However, it will continue with its Hollywood films distribution and television and licensing and merchandising businesses in India, three people aware of the matter told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/media/entertainment/disney-india-to-exit-from-hindi-film-production-business/articleshow/53865976.cms">ET</a>. 
 MD <keyword id="105230" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Siddharth-Roy-Kapur">Siddharth Roy Kapur</keyword> will be signing off from his role when his contract gets over by January, after three years of being in the position. 
 
"Kapur and The Walt Disney Company have agreed not to renew the contract and the search for the new head for its India business is currently underway," said a source. 
 
With several names making the rounds, Abhishek Maheshwari, who currently heads consumer products, corporate strategy and business development, will most likely be entrusted with the responsibility.

Disney India out of business; will no longer produce films in India

The first trailer of UTV Motion Picture’s upcoming movie Katti Batti has been released, and it’s a three-minute-long wild ride of madness and emotions. The pairing of <keyword id="2201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kangana-Ranaut">Kangana Ranaut</keyword> and <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword> looks unusual, but that is the demand of the story, which has been helmed by Kal Ho Naa Ho fame <keyword id="6412743" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nikhil-Advani">Nikhil Advani</keyword>. 
 
Featuring a commitment-phobic spoilt brat Payal and a lover nerd Maddy, this story, which subtly hints at how the essence of love has changed over the years, focuses on the new-age romance and break-ups. In the trailer, Imran Khan, who dons the role of a geek Madhav Kabra, was seen falling for a bombshell Payal, played by Kangana Ranaut. Madhav, luckily, manages to woo her and they both even start living together. But after a 5-year-long relationship, this couple eventually had a break up because of petty issues like bathroom hygiene. 
 
While Kangana is at her wild best in the movie, handing over packets of birth protection to the landlord just to show that they want to rent a flat to raise kids; Imran plays the usual, soft-hearted guy who is hopelessly in love with a girl who has an exact opposite personality. 
 
The trailer showcases a possible suicide attempt, some tear shedding, and even the alcoholic drinking act while sitting in a bathtub, and all these were done by Imran. Kangana, who manages to look careless, comes across as someone who doesn’t take 5 minutes to break off a 5-year-long live-in relationship.

While there were reports that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Kangana-in-a-double-role-again-this-time-in-Katti-Batti/articleshow/47644084.cms">Kangana would be playing a double role</a> of Bijlee and Payal in the movie, it seems that Bijlee is what Payal wants to be called. Besides several news reports, a thunderstorm tattoo inked on her right leg also hints the same. 
 
This movie is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2015.

Get Your <keyword id="6362088" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="kick">Kick</keyword> This Eid, yells the movie poster and sure enough, it has never been this good for a <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> release in 2014. <keyword id="1470620" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="superstar-Salman-Khan">Superstar Salman Khan</keyword> is back with Kick, his second venture of the current year, and the action-drama raced past his earlier outing <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (opening weekend collection Rs 58.50 crore at home). Released on July 25, the Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer netted a mammoth Rs 83.83 crore at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> in the first three days (trade figure stood at Rs 82.01 crore) and is expected to hit the Rs 100 crore mark on Day 5 (July 29) at home. 
 
“Kick has a SPECTACULAR weekend. Fri 26.50 cr, Sat 27.15 cr, Sun 30.18 cr. Total: Rs 83.83 cr nett. India biz. REMARKABLE,” tweeted film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh. This is the highest opening day collection in 2014, but Kick failed to beat the debut day records of <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword> (Rs 36 crore), <keyword id="4546" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh">Shah Rukh</keyword>’s Chennai Express (Rs 33.10 crore) and Salman’s own <keyword id="638019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Tha-Tiger">Ek Tha Tiger</keyword> (Rs 32.92 crore). Neither could it beat Dhoom 3’s record of entering the Rs 100 crore club in just three days. Interestingly, Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger entered the 100 crore club in the first weekend. 
 Although first Monday collections saw a huge 50% drop in earnings (compared to Sunday) at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>, the movie collected around Rs 13.5 crore as per industry estimates, taking Kick’s four-day total to Rs 97.3 crore (approx.). The flick has also done some good business overseas and grossed around Rs 22 crore at the end of Day 4. “Kick is excellent in USA-Canada and has performed well elsewhere. The business will get a further boost once the Eid festivities begin,” said Adarsh in another tweet. 
 
With Kick hitting the 100 crore mark globally, Salman now has seven <keyword id="2448807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-grossers">100 crore grossers</keyword> to his credit. The earlier six include Ek Tha Tiger, <keyword id="35445" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="bodyguard">Bodyguard</keyword>, <keyword id="94964" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dabangg">Dabangg</keyword> and Dabangg2, <keyword id="18142" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ready">Ready</keyword> and Jai Ho. As for the opening weekend, Kick is the fourth highest grosser of all time – after Dhoom 3 (Rs 107 crore), Chennai Express (100.35 crore) and Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 116.05 crore). Although <keyword id="95158" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="RA-One">Ra.One</keyword> (Rs 91.10 crore) and Bodyguard (Rs 86.10 crore) had earned more than Kick, both movies had a 5-day weekend.

This movie, too, has been produced by Nadiadwala and is marketed and distributed by <keyword id="61407" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UTV-motion-pictures">UTV Motion Pictures</keyword>, a part of the <keyword id="473638" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Disney-Company">Disney Company</keyword> in India. Kick hit more than 5,000 screens in India and 42 other countries, and had a whopping budget of Rs 125 crore. Here’s a <keyword id="18564" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="blockbuster">blockbuster</keyword> screening the superb exploits and high voltage action of a Robin Hood-like <keyword id="7436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="superhero">superhero</keyword> who is forever seeking adrenaline rush. Devil, aka Devil Lal Singh (<keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>), is initially drawn to Shaina (<keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword>), a <keyword id="33876" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="psychiatrist">psychiatrist</keyword> living in <keyword id="47414" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Poland">Poland</keyword>, as she manages to give him enough kick on the love front. The chemistry between the two is quite enjoyable while you have a <keyword id="1476042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="super-cop">super cop</keyword> in <keyword id="45913" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Himanshu">Himanshu</keyword> (<keyword id="16675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Randeep-Hooda">Randeep Hooda</keyword>), trying to decode some challenging robberies masterminded by Devil (reminds you of Dhoom 3?), and a creepy villain in <keyword id="2448803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shiv-Gazra">Shiv Gazra</keyword> (<keyword id="6359106" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nawazuddin-Siddiqui">Nawazuddin Siddiqui</keyword>). The rest is usual Bollywood histrionics – right from accident to memory loss to melodrama and finally, a predictable climax without an ounce of surprise. But you would better forget the logic and the coherence part. The best thing that happened to this movie is Salman Khan (and the supporting cast) who sizzled all the way with devilish humour, sleek action and smooth romance.

This new audio card is available in India through Twitter's partnership with SoundCloud, a leading third-party streaming service. 
 
The audio card allows you to listen to the audio with a single tap and the service is available for both iOS and Android users. It can also run in the background while users continue browsing the social networking website.

 In the video, we see the 32-year old actor apologising to director <keyword id="15574" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imtiaz-Ali">Imtiaz Ali</keyword> for ruining the promotion of the movie. Ali can be seen asking him to steer away from the promotions, citing Deepika as the only hope for promoting the movie. Ranbir also says that it was someone else in the video and Deepika used computer graphic skills to make him look like Ranbir. However, he also earnestly admits that he needs promotions because his last movie didn’t work at the box office. Well, full marks to the honesty here; Bombay Velvet was a commercial dud. 
 
Ranbir can be seen asking for one more chance from the director, saying that he has the URLs at his finger times, and man does he say the truth.

If media reports are to be believed, <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s PK has earned a revenue of whopping $7.03 million. 
 
PK, which released last Friday at the Chinese theatres, was liked by the audience in China. 
 
 Amrita Pandey of UTV Motion Pictures, which co-produced the film along with Aamir Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and <keyword id="6354633" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajkumar-Hirani">Rajkumar Hirani</keyword>, told news agency IANS, "We are thrilled with the audience response in China. Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra travelled across China with our marketing team promoting the film and culminated this with a grand premiere in Shanghai for the film." 
 
Aamir Khan's PK, which became the best performing Indian film abroad of all time has now crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone overseas. 
 
"It was such a warm reception for them in China and now the movie has become a talking point and opened to such phenomenal collections! This is a really proud moment for us, and we are happy to have made this impact in a new market," she added. 
 
When it was released in India and other countries in December last year, PK shattered records not just at home but also in Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan where it is the highest earning Indian film now. It is the highest grossing foreign language movie in <keyword id="6378080" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="North-America">North America</keyword> of 2014, claims IANS report. 
 
The Chinese dubbed PK has opened in 4,600 screens across the country. This is the first time an Indian film has received such widest releases overseas. 
 
Aamir Khan, director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra had recently visited China to promote the film, which premiered in Shanghai on May 13.

Aamir Khan’s PK a big hit in China. Rakes in $7.03mn post its release in the country

Come Friday and we would see Emraan Hashmi don a role of a conman in the movie titled Raja Natwarlal. Along with Hashmi, the movie also stars Pakistani model and actor Humaima Malick. 
 
The movie is directed by Kunal Deshmukh who has worked with Emraan Hashmi in the Jannat series. Paresh Rawal, Kay Kay Menon and Deepak Tijori are also a part of this flick. 
 
Raja Natwarlal is a crime comedy movie, which is produced by produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur under UTV Motion Pictures. 
 
“Raja Natwarlal appears to be a well made film too which is substantiated by content in the offering. That should ensure that after a decent start of 40%-50% (with single screens taking the lead),” Joginder Tuteja said on Koimoi.com. 
 
Girish Johar, a film business expert, while talking to Business Insider India shared, “Raja Natwarlal will have a good start at the box office as Emraan Hashmi’s movie is releasing after a while and fans are keen to see him on 70mm.” 
 
Emraan Hashmi was last seen in Raj Kumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar and Ek Thi Daayan. 
 
Coming back to Raja Natwarlal, we expect the movie to get off to a decent start and be able to pull up at least Rs 20 crore in the opening weekend. 
 
The last week’s offering Mardaani despite having rave reviews was unable to pull any crowds, as a result of which Singham Returns continued to have a good run at the box office. We are quite bullish about the next week’s offering Mary Kom and later offering such as Finding Fanny, Khoobsurat, Daawat-e-Ishq, Haider and Bang Bang!

Box Office Predictions For Raja Natwarlal

They say there is no business like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Mid-year-assessment-It-was-a-roller-coaster-ride-for-Bollywood/articleshow/47830513.cms">movie business</a> and indeed every Friday we have at least one new movie tossed at the audience. And by Sunday, we get to know whether the movie will be a hit, a miss or just an average fare. 
	 
	So far, 2015 has been quite an interesting year from Bollywood’s perspective. Why I say so is because on one hand we had magnanimous opus like Baahubali achieving great success and on the other, there were small budget movies such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Relive-the-90s-with-Dum-Laga-Ke-Haisha/articleshow/46395043.cms">Dum Laga Ke Haisha</a>, NH10 and Badlapur, that managed to swoon the audiences and the critics. 
	 
	Sequels like Tanu Weds Manu Returns managed to outshine their last offering and then we had Piku that conveyed human emotions in a brilliant way and also got the cash register ringing.

	So should we conclude that the era for clichéd, formula-based movies, is coming to an end? 
	 
	Not really as in 2015, we had movies like Hero, Tevar, Roy, etc that banked on the predictable story line to woo the audience and managed to garner mixed acceptance. 
	 
	But, if we see a larger picture, new concepts with small budgets and strong script are doing well. 
	 
	The success of Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and last year’s Queen hinted that directors and storytellers should venture with newer concepts to engage and entertain the audience. 
	 
	To this trend, Komal Nahata, trade analyst, said, “I would not like to say that there is a trend shift that is happening. From the past three-four years we have seen some small budget movies doing pretty well. The market for such films is also growing. Earlier they used to do well only in certain multiplexes, then it grew to few cities but now in pockets pan-India, they do well.” 
	 
	While it is true that there are quite a few experimental movies that are being screened, but multiple sources in the industry, on conditions of anonymity, told us that about 60-75% of the movies that go on the floor never see light of the day. 
	 
	 
	 
	A lot of these movies are actually finished products but fail to make it to cinema halls as the distributors are unwilling to buy them or the producer has lost confidence in the movie and does not want to spend more money in promoting them. 
	 
	Despite of the fact that some movies do well in global markets, they are not released in India. The movies that have found place in this list include Peddlers, The Coffin Maker, Dekh Indian Circus, etc. 
	 
	Mind you, not all of these shelved movies have lesser known faces as their star cast. The Coffin Maker stars Naseeruddin Shah while Nawazuddin Siddiqui features in Dekh India Circus. 
	 
	Siddiqui said, “It is rather unfortunate that a lot of content-oriented movies in India are still struggling to get funding in the country and there are a few completed projects that are not able to secure a release. Not just Dekh India Circus, there are a few more of my movies that are currently not released and I have started taking more commercial projects since last year with the hope that if I become a little more known face, it will be easier for my directors and producers to get the pending projects released.” 
	 
	And off-beat movies that managed to secure a release, had to face a tough time in the process. 
	 
	For instance, Shonali Bose’s “Margarita With a Straw”, which has Kalki Koechlin as the leading lady, garnered accolades at Toronto International Film Festival and Koechlin also bagged the best actress award at The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2014. After much delays, the movie finally released to Indian audience on April 17, 2015.

	Unfortunately, not all the movies are lucky as this one. There are quite a few of these Bollywoods' lost children that fail to get a screen space in the midst of high-brow glitterati. 
	 
	I managed to see the world premiere of one such movie in the very heart of London’s film world. Being a movie enthusiast, I had heard a lot about London’s prestigious Raindance Film Festival and it was quite a coincidence that I managed to see a Bollywood movie listed as an `official selection’. 
	 
	Curiosity got the better of me and I reached just in the nick of the time to see ‘Peter Gaya Kaam Se’ (PGKS) (aka The Goa Run). The super plush Vue Cinema in Piccadilly Circus was almost full and the first theatrical screening for this lost Bollywood baby was a complete entertainment package. 
	 
	John Owens' action packed adventure tells the story of a motorcycle taxi driver from Goa (Rajeev Khandelwal) who falls in love with Mira, a beautiful and beguiling drug smuggler from London (Lekha Washington). This out and out commercial flick was originally produced by UTV Spotboys but got shelved and largely forgotten during Disneys' protracted takeover of the company. 
	 
	Director John Owen, who has worked in India for many years as one of MTV and Channel [V]’s head honchos, had penned and directed this story. The movie was shot extensively in Goa and took about a month to complete. It turns out that, the Raindance founder Elliot Grove took a personal interest in the film. 
	 
	 
	 
	Says Owen, "Raindance loved the film and were determined to host the world premiere, especially as I am the first Brit to direct a Bollywood film. A fact that makes me very proud. So when Disney finally gave permission I flew over to Mumbai, finished the sound work we had pending at my cost, did the subtitles myself and had a high end digital print made. The quality of the screening was just superb.” 
	 
	Raindance is in its 22nd year and has become one of the world’s premiere film festivals and very highly thought of by the industry itself. 
	 
	Owen adds, "We didn’t have any money to promote the screening so it was all word of mouth and the buzz of social media. People came from all over the country, it was amazing." 
	 
	Ironically, on the very same weekend Disney's Khoobsurat was premiering in the UK and I could see a theatre just across the street in London's Leicester Square showing it. 
	 
	When I put this point across to Owen, he chuckled and said, "It's funny because Shashanka Ghosh and I have been friends since our MTV days. I stayed with him when I was over in Mumbai fixing up the film in September and we joked about him being Disney's loved and me being their unloved child.” 
	 
	Given the response this movie managed to get sans any promotion and that too in London, I was curious to know what plans Owen or Disney have for this movie. Owen shared that some high-flying industry folks were amongst the excited audience and they saw real potential for the film in the UK and the US. 
	 
	No wonder, UK distributors are showing interest in the movie. Even in India PGKS is well-liked amongst industry insiders who were given personal screenings by the director. After all, the film does come with some pedigree. Anurag and Abhinav Kashyap were `creative producers' and UTV’s top producer on the job at the time was the visionary Vikas Bahl (who has given movies such as Chiller Party and Queen). So, what happens now to Peter Gaya Kaam Se? 
	 
	Owen picks on a philosophical note and shares, "It's all about love and timing. PGKS came along at the wrong time in the marriage of UTV and Disney. So, it’s the unwanted child. A bit like how Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire was for Warner Brothers. Warners’ just didn’t like the film so they let Danny go off and find a new home with Fox Searchlight. Fox loved the film, supported Danny, and made Slumdog a massive box office success. The film industry does not work like a science. Sometimes it comes down to personal taste. When I get depressed about the whole thing I think of Danny and Slumdog and get inspired all over again.” 
	 
	While Owen never had the resources or connections to find buyers for PGKS, on its own, he is looking to crowd funding and other ways to get this movie to be released.

	It is noteworthy, that UTV Spotboys was the pioneer of small budget, content-oriented movies in India. 
	 
	Khosla Ka Ghosla was one of the first movies in this genre that was produced under UTV Motion Pictures. Later between 2008 and 2009, under the UTV Spotboys banner, they released movies such as Dev D, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Welcome to Sajjanpur, A Wednesday, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Aamir. All these movies managed to get a fair share of success at the ticket window. 
	 
	 
	 
	Another coincidence worth pointing out in the case of Peter Gaya Kaam Se is that it went on floor almost at the same time as Paan Singh Tomar. 
	 
	The latter, too, was produced by UTV Spotboys and managed to get a release on March 2, 2012, almost four years after it was complete and it managed to be a box office success largely due to word of mouth. 
	 
	The bigger coincidence is that Paan Singh Tomar, too, was premiered at the 2010 British Film Institute London, almost two years before its domestic release. 
	 
	We spoke to Rucha Pathak on why it was such a challenge to make a movie like Paan Singh Tomar. 
	 
	Pathak was the associate producer of Paan Singh Tomar and Sr. Creative Director at UTV (now Disney India) when this film was being made and is now Head of Creative &amp; Development at Fox Star Studios. 
	 
	“The main challenges we faced while trying to make Paan Singh Tomar was that because it was probably the first time a film like this was being made people did not realise what it was going to be like and it was therefore completely against the trend in those days,” she said. 
	 
	Also we could not help ask her if is it really possible to get any small budget movie out there in the market to which she answered, “It is difficult to release small and medium budget films these days but not impossible. I think if one can find the right marketing budget and the right target audience that you want to reach out to, then it’s possible to release a film. It is really critical these days to make films at the right budget and market films at the right budget. Once that is under control then I believe one can get a film out to reach an audience that it is meant for.” 
	 
	While Pathak emphasised on the budgeting bit, Nahata feels, “Exhibition or the release strategy is very detrimental to the business of content driven movies. The moment there is a big movie coming in, they are thrown out. Most such movies need time for the word of mouth to pick up.”

The distributors today are looking for instant gratification. They would expect the movie to have 80 to 90% occupancy rates for its release Friday itself. If the movie does not show results by Sunday, then on Monday it is thrown out. This was not really the case earlier. I still remember when Maine Pyaar Kiya released, it had just one cinema hall in Mumbai, later when the word of mouth spread, the movie was given more space and it was a such a huge hit,” shares Ami Shah, co-founder and creative director of IntelliAssist (a company that has handled social media mandates for Bollywood movies). 
 
Indeed, distribution is one big challenge for small budget, content-oriented movies in India. However, Director Onir mentions that it is not the only one. Just to give you a perspective, Onir is an Indian film maker, who has churned out movies such as 'I AM, My Brother Nikhil’ and Bas Ek Pal. He had crowd funded his movie I AM, which released in 2010 and also bagged the national award for the same. 
 
Ask him if given a chance would he again crowd fund a movie or give any other director struggling for funds the same suggestion and he replies, “No it is one thing to make a movie and altogether another to get it to the cinema. Marketing a movie, especially a content-oriented one is a hard job.” 
 
I would agree with his point that it is tough nut to market a movie that does not have bankable stars. Like, Filmistaan, the 2014 movie was an endearing tale of wannabe actor, who gets kidnapped by terrorists and held in the home of a Pakistani who deals in pirated Hindi films. The tale captures how both of them bond over movies. 
 
The trailers of the movie looked very bland and I was not sure whether I would want to waste time watching this movie. Fortunately for me, one of my friend dragged me to this movie and I would admit that it was actually one of the best movies of 2014 that I managed to see and yes it did manage to win a national award as well. 
 
The cost of marketing in itself is quite high as well and it is not just important to buy ad space but also to connect right with your target audience. This is perhaps one lesson that the movie Queen managed to do well and of course the word of mouth helped it consolidate its position over a period of time. 
 
Onir also mentions that the government will have to play a greater role to help protect content-driven cinema in India. “The approach that our government takes is that they treat Bollywood as a business and not art. However, it will have to realize that like any art even movies need a bit of support”. In his opinion, there could be plenty of other avenues where movies can be showcased. 
 
Now talking about television, we have 24-hour movie channels that end up playing same movie almost every weekend. Most TV channels pick up movies that have done well on the box office, so that they don’t have to do much in terms of marketing and yet they can have good TRPs on their so-called “World Television Premiere”. It is a possibility that some of these movies that are left biting the dust, some might be ideal for the TV watching audience but so far these gems are not able to get any real support for this medium too. 
 
With the coming of 4G, it is expected that some of these movies might get a fresh lease of hope. There are producers and directors that are looking for alternative channels to monetize their movies via online ads and pay per view models. Currently none of them has been able to come out with a full proof plan and hence some great marvels of Hindi cinema continue to rot in their graves, while the others in the hands of resilient makers are fighting it hard to get to their audiences.

Meaningful Content in Indian Cinema: A Lost Battle?

Foreigner means someone who is an outsider and belongs to some other group or community. In business context, a person who is not familiar with a brand and its products, has not used a company’s brand or has been using competitor’s brand is a foreigner for that particular brand. On the other hand, a Fan is someone who is an enthusiastic devotee or admirer of something. In business context, a person who admires a particular brand, does its positive word of mouth, and keeps on bringing new business is a Fan of that particular brand. 
The journey of converting a foreigner to a fan of a brand can’t be defined through pushing products for sale, it has to be driven through emotional connect. Emotions build relationships between brands and consumers, create aspirations, develop respect, build trust, create memories and so on. Customers choose a few brands over many others because they are able to align themselves with a set of emotions rather than set of features. 
 
Let’s have a look at examples from a few brands that have used power of emotions and have created millions of fans for their products. 
 
1. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmwXdGm89Tk">‘Think Different’ campaign</a>: Apple’s ‘Think Different’ campaign launched in 1997 didn’t showcase products rather it showcased that creative people with passion can change the world for the better. The people who were selected to appear in the ‘Think Different’ campaign were bold thinkers, innovative and independent. This campaign stressed that Apple was an innovative company that along with its creative users, could change the world. 
 
This inspirational campaign connects emotionally with audience, inspires them and gives a message to value their own creativity even if they view themselves as being somewhat outside the mainstream. 
 
2. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2e8sbpyj_g&amp;t=10s">‘Ripple’ film</a>: Nike Golf's film Ripple released in 2015 shows the inspiring effect of Tiger Woods's greatness on young Rory McIlroy. The film covers the inspirational journey of Rory McIlroy growing up watching Tiger Woods’s performances, victories and posters in his room. In the film, eventually Rory McIlroy reaches at the same level to compete against Tiger Woods, one of the best Golfers in the world. This film also shows that Tiger Woods has sustained his position for many years and playing with Rory McIlroy, who is 13 years younger than him. 
 
The inspirational film connects emotionally with the audience who admire, wish and practice to become like their role models. This film also connects emotionally with role models, who sustain their positions through continuous practice and perfection, and are able to compete with much younger players. 
 
3. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b03jWW70kc">‘The Boy Who Learned To Fly’ film</a>: Gatorade’s ‘The Boy Who Learned To Fly’ is an animated short film showcasing Usain Bolt’s story and his evolution from humble beginnings in a Jamaican schoolyard to becoming the fastest man in the world. This movie highlights that Usain Bolt got very much worried about people’s expectations from him and what if he would not win. His mother motivates him and tells him that he could perform better without worries. 
 
This film connects emotionally with the audience, inspires and gives a message to keep worries of others expectations and results aside and focus on performance. 
 
4. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU4oA3kkAWU&amp;t=10s">‘TMP Panyee FC’ film</a>: TMB bank’s film features the island of Koh Panyee in the South of Thailand where a floating fishing village clings to a rocky outcrop in the middle of the sea. Despite the fact that this village doesn’t have any land to play sport of any kind, in 1986, inspired by the World Cup in Mexico, some kids in the village got the idea to start their own soccer team. This film shows that how kids built the floating soccer field on water and later emerged into one of the best soccer teams in Thailand. 
 
This film connects emotionally with the audience, inspires them and gives a message that lack of resources can’t act as excuses in achieving dreams. With determination, we can create platform for ourselves and define our journey. 
 
5. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aVw1gZ9Ncg&amp;t=6s">‘Fat to Fit’ video</a>: Fat to Fit video released by UTV motion pictures features Aamir Khan going through an extreme body transformation for his upcoming film Dangal. The video shows that for the movie, Aamir Khan first gained 27 kilos and then transformed himself from a stout 97 kg man to a fit man flaunting six packs. When he has almost achieved his body transformation, inspirational music adds to the enthusiasm and motivation. 
 
This video connects emotionally with audience, inspires them and gives a lesson that it is only a game of willpower and all you need to do is push yourself every day to achieve your goal. 
The above examples show that by making audience feel better about themselves, by appealing to their emotional states and aspirations, brands can create bonding with their audiences. Over the period of time, audience who were foreigner for a brand gets attached and turn into brands’ fans. 
 
The brands that emotionally connects with audience could establish a bond beyond just purchase of their products. Emotional connection gives brands special preference in customers’ minds, builds life-long attachment, which in turn can foster the brand’s profitability.
