Cab aggregator <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> has come up with a 'Schedule a Ride' feature and now you will be able to schedule rides in advance on the app. 
 
This new feature is launched in over 20 cities and users can book rides up to 30 days in advance. 
 
"A top-requested service from riders around the world, especially from business travelers...Riders can schedule an uberX or an uberGO for as little as 15 minutes to as many as 30 days in advance," stated Uber. 
 
Users can cancel anytime before their ride is on the way, it added. 
 Amit Jain, President for <keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword>, said the offering minimises idle time for its driver-partners.

You can now schedule your rides in advance on Uber

The multinational online taxi dispatch company <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, which is also the world's most-valuable startup, has planned to launch its own digital wallet in India. This would make India the first market to have this service from the San Francisco-based company. 
 
The closed wallet will only allow payments for rides hailed on Uber, and will be the goodbye sign for Uber's worldwide practice of accepting payments on credit cards. It also means that Indian customers will now have one more option other than paying by card, cash or through Paytm and Airtel Money digital wallets. 
 
"Uber has been working on the closed wallet feature (since) right after the RBI mandate was given," a source directly familiar with the development told ET. "It will still continue working with other (digital) wallets." 
 
After RBI, the central banking authority of India, ruled that a two-step authentication for credit card payments was necessary for foreign companies like Uber as well, it had to start working with wallet services providers. 
 
Uber didn’t reply to any queries from ET.

<keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword> is going to shake up its rivals in the cab-hailing app area as it is planning to make a huge purchase in India. 
 <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> India is planning to buy at least 200,000 passenger vehicles and lease them out to the drivers. 
 
The cab-hailing app wants to buy vehicles over the next two years and also help driver-partners to acquire their own cabs by arranging finance and negotiating deals with automakers. Presently, Uber India has 4,00,000 drivers on its platform. 
 
Uber India’s purchase will be made under Uber's leasing unit, Xchange Leasing and it is expected that Maruti Suzuki and Tata would make gains from this. 
 
Raj Beri, head of leasing at Uber India, told ET, “We aim to empower a million driver-partners by 2018 under our UberSHAAN initiative and expect that potentially one out of five new drivers would be on the platform through our leasing programme.” 
 
India is the next battlefield for Uber as India has emerged as the second-largest market for the company with local operations here accounting for 12% of its global market share. 
 However, Uber faces a tough competition from <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>. 
 
Ola has also signed a Rs 2,600 crore deal with M&amp;M to purchase 40,000 vehicles in two years for its driver-partners. 
 
With the fleet market posting annual growth in excess of 15-20% over the past few years, compared with low single-digit growth seen in the auto industry, manufacturers from Toyota to Tata, Mahindra and Nissan have been forming alliances with Ola and Uber.

Uber is going all out in India; to make massive vehicle purchase

The campaign is inspired by stories from our riders as well as drivers. 
 
In this bid, Uber India has partnered with BBH India to help them conceptualise and execute this campaign. 
 
Uber India ads will include real life anecdotes; life of a driver and how Uber is changing the concept how people travel. 
 
“We are excited to launch Uber India’s first brand campaign ‘Move Forward’ which is inspired by true stories about empowerment. In this brand campaign in partnership with BBH, we have brought to life our product through stories which will resonate with millions of Indians,” said Ashwin Dias, General Manager at Uber. 
 
This campaign will be a multi-platform campaign comprised of digital, print and outdoor. 
 
Arvind Krishnan, Managing Director, BBH India, said, “Weworked hard on uncovering the voice of Uber and the rest of the campaign flowed from there. The team had to don many hats in this process and having an energetic, digitally native team made it a memorable one.”

Once an army man comes back to the civilian life, there are a lot of hurdles that his military training might not have readies him for, and ride-sharing app <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> is making sure that ex service men don’t get defeated by these problems because of lack of work and money. 
 A pilot project called <keyword id="3389316" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="UberFAUJI">UberFAUJI</keyword> has been started by Uber exclusively for ex-servicemen, under which it enrols them as drivers and entrepreneurs. In just six months, the company has attracted over 10,000 veterans, a number that is on a rise with each passing day. 
 
For most military men, their service ends at an average age of 35 years, which is nothing when we compare it to other profession. After retirement, they have a long life ahead of them, which can be made better with UberFAUJI, as it lets them earn almost 10 times as much as their basic pension. 
 
Uber has also signed an agreement with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO) under the Ministry of Defence, so that it can maximise the number of veterans benefiting from this programme. 
 
These veterans can either drive themselves on flexible hours or hire drivers for them; there is an option to choose amongst the two as there is for civilians. 
 
They are also offered special schemes for better loans with competitive interest rates and insurance covers, so that not being able to own a commercial car doesn’t come in the way of their business. With affordable EMIs, the car can be theirs in less than three years. 
 
UberFAUJI is based on a similar successful program that was run in the US, called UberMILITARY.

Uber is turning ex-military men into entrepreneurs with UberFAUJI

It looks like <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, the taxi aggregation service from America, has all the plans of expanding its base in India. Reportedly, it has taken 150,000 sq ft space on lease in Hyderabad, which is emerging as the next favorite professional destination in India. This will be Uber's biggest international office outside the US, where it is headquartered. 
 
The San Francisco-based company has plans to use this massive space as a back office and technology centre. If reports are to be believed, in the first phase of the expansion, the company has already occupied 70,000 sq ft in Western Pearl commercial office building in Hitec City. Rest of the development is planned to be done in phases as well. 
 
The building in question is a 700,000 sq ft building, out of which 500,000 sq ft of area is leasable. 
 
Earlier this year, Uber had signed an agreement with Telangana government according to which an investment worth $50 million had to be done in Hyderabad over the next five years.

Gore-Coty was running the company’s businesses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With this move, Uber’s India business will now report to Europe, instead of the current headquarters of the APAC region – Singapore. Amit Jain had started out his journey in <keyword id="2502101" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword> heading the country’s operations. “After four great years, Amit Jain will be leaving Uber at the end of May to spend time with his family before taking the next step in his career. I’m excited that Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, one of our most experienced leaders, will take responsibility for our Asia Pacific Rides business,” Barney Harford, Uber’s Chief Operating Officer, said in an official statement. The truth is, Uber has struggled with multiple problems in India – starting from a driver being accused of<a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/uber-rape-case-high-court-upholds-life-term-of-convict-1916959"> rape i</a>n the National capital to nationwide protests from consumers and drivers alike. At least one in every 10 Uber rides globally, occur in India. However, the revenue from the country is less than a percent of the company’s total global turnover. That tells the story of the tremendous challenges that the company faced in the world’s fastest growing economy, <a href="https://inc42.com/buzz/uber-india-increases-revenue-20x-in-fy18/">India</a>. While India may have been the first country where Uber introduced its pay with cash option, it took a long time to do so. It’s India rival Ola had started accepting cash and debit card payments long before Uber did. Moreover, Ola got into an expansion mode much faster than Uber did – while also offering Indians many more benefits like Ola Play (entertainment, movies on the go). By the time UberEats hit the road, it was already behind homegrown Zomato and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/ubers-ipo-filing-in-the-us-cites-ola-zomato-and-swiggy-as-threats-to-its-india-business/articleshow/68882407.cms">Swiggy.</a> Driver dissatisfaction has been another problem that Uber has had to deal with in India. However, this is a problem that is common to all cab aggregators in India. “The drivers were given a great promise and that hasn't be justified in terms of the earnings they are getting and they are stuck in that rut now. One of the biggest sufferers of this lessening of incentives is the banks. There's repossessions of cars happening. But you'll find that the government will bring in more regulation for sure,” N Chandramouli, the chief executive of Mumbai-based TRA Research, a business advisory and brand insights firm said in an <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/business/uber-faces-challenges-in-india-1.715657">interview</a> in The National, a Middle East daily. Faced with similar challenges, Uber pulled out of China in 2016 and Southeast Asia in 2018 and decided to focus on India. In China, Uber sold its business to Chinese giant Didi Chuxing while in Southeast Asia it sold to Grab – for a 27.5% stake. Jain had been appointed as Uber India head in 2015 and last year he went on to head the APAC business. Harford further added that Pierre will now work with the APAC teams to unlock opportunity markets such as Japan and South Korea. Destination: Wall Street It’s been a busy 2019 for Uber so far, as the company filed for IPO which is reportedly set to be the biggest one seen in recent times. The expected valuation of the San Francisco-based company is set to hit $100 billion. The company has continuously stated that its India business is crucial for them. Uber loses its Asia Pacific head Amit Jain on its way to Wall Street

<keyword id="1042120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber" source="Orion">Uber</keyword> on Thursday refuted a report that claimed the ride-hailing major planned to exit the Indian market and held discussions with potential buyers to sell its India business. Bloomberg reported that the US-based company explored selling the India business, but "suspended discussions after tech startup valuations cratered." In a statement shared with IANS, an Uber spokesperson said the company never explored exiting India -- not even for a minute -- and the report is "categorically false." "India is as important to Uber today as it was when we launched nine years ago. We are serving riders and drivers across more than 100 cities, hiring Indian talent aggressively, and planning for the next decade and beyond," the company spokesperson said. Uber competes with SoftBank-backed <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> in the country. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in April that it will expand its product offerings and its team in India. "We continue to expand the product offerings for the Indian consumer. Whether it is autos, motos or high-capacity vehicles or rentals, India has always been a very big part of the Uber journey," he said during the Virtual i3 summit organised by Times Bridge. Uber aims to expand its engineering talent in India to more than 1,000 people from 700 at present, he had announced. Last month, <keyword id="2502101" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber-india" source="Orion">Uber India</keyword>'s Director of Central Operations, Nitish Bhushan, said that they are "always striving to make driving with Uber a viable and attractive option for drivers and the recent hike in fares will directly boost their earnings per trip". To remove frustration for riders and drivers alike, the company is also showing trip destinations to drivers before they decide to accept the ride. "Drivers at the Uber advisory council meeting told us they would like more flexibility around payments. We are now showing drivers the mode of payment (cash or online) before the trip starts," the company said. To make the cash or online decision irrelevant, the company has also introduced a daily pay process for drivers. With these changes, the company said that they are also reinforcing their service quality expectations with drivers, especially in areas like cancellation and ensuring AC rides.
