Now, the ride time charge will be Rs 1.5 per minute. Earlier it was Re 1. 
 
Uber now charges Rs 6 per km up to 20 km and Rs 12 per km thereafter. 
 The ride time charges -- calculated on the basis of total time of the ride -- for '<keyword id="6591085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="UberPool">UberPOOL</keyword>' and 'UberX' have also been hiked to Rs 1.5 per minute. 
 
When contacted, an Uber spokesperson said: "Starting January 5, 2017, we have made some changes to our pricing structure in Delhi, NCR in order to serve the city better." 
 
Last year, Uber had introduced 'upfront fare' under which the company calculates and shows rates depending on expected time and distance of travel and local traffic. The fares fluctuate due to demand. 
 
Affordable pricing has been one of the important factors driving the uptake of on-demand taxi services in the country. 
 
Uber in engaged in an intense battle in the Indian market with local rival Ola as well as radio taxi operators like Meru. 
 
The company, which operates in 29 Indian cities, counts India as its second largest market, after the US.

The ride-hailing applications have begun increasing charges in top urban areas, diminishing the sum they have been paying as incentives to drivers. The companies are also keeping a tight watch on fraudulent drivers. 
 
This is all focused toward ‘unit economics’ or the amount of money they get or loose on every customer. According to investors and analysts tracking the ride hailing app business, Ola and Uber each burn $30-40 million every month. 
 
"Subsidies won't last forever, and customers need to slowly get used to it. This is a step in that direction," a person briefed on Uber India's plans told ET. 
 
"We are always working to make Uber the most affordable mobility option for our riders and an attractive economic opportunity for hundreds of thousands of microentrepreneurs on our platform," an Uber spokesperson told ET. 
 
Ola has cut driver incentives in light of the quantity of trips completed by as much as 20-40% in Delhi when contrasted with a year back. For example, drivers finishing eight treks with Ola in Delhi now get a motivation of Rs 2,400 when contrasted with Rs 3,000 a year back 
 
Uber has also remodeled its incentive model to reward drivers based on earnings and the incentive won’t be based on the number of trips. 
 
"For shorter distances, the base fare partially takes care of the cost, but the longer the distance, the more cash we end up spending and it's an added cost for both Uber and Ola," a source told ET. 
 
The added advantage of raising fares is that it could push riders towards the car-pooling service operated by them. 
 
Uber has increased the price for trips more than 15 kms in Bengaluru and Hyderabad a year back. The reason given was that it was to incentivize drivers to accept long-distance booking. Recently, they have increased the fares for distances beyond Delhi-NCR region. Ola too, is following the same structure. 
 These measures come after Ola and Uber also increased fares for most popular categories, <keyword id="6464993" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Micro">Micro</keyword> and <keyword id="2604816" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="UberGo">UberGo</keyword>, respectively. After 20 km, customers will be charged Rs 12/km on UberGo and Rs 13/km on UberX. Up to 20 km, they will still ride at Rs 6/km on Uber-Go and Rs 9/km on UberX, the company said on its website. The base fare on both categories remains the same. 
 
Ola Micro too charged Rs 6/km up to 20 km and Rs 12/km for additional distance, matching Uber prices. 
 
"The focus is on building a real business now. The supply game on quantity in Ola's view beyond a point does not build anything of value," said an investor in Ola.

With comparatively affordable fare, UberGo will lock horns with <keyword id="6362049" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ola-Cabs">Ola Cabs</keyword>, TaxiForSure and other domestic cab services. The company said that the fare will be similar to that of an auto. 
 
UberGo has roped in hatchbacks like the Toyota Etios Liva, Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Tata Indica Vista and Maruti Suzuki Swift. As an introductory offer, it is giving a discount of 25%. It will charge Rs 30 as base fare and additional Rs 9 per km and 75 paise per minute. The minimum fare would be Rs 60. 
 
The company has launched this service in 10 cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Kolkata.

 On Monday, the Road Transport Association had announced to ban Uber cab services and all other web-based radio taxis in <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>. However, it seems that the ban was just an eyewash. On Tuesday itself, we were able to book an Uber cab from Kalkaji to Aero City (which is very close to the T3 airport) and come back using the Ola Cab services. 
 
Though we realise that banning cabs and taxis is not the permanent solution to arrest the case of rapes happening all across India, but it is shocking to see that the company of such repute flouts rules to this extend.

Uber Cabs Continue to Work Despite the Ban

After Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the ride-hailing major <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> on Monday launched a PIN-dispatch feature at the Indira Gandhi International Airport which will give riders a one-time PIN upon requesting a trip, thus reducing wait times. Now, when riders request an UberGo at the IGI international airport in the capital, they will receive a unique 6-digit PIN which will be used to match them to the first available driver at the pickup zone, reducing waiting times to almost zero. "The users just need to request an UberGo trip to receive a 6-digit personal identification number (PIN). Walk to the Uber pickup zone, and join the line. Share the unique PIN with the first available driver. Verify vehicle and driver details before you get into the vehicle,'' the company said in a statement. For a safe and secure experience, the riders will also receive the driver and vehicle details for additional verification checks. Uber initially launched the PIN-dispatch feature at Bengaluru and Hyderabad Airports, resulting in an 80 per cent reduction of wait times and improved traffic flow at the dedicated pickup areas. Earlier this month, Uber deployed 100 e-rickshaws across 26 Delhi Metro stations for the last-mile connectivity as well as short distance commutes.

 You must have by now heard about Ola and Uber planning to raise their fares. This comes as real bad news for all the commuters who had started relying heavily on Ola and Uber taxis for their daily commute, owing to their economical pricing over the exorbitant fares charged by local taxis and autos. However, it seems commute is going to be a big problem all over again. 
 
Both cab aggregators have announced they are increasing their prices in the lowest category of cabs - the bracket used mostly by the middle and upper- middle class commuters. 
 
In Delhi, where Ola was charging Rs 6 per km apart from the base fare of Rs 40 for its Micro cabs, it will now be charging almost double - Rs 12 per km after the first 20 km. 
 
Same is the case with Uber. In Delhi for instance, an UberGo commuter will now have to pay Rs 12 per km after the initial 20 km against Rs 6 per km they were paying before. 
 
In Pune, the cost has been fixed at Rs 15 per kilometre for UberGo rides beyond the first 15 km. For Vizag it’s Rs 12 per kilometre after first 15 km and for Kolkata, it is Rs 12 per km after first 10 km. 
 
Similarly the Ola commuters in Bangalore would also need to shell out Rs 12 per km as compared to Rs 6 all through the journey earlier. 
For Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, the fare scheme for Ola Micro is same as Bangalore. 
 
Both Ola and Uber have taken this move to earn profits, as per the news reports. However, this price war also poses the right opportunity for rivals like Meru Cabs to grab their share in the market. 
 
Interestingly, Meru is already giving discounts to customers. It has recently introduced Exactometer, a system where the rider needs to pay exactly the fare estimated before the start of the trip, to counter the disruptive fare rates of Ola and Uber. 
 
It remains to be seen how this steep fare hike will go down with customers, and who really will have the last laugh.

With fares almost
doubled, riding an Ola or Uber will no longer be your cheapest bet

This new feature is launched in over 20 cities and users can book rides up to 30 days in advance. 
 
"A top-requested service from riders around the world, especially from business travelers...Riders can schedule an uberX or an uberGO for as little as 15 minutes to as many as 30 days in advance," stated Uber. 
 
Users can cancel anytime before their ride is on the way, it added. 
 Amit Jain, President for <keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword>, said the offering minimises idle time for its driver-partners.

Tata may invest $60 million, while rest will be invested by New York-based hedge fund <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=falcon+edge+capital&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Falcon Edge Capital</a>. Besides, <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> is also in talks with other investors and looking get funding of $200 million. 
 
If the deal goes through, Ola's valuation will rise to $3.5 billion. 
 
"This new $100 million commitment (will happen) at a higher valuation,” ET quoted sources as saying. 
 <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> has invested in 30 startups earlier in his personal capacity and this Ola’s investment will be the first major transaction by RNT Capital. RNT Capital has set up a $250-million corpus with University of California Investments (UC Investments) to invest in Indian companies. UC Investments manages a corpus of $100 billion across endowment and pension funds, and announced the venture with Tata in February 2016. 
 
Ola is also planning to work with the Indian Government and introduce electric vehicles in the top cities in the next three months. 
 
ET quoted analysts and employees at Ola, saying Ola clocked about six million weekly rides on an average between September and December 2016, across all its offerings-cabs, auto rickshaws and shuttle buses. “The major source of revenues for both Ola and Uber-around 70-75% - comes from their economy services including Ola Micro, Mini and UberGo,” analysts told ET. 
 
Ola is leaving no stone unturned to fight out the increasing pressure from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=uber&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uber</a>. 
 "Since <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> has been operational for 2-3 years, investors will start asking questions related to profitability,” an analyst tracking the space told ET on the condition of anonymity.

Ratan Tata likely to lead $100 million funding round in Ola; valuation may touch $3.5 billion

An Uber spokesperson confirmed the fact, saying “There is a driver who successfully maxed out our income charts by making around Rs 130,000 in only 30 days, which is impressive.” 
 
One reason of their high earnings could be the fact that at the moment Uber has a relatively less number of cabs plying in the city- and as has been noticed, the demand for an Uber is unbearably high. This trend could well wear drown once Uber increases its fleet in Lahore. 
 
Presently, Uber has started out with 100 drivers/cabs in Lahore and is offering its UberGo vehicles in Pakistan which include Suzuki Swifts, Toyota Vitz, Toyota Corollas and Honda Civic among others. There is also the economical Uber Pool that allows two or more people to share a ride and split the fare. 
 
The company aims to offer luxurious cars under UberBlack and UberLUX later.

Uber Pakistan’s top driver made Rs 130,000 in just 30 days

Yes, that’s right; you can now book a <keyword id="2918716" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taxi-for-sure-hatchback">Taxi For Sure hatchback</keyword> through the same old Ola Cab app. This means, there would be more cabs available at your service than before. 
 
Having acquired Taxi For Sure in March this year for $200 million, Ola has integrated the technology based cab hailing service for a more fleet of radio taxis. As per the press statement issued by Ola Cabs, this convenience of service will be available in Delhi and Mumbai and gradually be extended to other cities in next few weeks. 
 
However, for the time being only cash money can be paid against the Taxi For Sure cab bills availed through Ola. 
The news doesn’t end here. 
 
Blame it on the trolling habit of Twitter users or the inertia of Snapdeal trolling Flipkart still continuing, Uber and Ola, the two rivals in cab hailing service fought over the 160 characters.

Uber, though offers cabs at a minimum rate, even cheaper than autorickshaws, is most of the time accompanied with surge pricing. Ola meant to say that Uber’s offering of Rs. 7/km is actually 7 times more than what should have been billed. 
 
Well, even then the news doesn’t end here. 
 
Twitteratis didn’t take this troll in lighter way. Some flocked together to blame how Ola never replies to people’s grievance on Twitter or customer care calls.

Ola cabs app and Taxi For Sure get into a relationship. Twitter trolls prove how complex it is

A 26-year-old woman reported that she was sexually assaulted and beaten by her Uber driver late Friday night, before he dropped her off at her house. 
The driver reportedly switched off his phone after the incident, but Uber provided police with his license details, address, vehicle information, and trip details. The driver was arrested Sunday morning in his home, about 100 miles from Delhi, <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/07/indian-police-uber-driver-rape">The Gaurdian reports</a>, and will appear in court on Monday. 
Uber launched in India in last fall, and now operates in ten cities across the country. In November, it <a href="http://blog.uber.com/uberGO">rolled out a service called UberGO</a> for short trips for providing a "smarter, cheaper and safer way to get around your city." The company - which <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/uber-just-raised-12-billion-2014-12">just raised $1.2 billion at a $41 billion valuation</a> - competes mainly with <a href="http://thenextweb.com/in/2014/07/10/taking-on-uber-in-india-how-ola-cabs-is-thinking-local-to-battle-a-giant/">local service Ola Cabs</a>, which has <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/27/olacabs-softbank-india/">raised roughly $277 million</a> and operates in 19 cities. 
In its response to the allegations this morning, Uber writes that safety is its "#1 priority in India," and that "Uber exclusively partners with registered for-hire drivers who have undergone the commercial licensing process, hold government issued IDs, state-issued permits, and carry full commercial insurance."
However, deputy commissioner with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-indian-woman-alleges-rape-by-uber-cab-driver-in-new-delhi-2014-12">Delhi police, Madhur Verma, told Reuters</a> that there has been "a lot of negligence in terms of security" on Uber's part. 
"We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials in their investigation to bring this crime to justice," Uber's Ahmed writes.
