">Cabinet</keyword> approval comes amid speculation that Patanjali will announce its investment in Uttar Pradesh after assembly polls in March next year. However, the Uttar Pradesh government has been proactive in facilitating this investment on its terms only to encourage investors and create jobs. 
 
Earlier, the company officials had confirmed the development, saying the procedure for identification of the land is at an advanced stage and the unit can be near the Yamuna Expressway. 
 
The Greater Noida plant will be an international food park that will cater to overseas and domestic markets as well. 
 Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna has held a series of meetings with CEO of the <keyword id="80359" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yamuna-Expressway-Industrial-Development-Authority">Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority</keyword> (YEIDA) in this regard. After the land allotment, the unit can be made operational in 12-18 months. 
 The food park in Greater Noida is slated to manufacture all major products. It is expected to act as a hub given its location in the <keyword id="53426" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCR">NCR</keyword> region, which has proximity to the airport and dry ports. 
 
The plant, at full capacity, will produce goods worth Rs 25,000 crore annually. It is expected to generate around 10,000 direct jobs that can benefit nearly 50,000 families. 
 Patanjali is also in the process of setting up units in <keyword id="6355554" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword>, <keyword id="6354915" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Assam">Assam</keyword>, Maharashtra and <keyword id="6357972" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu">Jammu</keyword> and Kashmir.

<keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword>’s Assembly elections are just around the corner and in order to become voters’ favourite candidates, political parties have already started doing everything they can do. In a bid to woo voters, Akhilesh Yadav-led UP Government, yet again played the caste card, and gave a nod to include 17 Other Backward Castes in the Scheduled Castes (SC) list. 
 The cabinet meeting, presided by Chief Minister <keyword id="6355031" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akhilesh-Yadav">Akhilesh Yadav</keyword>, cleared the proposal in this regard. 
 
As per the officials, the proposal that is aimed at wooing the OBCs in the coming elections, will now be sent to the Centre for clearance. 
 
There are 17 sub-castes which the government wants included in the SC category are Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Nishad, Bind, Bhar, Prajapati, Rajbhar, Batham, Gaur, Tura, Majhi, Mallah, Kumhar, Dheemar and Machua. 
 Before this, in March 2013, the <keyword id="396713" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh-assembly">Uttar Pradesh Assembly</keyword> had passed a resolution asking the Centre to include 17 castes of the state into the list of Scheduled Castes (SC) category. 
 In the resolution presented by Social Welfare Minister <keyword id="1401615" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Avdhesh-Prasad">Avdhesh Prasad</keyword> and passed by the voice vote in the House, it was stated that in a detailed study by UP SC/ST Research and Training Institute, these 17 castes have been found "deserving" to be included in the list of Scheduled Castes (SC). 
 The <keyword id="6357168" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mulayam-Singh-Yadav">Mulayam Singh Yadav</keyword> government too had passed the resolution in the state Cabinet in February 2004 and had sent recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of these castes in SC list in December 2004.

Akhilesh Yadav plays caste-based politics in run up to UP polls, presses to get 17 OBCs on the SC list

For a man who has been elected to the Parliament eight times, Santosh Gangwar has remained a low-profile man within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Finally, he has received the biggest role he has ever held in the government. 71-year old Gangwar has been appointed a minister of state with independent charge for labour and employment. Gangwar has been elected from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh since 1989, except once in 2009 when he lost by a narrow margin. He was Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Textile till 2016, after which he was sworn in as Minister of State for Finance. He worked on the roll out of the goods and services tax. In April 2018, Gangwar stirred controversy by saying that one should not make a big deal about rape in a country as large as India, <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/rapes-are-unfortunate-but-can-t-be-stopped-says-union-minister-1217474-2018-04-22" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">according to a news report</a>. The statement came after two incidents of sexual assault of minors where BJP leaders were implicated. <ul><li><keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword> returns to be a Cabinet Minister with two ministries – Women &amp; Child Development along with Textiles.</li><li>Irani is the BJP MP from <keyword id="6360791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="amethi">Amethi</keyword>.</li><li>She defeated Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the Amethi constituency.</li></ul>The Narendra Modi government has duly rewarded its star performer Smriti Irani, by allocating her two portfolios – Women &amp; Child Development along with Textiles. Irani, the BJP MP from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh managed a spectacular win this election against Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi. Irani, who held the Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&amp;B) before the country went into elections, had been shuffled around many times in the cabinet. She had held the Human Resource Development Ministry and also Textiles later. The former television actress had entered politics in 2003, as she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Though she had lost to Rahul Gandhi at Amethi during the 2014 general elections, she managed a stunning turnaround with her relentless campaigning this time around. She had managed to cut Gandhi’s vote share by 12%, in the traditional Congress stronghold. Irani had ran elections for a Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 2004 from Chandni Chowk in Delhi. <ul><li>Rajnath Singh, a veteran politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been vested with the charge of Defence ministry. </li><li>He is one of the top three ministers in the new cabinet of Narendra Modi government for a second term. </li><li>Singh won the seat from Lucknow with a margin of 340,00 votes against Poonam Sinha, wife of Shatrughan Sinha, a rebel BJP leader.</li></ul>Rajnath Singh, a veteran politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been vested with the charge of Defence ministry. He is one of the top three ministers in the new cabinet of Narendra Modi government for a second term. Singh won the seat from Lucknow with a margin of 340,00 votes against Poonam Sinha, wife of Shatrughan Sinha, a rebel BJP leader. Rajnath Singh has been a politician for over 40 years. The first time he became a member of the state legislative assembly was in 1977. He served as BJP's party president from 2005 to 2009 and from 2013 to 2014. He was also the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous and politically significant state, in 2000. Singh was inducted into the Union Cabinet as in charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs after BJP's landslide victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In his own words, the ministry's biggest achievement in the last five years was the curbing insurgency in the north-eastern part of India. <ul><li>Singer Babul Supriyo, the BJP MP from Asansol in West Bengal swears into Modi’s cabinet. The swearing in ceremony is striving to make Modi’s guests from his constituency in Varanasi feel special. A special gallery called ‘Kashi Sankul’ is being set-up to accommodate 250 special guests from Uttar Pradesh. The event however is not without its controversies. The winning party BJP invited the families of those killed in the West Bengal political violence which erupted just before the last phase of polling. This move angered Mamata Banerjee the chief minister of the state and the head of Trinamool Congress, who declined an invitation to the attend the ceremony. BJP’s ally in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena slammed Banerjee for this move, in an editorial published in its mouthpiece Saamna.
