Ghari, which was ranked second largest washing powder company in India by <keyword id="6361649" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword> report, is giving tough time to <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> (HUL) and <keyword id="6361491" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Procter-Gamble">Procter &amp; Gamble</keyword> HUL and P&amp;G have been fighting pricing and marketing wars with local players to stay in the <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> in the laundry segment for more than a decade. However, Ghari, made by the Kanpur-based Rohit Surfactants Pvt Ltd (RSPL) Group, is still a regional player and ahead of big companies. 

	The report that cited Nielsen data, stated Ghari w was fast narrowing down the gap with HUL that has three brands in the segment — Wheel, Rin and Surf. 
 

	It appears that consumer demand has increased which is a good news for the industry. It seems such recovery would boost growth and economic development in the country. 
 Meanwhile, in the oral care segment, HUL is facing competition by Colgate, while Japanese company <keyword id="702101" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Unicharm">Unicharm</keyword> is giving P&amp;G's Pampers a run for their money in baby diapers with its Mamy Poko brand. 

	According to the report, Unicharm is now the second largest diaper maker, overtaking Kimberly Clark's Huggies.

Meanwhile, the country's birth rate is falling – it hit its <a href="https://www.insider.com/china-3-child-policy-combat-aging-population-2021-5">lowest level last year</a> since 1952.The demographic shift means some diaper manufacturers are already refocusing their marketing to promote their products to older customers.Unicharm, one of the top sellers of diapers in China, appears to be one of them. Citing sources close to the company, the FT reported that Unicharm is now devoting more of its marketing dollars to adult diapers than infant diapers. A spokesperson for the company declined to comment on this.The owner of a diaper factory in Hubei, China, told the FT that it had pivoted to making diapers for adults rather than infants, and it's already seeing "strong demand."The adult diaper market in China is expected to be worth $30 billion by 2040, according to data from analysts CLSA.Marketing and selling adult diapers has been a historically tricky business because of the stigma around the products.<a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-diapers-adults-focus-idUSKBN1X10G0">Reuters</a> reported in 2019 that two diaper manufacturers, Essity and Kimberly-Clark, estimated that only half of the more than 400 million adults that are likely to be affected by weak bladders are buying the correct products, because they are embarrassed."People keep the fact that they have incontinence secret from their loved ones, from their husbands, brothers, and sisters – this is a deep secret for many consumers and yet it's just a fact of life, it's a physiological reality," a spokesperson for Kimberly-Clark told Reuters at the time.
